Hello All,
I am attempting to work with Swype support, as I keep getting stuck in the DRM with the beta, which disables the product and pops up "registered on another device, limited functionality", etc.
They have said they have tested it throughly, and have been "unable" to recreate the issue.
I would like to show them how many people are experiencing this issue, and have simply abandoned the beta, and have gone back to the WORKING leaked prerelease.
Please post here if you have had any issue related to the Swype beta, and explain what you have tried to fix it.
THanks!

I don't know what the cause is but I do know how to fix it. Simply long press on any text input box to bring up the "text input" option and select a different keyboard. Once that is done, do it again only this time select Swype. Bingo, back in action.

Doesnt work for me, and I've been working with support and tried EVERYTHING (uninstall\reinstall, re-register, all the suggested fixes, etc)
I signed up for the beta, downloaded the file and installed it. I could swype all day and nothing appeared in the text box. Installed one of the previous unreleased versions and it worked fine, uninstalled and tried the beta again with same failure mode. Swype doesn't make it easy to comply with their requests to use approved software.
Both Swype support and myself have no idea why, but we were finally able to get Swype up and running on my phone.
Huge thanks for Brian from Swype support for his help, and I recommend anyone having issue to contact their support to see if you can get the issue resolved.
The app has a somewhat complicated (encrypted) registration process, and somehow that was not completing successfully, so def let support know if you are running into similar issues
This happened to me too. I gather it happens every time I install a different ROM, I need to contact Swype to get my Beta account re-authed.
Stuff that, I can't be bothered, I'll just wait until the paid version comes out.
Thought I'd give it another try and still get the "Limited Functionality..."...As usual with restricted access, DRM, etc, it is the ones who try and follow the rules who lose...the pirates will always find a way. Back to the leaked version for me, I guess, though I do think the HTC IME keyboard is still faster and more accurate.
I also get the "limited functionality" message, but only occasionally.
I haven't tested this hypothesis, but seems like it only does this to me when I am at home--and when I'm at home, I'm usually on wifi.
Maybe there's some kind of DRM that didn't take into account that people may occasionally switch from 3G to wifi connections.
If I had more time I'd try messing with it a bit, but I'm just headed to sleep.
There's probably a call home check on first application start up. When you wipe or switch ROMs, that will be cleared, but their servers already have the product registered.
Try backing up the app-data for Swype in between wipes/ROM updates.
I got the "limited functionality" message every time, no ROM updates between download and install. I even reinstalled the installer, redownloaded, etc and it just doesn't work. Glad it didn't work, because it convinced me to go back to HTC IME which is faster and more accurate for me.

its from the other swype thread and this worked for me.
hope for the rest also
well, after some time testing and thinking about this issue i found out whats the cause of it, it happens after rebooting the phone, the reason for this is that rooted roms zip align newly installed apps which changes a lot of things in the file, and i think that the registration process requires the main apk to remain unchanged, maybe someone can contact swype developers and tell them about this and hope that they can find a solution for it.
I have confirmed with a swype tech that there is a registration\call back home immediately following the install of the apk. If successful it will have a quick spinner stating "reristering swype" and the ask you to "enable swype".
I, unfortunately, seem to have major issues getting it to actually call back home, where it states "Swype has already been installed. please uninstall and try again" (I had previously uninstalled it).
In the end, had to revert back to the leaked versions

Ive tried MULTIPLE times to uninstall and reinstall swype w/o rebooting, so I think it wouldn't have a chance to zipalign until the next reboot.
Kind of sad that Swype hasn't gotten back to me yet
Somehow, I am using the Beta version I downloaded myself. I was trying out Super D for a week which is when the Beta was open, later I went back to Dwang and Swype broke when using the Beta installer but I got it working using AppMonster. Here's the steps I followed over that time:
- Wipe phone and install Super D
- Install AppMonster from Market
- Sign up for Swype Beta
- Download SwypeInstaller and install Swype Keyboard
- Perform backup with AppMonster
- Wipe phone and install Dwang
- Download SwypeInstaller and install Swype Keyboard
At this point I got the "Limited Functionality" message
- Wipe phone and install Dwang again
- Install AppMonster from Market
- Restore backup of Swype with AppMonster
Now I can go into Settings and enable Swype in the usual way. I have been using it without a problem for a couple of weeks now.
What solved it for me
I had Swype installed and working on a G1 with Cyanogen latest but after an uninstall it stopped working for me with the same error messages as described here in this forum.
What solved it for me is not pushing the done button on the touch screen after the package install but pushing the back key on the phone. This got me in the registering Swype screen after which the swype installer crashed. Swype is fully working however using these steps.
just go back to installer , log in and reinstall. Everytime i flashed a new rom i did this. I found out u can do this 10 times, before they cut u off. Obviously they know whats up?!
obviously i like the real beat with vibration option and more stable. im using now the final pre release that was made available in a couple posts above mine. no vibration, but it works. this keyboard is fantastic!
after updating my hd7 to nodo, i noticed that color depth has been reduced !
specially on gradient colors its very noticeable.
does anybody notice this ?
no
Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters
i have installed WP Bench app from marketplace, in display test it has a gradient test tool which it is obviously visible that gradients are not smooth !
you can install this tool from here : zune://navigate?phoneAppID=f7f88eb2-d35a-e011-854c-00237de2db9e

