Samsung filed a design patent in korea and some specs about the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch have leaked now.
Samsung Exynos 4212 dual core clocked at 1.5GHz with Mali-400 MP4 GPU
320 x 320 resolution Flexible OLED display
Camera (integrated into strap)
NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Accelerometer
Decent battery life
Android 4.3 (developer units had Android 4.1 or 4.2)
Check the source link for the drawing pictures from the patent and a 3D video based on those drawings.

I must admit, I'm somewhat of a purist, I usually wear a stainless steel waterproof Fossil when not donning my MotoACTV, but that thing is pretty damn ugly from my perspective. It's very futuristic looking, but also looks like it'd be easy to break.

For me I found the device quite attractive. It looks great.

I think it looks dreadful and the design is absolutely terrible. Given the size of the screen, i could only imagine how easy that thing would scratch.

No WiFi so not cetain how interested I am in owning it. I really should sell the I'M watch and maybe the motoactv if the Neptune pine works out.

Including wifi will drain the battery faster. I still have no idea how they will be able to pull "decent battery life" with all the features on the list already. There hasn't been any groundbreaking battery improvements to claim higher capacity in a smaller footprint, unless they can stash some battery cells inside of the bracelet?
In general, until Sept 4th it's all speculations about how exactly it's going to look and what exact features its going to have. So I would take all these T3 renderings with a grain of salt Samsung could be clever with their patent pictures to mislead general outline.
Just from my own personal experience of using MetaWatch (designed by Fossil guys) smartwatch, which in my opinion doesn't get enough credit, you DO NOT want to carry a gadget on your wrist but rather a watch with smart functionality. All these "cool" features are OK for a few minutes of play, but for every day use you only need to get phone/sms/email/calendar notifications in order to know when you need to pull out your main weapon of choice - your smart phone. Remote music control is great too, for example in a situation when you want to control your wireless bt speaker playlist from a distance. I have Sony LiveView MN800 (got it brand new for $19 off ebay), so I got a taste of "smartwatch" with apps. It's OK to play for 5-10min, and that's all. For practical use - who cares. I have read a lot about MotoACTV roms and how you can turn that watch into mini-android gadget. Definitely cool, but wouldn't you rather run your apps and play games on smartphone instead? I'm Watch - sorry, but most of the reviews about that smart watch refer to it as a giant failure. What else is available right now? Pebble and MetaWatch. Pebble has an advantage of a better screen and huge hype that enabled them to $ecure fund$ thus being able to have more developers working on software to support it; but other then display and better battery life - the design is cheap. MetaWatch in my opinion has a lot better design between sporty STRATA and business FRAME (refer to my review link), but lower resolution, worse battery life, and limited sw resources are dragging them down, although they have been making some nice sw development progress lately. Martian and Cookoos - I don't even count those in the same category as other smart watches, those are more like feature-watches. Everything else "to be announced" such as Kreyos, HOT, Agent - look good on the paper, but until we see these out with proper hands'on reviews and comparison, it's all speculation and hype they are building to get pre-orders.
With all that said, I'm very excited to see what September 4th going to reveal, and how soon Samsung Gear and Note III going to be available for purchase

The point isn't to replace your phone with it, it's to be able to customize it to do what you want, and without having to be tethered to your phone. Having super quick access to my Notes app, calculator app, calender app etc. is handy. Live backgrounds are entertaining, other things like playing Pokemon on a GBC emulator are fun to do when waiting in line or something. I find I use certain apps on my watch because it's convenient, and the rest on my smart phone.

I average 3-4 days with bluetooth enabled and connected to my phone for texts and caller id. Obviously lots of games and videos will yield lower results.

With bluetooth on, and live wallpapers running constantly. I get same results as speedy ink (3 - 4 days). However turning the motoactv off at night I get a weeks worth of battery life.

Good point, maybe the display size is 320x320 but the top and bottom bezel is used for other notifications?

Update: check the source for leaked screenshots, confirming NFC and 'Locate my Watch' features.

N3 is what?

With smartphones it's different because AT&T always like to play an upper hand with introduction of latest Samsung phones a month a head of other providers. I have no idea how Verizon ends up being the last. So a lot of politics involved with N3 intro. Smartwatch intro should be independent of carrier, but could be limited due to supply'n'demand. Can't wait for Sept 4th, and hoping not to get disappointed when it will come to battery spec of Gear.

