Rooted note 4 with gear s - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to root my note 4 to use additional tasker extentions that require root access. I wanted to know if anyone using a Gear S is having issues connecting it to the note 4. I will probably just get root and not flash any custom roms

[Q] Galaxy s3 and Galaxy gear? help!

Hi!
Ive been trying to pair my brand new Galaxy gear with my Samsung Galaxy s3 Int,
Curent ROM: Cyanogenmod 10.2-20131115-NIGHTLY-i9300
Version: 4.3.1
So i found this apk that should work on any devise for Galaxy gear.
Installed, when i try to pair the device over NFC and Bluetooth i get this message:
Saying; com.samung.andriod.sdk.accessory.ssdkunsup portedException: Device not supported.
I've been trying to search as much as possible at that error message with no results.
Any clues what u should try next ?
(cant really post links yet)
as far as i know, you can't use Gear on custom rom on S3. at least not yet.
i'm using 'official leaked' 4.3 firmware that is bugged and crash a lot, but it works.

Well i was able to connect it with NFC and Bluetooth, so yeah, everything is working atm, Now i'm installing a few apps and see if u run in to something.
Thou kinda whana try lastest Gear manager and see the newer Notifications service..
I'm currently on the Tmobile USA 4.3 TW rom and paired up my Gear with no problems, all functions work properly. I also updated the Gear to the lastest firmware using odin, since the update has not being pushed by samsung here in the US as of yesterday. After updating thru odin, all notifications are being pushed, just remember to also update your Gear Manager app.

There are the page for install galaxy gear manager 1.5...
http://forumxda-developers.blogspot.mx/2013/11/t-mobile-galaxy-s4-42-users-howto-gear.html
FINALLY found a way to get Gear Manager 1.5 working with full notifications on a stock, rooted Galaxy S4. Here's how -
REQUIREMENTS - Null_rom on the Gear, 4.2 stock T-Mobile rooted on your S4. Might work non-rooted, I'm unsure.
1 - Install Null_rom on your Gear (most recent version)
2 - Download the attached .zip file and extract
3 - Install GR.GearManagerStub.apk FIRST. As soon as it's done, reboot your phone and Gear (DO NOT RUN GEAR MANAGER YET)
4 - After rebooting, Install GearManager_1.5.111304.apk
5 - Reboot phone again to be sure.
Start up Gear Manager, pair it, profit.
NOTE: This will wipe and restore your Gear, be aware that although null_rom will continue and you'll stay rooted the sideloaded apps will disappear and need to be reloaded.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y4w3ciobo1...20Files).zip
I'm using a Dropbox link temporarily to get this out there, but if someone can post a more permanent location for the file I'd appreciate it since I need to delete this one soon. I'll update OP with a new link once someone has it hosted.

[Q] App Installing issues

Hello! I'm new to XDA Developers, so pardon my noobiness.
Basically, I purchased a galaxy gear off ebay, but my samsung galaxy S3 is only running 4.1.3 as stupid Telstra have not rolled out the 4.3 update for the S3 GT-i9305T. I was able to connect my galaxy gear to it by installing gear manager, and most features work... except the apps. When I try install an app, this error comes up: "Installation Failed. Try again later.(0)" and I have no idea what to do.
Basically what I'm wondering if there is a fix for this, or if it is possibly to somehow install 4.3 if my carrier hasn't rolled it out yet.
Thanks!
-Louis

I remember reading on this forum (either in this questions sub-forum or in the General sub-forum), others have talked about apps issues with different versions of gear manager. There is a thread in the General sub-forum that talks about different versions of gear manager. You guys might want to look through that thread and see which version of gear manager works best for your needs. I say that because I remember others were saying that the newest version of gear manager is not necessarily the best at keeping all the apps you installed.
good luck guys.

I think your situation may be a little different than OP's. From your sig your gear is rooted with null rom 26 (btw where did you find that, I thought the latest null rom is only 23?), so you would have a custom recovery on your gear already. Then all you need is to load the apks through bluetooth file transfer on to the gear, and intall it from the gear directly, you don't need gear manager at all for this.
As for why your s3 is not recognizing the gear, I am not sure. I had my note 2 on dn3 kitkat with latest gear manager (1.7 something I think) connected to my gear on null 23 rom and everything was working, including bluetooth file transfer, and I was able to install apks by bluetooth file transfer and then install from the gear itself.

I think the apk files are stored in the download folder or bluetooth/download folder. Sorry can't remember off the top of my head. I just upgraded my gear to Tizen yesterday, so I cannot check.

On my note 2 with dn3 v4 beta 2, the downloaded apks from my playstore are in root/factory, different devices may have it in different name.
If you are talking about apks downloaded from internet or transferred from PC, then it most likely will be in root/sdcard/download folder.

I am not sure why your s3 does not connect to the gear, sorry I cannot help as I do not have a s3. one would think it is capable as I have seen gear with null rom connected to s2 before. Perhaps someone else who has a s3 and gear can chime in and lend a hand here?
One thing though, if you have apk's that you would like on the gear, I would recommend staying with android for now, as Tizen is still too new, and of the few apps thats available, they are all from the official Samsung Store, at the moment we cannot install third party apps without going through Samsung Store on Tizen.

Gear 2 Neo ROM compatability

So I have SGH-1337M S4 running CM11 which so far I haven't found a way to connect to my Gear 2 Neo. As I understand it the watch is only compatible with TocuhWiz. So does that mean that it would only work on the stock Samsung OS or any TouchWiz based ROMs will suffice? Anyone care to make a list of ROMs that the Gear 2 works with that aren't TouchWiz? Or is there a plan in motion to put custom ROM on to the watch itself and just forget the whole TouchWiz thing in general?
you can install gear manager but you won't be able to use all that samsung stuff (app store etc.)

Installing the gear manager is the easy part. For me it crashes all the time saying my device is not supported. What I came to understand is No Touchwiz = No Gear. I wish there was a ROM that was similar to CM but with touchwiz. Any ideas?

Some of the data in that 159mb is only download as a package to install the software. And then deleted. So don't worry about the size. The problem gear manager has. Well that samsung has. Is they don't update the software so to speak. They release a new one. So to overwrite our already installed they need to rename the files while installing . And sometimes it conflicts cos of the filenames . It's best to just uninstall all. Then install fresh. Pain in the are. But clean installs always more smooth

Last week I got the Gear 2 Neo, and was using it with my Note 8, which wasn't fully supported. Spec wise it seemed like it should work, but I had to change the build.prop to make it work. I purchased a watchface that I really liked.
Today I got my Note 4, and when I went to go find the same watchface in the store, it's no longer there.
Is there a way to transfer a backup from one device to another device?

So I actually need to change my build.prop to the same model S5? Gear Manager doesn't work with the Note 8, so I had to change it to that to get it to download and setup. I did everything I wanted while the Note 8 was an S5, but changed it after. Almost everything worked then, except the app store.

Note 4, SM-910C Model.
Does this now work non-Samsung phones on lollipop? I'm just getting a crash on start-up. Not sure if it's something I'm doing or it doesn't work with ART.
As I read, the gear manager isnt compatible with ART yet. Im waiting too so I can finally use my gear neo again.
