Please read full guide before attempting anything once you have fully read and understood the process proceed with caution.
Intro:
This is the simplified and user friendly process I used to root/ unlock-bootloader and flash recovery for my D400H. I’ve seen many guides and support for other D4xx phones but not for mine which according to original manufacturer software is a D400h model (not D400hn-be careful). Don’t know if this model is set by manufacturer for specific carrier and for branding reasons, which is my guess, but if you have a D400h phone surely this guide will help you. Personally did the research and this guide should save you quite some time, since It took me well over 8 hours to find the correct and working downloads for my D400h.
This is the simplified version so there is no need no for commands, complicated adb pushes, fastboot and other savvy tech jargon; although you will read a lot. As long as you can read follow instructions you should be golden.
As always I am I in no way responsible if you brick your phone (should not be the case but be careful make sure the files and versions of the downloads share the same specs as your d400h), rooting and unlocking your phone will void your warranty (although you can search forum on how to bring your phone back to oem state) always make backups before you start attempting anything, guide should work for other d4xx phones if you select the correct bootloader for your phone. If you are not sure what you’re doing just don’t do it, read, do your own research until you know what you are doing, or decide it’s not worth the risk.
Simplified process:
We will:
a) Enable developer-options (enable usb-debugging, and allowing unkown sources)
-needed to be able to install KingRoot b) Root device
-Install KingRoot, needed to access root folders and give file browser device administrator privileges c) Unlock-bootloader
- needed to be able to install recovery
-Do this by swapping locked aboot file with unlocked downloaded aboot
-use your rooted file explorer es recommended d) Install recovery
-Flashify
- make backups and flash custom roms
-TWRP recomendedIn this specific order don’t jump the steps.
Detailed process:
A) Enable developer options:
To enable developer options you must go to your phone settings and depending on your specific android version and software you will find it in different places (still under settings menu tree) browse your menu and find Build Number once you have found it tap on top of the builder number till you receive a message that you have enabled developer options. Example of where you might find it are:
Settings > About phone > Build number
Settings > About device > Build number
Settings > About phone > Software information > Build number
Settings > About > Software information > More > Build number
Once you have seen the message enabling developer options or informing you already have them go to main settings menu and access developer options make sure to enable debugging, after that search in developer options or security menu to enable unknown sources make sure that both are enabled.
B) Root:
This will be the easiest step. I tried many forms and the easiest is to Download KingRoot from original site, any mirroring apk site or make a google search on how to install it.
Once you have installed KingRoot go to app and follow in app instructions to root your phone, for root to work you must restart(reboot) your phone. Sometimes root doesn’t enforce so re-root using KingRoot and reboot again. Do NOT download a root checker or a SuperUser since KingRoot itself has them both built in, once it tells you your phone is rooted (built in checker) you can access king root and in the main menu is the Root Authorization option were you can add manually apps or just wait when app prompts you for authorization.
KingRoot once installed comes with a bundle, ignore purify and all the other stuff direct yourself directly to kingroot for purposes of the guide you can later decide how to proceed.
C) Unlock-bootloader
So now that we have root privileges, download a root file browser of your preference. I would recommend Es root file explorer, once you download make sure to enable root explorer on the menu (you swipe from left to right on the main window of the es explorer to access main menu- enable root explorer).
Ok this is the part where you must pay attention and be sure on what you are doing.
To be able to install/Flash a recovery we must unlock the bootloader to do this we are going to replace the aboot on our android phone root directory for an unlocked one, we are going to do this by first downloading the correct aboot file.
To know if its the correct file first we must be sure we have a L90 D4xx phone that it’s not a Chinese copy since its processor would be different (Chinesse actualy mod hardware info so it shows the same as original in software, but we will not get into that we will assume its original) the aboot file we download is the same as for the specs of our phone. By this I mean does your phone have nfc, single or dual sim D400hn is not supported. My phone was D400h and fits description of the D405 so after unlocking my phone is now actually a D405 yeay
Be careful to download correct file from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/development/bootstack-kk-l-l90-t3118632
Once you have downloaded unlocked aboot file (unzip and extract aboot file if zipped or rar file) first copy your original aboot file that’s inside your phone and keep it somewhere accessible like your desktop or laptop. To do this you copy aboot file to phones external memory or some directory that can be accessed from your computer. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME U WILL USE A COMPUTER, though it is optional I highly recommend it. All steps of the guide are to be made from your phone directly (unless you downloaded apk mirror from your computer but again you could have made it directly from your phone).
If you brick your phone you will need original aboot file to unbrick It, via download mode and software, if you cannot do this yourself at least you can give it to the guy who is gonna fix it, having the file makes things easier. If the person who is gonna fix it cannot get a hold on the correct aboot file they wont try hard the can make more and faster money using their time in solving other simple matters they will give it back to you bricked even if its fixable just to not waste their time on it.
Aboot file is in your phone under this directory:
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
If you cannot get to your root directory google how to do so with your rooted explorer app.
Now that you have back up replace old aboot file with the new one or delete old file and then copy the new one in the same directory. /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
do this with your rooted file explorer, by-name is actually a folder in there you must paste new aboot.
**DON’T reboot your phone just jet and jump directly to Recovery section
D) Install recovery
Easy-peasy. Download Flashify from play store and use it to flash a recovery from inside the menu, this you can also Google but should be self-explanatory once you have downloaded the app and opened it jut go to Recovery Image.
Since you installed recovery before rebooting your phone and old locked bootloader is gone, because you replaced it or deleted it worse case scenario if you selected wrong aboot file you will still be able to access TWRP or CWM and replace aboot file for original there, to fix your phone if its going in boot loop.
And Voila your D400h is now a unlocked rooted D405 with recovery.
Plz share your experiences on other roms and buy and donate to the apps before mentioned since devs work hard on making and maintaining them.
What roms have yiu installed? Can any D405 Rom work? thanks for guide. It worked fine