Verizon is last because of all of the fiddling they do to the OS and bloatware.

Just heard from someone Verizon might get N3 only in November

Yes it might be November or December if release time is similar to that of last year.

crappy pebble? pebble was released long time ago, and easily lasts a week on it's battery due to e-ink display. comparing gear and pebble when it comes to watch faces is ridiculous, and i still think that gear faces are awful. this is a 300$ device for god's sake! should be easily customizable out of the box.

I've got all 3 Sony watches and a pebble and even tho the gear has a few teething problems it is bar far a more superior piece of hardware the screen amazes me how soft and responsive it is and every day here on xda the device is coming on leaps and bounds we cannot be to hard on Samsung they have given us a great watch it just needs more work to unlock is full potential. A custom Recovery is what is needed at present so if you are friendly with any developers that know a thing about recovery have a word with them

I have a Pebble and like it much, but I haven't charged it up since I got my Gear. A lot more functionality and COLOR. It's a 1.0 product but has come along in the just the last month. Root, Nova launcher, widgets. etc. My battery hasn't gone dead since I turn off the wrist montion. Get 2-3 days, justa little less than my pebble.
I'll get a Google watch and a HOT one via kickstarter. I'm looking for the best and so far the Gear is it. Soon we will have TWRP. custom ROMS, etc. Don't see any of that coming to the Pebble soon.

It's easy enough to use Nova Launcher instead of TW.

You can side load nova launcher to the device through using adb commands on your computer

Unless you dont have electricity, have to tell time often and want a watch with no colored then by all means get a pebble. Who needs a watch on 24-7 anyways??? If you want something with color, can totally customize, play games and more then u will like the gear. Samsung kept it simple for quick access and simplicity. Mine will go approx 3 days on a single charge and will fully charge in little to no time. The gear is capable of so much more which these guys from XDA has proved. I'm waiting as to when we can push or watch a movie off this lil sucker! Haha

I've not used my pebble since getting the gear. Have ordered a Nexus 5 though and if I decide to keep that, my s4 and gear will go and I'll be left with pebble
Gear looks better, colour screen, battery life is acceptable, touch, microphone, speaker, android based. It has so much going for it
No sdk though and pebble has tasker support which is a big bonus

Pebble just never appealed to me at all. I like the idea of it, but hate the design of it and the black and white screen. If you could get the Gear for 30% off, it was really a no-brainer

LG G Watch R vs Gear S...

I've actually owned both of these watches so I think I can draw a good comparison:
First of all, the approach of these two watches is completely different. The LG G Watch R assumes you will always have your smartphone with you. It is basically for notifications and quick responses. It assumes you will use your smartphone for anything more involved. It is an accessory in the purest sense of the word. It helps you keep your phone in your pocket but it doesn't try to replace your phone. With Google Now it has excellent voice recognition and navigation. Fast, light and easy.
The Gear S is very powerful and yet on many levels redundant. It does much of what your phone does. But there is a problem, it does it in such a small format wouldn't you be better off just using your phone? Yes it handles texts better than the LG G R, but why? Your phone does it even better and you aren't typing on a tiny keyboard. But can't you just use the Gear S as a phone replacement and leave your phone at home? Good concept except no camera and the battery life with a 300 ma battery is horrible under heavy use (I blew through a full charge in 2 hours). It's also huge and face it, pretty nerdy. And sadly, S-Voice just sucks.
So while room for lots of improvement exists with Android Wear, I think it gets it on what a smartwatch should be - not a smart phone on your wrist but a smart accessory that extends your smart phone to your wrist.

Exactly. The Gear S is not worth imho. Why would you want to have a phone on your wrist? And imho it's fugly (as are all other galaxy gear watches).

