Hi there,
I got the update to Lollipop 5.0.2 (UK version 23.1.A.0.726) last night and I'm not sure what I've done wrong but I have no notifications on my lockscreen. I have a carrier-unlocked phone, and I'm not rooted and everything is completely stock.
Background: my previous phone was a Nexus 4 so I've had access to Lollipop for a month or so and had it all set up correctly on that phone.
What I would like is the "show cards to say which app has notifications but hide the actual message text on the lockscreen" option. I believe I have that turned on in Settings > Sound and notification > When device is locked > "hide sensitive notification content". That's exactly the setup I had on my Nexus 4 and it worked just fine. I've also set Gmail/Email/Whatsapp as "priority apps" under Settings > Sound and notification > App notification
Troubleshooting guesses:
I have my work email account on the phone which needs Exchange which increases the phone's security, could that be interfering? It already restricts my security options so that I can only unlock my phone with PIN/password, but I had it on my Nexus 4 and I could still get lockscreen notifications
I have stamina mode on, but I have whitelisted Whatsapp, GMail and Email to allow them to continue working
What currently happens is I wake my phone and get a completely blank lockscreen, swipe up and type my pin and then when I go back to my homescreen I have notifications in the notification bar. I'm getting notification sounds and a blinking LED, even when the screen is dark, but I wake the phone and see an empty lockscreen.
What am I doing wrong? (Sorry for my noobishness).
it's because of the exchange/enforced pin settings, see my reply on this thread

I had a nexus 4 like the OP and notifications worked fine on my old phone running lollipop but now I have changed to the xperia Z3 c notifications don't work using the same exchange settings, so it seems to be related to the phone not the android version.

there is an issue/bug/feature in the z3c lollipop version, whenever you're using enforced pin security the notifications are hidden, there was a whole discussion about this on the official sonymobile forums with a lot of angry people who updated their z3c to lollipop and now don't see notifications because of those settings, so i'm afraid i must insist that it has to do with lollipop, must be something the sony dev team tweaked

Sorry, that's what I meant. This is not a generic lollipop issue, or related to exchange, this is something specific Sony has done to the version of lollipop on the Z3c, i.e. Sony not Google.

exactly, and the way to resolve it [until the next firmware update whenever that comes] is to use a 3rd party software, either that or downgrading back to kitkat
Solved!
Ok, so I've read your replies and had a few days to think and to google and I've managed to get notifications working on the lockscreen with an Exchange Active Sync account. I have Lollipop 5.0.2 (UK version 23.1.A.0.726), I do not know if this works for other versions.
Ok, there are three ways to get the lockscreen notifications working depending on what you prefer:
Method 1 - Simply re-add your Exchange account
If you like using Sony's email app to access your work emails then according to a thread on the Sony help forums (can't link, no link privileges) then do this.
Go to Email > Settings > Delete account. (That doesn't delete your emails, just your phone's access to them).
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Exchange Services and clear data/cache.
Restart phone.
Go to the Email app and re-add your work account.
Settings > Sound and Notifications to configure your lockscreen notifications.
Method 2 - Download a more up-to-date version of Exhange Services
AOSP Lollipop added the option to let the GMail app handle your Exchange email as a separate account within the app. This is what I'd become used to on my Nexus4 so this is what I've done on my Z3c. The version of Exchange Services that Sony bundles with Lollipop is 6.1, but there's a more recent version that you can download from apkmirror.com.
Here's what I did:
Go to Email > Settings > Delete account. (That doesn't delete your emails, just your phone's access to them).
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Exchange Services and clear data/cache *and* disable it.
Restart phone
Go to apkmirror.com on your phone, search for "Exchange Services" and download Exchange Services 6.5-1729047. Install the apk.
Open the GMail app > Settings > Add account. You now should have an option to add an Exchange corporate account. This will not merge your work email with your GMail account, instead you'll be able to toggle between the accounts.
Finally, Settings > Sound and notification > to set up your lockscreen notifications.
Method 3
Download an alternative email client as various others upthread have mentioned.
I hope this helps
P.s. Usual disclaimer about doing things at your own risk etc ...

When I bought the phone I remember plugging in my 2 gmail accounts and then days later noticing that some email was better formatted. Then i realized that the notification dropdown actually takes me to 2 different applications.
Why would it be set up so that I am managing the same email account through 2 different application? The gmail application does a better job of formatting the email so can I turn off the email application. Its a shame that the email application is stuck on the bottom of my home screen.
Also is there a way I can prevent deleted email from sounding an audible alert and placing itself in the notifications dropdown? For example I delete and email and then 30 minutes later when a sync occurs I get a notification that i have new email. Its new email to the trash bin.

Its actually very easy to do this, First thing first, lets get that nasty e-mail icon off the bottom of your touchwiz. Check out the PMC (Pimp my Captivate) Guide in the General Section, for a better explanation (and i highly recommend you root, flash custom recovery, enable sideloading, and remove bloatware as per the guide), but essentially, open your applications drawer, hit menu, view type, custom, hit menu, hit arrange, then you can drag and drop out of the bottom row.
Next, open up that same e-mail client, hit menu -> account notifications -> uncheck email notifications .. done
I'm halfway done with your instructions. Thanks for the good info.

