Help needed - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Xperia Z1 (C6903 with Android 4.4.4) suddenly does not rotate automatically (although "rotate automatically" is switched on). when i take pictures they were rotated the wrong way. If i restart the phone things are fine but after sometime the same problem comes back. what might be the problem ? how to fix it and its just 3 months old. How to get max picture quality (best setting in camera app, currently using superior auto mode) in my phone ? and also how to get more sound from speaker

Did you recently go swimming or like put the phone underwater? Because I had that problem last summer whrn I got in a pool taking underwater photos my speaker couldn't make any sound and auto rotate wasn't working correctly. All you need to do is just wait for it to dry out. When I had this by two weeks time after going to the pool it was back to normal. Hope this helps.

No i didnt but still have the problem

[Q] Camera Unable to Focus

Hi,
I have a H1 and today morning i thought of taking some pictures in my garden. Everything went on fine and then all of a sudden my phone's camera was unable to focus on anything. it just stays blurry. and when in touch to focus it just keeps changing the metering. if i turn the app off for 5 min and turn the camera on again it focuses for a few seconds and then again loses focus.
Could this be a hardware issue or software issue? im running ARHD 7.3 with a stock kernel.

I had tried that among other things like changing kernel and upgrading from arhd 7.2 to 7.3..
.
But I noticed something, my battery was low so I was running at 1ghz and now it's at 50% and the problem has gone... Could be a mix of diff software issues.. Fixed for now though... Whew!!!

I am having exactly this issue..
After a few seconds camera can no longer focus -
Stock T-Mobile UK
Could be due to low power or might also be because of dirt/dust/spec in your camera lens

i fixed the issue buy just putting my phone on charge! it was definitely cause of the low battery. ive programmed setcpu to underclock it to 1ghz when it reached under 25% battery, so that was causing the issue..since then ive not seen the issue crop up again. i highly doubt dust can get in so there shouldnt be any need to panic about it.:good:

hmmmmm....wow i thought it was a custom rom issue..maybe rooting the phone and the installing a cpu governer like daemon or setcpu might help..you try setting minimum frequency to 1.2 and see if that helps..
coz i got myself an O2 version from uk and installed a custom rom on it.. and well one morning it started acting whacky..but putting it on charge helped..it could be possible..i sifted through the other posts and i believe we are the only 2 people who have faced this problem..but had it been a hardware issue it would not have been fixed so easily so im pretty sure its a software bug..
Could be a problem with the camera sensor over heating
Wow is that even possible? I did not know that.. The problem Did come up after I tried some panoramic shots and a few regular pics out in the sun..
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
T-mobile have offered to replace my phone
And HTC UK have offered to take it for repair..
Not sure which option gives me the quickest turn around.
It's annoying as it works fine from time to time.
That's sad.. Coz I know how it feels to not have your phone with you.. I was lucky then I guess that it got fixed for me automatically.. But dad's theory could be correct about the sensor heating up.. Keeping in mind that it's more sensitive to light in the first place
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
and the problem is back again i was out with my friends last night and we were testing low light capabilities and the moment i switched to hdr video the camera gave up again... now its not even able to focus after being put on charge.. i tappe the phone a couple of times and it focussed but again failed..you think its a hardware issue
? or a power management issue by the kernel??(tried stock and bulletproof kernels)
Definitely sounds like the sensor overheating. On a lot of dSLR cameras with video and live view, they switch off after a short time to avoid the sensor failing

But I left the phone along overnight and it still had trouble holding focus for too long.. 5 or 6 seconds max... Could there be a possible software issue too coz apart from me only one other person is facing the same issue..

That is why it sounds like hardware fault. If it was software, then more people wold be getting the problem.
Once it has cooled down for about 5-10 mins then it will work again, briefly.
Send back for a replacement, is my recommendation
i cant...i had it imported so its almost impossible to get it replaced..ill have to figure something else out...
Anyone else facing the same issue? it keeps cropping up again and again..

Camera not focusing and overheating after disassembly/reassembly

My Xperia Z1 fell off the table, the display broke and was replaced by a co-worker. The phone now works but:
- the back camera works but can't focus. The lenses seem to be stuck. Tried to unplug/replug the camera to no avail
- it "seems" to overheat (when using the camera I get a message after a while, saying that I must wait so that Xperia can cool down). However when using temp monitoring apps I hardly ever see anything over 45°C (no gaming). Maybe the overheating message really refers to the camera itself, rather than the phone?
I have checked but the phone seems to be correctly reassembled, so I don't see what could be wrong. Any suggestion?
No one?
hi bro, U must change your back camera part, your camera fail focus because the lens not precision again after fall down from table. and magnet inside camera which is used for focusing lens broken.
first check camera socket using magnifying glass,if dirty u can clean with toothbrush slowly.
Ok, done, the camera was replaced and the focus started working again. But the overheating is still there... I can't take more than a few pictures at a time before a message like "The camera was shut down to allow it to cool down" (my phone is in Italian, so I the translation mught not be accurate).
What to do?

Note 9 camera buzzing vibrating on 2x zoom

I just noticed recently my Note9 buzzes and vibrates when I use the 2x zoom. It does focus fine though. Anyone else has experienced this?
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
Yes
Mines doing it too. Did you figure out why ? The picture gets wavy too when zooming.
so its continuously buzzing when zoomed in or only when zooming for the small amount a time when switching to 2x
Didnt figure out why it does this. I even tried a complete factory reset. I will send it in for repair. It gets wavy and fuzzy if i try to focus and there is a bright lihht source in the frame. It buzzs and vibrates when it is trying to focus. It stops when it manages to focus properly.