The only reason the Gear S makes sense is if you plan on leaving your smart phone at home, but WHY would anyone do that? You have no camera, you are trying to type on a 2 inch screen, the battery is tiny and doesn't last - and oh yeah, its ugly as you said. It's funny. In this day and age of bigger and bigger screens, Gear S is trying to get us to go back to 2 inches.
That's not to say the Gear S doesn't have good ideas. I would enjoy being able to see lists of my notifications on Android Wear even after I have dismissed them for one. Also the multiple homescreens with widgets is a good idea Android Wear could use.
Last thought, would be nice to be able to talk into the watch when responding to a quick call if you aren't wearing a headset. Gear S does that well.
We really need Gear S and LG G R to have a baby with the best parts of each.

yeah, Tizen-based Gear watches have good ideas, but first the platform itself is new and is probably heading the same route as Bada did, I don't really see it taking off. And then the Gear S itself is trying to be something most people don't want, noone wants a phone in the wrist, its an hassle to use it, calling, sending texts and so on, then you'll have to have multiple SIM cards... and finally it looks super nerdy calling people from your wrist lol
I mean, there's phones which do a phone's job well done, why would you buy something that makes your life harder? lol IMHO smartwatches are just supposed to be so you don't waste so much time grabbing your phone from your pocket just to see that the notification you just got was some spam email or a facebook farmville invite.

Have been think about getting one for a while, but they are pretty expensive in Australia and I would personally wait a little bit longer for the technology to mature.

I use a asus zenwatch.
It is very usefull for some things.
When you get messages/calls at work you can have a quick look if its important.
Maps navigation (walk) you dont need to look at your Smartphone anymore.
Music skip Songs
OK Google feature: Send whatsapp to... (When driving), reminder, translator....

I have a G Watch.
Having a smart watch is pretty usefull when you recieve messages or calls, u can look at the watch and see or respond without turning on your phone.
Also u have maps and other apps that are pretty usefull..... If u are a runner is great!
At the end is a watch with smart capabilities... Time and date plus the basics of the phone...

I am using Pebble Steel, which is based on the original Pebble watch. The value and functionality is fantastic. First of all, it looks good and performs extremely well as a watch. I picked it for just $100 around holidays, and at that price it's worth the money even if it did not have any "smart"watch functionality. Some good points about it:
1. Great as a watch. The time always stays in sync with network time. There are about a gazillion good looking watch faces you can download.
2. Delivers notifications from the phone (calls, messages, etc)
3. Weather and battery charge display on many popular watch faces.
4. Will last 7-10 days on one battery charge
5. waterproof
6. Android compatible (of course)
7. Cheap
8. Many many free apps.
Poor points:
1 bit "color" display is very readable and saves you battery, but some people want a color display.
I think the activity/fitness tracking features are a bit gimmicky.
The newer versions of Pebble are worth checking out.

you can find pebbles on swappa for typically less than $100, plus the pebble classic dropped to $100 MSRP
pebbles are awesome, I rock the steel and it's great, the battery life is ridiculous and it does notifications really well (music control is nice too)
they don't bite off more than they can chew like some other smartwatches

I highly recommend an asus zenwatch 2, it only costs $130 on (or at) bestbuy and has specs similar to "flagship" smartwatches. The only thing it doesnt have is a heart rate monitor. It also is one of the only smartwatches with a speaker, whenever google adds functionality for a speaker on android wear.

I have an ASUS Zenwatch 2 and can highly recommend it!
It is available on Amazon and at Best Buy, etc. for $129 with the brown band (which actually isn't terrible), but I also picked up a steel 22mm milanese band for $11 and it looks great!

I'm using an Asus Zenwatch. It's very useful for eg answering whatsapp.

I have a Samsung Gear LIVE, pretty useful for the notification (but I use some filter)

I have the LG G Watch the original I snagged it for $100. Best thing I've done. It's mostly to learn to leave my phone alone in my pocket. I can't talk through the watch which is really fine with me, you can use a Bluetooth headset for music and phone calls so no biggie. I have two phones so I also have a second watch the LG G Watch R for my LG G3. Just remember that you can't pair more than one phone to the watch.
Quick text and email replies, start apps while driving eg: navigate to x location, start music, call B contact. That's what the watch does best. No heart rate monitor, not an accurate pedometer it will get better!

I had a zenwatch. Worked fine with my G2. But after a few days i sold it. In a few years i'll get interested again. For now i don't find it useful.

Using Pebble Time. You can find discussions about pebble vs. other (android wear) watches on reddit.
Extremely happy with my watch. It's not pricey as other watches, 150$ and you get one week battery life.

