Anyone else having trouble getting their Edge Glow to work? I'm all set up, edge is on, people edge is on, etc. but if one of my five calls me, it rings through like a normal call.
I also can't ignore the call from any of the five by placing a finger over the heart rate sensor.
I've tried it both with the stock launcher as well as Apex Launcher.
I just tested it out with my wife and it all works. Lit up with her color and the sent her a text after ignoring it with my finger over the heart rate sensor.

Looks like my accelerometer isn't functioning. Using a clinometer app, my device doesn't sense any rotation. It didn't occur to me until I started troubleshooting but none of my apps were rotating between portrait and landscape either (yes - the rotate view setting was checked).
The problem with my people edge not working is the phone simply didn't know it was upside down. Returning it for a replacement today.

I have the same issue my edge lighting has never worked. I have tested all my sensors and they are working just fine.
I had the finger print security on, and it didn't work. Then when I disabled all security it worked, and when I turned figerprint back on it still worked. So you may want to try disbaling any security, testing it then reenabling the security.

Thanks Turtle. My issue was absolutely related to a faulty gyro. Returned the phone for a replacement and all's well with the new phone. Thanks for chiming in.

When I am in a call, putting the phone to my face turns the screen off using the proximity sensor. However, removing the phone from my face does not turn the screen back on. Nothing turns it back on even if I push all the buttons or hold them or do anything unless the other person hangs up. I cannot remember when it started....before or after the recent update.....but it did start very recently. Any ideas? If I turn off the proximity sensor during calls it works fine by locking and unlocking the screen with the buttons.

Is anything covering the front facing camera, or light sensor? Like a case, bad screen protector, etc....
Does your front facing camera work just fine as a camera?
How about air gestures? Do they work?
I'm asking these things because it seems your proximity sensors aren't working properly. Your phone thinks it's next to your head all the time, so it's not waking the screen until the other person ends call. We need to find out which one is acting up and why.
The front camera works, but in my office it seems VERY sensitive to light. The lights are glaring heavily. I never use the front camera so I don't know if that's normally how it was. Air gestures work when the screen is on (swiping left and right to view my photos), but the quick glance won't work when the phone is locked. The weird thing is that quick glance works when I do the "try it" tutorial only.

Main problem still exists though.

I was thinking that, but I'm tempted on resetting my phone and seeing if that helps. The problem is that I would lose all my app data and I'd hate to deal with that.

Unfortunately this sounds like a bad proximity sensor. This can be verified by testing the sensor by dialing *#0*#
I had this happen to my last Note 3. The only difference was I could turn the screen back on with the home button.

I tried that *#0*# test and I can activate the proximity sensor, but it seems to stay on after that.
This is a known issue with our phone. I had this issue myself. Plenty of times. Just call ATT and ask for a replacement.
Yeah I just found this:

i stumbled upon this thread and took my phone apart and sure enough there was lint in it. in the dial pad using the *#0*# method, when i covered the sensor the screen would light green, vibrate, and stay that way after i moved my hand away. i cleaned it and everything is perfect!!!

I picked up a white 32gb s6 edge in my local Verizon store on Friday, and all was well. Today I noticed that the Edge Lighting feature no longer works. It's enabled in my settings and worked when I first obtained the phone. I tried restarting it to no avail. When I receive messages my screen lights up and shows the lock screen instead of showing the coordinated colours. This only happens when the screen is face down though, and the screen stays locked when it's face up and I receive a text. I tried turning the phone off and back on and switched the edge features from the right side to the left side and the first time I received a text the screen flashed on for a moment and then locked again and the edge lighting was turned on. It did not work after that, however, and I switch the features back to the right side. The screen no longer lights up when I receive a text when my phone is face down, and the lighting feature is still not working. Is there anything I can do?
I would get the device replaced.

Are you using the people edge? I had the same issue and I was able to get it working again. It is not an accelerometer issue. I disabled the people edge as soon as I got the phone since I figured I would never use it. After a day or 2 of using the phone I realized the edge lighting was not working at all even though it was enabled. What I did was re-enable the people edge, set a friend to a color and then I had that person text me to see if that was working, which it did, so at that point I was sure it wasn't a broken accelerometer as some users have stated. I then deleted that friend from people edge, (so that all colors were set to default) I once again turned off the people edge and then finally retested the edge lighting and voila! It worked. It must have been some kind of glitch that I reset by re-enabling the people edge and then turning it back off. It has been 2 days and I can confirm it is still working. I hope this might work for you too! Let me know!
I've tried everything. It works fine with the screen on, but that's not really useful.
I have edge lighting set to "always", and I've selected the apps to use with edge lighting, but it still won't work with the display off. I've tried it both with and without the always on display on, too.
Any suggestions?
You're not the only one. Heard it is corrected and works with Oreo beta from a user in the Samsung community.
Mine works for text messages, but I can't get it to work for Gmail. Even with it set to go off for gmail, it doesn't. Maybe instead of waiting for Oreo, they should fix some of these things now.
Works just on Samsung text for me only.

That's frustrating. Could be months before we see Oreo. Why not just push an update to fix it now?
i had this problem before and to fix it just set the edge lighting to "when screen is off" then call yourself and see, if it works change it back to "always" and test
seems to work if you can turn on popup notification inside the app you want to use for edge light. whatsapp, telegram works for example. but I don't like that popup which appears when you turn on the screen..

