AT&T S6 Edge losing network connection - Why? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Just upgraded from my M7 to the S6 Edge last Sunday. Since then the S6 has randomly disconnected from both voice and text service twice. The display indicates strong signal and that it's connected but no incoming calls or texts go through. The first time required a reboot to regain connectivity and the second time it took over 5 minutes before it returned. Attempts to make outgoing calls timed out with no connection. Do Not Disturb mode is off and the phone is provisioned correctly. There's no warning that this is happening until someone contacts me using an other method. Any ideas?

I would try a factory data reset. Whenever I've had problems that almost always fixed them. Make sure you back up everything since it totally erases the SD card. If that doesn't work, get a replacement.

I have a complaint out with ATT right now regarding my text messages. Weirdest thing ever - I'm NOT getting text messages at random times from random contacts on my phone but I AM getting them on MightyText, how odd is that? I can't imagine why this is happening, and they've asked me every question in the book all the way down to if my phone had any damage, water or otherwise.... I just got this thing, no it isn't broken!
Hopefully an update or something with figure it out

Try disabling VoLTE option

Has this been happening on your WiFi or mobile data or both? If on WiFi Check with your router it can potentially be dropping packets. Please specify

I have a Microcell and I've unplugged it to see if that was the problem. It was still connecting fine on wi-fi when it did this. I ran a packet loss test and after five minutes there was 0% loss.

Aside from the packet loss did you manage to measure the jitter on the line? Also when connected to the microcell are you surfing through the WiFi or is it using your mobile data still?

It's not jitter either. A 5 minute run all showed times of <1ms . When this occurred the phone had been idled for a few hours and just didn't seem to wake up. It seems to be confined only to voice and text service.

Sounds like your network is fine. Just have to see what att has to say about the smscreen and voice. By the way have you try turning off the volte (enhanced 4g lte) feature as well ?

Well....it just did it again. Definitely not a conflict with the microcell. It seems that once the phone is on and displaying for 3 minutes or so then it will start to work. I've disabled enhanced LTE to see if that makes a difference. It's done this about 48 hours apart now three times. I'm about to dump this thing back on AT&T. I'm beginning to wish I had gone with an M9.

Phone was replaced under warranty. The new one doesn't have this issue at all. Chalk it up to a bad sample.

[Q] While in Europe: Moto X won't reconnect to cell data, post-WiFi use

Hey guys/gals -
I got my Moto-X a few weeks ago, and have been using it without issue on AT&T. Unfortunately, I'm just wrapping up my first trip through Europe with this phone (left my iPhone 5 at home), and I've noticed a very odd thing over the last week.
For some reason, my phone will not re-establish a cellular data connection once it has connected to WiFi (and subsequently disconnected from WiFi). I have noticed this - consistently - in both Germany and Italy. In all cases, once WiFi is no longer connected, I can see that the cellular data network is available (the 4G or E logo shows up, grayed out, next to the cell bars) but it will not reestablish. The only way to obtain a cellular data connection is to restart the phone.
I've tried going into airplane mode; I've tried cycling cellular data. Nothing I can think to try causes the cellular network icon ("4G" or "E") to cycle from gray to white...I simply cannot get back online without a full restart. But once I've restarted it works fine - so long as I don't jump on WiFi.
The phone isn't unlocked; it's an AT&T device, with no APN tweaks.
Anyone have any idea what could cause this behavior? Unfortunately, it's going to be another four or five weeks before I'm back here to test any ideas...but I figured I'd reach out while the issue is fresh.
Cheers.
Just to chime in, I've also seen this issue on mine, but it only happens with certain WiFi access points. After using the Cisco ones at work the problem occurs, but my Asus N66U doesn't seem to upset it.

Signal issues?

Is anyone having signal issues with the axon pro? My phone keeps going in and out of signal, and while my status bar says that I have "no service" I will have full bars, but only when connected to WiFi. When not connected to WiFi, all the bars are lost.
Is anyone else experiencing these signal issues or bug of this sort? Just trying to determine the root of the problem.

When did you start having problems? After the latest update?
I think it is a problem with the Wifi calling feature. After trying wifi calling and having problems (the other person couldn't hear me), I decided to turn it off.
After turning it off I started having crazy issues - the wifi calling would turn on even though I had turned it off. After turning off wifi completely, data wouldn't work so I rebooted the phone. After rebooting the phone, I couldn't get a signal at all. I tried rebooting the phone multiple times but the signal wouldn't come back. I switched SIMs and it still wouldn't work. At this point I was thinking there was a hardware problem with the phone so I was considering calling ZTE to get a new one. But I tried one last thing - I turned wifi back on and made a wifi call - the signal came back! So it is a software problem.
So I turned on wifi calling again but configured for "cellular preferred". It seemed to work well for a while, but then a few days later went crazy notifying me every few seconds that wifi calling was turning on/turning off.
To keep the phone stable I have now unfortunately had to setup the phone with "Wifi Calling Preferred". Thankfully soon after I did this I started getting error "REG09: Missing 911 address" so it doesn't try to use wifi calling anymore.
No point calling ZTE support because their phone support is appallingly bad. They won't understand the issue, they won't give me a ticket number. All they will say is either "reset the phone" or try to send me a new phone which will just make me lose time and lose data. They had a website where you could raise tickets for a little while...but it looks like it has been blocked now as it could have been too useful .