I'm using the LG Urbane. It's nice but the phone's battery sure has taken a hit (even though I use it less).

I'm looking to get a smartwatch for my birthday this month, and I'm on the fence between this watch and the Gear S3.
I use a wearable only for notifications, and I do hear that the Gear S3 is a little bad in that respect (especially with Whatsapp that I use a lot).
But the S3 has a standard strap and i like the looks slightly better.
Well so I wonder, how do you guys like it? I know that forums are usually for people with problems trying to find a solution, so we read "negatives" mostly. So would you recommand it?

If you have a little patience and wait there will be

How do you feel about it?

I bought this watch at the end of 2016. I wear it every day and since now I'm happy with it. I had a zenwatch 1 before and this one looks better. I use it mostly for notifications. The battery life is OK, at least as good as zenwatch 1 : It last almost 2 days. The charger is far better. The screen is great. Sometimes the automatic brightness is a bit slow. Even if I don't use them too much, the 2 extra buttons wihch allow to launch any app are a good idea.
If you don't need HR sensor I think zenwatch 3 is a better deal than gear s3 (less expensive and thinner). Waiting for android wear 2.0 to see if it improves the experience

The Zenwatch 3 is in my opinion the best looking and operating. I'm very happy with it.
Of all the smartwatches I've had it gets the most attention and i love the fact I can have an always on display last a day easily, I get from 5.30am till 10-11pm with around 40% left. I usually wear it at night and a 30 min charge when I'm showering/shaving gets me back to 100%

I bought mine right before Xmas, and I just basically wanted to try one out. I really expected that I would end up returning it. Now it is nearly the middle of February, and I would not trade this watch now for anything else. lol. I really like it! It always gets lots of comments, and two people who have seen it have purchased their own.

Similar path for me. Pebble-->Moto 360-->ZW3. The ZW3 is, by far, the best watch. Battery is great and it looks like a very nice, regular watch. I get lots of compliments on it.

Love mine....had a Moto, a Zenwatch 1 and 2 previously (and a Martian) each new generation gets better. The Zenwatch 3 looks and feels much classier and the screen is lush

Zenwatch 3 is my first smartwatch I'm having it 2.5 months and I'm really happy at general.
1.Solid battery life meaning 1.5-2 days with always on display on for 12-14 hours per day use.
Getting Plenty of notification(2 email account ,WatchApp) music control,changing watch faces several time per week.
2.Attractive beautiful design and solid well build quality.
3.Smooth responsive from OS.
4.Excellent OLED screen.
5.Fast charging is also a nice feature( just 30-40 minutes to full charge from 15-20%)

my watch suits me but for the battery life it will last two days only with a black face and white hands other wise 24 hours tops. If you could get a battery pack as advertised it would give you a good full day. depending on you spend i would go for the samsung gear thee depending how big your wrists are they cost over 300 pounds new and are 3mm thicker app. i bought mine from ebay it came from Poland perfect sealed box. good luck i hope you make the right choice.

I got my ZW3 for Christmas. I own six mechanical watches and I tend to wear the Zenwatch more often out of them all.
I've seen the Fossil Q, Huawei, Moto 360, and everything else in person and yeah, they're nice, but this is the best looking one out there. People at work have complimented on it a few times.
Battery does pretty well. Easily lasts 24 hours and the fast charge really is FAST. I pushed the Fossil Q faces to it and I think they look better on the Zenwatch! Lol.
The only other watch I'd consider right now is the Gear S3. It is pretty neat and the price dropped recently.

Bought my watch last Sunday, so far I'm really happy with it.
Battery life isn't perfect yet, but read that it could take some days before it's optimised.
Simply love being able to read notifications on my watch without having to grab my phone first. Also noticed I finally start using "ok google" now, never really liked having to grab my phone for it.
Now I use it for simple tasks like setting a timer, reminding me to do a task, etc.
No complains yet, other than having to wait a bit longer for 2.0 than I expected. But I'll manage

Thanks, maybe if I get more time free, I'll fiddle with it, I'm not currently confident with adb to mess with it just yet.
I thought it would just be something I install on my phone and it shows up on the watch.

Super easy to push it via adb. The video he posted with the apk shows how to do it.