I wish it would work for everything too believe me. Some apps I have selected don't show even when the screen is on my whatsapp does and my text do but they don't show with it off either
Edge lighting only works for snapchat if the option to turn on the screen is enabled. It seems that edge lightning relies on apps to turn on the screens and interprets it as edge lighting.
I have the official Oreo on mt S8 plus, and it only works on screen off f I have popup notifications on.
I add that even with this, the edge lighting will not work on screen off when the phone is turned screen down, facing the table totally strait, it needs to be tilted for edge lighting to work.
This is USELESS, this is not only beauty and show off features, we do not really need it to work when the phone is on in my hand only.
Nowadays lots of us would put the phone on the table face down for many reasons, ring holder on the back, force always on display to turn off but still need to see edge lighting.
So it would be good feature to add which applications uses edge lighting when screen off.
This problem only occurs with whatsapp I guess, I tried it with Viber, and it works without popup messages, aith screen off and phone turned down on it"s face

Thanks mate... really bad to hear am that... edge stuff is a really good feature but if it doesn't work is really frustrating. Hope to Samsung fix this annoying issue.
I multitask all the time on my Note 9. However when I try to use the screen when I'm talking on the speakerphone (for example, look up a phone number or web browser) the screen turns black immediately when my hand covers the proximity sensor. This is especially an issue since I hold my phone in landscape almost all the time (my left hand covers the proximity sensor). I'm baffled why Samsung would want the proximity sensor to turn off the screen when talking on the speakerphone... with no intuitive way to disable this.
Seems kind of odd considering this phone is meant for busy people who multitask. I've already spent a lot of time looking for a solution for this... but, haven't found a solution yet. I've already tried "Kinscreen" and "Keep screen on" on Google play. However, it doesnt work on the Note 9.
So... what's the trick to disable the proximity sensor on the Note 9?
Saw the below article by searching on Google... However, it seems to be a bogus website with false information:
https://gettechmedia.com/how-to-turn-proximity-sensor-on-off-samsung-galaxy-note-9/
PS: I have a Verizon phone.. so I can't root it either.
Sounds like a screen protector or similar may be causing an issue with the proximity sensor
The screen isn't supposed to turn off when on speakerphone, mine doesn't

Thanks for the reply. I probably should have mentioned that the proximity sensor works correctly. If I move my finger over the sensor, it blacks out the screen. If my don't cover the sensor, the screen turns on immediately.
I think that's how the proximity sensor is supposed to work by design. This functionality is in place so that when you move your ear to the phone, it turns the screen off.
The problem I have is this that the proximity sensor turns off the screen if I accidentally move my finger over the sensor; even when I'm talking on the speakerphone (when my phone is not near my head). On older versions of android, there's a simple setting to turn this functionality off under Phone/Call Settings.
Could you please check to see what happens if you move your finger over the actual proximity sensor when the speakerphone is on?

Thanks for confirming this! So... my next question is how do I fix this issue. I wonder if there was some setting that I changed that causes this behavior.
PS: If I enable "Smart Stay", the screen will stay on (even if my move my finger over it), as long as I'm staring right at the screen and hold it the phone vertically.

I'm almost too embarranssed to say what the real problem was. I guess I'm more tired than I realized. I just noticed I didn't actually have speakerphone turned on. I guess the phone speaker is so loud that I thought the speakerphone was enabled! Thanks for trying to answer my question anyway.
Lol, glad you sobered up ??

Verizon N9. Screen goes black when on speakerphone after 10 seconds.
No screen protector. No proximity sensor issues. This is after I hit the speakerphone button (unlike OP that didnt know speakerphone wasn't truly engaged)
How do you get the screen to stay on when using speakerphone?
Again - this is NOT a prox sensor issue. The prox sensor works great when I am using it against my ear/face and not using speakerphone.
Same issue with the s10+, screen goes off after some time on speakerphone same as note 9.

I'm developing app for WiFi calling.
I want to turn off screen when proximity sensor reports "near". It work fine on other phones but on S10 phone looks like proximity sensor is not even activated - there is no white dot blinking on top part of the screen.
If I make normal call or use WhatsApp dot starts blinking as soon as I start the call.
So what do I have to do in my app to make that white dot blink on Samsung S10 phone?
I'm not quite sure, but there seems some kind of known issue with the proximity sensor that dates back to at least March. Screen coming on while in your pocket, screen not lighting up when pulled back from your face during a call, screen randomly coming on while on a call, despite it being pressed against your ear/face. I've tried everything suggested and the issues remains, unfortunately I'll be returning my S10+ and going back to my S8+, pretty disappointing for a $1,000 phone.
It's always recommended to do a factory reset after an update, problems happen not only on Samsung, even on iPhones, not a big deal.
Try this?

During normal phone call my sensor works as it should.
I just don't know how to activate it in app that I'm developing.
On all other types of phones this is not a problem, since this sensor is always on. It is just S10 series that have some kind of special sensor which have to be activated. You can see white dot (left form the front camera) blinking during call... that means that the sensor is activated.
The only other app I saw apart from phone app that can activate this sensor is WhatsApp. It activates it during call or during listening to voice messages.
I also checked Google Duo, Messenger Lite and Linphone app and none of these doesn't activate sensor. So it must be something that WhatsApp knows and others don't.
I also asked this on WhatsApp support, but I was ignored of course.
Do you find how to activate it? I have the same problem in my app and it looks similar on new Samsungs (I find it out on Galaxy Note 10)
Thanks for replay.