Yeah that doesn't sound right. I've got the N960F too and zoom works fine in all modes that support it.
My guess is the aperture is freaking out. When changing aperture manually, you can just barely hear and feel a tiny click. It something was wrong with it, it might be rapidly changing apertures causing the buzzing maybe?
I just tried and listened in a silent room and I hear nothing.

Put it right up to your ear and you might be able to hear it when switching. It's really quiet.

Yep that happened on my Galaxy S2 after 2 years of use. Trying to focus but buzzes until it locks in...sounds like a hardware issue. My note 8 is fine.
I just tested this and there's no sound when using 2x zoom in auto mode.
Mine is doing this too. I find if i shake the phone it will stop vibrating. It sounds like something getting jammed. I have this phone with T-Mobile and i have the jump plan. Should i send this to them to fix or replace? Or should I contact Samsung? I don't want to have to pay for anything if its a hardware defect on a phone I've never dropped. So its not damaged from me.
I have this problem from the beginning- 1 week. Now i have the new update but the problem is still there.
When the 2x zoom lens try to focus, it makes vibrations and weird noises, and it can't focus... on sammobile someone has the same problem, i think it's a bigger problem.
Should i call the "samsung guard n9" and get a new one?
I've just had the new firmware update which was mostly camera related features, and now on 2X I'm getting this buzzing. What the heck is going on? A quick search on Google reveals a lot of people seem to be experiencing the same...

Your camera is switching and focusing to x2 normal as it should, right? The only thing you notice is the sound that comes from the module when switching? If so, your camera is fine. Even my s7e have sound from the OIS like clicking... working 2.5 years later like a champ and a lot of users reported it. Guess it's something similar here. If the camera module is broken, it will not focus and/or lead to other noticeable problems. If the sounds is too intrusive for you, you can send the phone for a repair/inspection.

No no, it's worse than that. When I switch to x2, when it's working normally it focuses and then it's fine. However, now it's failing to focus, the image is blurry and wavy and the device is physically buzzing (very gently but clearly attempting to do something mechanical and failing). Switching back to x1, it stops buzzing and focuses again.

The camera module is failing (you just described what was common camera module failing on HTC M8 back in the days, had a friend with it also), this can't be fixed via software, sadly it's for a service repair.

If you pinch to zoom while in camera mode does the zooming in appear wavey and stuttering? Someone else showed a video of this and it was a faulty camera apparently.

Give mi 5 minutes i will post a YT link with my "buzzing".

Here you have it. I know- ****y quality, but you can see what the problem looks like.
Samsung call service said, that they hear about this problem first time. I can give it to the service but the door-to-door 1 day service dosn't work, becouse they think noting is broken...

They are mistaken...it's an old issue that even affected my Galaxy S2...something gets loose and it has trouble focusing right (hence the noise). At first it works anyways, but over time it can degrade further. Hardware issue...would get it fixed if under warranty.

Image stabilisation on 5x tele zoom camera not working

Ever since I updated to EMUI 9.1.0.240 (or at least I only noticed this problem after installing that version) the image stabilisation on my zoom camera is not working.
I'm able to take photos, but the lens itself is constantly shaking around causing blur. I can hear it making these movements (like a buzzing sound) and can even see if moving if I look at it in the right light.
Interestingly, videos on the zoom camera are stabilised fine, so I can take snapshots whilst shooting in video mode, but this is far from ideal.
Anyone else experienced this? Do I need to send the phone back to Huawei?
Has nobody else had this issue?
I've never been that impressed with the 5x zoom image quality on mine, I've always found it hit & miss. I can't hear the focus motor 'seeking' for a lock on mine though....but my ears aren't the best, so it could be I guess.
I'm still on Android 9 too. Was hoping Android 10 might improve things when I finally get the update....though not holding out TOO much hope, but ya never know!
Sometimes I experience this issue. I hope to fix it with next updates.
So randomly it is now working fine. I have no idea why. The only things that happened recently were:
1. I went abroad, so flight mode was used.
2. My phone died overnight once - I was in a place with really bad signal and it went from 80% to dead so I wonder if it ate up the battery trying really hard for a signal.
Either way, it's working fine now since I turned it back on. Really weird. It has been faulty since about November.

How can I take photos in regular intervals without turning on the screen?

Hi all,
As the battery of my S8 is almost dead I thought instead of throwing it out I'd give it a second life as some kind of webcam. I want it to take a photo every 2 mins and upload it to a server. That works perfectly, except that the phone won't take a photo when the screen is off - even when it's not locked. I tried something like Turn on screen - take photo -turn off screen but that worked neither. In fact, as I put it on a tripod on my sleeping room window facing outside, I don't want to be disturbed at night by the phone screen.
So my question is, how can I make the phone take a shot every 2 mins with the screen being off?
The phone is running Android 9 and not rooted, but if that's what is required I am fine with doing so. If there is another solution than Tasker, I am also happy to hear about it. (Note: I tried the IP camera app which is really cool, but the phone gets super hot, thus I consider it a fire hazard)
