Hello, this is my first post.
Today at work I was on the Wi-Fi, downloading my 5.0 update, and it was taking forever. When it finished, it said that there was insufficient space on the device. So, being the smart person that I am, I uninstalled some larger apps and the like. By the time I had finished weeding out all the unused apps, the AT&T update popup was nowhere to be found.
Is there a way to force re-update, or to force installation of downloaded update w/o checking the AT&T servers AND WITHOUT ROOT? Because, for some reason, the About Device>Software Update>Check for Update time shows 2950 Hours.
Help me. Please.

Goto the Date and Time settings and time travel. Then, check updates again.
Valiant effort, but...
It worked, kind of. It looked for updates for a bit, then said, "Update unsuccessful" although it has previously stated downloading it earlier today.
Thanks,
Dxtron

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, the fix did not work. It checked for an update, then said, "Update Unsuccessful, please try again in 24 hrs."
What now?
Thanks!

The only thing that I can think of is that maybe your device would have been rooted or tampered with. Therefore not able to take the OTA.
thanks

Thanks so much for your help. I was going to contact AT&T, but they are closed.
I don't think my device was tampered with, it's basically brand new. I'm not really sure what to do either.
You wouldn't mind sharing this around, I hope.
Foreign customer service is only efficient if you speak Indian.
Thanks, and have a great night/day.

I have never been able to check for AT&T updates. Every time I try it, it gives me a message "Error communicating to the server". Is this happening to everyone else as well? And after that I can't check for the updates again for 24 hours....
Occasionally checking for firmware updates isn't going to do much. What I mean is, if there's going to be an update available after you check, then you'll probably hear about it before hand. Considering you can only check once every 24 hours, I'd say it's better just to be patient until you read about or hear one is ready to download.
As far as your connection error you're receiving, it seems to be nothing more than a connection failure. A lot of people are trying to download the new firmware update right now, you probably just have bad luck when you check. I wouldn't worry about it. You'll eventually get it.

Well I checked for updates just as I bought the phone, I also checked randomly couple of time after that, and I checked multiple times today, by switching the date forward, and not a single time did this work for me. I get connection error every single time. So it seems a bit more then just a lot of people checking...
I wonder if AT&T has to enable your phone to update?

Well, if you think your phone is physically messed up, then best thing to do is call Samsung about it. It may seem that way, but I'm sure there's a simple explanation for it. I definitely could be wrong. At any rate, I hope you get things working.

You didn't mention your physical location. If you are/have been trying to check for updates while outside of the U.S. you're outta luck, at least for OTA. I don't know what exactly a user would see in that case but the message you see can't be that far off.

Wait.. so you guys counted to 40 and then turned off your data connection?
Good to hear guys, I waited 35 sec. Badcam3 yes thats when you cut off data. Some people have reported over 60 sec, some 15. Good luck!
No joy on O2 uk.
It worked for my unbrand asia HD7, Its great thanks !!!
it works kinda
Okay so I tried this and it updates successfully (had to wait nearly 60 second)
I was successfully running NoDo and I tested almost everything, but
DNS was not working, I tried over Wifi everything was fine, tried my data connection and got the error message "could not find DNS server.
I'm restoring my phone using zune, and see if that resolves it.
If that does, I'm just going to bite the bullet and unbrand that SOB with the NoDo rom using the method outlined by ansar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001019
Edit:
I actually I think it's a t-mobile issue, I left my nexus at home so I can't verify. To make matters worse I hard reset my phone, after downgrading my rom version. FUC*!!!
Edit 2:29Pm 03/30/2011
Yes it was a t-mobile thing. Hardreset and downgraded for no reason. Good news as soon as I reconnected to Zune I got NoDo update immediately
-good part is, Zune restore works flawlessly for those who are wondering.

Though I like to think I have pretty good sense of time, I used my watch just to be extra precise.
Hey guys, I wanted to clear some things up for you guys since some seem a bit confused about the timing.
The timing differs for EVERYONE! You need to time how long it says "checking for updates" or whatever. Once you get that time, lets call it "n", you do it again (with cellular data on). Before you search for an update again, I went to the "phone updates" in the settings tab, make sure the "check for updates via cellular data" is checked, you want to stay here while zune looks for your update. Now manually search for an update and at approximately (n-1)seconds you want to uncheck that box. Your phone should show a notification that says there's an update available.
IF IT IS TOO LONG OF A READ, BASICALLY EVERYONES TIMING IS DIFFERENT!
It worked on 3rd attempt due to timing. But it is okay. And it kept itself jailbroken and I can sideload anything just like before.
Great.
PS: This should be pinned, IMHO.

Can't Get In
I've tried about a dozen times, but I get a "Server Unavailable" error message each time. So, either the official update in not available everywhere yet, or everyone else is hogging the server bandwidth. I started trying about 1 p.m. CDT when I first saw this thread.
I have a stock Vivid.
I'll keep trying.