i've just had the HTC HD7 firmware update, and it has this issue
I installed NoDo using cheveron updater, then got the HTC firmware update seperatly so it must be a HTC issue

I received the update yesterday (HD7-tmobile US) and am not experiencing the symptoms you guys are describing.
I installed the WP Bench app to see (by the way that app is just a waste of time since all it's doing is running tasks but it is not giving you any meaning about the results or comparison with other models or even your own model so you know where it stands). The Display tab produces smooth gradients both in color and in the White to Black.
UM
I've heard there might be a fix for it soon, if its not already been issued, so i guess it just depends.
TBH i havnt noticed it much in apps yet, but i can always restore to the older firmware if it proves to be a issue
yeah mozart has the same problem
we got pictures there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924486
must be the new bootloader/firmware
I didn't have chance to test the gradient before updating, I so compared this to my other devices.
I want to say, even on my laptop, the picture is not completely smooth
But on my Dell Streak, it's even stranger... I mean when I open the picture from gmail, it's really really smooth. and when I save the picture to gallery and open it, it's same as HD7 did...
Yes...the gradients look ugly now...i too noticed this and am gonna have a word with the tech support soon through Twitter...is there a way we can reverse the no-do update??

There is no method to reverse an update aside from restoring from a backup, or flashing an older version ROM to your phone.

You can always download a pre-nodo rom (version 7004 or 7008) from the hd7 rom development subforum, put your phone in bootloader and flash that.
Same here with an HTC Trophy. The bug seems to be HTC related, as I've tested this versions on my trophy:

I hope we get a fix from Microsoft/HTC soon!
Got this reply from HTC Singapore, an hour after i emailed them with my complaint. Bottomline, they are aware of it and co-working with Microsoft to resolve the issue. Their recommendation to hard reset my phone is not necessarily a solution i will do for now! Here's their actual reply:
"Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, we are coworking with microsoft with this now, and hope they could figure it out soon. And may be you can try a hard reset on the phone to see whether the problems can be fixed.
After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings-the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Make sure that any additionally installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before you perform a hard reset.
To perform Factory Data Reset:
HD 7
1 With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and DOWN buttons, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2 Wait for the screen to show the instructions on how to do the factory reset, and then release the VOLUME UP and DOWN buttons.
3 Follow the instructions onscreen to factory reset your phone.
If hard reset won’t do any help, you just contact us and we will tell you how to send you phone for repair and arrange repair service for you.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again.

Hey guys, hopefully this hasn't been asked before as I didn't find a thread on it, but I am having a rather interesting problem with a few applications that I set as the default. The applications in question are the Next Launcher and Swype. Whenever I set them as the defaults, everything will be fine until I have to either reboot or shut down the phone. When I power the phone back on and unlock it, I get asked to choose between Next and Sense 5, and the keyboard reverts back to the default Sense keyboard. Any ideas on how to get the phone to remember my chosen defaults upon reboots?
Thanks.