No problem, hope you enjoy your new lease on touchWiz (since you can completely customize the bottom buttons now )
Since the Gmail app isn't yet working on our rooted Nooks, I've been using K-9 Mail (Version 3.319). It works fine, but would be a bunch better if I could figure out a couple of features.
First, is there any way to link the K-9 Mail to Contacts, so I wouldn't have to type the recipient's email address every time I send a message?
And, second, is there a way to change or remove the Signature ("Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Please excuse the brevity.") I had it removed once -- on an earlier version of the program -- but now can't find that option in Settings.
Thanks for the help.
When you're on the Inbox screen, hit the menu soft key, go to More -> Settings -> Account Settings
Then go to Sending mail -> Manage identities -> <your identity>
From there, you can un-check the Use Signature button and/or change your signature
Account -> Account Settings -> Sending Mail -> Signature.
Sorry, I haven't looked at B&N's custom contacts stuff yet. But I'd take patches
So, not sure what I did, but my Facebook account has disappeared from my list of accounts on my phone. When I go to add a new account, the Motorola Facebook icon is already checked. If I select it, it says I can only have one Facebook account. So, it both does and doesn't think i have a Facebook account. The icon in the list from the Facebook app does nothing, which i think is normal behavior. I do not get profile pics from Facebook in my contacts, so it is not syncing.
Truth be told, this is only an annoyance. I do not want to reset to factory (I have way too many apps to reinstall, which would be more annoying than this problem). But, if anyone can think of how I could manually convince the system to let me re-add the account, any suggestions would be appreciated.

hi, I have exactly the same problem, so I will aslo grateful for help in this matter
I had the same problem, and I did a trick with SQlite Editor
Install it then,
In SQLite Editor you select: Accounts Storage -> serviceaccounts.db -> accounts -> then you delete the line which have "Facebook" in the column "account_pretty_name"
After a reboot I was able to re-enter a Facebook account in the blur app.
And now it works perfectly

This is an older thread, but I'm having the same problem on my new RAZR MAXX (Verizon, unrooted, stock 2.3.6). I have 2 facebook icons under "My Accounts", one that allows me to put my log in info in and nothing else, the second that does nothing when I click it. I am not able to get my calendar or my contacts to sync with facebook and I'm at a loss.
What I've tried so far:
Rebooting
Deleting the FB account info and re-entering it within the My Accounts settings.
Uninstalling FB app (the unresponsive FB icon goes away in My Accounts), reinstalling and rebooting.
When that didn't work I ended up calling the new Google help and the person I talked too ran me through the steps I had already taken and suggested I contact FB as it appears that the issue is with the app. I am pulling the app straight from Google Play, but it would make sense as that is the culprit since it's not syncing with Calender or Contacts.
Hey guys,
I just want a confirmation if this problem only exists on my phone or rom. The E-Mail app from sony xperia accepts perfectly my mail account but if I setup a second the app returns to main screen (after mail account assistent completed) and displays my first mail account with a short toast message like "mail account not found! Maybe it got deleted".
Phone: Xperia Z C6603
Rom: Link: [ROM][LB/UB][5.1.1 .222][ v1.5.0 ][ Fully Featured! ] Customized Sony 5.1.1
I think this is up to the new E-Mail app from the latest update. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks!
I have exactly the same problem on my Xperia Z3 Compact (no custom rom). Did you find any fix for it?
Edit: I don't exactly know how I fixed it, but it seems that clearing the apps cache before creating a new email account helped. Also I alternated between creating the account directly in the email app and under Settings -> Accounts...

Yeah found a fix too. Adding an account manually, then add an account with automatic setup (e.g. gmail). After that you can add as much accounts manually as you want and you can delete the automatic setup account too.
I have the exact same problem.
I can add one activesync account (whichever one), but when I try to add the seccond account it just finishes without an error but I can't find it anywhere.
I've tried clearing email app cache but it didn't help.
Same here
I have working 3 email accounts.
Accidentally cleared cache & data in email app. (wakelock detector)
After that I was able to access only one account.
It passes all settings but only one stay's active.
(I have all google services disabled)
Before smashing the phone tried to re enable all google stuff.
After that (phone reboot etc..)
Now I can put how many emails I want and it work.
Now disabled google again and all 3 emails work.
I've tried clearing cache, wiping, reinstalling a new Rom, new Gapps. No matter I try I can't seem to get new contacts which I create on my device to then get synced to my Google account.
*Yes, I'm saving my new contact to my Google account (not to my phone's SIM card)
*Yes I've made sure that Contacts is syncing, and have tried forcing a manual sync numerous times. It says that has synced, and will even download new contacts I create on my Google account (on a computer)
Any ideas?
Running CrDroid 7.1.2
Nexus 6
Which contacts app are you using? Not familiar with that ROM so I don't know if it might come with an AOSP contacts app?
In the google app, in the edit contact screen, right at the top (under the picture) is where it'll tell you where it is saving the contact. Just to double check that account is correct on the contacts that aren't syncing?
In settings -> apps -> contacts app, are the permissions all enabled? Is there more than one contacts app listed? If so, disable the one you're not using.
I think you said you checked this, but in settings -> apps -> accounts -> Google is contacts enabled? And settings -> apps -> accounts -> the 3-dot menu is auto-sync checked?
There's always the age-old; turn sync on/off multiple times thing ☺
The last thing I would try is to remove the account from my phone then add it back. There was a day when that process felt like part of the ROM flashing procedure. ?

That was only to check the internet connection and access to your Gmail account.
The post of @ktmom doesn't solve the sync issue. In that case you could try to install the Google contacts app from the play store.
@NLBeev
@jon.s.nelson
I assumed that there was internet available since in the OP it was stated that contacts which had been updated online via a PC were being downloaded to the phone.
The choke point seems to be getting the contacts created on the phone to sync up to google. That's why I focused on app related issues, with the end point being a hiccup in the actual account on the phone.

Yes. The security update of September contains a new Google contacts app.
Good to know. I'm using PN and we don't have an update yet.