There's an issue with the update. It was failing halfway through for me, so I called AT&T. Of course, the person I spoke to is a bumbling idiot, so they directed me towards HTC. HTC confirmed the issue to me and said they are working on a fix as well as there being no timetable for the fix. Is anyone else having an issue updating OTA? Mine is downloading fine and my phone turns of and goes to a screen with progress bar. About a quarter of a way through the progress, I get an error icon.

I unlocked my bootloader, and rooted device, but I relocked my bootloader so I could do OTA. I'm still on the stock software, no ROMS or anything yet.

My update went off without a hitch. I am experiencing one side affect though... Seems that the phone no longer sees the AT&T Microcell.
I did noticed the under Base Band the radio did change, so I wonder if this is the root cause.
Is anyone else that has the MicroCell having this issue?

I suspect it was failing halfway through for you because you either froze or deleted some of the bloatware that came with the phone. The installer checks for those, and if it doesn't find them, the update will abort.
My phone was completely stock and unrooted and the update was installed and running in less than 10 minutes.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the update, though, as long as you haven't monkeyed around with your phone.
Not the greatest screen shots... will try to upload better shots if anyone is intrested.

Could you please tell us if its having this issue with the browser?
When you click on a bookmark after waking up the phone or randomly does it load the last page you were on instead of the bookmark you click?
Wondering because im using PG's RUU and it has this issue with the browser.
One of the users hopefully before doing the update will copy the ota off device to computer and upload somewhere for the cooks to start with higher build 3.26.502.56710RD

That's been my experience, but I stopped using the HTC browser. Download Chrome Beta, then go into app associations in the setting menu and make it the default app for URLs/links.
The issue doesn't happen with Chrome...and Chrome is a much better browser anyway IMO.

Has anyone been able to unlock their TF701 with the Asus Unlock Tool? I get the dreaded unknown error message that plaqued previous Transformers: unknown error occurred , which may be a network error please try later.
On previous Transformers I know it had to do with serial number issues. I checked the serial in settings and it matched the serial on my box. I literally just charged my tablet, and then immediately tried to unlock so I know it's not an app issue or anything like that. I don't even have Google synced. I just turned on Wifi and tried to unlock. I noticed that I was running an older firmware so I decided to manually upgrade that (auto upgrade didn't work even after clearing those two apps, can't remember their names) and the same error occurs. Tried rebooting of course and still nothing.
I'm guessing the unlock tool just isn't working right now? Sucks since I'm going to end up restoring all my stuff and then having to format during a future unlocking.
OP here with an update. I contacted Asus Support and they suggested a factory reset. Didn't think it would work but tried it anyways and of course it didn't. Any ideas out there...anyone successful with unlocking their 701?

i unlocked the ww 45, then manually upgraded to ww 47, because no matter if locked, automatic update didn't work.
what i noticed is, the unlocking made an extra 2 or so reboots and seemed to hang somewhere in between for a couple of minutes.
however it worked.
also nothing prevented me from reinstalling the update again, even already running ww 47.
another thing i noticed is, a wd my passport drive shows up as a memory card, but updating from there is not possible.
in my case it only accepted it from the 'internal' microsd (i used a 64GB sandisk)

I am not 100% sure about this but if you don't have your google info entered then the unlock utility cant flag your device in google play to prevent you from downloading DRM content. So unless it succeeds in that connection it won't unlock.
I suppose if you really wanted DRMed content you could get another google play account and unlock..... then maybe not. Personally I dont care about DRMed stuff, I refuse to use software which automatically assumes I'm going to pirate, and cripples my device in the process.

Hmm...that's a pretty good theory! I did end up syncing my Google account late last night after I did a factory reset and it still doesn't work. I just double checked that my account is indeed active and synced and it is. I tried the unlock tool again just in case and same error message. I don't understand why something straight out the box won't unlock with their own tool.
I'm going to wait, I guess, for a recovery before I flip out about this. I seem to remember having to wait for the tool after I finally got my tf201. After owning that device, I really want to make sure I am confident of the hardware. So far, though, it seems great.

It finally works. Tried just now and worked the first time. Must have been an issue with the Asus servers.
So I bought a Nexus 6 on Amazon when they were on sale. I used wugfresh NRT and unlocked it, rooted it (no custom recovery) and then updated the files for tethering. Its activated on Verizon if that matters-
I got an update today, I was running LMY48I and I choose the file to update to LMY48M. I used the NRT and sideloaded it, and after I was done it still shows I have LMY48I, and a few hours later the OTA shows up at in my notifications again.
What am I doing wrong?

what are you doing wrong? oh, thats an easy one..! you havent done any research into the phone that you are using. i bet you probably used a toolkit to root it as well. anyways, for the 20 billionth time ill repeat it. you can not take an ota if you are not completely, 100% stock. and root is not stock. on top if that, many completely stock nexus 6 cant take updates as well, if any system files have changed.

