Ive tried using Root Browser and ES file explorer but no joy, when I save it it doesn't actually save.

Sony has a filesystem protection called RIC. You need to disable that. On unlocked bootloaders is easy, on locked i don't really know.
The only thing that kills RIC process is the @Nut XZDR recovery.

Are you rooted?!

Root Explorer should work.
You need to be rooted and have the system mounted as R/W
have the same problem. Phone is rooted, rootexplore asked for super ursser permission, is set to R/W and still i can't change gps.conf in etc folder! i mean i'm copy/paste the change one but it remains the same! WTF?
Have you tried setting the permissions? Long press and hit permissions. Select the ones you want and try again.
Check if the SU permission is correctly attributed to root explorer, or give it again

Hi mates. I am experiencing issues in editing the build.prop. I mean: even if I can access the file, when I try to save it, it tells me I cannot...
I use file expert to browse and jota text to edit (both free). Es file explorer does not allow me to set root option...maybe it it's not working with note yet...
In any case I don't know what to do to save the new build.prop.
Any suggestions?
Thx to all...

Es explorer works well. u might have found it if u searched.
Just make sure that u have enabled root options in the settings.
No.
As I wrote before, I don't know why but Es doesn't allow me to have root options enabled, so I was forced to find a new root explorer. The problem is that I can't save the new build.prop: the app tells me it cannot save the file...
Suggestions?

Install File Expert, go to settings and enable "Root Explorer" (under "File Explorer Settings"), go back, press menu, more and then "Mount".
/system is mounted RO by default.
use a shell and as root type
Code:
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
you should get a full access now to all /system filesystem.
THANKS

Thx mate. It worked. After chose the option "Mount", I edit also the properties of the file (write,read,all...). After that, File expert allowed me to choose the app to open the text file: I choose ES text, because Jota text continued not saving the file. I finally saved the build.prop file.
THX.

Thank you too.
uff!! what a pain in the ....ss!
Thanks guys! I enabled the Root checkbox, but I cant mount!
I get a Mount failed message.
I tried to be in the / directory when issued the Mount command for RW (using GUI in that application), and being inside /system as well - same error.
I've granted the application Superuser permissions, so thats not it.

I'm rooted with tmobile unlocked usa phone, I was trying to edit things in build prop with root explorer and it doesn't let me do any thing, I even tried to use SQLite editor and it returns with database is currently used
- Open Root Explorer
- Root/system/build.prop
- Press 'Mount r/w' on top
- r/w should now be displayed on left, where r/o was previously displayed.
- Long press build.prop
- Press 'Open in Text Editor'
- Press the text line you want to change*
* Proceed with caution
- Take a look here in post #1 under 'Root Explorer Method' for more info.
(Step #4 will not apply regarding your inquiry.)

Update/Edit:
See posts below.
I've included a screenshot.
The problem is Root Explorer does not allow you to edit text file more than 10kB.
If you have this problem, use ES File Explorer.

Yes definitely use ES file Explorer for any build prop edits. Root explorer will not save any changes

Im using default rom Android 5.0.2
Device unlocked and rooted
I want to switch off capacitiv buttons. I have read some methods and I applied them but I don't know why I could not save my modifications on the related files. (all under system folder )
I give root permission to es file Explorer I modified the files I have save them but after reboot they are all gone.
Now I did it with a kernel modifier app. But I want to turn it off permanently without any other program
Thanks for your answers