I Mean It Definitely Would Restore On Your Device However Your Data Connection Wouldn't Work Because It's A Metro Modem Flashed Instead Of T-Mobile
What kind of apps were removed? and can I go back to normal if I dont want this backup anymore? will it erase all my data?
my worthless T-mobile one refuses to enter recovery
wont work too vague
the 2nd step is too vague. Iam trying to follow step to but it isn't very specific. can you explain it with a little more detail. please

I have built a stock rooted rom, but it will not complete the initial setup. Its as if there is no data when it shows 4g lte of wifi, strange.
And what about sim lock? Is this ROM unlocked?

Your asking 2 questions thinking they are related. The rom is unlocked meaning you can change it if there was a rom for it bootloader is unlocked so tou can modify the recovery bit sim lock is another thing they are not related in any way shape or form. If tour asking id it can be sim unlocked then yes it can be but that proceas is not like flashing a new rom to make that part work sim unlocking would work on the ohone on stock or not that just depends on who you got the phone feom like tmobile or metro tjey have presequets on how to sim unlock or you pay someone to do it for you
So in other words just because you have custom recoveey or rom or not sim unlocking is another process that has nothing to do with the phone being stock or not if that makes any sense
Thanks for the answer. Do you know how or who can remove sim lock from a K20 Plus? The original network is MetroPCS.

Backups need to be i in twrp/Backups/LGxxxxxxxxxx (model/serial of phone) folder for twrp to see them, not on root of sd card.
If you haven't made a twrp backup, just do a backup of boot to create the proper folder and copy the 2016-12-31--20-18-59_NRD90U folder from the downloaded zip into it.
Thanks, now I am having another issue, I think I can resolve it I can't get twrp to mount /system rw so restoring backups is failing.
Is anyone else having this problem? What I did to fix it was open terminal in twrp, and type "mount -o rw,remount,rw /system" which seems to have worked, this was after installing the no-verify and a SU

You have to create a new backup folder , containing only one item. And then take the file that you have of all your real backups , and put it in that spot , if ur backup location is SD card , then this can easily be done useing Sun 3.0 micro SD card reader , or other method. The TWRP will see the file then. If ur backup is in internal memory , u just do the same thing. Useing minimal adb and fastboot (fromXDA). Otherwise TWRP will not see the backup file. There r a couple of videos on Utube as well , that cover this process.

Yes did that, got that sorted, thank you, I was asking specifically about if anyone else had system that was Read Only, would not allow Read write.
Is this based on a stock Google rom? I'm about to be getting this phone tomorrow through Metro, but I hate the LG UX UI and would rather it be vanilla Android 7.

I recommend everyone put the Flashfire AP zip and Rom Zip on your internal storage as the AP file is so large that it may not be read properly do too limitations of some SD Cards. When you select AP file in Firmware there should be 4 partitions that are selected. If not then you have a bad download or need to have AP file on internal storage
Thanks for all your hard work . I just installed this so far so good but I am missing Wi-Fi calling. Is that normal or am I just not looking in the correct place? Thanks