Your help is awful, condescending and rude. Maybe its the effect of the internet, but that is how it sounds. I did root using a toolkit- and I used the same toolkit to sideload the OTA. I assumed that I could do that since that is what the 40 threads I read about told me to do. I have a job and a wife and kids, I don't have the time to be a full time developer for my phone just to enjoy it. ALL I needed root for, was to enable tethering- otherwise I'm happy with stock android.
I will take one thing from what you did write and assume that because I edited the build.prop to enable tethering I will not be able to sideload OTA's either? IF I can't, thats fine with me- Can you tell me how to disable the OTAs?
Anyone else know how to read a question and offer an answer without insults?
I did find out how to hide the OTA notification- it was so easy I feel dumb- but not having used a 5.x android before this one I couldn't have known it.

But his answer is 100% correct. If you change any system file cannot OTA. Don't kill the messenger. No OTA with root, Kernel, change build.prop. Or custom recovery. If change any file no OTA.

i apologize, i was a little ruder than i meant to be. but not much, just a little. and i bet that you didnt learn much about the rooting process using the toolkit? anyways, before ever even rooting the phone, you have to do some research about it. or you wouldnt be asking such a basic question. heck, search can a rooted nexus 6 take an ota on google. one search, its all it really needs to take. anyways, it doesnt matter that you have a job, a wife, kids, this applies to everyone, do some research. im not a youngster myself, lol.
Obviously you read only the first sentences of everything I write... its Ok I notice you are from Brooklyn- I can forgive you for not using southern manners that I am accustomed to. I am not trying to take an OTA- I was trying to sideload it using ADB. I know I can't take it normally.
I'm currently downloading the system.img from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
I'm going to try and flash just the system.img and cache.img so I can update to the newest version without going back to stock.
I also found out how to hide the OTA update

As someone with a job, a wife and kid and I can assure you, nothing is more frustrating than to do the research after something happened, phone not working while waiting for calls or whatever other inconvenience.
What simms22 tried to convey is "know thy phone".
If you look for how to "root your nexus" you'll see how simple the pRocess is and you might feel better using the tools needed, rather than trusting some obscure tool that could always come with even more payloads.
Simms22 is someone who helped hundreds after they got themselves stuck after using root kits, his frustration I think lies more in the continued pushing of root tool kits for phones that don't need it.
The tone you took personal was directed at the root kits, at them being allowed, as they create just as much problems as they promise to fix.
Know thy Nexus, it's really a great thing.
Sorry if the reply is maybe a little long, must be all this not posting in a while

If you look for how to "root your nexus" you'll see how simple the pRocess is and you might feel better using the tools needed, rather than trusting some obscure tool that could always come with even more payloads.

oh, my, god.. its morfic!
Well, Hopefully I didn't mess things up using the toolkit instead of doing it the other ways: I know its not much harder to do it other ways, I'm just pressed for time. A few things about my situation:
I live in the country of Texas where I don't have ANY internet service providers. I have however, an old unlimited data plan from Verizon and a pretty good signal strength that I've boosted with a custom built amplifier (we also have metal roof that blocks a lot of signal otherwise)
I NEED internet so I don't become a savage. My phone tethering the internet is my PRIMARY way of having internet. Its very important that I can tether my unlimited plan...
After flashing the system.img and the radio img it booted back up no problems and I had lost root- I re-rooted it and changed the build.prop to allow tethering.
However- I dun F&*ked up somewhere, because now I can't seem to get LTE and my service is terribad. I'm assuming it was flashing the radios? Maybe because its verizon crap I need to do something else...
This has been a 5 hour ordeal (I watched tv during it all...) but now my phone doesn't quite do what i need it to do.

Last night before bed, the phone appeared to be working fine: it was tethering and data was working. This morning I find that I can't call out or receive calls. I tried lots of things to fix this: none worked. Any ideas?
It appears to be stuck hanging up...

have you tried a reboot?
Yes, and I tried a few other things. Right now, I've factory reset the device and I will re-root it and change build.prop I was trying to NOT have to do that. Right now its back to stock and not rooted... but it makes calls and is updated to the 48M build.
I was trying to enable VOLTE and HD calling which appears to be what messed it up probably (although flashing radios might have done it... )
I used the *#*#4636#*#* to check it and it was all sorts of messed up and not connecting to any towers. I'm in my classroom lab and it was making all the speakers go crazy... something was badly messed up
Mine did it last night. I had to wipe dalvik and cache in TWRP to get it back. Has happened occasionally since 5.0. The one I call can hear me. I don't hear them or the phone ringing. Completely dead on my end. VOLTE was disabled in settings.