Trying posting to their Twitter account and report the issue, that is how i got their attention. Also when you call them (here in the USA) tell them that you have already done a reset on your phone and that did not resolve the issue!!!

I got some signal issues too I only get 2 to 3 tower usually but at time its completely dead and until I reboot my phone signal doesn't Pop up ...and at times even though I have like 2 signal tower it shows emergency calls oly...I don't use WiFi calling as am on straight talk.but the WiFi calling feature suddenly pops up in the notification bar giving an error message u can't swipe that off the notification bar too u gotta go to MORE in settings and switch on and switch off the WiFi calling feature to remove the error msg from the notification bar .
Signal keeps fluctuating call clarity is a lil bit poor comparing it to my old lg g2 . macro focus doesn't work at all u can't focus a thing that's really close in auto. I dono what to do with this phone.it just doesn't satisfy the basic need of a phone voice calls and message(messages take a long time to send ).

Again, not worth my breath. If you check the new thread someone called up ZTE about the issue and they blamed it on T-Mobile (which is complete and utter BS). When I called about the camera issues they tried to blame it on Google. Why waste my time to be told lies? The support is completely s***.

Well hopefully ZTE will come out with a fix really soon, I don't think that they want to lose the users they have.......
Loss of at&t signal
In one location that I frequent I always sit there without a cellular signal while people around me are using their cell phones
LTE signal strength sporadic
My Pro shows a few bars for a couple seconds, then NO SIGNAL for a few seconds. ZTE is not fixing this problem? It has been going on since January. Now is September.
For those with this issue, does a factory reset change this behavior, or at least the frequency of it?

Mobile Data connectivity Issues & Spen Button loose?

I know people have had Wi-Fi connectivity issues...but has anybody else had Mobile Data connectivity issues? It's a new phone and a new sim card but I'm still having issues? I had to reset my device in order for me to browse the internet or for me to send texts...TWICE within an hour. Any suggestions for this?
Also, is anybody's SPen button loose? I don't know how secure it's suppose to be, but if I run my finger back and forth as if I'm rubbing it, the button rocks back and forth as if it's loose. Not sure if it's supposed to be as secure as the home button on the phone or what

Wi-Fi and Network issues are being experienced by just about everyone. Because it's so widespread, this leads me to believe it is a software issue and we just need new radios.
Your SPen is like mine. Fairly certain it was made this way and is not supposed to be like the Home button.
Cheers
hum funny i havent had any wifi or 4g problems. I remember they said the s7 edge had wifi problems where it would randomly disconnect and not reconnect.
Which i didnt have that problem on the s7 edge either. (got the phone 2weeks after launch).
But with the note 7 no problems here. And my spend is pretty stiff no loose feeling on the button, feels almost like the home button
I've had really bad issues too. Like having to restart my phone to get data to work. receiving text messages late. Phone calls going straight to voicemail.

Same here. I simply notice that after an hour I dont seem to receive any kind of notification, suspicious. So I check my phone and keep getting pop up of "no connectivity please check your network". Both Data and Wifi will not connect. Even toggling airplane mode won't establish a connection. Only option is to reboot. This has been happening to me at least twice a day.

I have been having those problems too except it's with my data and regular service. If my phone loses service somewhere the only way to get it back is to restart the phone it's ridiculous and the signal is way worse then my wife's S7 Edge

id say report it to samsung via online chat and they will make a case about it and hopefully they will make a patch.
but as said i dont get that problem. Background data and everything works. my package tracking, ebay, facebook and all that work. No miss called or messages.
Definitely have an issue when I roam on AT&T then come back to a T-Mobile area. Have to put it on airplane mode and then back for it to acquire the network again.
I haven't had any WiFi issues, but I rarely use WiFi. I have noticed that my Note 7 like to switch to AT&T Edge (which is basically unusable for data), even when there is T Mobile LTE available. I constantly have to manually search for a select T Mobile for it to switch back. I don't want to disable roaming, because it's necessary where I live, but I can't seem to keep the phone from switching over to AT&T or get it to switch back to T Mobile when service is available. I just switched from a Nexus 6P which very rarely had this problem in the same area.
I too have experience Data loss where I have to toggle airplane mode or reboot. But this only happens at my residence which has a poor to fair T-Mobile signal.

I had no issues, maybe don't use phone often enough to notice, but I have been in and out of network and it works fine without any reset. but here is the funny part: when i went to activate my N7 (from home computer), I had to call rep, of course from my old phone. So while he is trying to switch me, he sms me some code to input (still on old phone), didn't get it, sends again, nothing still, then my old phone connection goes dead. So i grab my new phone, sure enough, I'm switched, new phone now works. That was around 9pm. 3AM my phone beeps, I got 2 SMS messages with codes from 6 hrs ago. Since they were originally send to my old phone, which worked fine like forever, I would speculate the issue was on TMO side, not my phone. So I wonder if some of the issues some of you experienced are coming from T-mo? I don't know, like somebody forgot to program new phone into system and things hang up,
I switched the mobile network selection to manual instead of automatic and turned off data roaming and haven't had this problem since.
I have had no issues like this? Why are some many users having issues with this phone. The Note 7 is built pretty dam well. All my friends i know have this phone and no issues with them as well. Before jumping the gun on issues please do research.