Ok will try that when I get a chance. Thanks again.
Thx for an awesome rom.
Sorry if this question is asked before but couldn't find a solution (checked Verizon thread as well).
I am running Playstore version ROM and everything is working fine except Video Recording.
Photo is fine but when I record a video with included Camera NX, it only plays sound and the screen is either still or black.
I have been taking a needed break. I will update all my s7 roms including this one in the next few days
Nice
That rom can flash for g930p? tks your work!!
@jrkruse
Thanks for all your contributions to this device. I just bought this device and I've been diving through the forums trying to gather as much info on this locked down device.
Could you provide me with just the boot images that don't check the system image and from what model/rom are they from?
Oh and could you provide the partitions locations? The latest roms have an updated Knox that blocks SU from doing it's thing and I have to perform everything via adb (eng boot).
Blank screen
Hello,
I am on your custom rom and the phone was working fine for a day. After I restarted the phone I am not able to see the lockscreen. Its just blank. I do hear the sound of taking a screenshot when I press the buttons and I also can see the " shut down, restart, emg mode" buttons when I hold the power button but no lockscreen. I tried running the recovery boot img but nothing changed.
There is some kind of issue at the locksceen after a restart.

I followed the directions up to Step 7.
For the life of me I can not get the AP file to copy to my SD card. Yes I have enough space on it and I can get the ROM copied.
I tried copying the AP file with a file explorer, on my PC, external card reader. Every time I try, it gets to about 95-99% and says "copy failed".
I know it says flashfire only, but is that my only option?

In my case I created a folder named Download in Internal Storage and copied Zip and AP files there. I didn't have trouble coping files there.
From my experience & guess, you may still have old files & settings even though you flashed U-firm files Step 1-2.
Try to access recovery mode and do factory reset and see if this helps. Make sure you backup all important files to External SD because it will factory reset.
So I rooted my phone using Araltd's guide in this forum. I've got a couple of questions about this rom...
1. If I were to flash this rom to my device, would it remove my root access?
2. What's device performance like? After rooting, my device is very slow and buggy. Will this fix that?
3. Will my device still be full of T-Mobile's bloatware?
Thanks!

1. Yes, it will remove Root Access but you can still use ADB to do root stuff like push / pull files.
2. Since it will use stock boot instead of ENG boot, it will fix the lag issue.
3. This is U (universal) firmware so it won't have Tmobile bloat but it will have Samsung bloat/apps. During the install you can also choose de-bloat level too. From my experience BS-Free (2nd one), is both lightweight and stable. If you go with Playstore level (most lightweight, replace Samsung Apps with Google ones), you will have trouble with camera.

The QF6 ROM you mentioned is T-mobile firmware so it will have Tmobile apps. Most of them can be removed from ROM install or disabled after.
Other than that there's no performance difference.
If you want Tmobile like environment with Tmobile update schedule, go with T-mobile one. If you want less carrier apps, go with U-Firmware one.
I will no longer be updating my s7 threads until the time Oreo is released with root method. For now I have worked with @stang5litre to bring my non-root method to his amazing rom. He currently has a nougat release found here http://stang5litre-roms.proboards.com/

If you at any point tried to root it or flashed the modified boot image then you are no longer passing the safteynet checks, my suggestion is to do a clean install and see if it works then try it again making sure you don't root after you are done installing this rom.
Fist of I wanna say a big thanks to - Developers of Kingroot and Flashify
Now - I don't know why nobody ever uses this method but it works all the time on almost all phones both new and old if you can gain root using an apk app even if its temp root it works and its fairly easy and fast.
Straight to the point.
1. Install kingroot ( search for it on google download and install )
2. Use the kingroot app to root your device it works - and its good.
3. Download the latest recovery of TWRP image from their site it must contain in the name wls since its a sprint version.
put the recovery on the root folder of your device.
4. Install flashify - from playstore - Grant root access and flash the recovery you downloaded it should take a few seconds then reboot to recovery and vuala ... You now have a fully functional recovery without the hassle of fastboot ( Which i f**king hate and consider a total waste of energy and a drag for the need of a PC and installation of drivers blah blah blah ...)
Now download any custom ROM of your choice and install - i use viper one 9.0.0 - its amazing.
Thank you and bye bye ...
Now if you are have troubles with invalid sim card its simple just download the latest ruu the .exe for format - install htc drivers and double click on the ruu plug your device and then follow the dialogue and install ( that simple too no fastboot :silly: ).
Then follow the he step 1 to 4
1. flash this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2402764&d=1384892279 - via you twrp and
2. Install this "SIM Unlock Helper" - open press the back press start and grant root access.
3. Scroll down and tap on Sim Lock - it should freeze for 5-10s and then you should see your none sprint sim card.
And now you can flash any ROM without the need to sim unlock again .
That's all , Thank you.
Nice guide!
Hi
All people know when we unlocked bootloader and flash custom Recovery or TWRP never can to install any update file or official Rom.
Because on zip file are some script's file for controlling install processes and when you unlocked your device this script blocking other install's script's.
Device need to other script's for installing rom completely.
When This script no matched by TWRP or custom Recovery we can't to install official Rom..:crying::crying:
So what to do now ?
But before : I try and try all method and idea for make that way to convert Oreo Rom but i can't .... so sorry
i try and make one package with problem (when phone run up after flash Rom the bootlogo frame was reverse... and supersu dont install on file system because when i run phone with recovery mod data portion not mount on TWRP and can,t read that portion so you can't install any mode file and supersu file on system.
I know and I learn to all how to convert official Rom file from zip for lock device to zip for unlock device
installable by TWRP.
You Need read this post completely and then you can convert all other update Rom for unlocked devices (Just for Zenfone 4 Max - X00ID)
Now ...
I learn 2 way for converting
Way 1: with PC(computer) and windows:good:
Before You Need:
1- PC(computer)
3- Winrar program
4- Official Rom file (just Download from ASUS Site)
5- Scripte file ( Download from Below )
Let's go
1- Download official Rom from ASUS site on your PC.
2- Open zip file with Winrar and go to { META-INF } and { com } and { google } and { android }
3- Now on folder have 2 file's, Find and select this file "updater-script" and press delete key on your keyboard and wait to app doing process complete. now on this folder are 1 file, keep opening winrar on { android } folder, we must copy downloaded script on this folder.
4- now download script file ( updater-script ) from below.
5- When the download was completed select file ( updater-script ) and hold left click and drag and drop to winrar window for place script file ( updater-script ) on to folder { android } and wait to app doing process complete, now again on { android } folder have 2 file.
Ok:good: you make your Rom:highfive:
Copy to external device and flash on your zenfone