Just going to chime in here and say I've got the error too. Hate to say it, but I've actually found it kind of handy for changing around the icons on my lockscreen, but if someone finds a fix, I'd love to hear it.
Not sure about OP, but I am running stock rooted.
Hi all,
Maybe one week before I found that I have dots instead of name of the menu.
Sometimes I can see the name sometime I can see only 3 dots.
The issue is observerd on camera and mail HTC sense 5.5 applications.
HTC One M7 4.4.2 stock, latest updates
Can you help me how to solve the problem?
Please find attached two screenshots - one with the issue seen and one when everything is ok.
Try to reboot the device and see if that persists

I already tried that, it's ok for a while but then again the same issue. I found one strange relation (maybe) when my mail accounts start to sync the new messages and the issue happens immediately. I'm not sure if there is connection.
I have the same issue also. Only just got the One yesterday, and updated straight to 4.4.2 OTA and have noticed this. It seems to do it on random apps. Sometimes in Messages, sometimes not.
Also in Messages if the name is long, it doesn't sometimes stretch the little dropdown arrow for the entire name.
Looks like there are a few niggles in the latest update.
Wow sometimes Android shows with the strangest problems. See if clearing cache and dalvik cache will clear it up.

Can I do it without root and customer recovery. I'm running full stock 4.4.2 without root. I want to avoid reset to factory settings.

Oh I thought you were rooted. But wiping cache and dalvik cache needs a custom recovery. It's even more surprising to see this happening on a stock device.
Experiencing the same
Hi all,
I am experiencing the same issue.
Non-rooted, stock 4.4.2 running sense 5.5, Verizon
I've tried changing my system font size & the text sizes, anywhere from Small to huge, I've rebooted multiple times. I am still experiencing this issue.
Ive attached four images to this showing what I'm experiencing, the gray boxes are information I've edited out, but the dots are still there.
It's happening in most system apps, Messaging, Mail, Gallery.
FYI this is the official answer from HTC support regarding the issue:
=================================================
In regards to your enquiry, please try the following steps:
- Please try to Soft Reset the phone (restart your device)
If this doesn't resolve your issue then unfortunately you need to perform Factory Data Reset of your phone. You can do that by:
Please press MENU on the Home screen, then tap Settings> back up and reset > Reset phone.
NOTE: Resetting your handset to factory or manufacturer's default setting will delete all the data stored on your phone memory, please back up your files first.
We hope that this has helped you with your issue.
if it will not help you , you might have hardware issue , so we recommend to you to contact our repair center through our point of collection
==================================================
If I make factory reset who will install/configure all my applications/news/mail accounts.
Android should have much better system for deleting cache and dalvik cache other than root.
I spoke with HTC Support, they told me to run through a few steps, started with a reboot to safe mode, clearing the sense cache, and a factory restore.
The factory restore resolved it for a few minutes, but the issue reappeared.
It seems to be related to the pinch-to-change text size in the messaging application.
EDIT: I'm reaching out to HTC Support again-
LastPass is the culprit
I've been through multiple factory resets and adding applications one by one.
The problem is caused by LastPass. The auto-fill into apps feature.
I've sent a support ticket into LP, I suggest you all do the same, but it does not appear when that is disabled. Appears when it is enabled, and goes away once I disable it.
Seems like it doesn't play well with Sense :/

You are the saver !!!! Thanks a lot for this valuable information.
As soon as I disabled Last Pass autofill options in "Accessibility" screen everything went back to normal.
Thank you once again and have a nice day!
One ticket with the issue opened in Last Pass support system from my side also!
Let's see what will happen
It's funny. I'd kind of had a hunch it was that. I turned it off on my phone as all apps had been installed, and hadn't seen it since. It must be something to do with the new overlay feature they have, which is really useful! Good spot though
Hi, I've to try to cancel the cache of my Lancher because, according with a friend, it could solve my problem with the drop down menu which doesn't works. I've read that is a common issue and I'm pretty sure it's a software problem since it works if the screen is locked and it works if the phone is in "widescreen" mode!
So, what can I do to delete the launcher cache and data?
thanks
Believe me, it is your hardware. I've never seen any solution on the interwebs, except replacing the digitizer . But hopefully I am wrong...
Settings - Apps - Xperia Home (or whatever is your launcher) and Clear All Data.
Try some other launchers also.
Hi, there is nothing with such name.... Indeed I asked because I cannot find the right application. I've read the app list at least 3 times. Anyone who knows how I can do?
In Marshmallow - check the 3 dots on upper-right section of display. Show system. Only then you can see it.
(I hope I remember correctly (Por que eu tenho KK) - if not, try the menu selections on that screen).
I have already done these things with no luck... I cannot find any "launcher". Does it have a particular name? I'm using Android 6.0.1 released from Sony (so probably different from the basic one)
Xperia Home is the official name of Sony's launcher.