I'll try this and keep an eye out. Next step for troubleshooting will be to get the SIM activated that came with the N7 instead of using the one from the S7. I've read that using a SIM from a previous phone has information stored on it and could be the cause for some problems. That just doesn't make much sense to me since they both have the exact same T-Mobile bands but I guess you never know. Thanks for the tip!
I have noticed on my N7 if I lose service (building elevator, etc) and then come out into open air, one out of 5 times it never reconnects. I try to cycle through Airplane Mode and out, but that does nothing. The only way to get data back is by restarting the phone. Super annoying, especially when I have a password on the phone and a sim lock so by the time phone is back up and running to use, it takes some time. Very frustrated with this!

I just experienced this. Ironically I had full LTE Data bars but 0 connectivity running T-Mobile stock Firmware and NOT rooted.
At least 3 times in the morning my data has been off, showing full bars but no LTE, a reboot was the only thing that got it up and running again.
As for the S-pen I'd say it's semi loose when fondled..

data turning off, intermittent wifi issues

My note 8 is having weird issues. I'm on Sprint, with an unlimited plan. I'll suddenly get apps complaining I'm offline. I've got full LTE signal. Go into data, and data is off. Turn it back on and most of the time it's all good. Sometimes I need to reboot to get the data back. Also WiFi will disconnect. I can be within 10 feet of the router and suddenly it drops. When I go into WiFi, it shows connecting, then reconnects. I did a factory reset and only added a few basically apps, thinking I may have an app that is hosing things... No change. Anybody else having these issues?
Me too, it is very frustrating. It does it to me almost every-time i use it.

wifi Calling problems.... (help? pls?)

First off, I can make outgoing calls 100% of the time, and never have any problem except a split-second delay (as expected with VOIP)
Receiving calls though......
First, wifi calling randomly turns off, with a note I find later about "wifi calling is not available at this location" ---- yes, I have poor reception, and I know wifi calling requires an always-active GPS signal so rain or clouds can kill it --- but it never turns back on once the storm/cloud/whatever is gone, it stays turned off until I manually turn it back on.
Second, even when it is turned on, I will randomly get no notification - no ring, no vibrate, the screen stays black, and no "miss call" notification, I just get told later that someone tried to call me and it went straight to voicemail.
Third, when it does register an incoming call, I will swipe to answer and the phone app will... kinda half-freeze... it acts like it's trying to answer the call, where the red end button appears, but all the other buttons are greyed out except message. It's in a strange limbo-like state of being answered and not... when this happens usually the other party will connect and can hear me, but whatever they say never reaches me.
Fourth, I answer the call, everything seems fine, I say hello and just hear my own voice echoing, and even though I answered the call, they never connect and end up on voicemail.
I know that WiFi calling is a "new technology" (even if we've been using VOIP for years....) and Sprint hasn't "ironed out the bugs" yet, but is there anything I can do to improve it?
I have tried doing a hard reset on the phone, updating PRL/settings/OS, changing the phone data mode from LTE to CDMA, sprint tech changed out my SIM card for a new one, airplane mode (which doesn't work because it turns off GPS)... none of it works and I still miss a good 60%+ of my calls... any other suggestions?

do u have a vpn active?
plus i dont think GPS has anything to do with "WIFI" calling.
as long as wifi is connected to a proper wifi network, that should be all you need.( other than if a VPN is activated or wifi network is congested/ to many AP ssids with overlapping channels, then it should work fine.)
I did before the hard reset (one-dot), I dont now. so it didn't seem to matter...

You have to have an active GPS signal for "e911 services" --- yes the app claims you can set your location manually, but doing so does nothing and as soon as my phone loses cell/GPS reception, wifi calling goes off and will NOT come back on till reception is restored (also I've used two of Sprints Femtocells and both of them required an active GPS for e911 so....)

yeah.... since about the start of this year my LTE speeds have gone down (though only in actual use! --- run speedtest and magically I have like 50mbps, even though I can't watch youtube even at 144p without it buffering and asking my phone "Alexa Next Track" returns an error about connectivity) Also my reception in my home has gotten worse in the last couple months --- for the last 17.5 years I've been able to make/receive calls on sprint over normal cellular without issue as long as it wasn't raining (yes, I've been with Sprint for almost long enough to raise a child.... they started out as the best carrier in my area, believe it or not), but now even though my phone reports 2 bars (out of like 8 or 10), I recieve almost no calls, and drop outgoing ones very frequently unless I switch to WiFi Calling.
So... yeah... I figured it was actually bad implementation on either Samsung or Sprint's part, but I was hoping there was something I could do to improve it....