Way 2: By Android :fingers-crossed:
Need: ES file Explorer
Now Start ...
1- Download script file ( updater-script ) from below and official Rom from ASUS site on your Device and Internal storage. (Sample I downloaded this Rom file : UL-ASUS_X00ID-WW-14.2016.1803.233-user.zip )
2- Open ES File Explorer now find downloaded Rom file and Extract zip file you must extracting that to internal storage. (Sample: I extracted file "UL-ASUS_X00ID-WW-14.2016.1803.233-user.zip " to internal storage)
3- Go to extracted folder and find this folder "META-INF" (Sample : after extract I go to folder "UL-ASUS_X00ID-WW-14.2016.1803.233-user" and find folder "META-INF" )
4- open folder and go to { META-INF } and { com } and { google } and { android }.
5- now on folder are 2 file, Find and delete this file "updater-script" and now have 1 file.
6- Now copy downloaded script file "updater-script" to { android } and past on folder, Ok now again are 2 file .
7- Back to extracted folder and checking have all this file and folder : {on extracted folder are 2 folder: 1- firmware-update / 2- META-INF } and { 5 other file } that must be 7 item.
8- Now select all 7 item, file's and folder's and select three points item on top right and select compress item.
9- Now app opening new window and you must change item to zip and change compress level: best and press : Ok now wait to compressing all file's.
Note: after doing compresses all file's complete, open zip file and check on zip file, you must see 7 item after open zip (if after opening zip file you see just one folder and after click on folder you see 7 item you must delete zip file, because that file don't work. just after opening zip you must see all 7 item.
Now copy to External storage and flash on your device.

I tried something that will maybe work. I removed the first line of the original 8.1.0 script. I removed the IF statements that verifies if the device is compatible. Maybe this tip could help in some cases? But i'm also experimenting some scripts that may actually work, I'll give my feedback if ever it works bruh, cheers! :fingers-crossed:

Ohh and if you've notice on the new update file there are no certificates on the META-INF folder aso you might wanna check that out
For this to work we need to find out how to unlock the bootloader. I have tested with "fastboot flashing unlock" and "fastboot oem unlock" and the only result is a reboot followed by factory reset that can't be stopped. Bootloader remains locked afterwards. Any custom recovery or rooting is impossible with 8.1.0 on this phone.

Dudem I just freakin flashed it. IT WORKED! but there's a VERY BIG DOWN SIDE
It made me enter a password I never placed. so basically it's locked. so what I did was to flash userdata via fastboot which was a little bit difficult. but dude It worked! although it sucked that my data was resetted back to original. but it worked!
PM me if you want the new script and the fastboot flasher. BTW I'm a Filipino
I allready have 8.1.0 installed and working. I had to edit the scriptfile to be able to install on a rooted firmware 237. Oreo refused to recognise my phone as an ASUS_X00ID . I'm mostly interested in this updater script so I can flash future updates if (and that's a very big if) a functioning bootloader unlock and root method is discovered.

actually I think I have made a batch file that could maybe answer your "unlocked bootloader"
Interesting. I'm willing to test it.
