I bought a Xiaomi Mi Note LTE (Dual Sim) from China recently but cannot use LTE 4G in the UK.

It turned out that Mi Note LTE (Dual Sim) support LTE B3 and B7 (The international version supports B1 and B3)
But my carrier Vodafone UK rolled out LTE throughout the courtry with band 20 (800Mhz) but LTE Band 7 is only available for 3 cities at the moment. ( Only EE and Three support B3/B7, which is the reason I cannot see 'Vodafone 4G' and 'O2 4G' but 'EE 4G' and 'Three 4G' in the network list. source, source, source)
So I tried the guides: here, here, here and here to unlock B20 on my phone. (Many thank to @BlackSoulxxx, @fffft, @olokos, @devilsshadow and @Albirew)
I went through all the steps and set the value into 6828 (and even 6829) permanently but still cannot see 'Vodafone UK 4G' or 'O2 UK 4G' on the network list.
I googled a lot but still couldn't find the solution.
I found others who have Xiaomi Mi Note or Redmi have the same problem and want to unlock different LTE bands. But some of them stuck in the middle of the steps especially the prerequisites and couldn't go through. Maybe unlocking other LTE bands is working for them. So I decided to write the step by step guide and hopefully throw out a brick to attract a jade.
The lawyers made us do it.
We have to post an obligatory warning.
We don't think that this mod will cause you any problems. But we can't guarantee that. I never tried it on devices other than Mi Note LTE (dual sim).
You assume all risks if you proceed, including the risk that your phone might object, meltdown, brick or void your warranty.
Let's start
1. Root your device.
2. enable diag mode by entering *#*#717717#*#* on the dialer and download the driver from here (thank @m11kkaa).
Once diag mode enabled, you can see the Device Manager from PC like this:
then right click the first 'MI NOTE LTE' and install the driver you just downloaded
you will see this if successful
3. Download and install QPST
4. Download and install QXDM
5. Open the "QPST Configuration" program, you should see below straightaway:
You couldn't see this until you finished step 2 successfully
6. Now select the QPST Start Clients > Software download > Backup > Start. Wait until the status says 'memory backup completed'. This saves a backup copy of your phone's stock NV memory to your computer in case you need it later.
7. Leave QPST open and navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Qualcomm\QXDM\Bin folder. And right click on QXDM.exe > run as administrator.
8. Go to options -> communications
Target port -> select COM6, then OK
9. select Nv Browser from view
10. select LTE from Category Filter, then you can see 06828 and 06829
11. click on line 06828 (lte_bc_config); click the Read button, save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), the original value on my device is 2061584302148
12. Let's talk more about the value, source
in my case, the value for 06828 is 2061584302148, using Calculator (programmer mode) to change it to binary value is
11110000000000000000000000000000001000100
from right to left, the 3rd, 7th, 38, 39, 40,41 bit are 1, which means band 3/7/38/39/40/41 are enabled
I want to enable band 20 so change the 20th bit to 1
11110000000000000000010000000000001000100
the corresponding Dec value is 2061584826436
13. click on line 06828 (lte_bc_config); click the Read button, replace Input value with 2061584826436 (please don't be an idiot and don't edit the empty one with "ext" in the name) and click on Write button
OK THAT IS IT. Restarted Mi Note, and then see if the value set permanently.
BUT LTE BAND 20 IS STILL NOT UNLOCKED.
I changed the value to 2061584826368 which is
11110000000000000000010000000000000000000
Disable B3 and B7 to see if the value is working, It worked, I cannot see EE 4G and Three 4G any more.
let me know if anyone unlocks other bands
ps: don't forget to disable diag mode by entering *#*#717717#*#* on the dialer.
DID I MISS ANYTHING?!
and thanks in advance for any idea.
Thanks @BlackSoulxxx, @fffft, @olokos, @devilsshadow,
@Albirew and @m11kkaa anyway even if I couldn't unlock Mi Note, I had a lot fun playing it.

band 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41 would be:

Hello,
I need to unlock just one band on my Redmi Note, band 20. I don't have a Mi Note, I have the cheaper more affordable option the Redmi Note 4G.
However, I know this trick will work on it, it's a similar Snapdragon chipset, I just haven't tried it yet, as I'd love some advice before diving in.
Currently, my phone has:
FDD-LTE (1800/2100MHz) & TDD-LTE (2600MHz)
So basically, that's band
2100Mhz - Band 1
1800Mhz - Band 3
2600Mhz - Band 7
I'm on Three UK, which only has 2 bands on it's current spectrum,
Band 3 and Band 20, which of course is 800 and is NOT unlocked by this phone.
Is it possible to unlock Band 20, without losing other bands. I only need Band 3, and Band 20, and I'll have full 4G support.
10000000000000000000000000000000000000101
Yikes, this is my binary. Which is more confusing than ever. I get that it's little endian, so that means left to right, 101 that's 1 and 3. I'm confused though why Band 7 hasn't got a bit and what the very last bit refers to in my case.
---------- Post added at 01:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------
OK. I think I've found my mistake. Apparently, it supports Band 3 and Band 40. So maybe not Band 7 after all. This would make sense.
Band 1
Band 3
Band 40
I'll work it out for sure now
---------- Post added at 01:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------
Balls
10000000000000000000000000000000000000101
There's 41 characters there. That's now messed up my head because surely that means it supports Band 1 and 3 and 41, not 40. I'll continue to work on this.
---------- Post added at 02:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 PM ----------
Nope. I was right. I downloaded LTE Band Calculator off the Play Store, and 1 3 and 41 = 1099511627781, the number in my NV RAM.
What the hell is going on!!? I've read this phone supports 1, 3, 7, then it was 1, 3, 38, then 1, 3, 40... Now my NVRAM tells me it's 1, 3, 41.
Christ almighty. Apparently, band 41 is accessible from devices with Band 38 unlocked, but that doesn't make sense because India is running on Band 40.
Seriously, getting, pissed, off.
OK. An update.
I set my value to 10000000000000000000010000000000000000101 which is 1099512152069. This is Band 1, 3 20, and.... 41, which was apparently unlocked before. Not convinced though.
So far, can't tell whether it's actually done anything. EE 4G is still there, which makes sense because they have strong 4G in the UK. O2 which has piss poor 4G in the UK, only use Band 20, so seeing that as an option in the Network selection list would be a perfect way to check how valid this experiment is. I'm currently in Wilmslow in which O2 suggests I should have strong coverage, but nothing showing up yet, only EE.
However, I'm in a building, and it's a big building, and signal varies. Really, the best time to know is outside. Perhaps I will get O2 showing up with 4G in the network selection as an option.
The saga continues
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:19 PM ----------
Hah, another update. OpenSignal map, which uses data collected from actual devices shows that O2's 4G data is piss poor in Wilmslow (despite their claims). I'll wait then, and report back with further results
what is the device code? mine HM Note 1S CU KHKCNBL.
Bad news, looks like you can't unlock band 20 OnePlus One users found this out. Perhaps you can't unlock band 20.

My last couple of posts seems to possibly clear this up. It's very possible that Qualcomm haven't enabled Band 20 in the modem.
I wonder though, if we flashed a modem for a different device, whether we could unlock band 20....... food for thought isn't it?
---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ----------
From the Zenfone 5 with the same chipset, again no band 20:
GSM: Band 2/3/5/8
WCDMA: Band 1/2/5/8
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39
FDD-LTE: Band 1/3/7
TD-LTE: Band 38/39/40/41
From the Lenovo 856:
(4G): FDD - LTE: B1 (2100 MHZ) / B3 (1800 MHZ)
However, contradicting all that, from Moto G 4G, which uses the same chipset:
US Model: Bands 2, 4, 5, 17 (1900, 1700, 850, 700 MHz)
European model: Bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 (800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz)
So from a purely hardware perspective, it looks as though it's very possible to do this. I wonder if flashing a Moto G 4G Modem would unlock Band 20....
---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------
Some China mobile. Same chipset:
FDD-LTE BAND 1/3/7/20; TDD-LTE BAND 41
Again.... Band 20.
It's possible, we need to flash a Moto G 4G Modem though.... now, talking about it is easy, but how we do it, without killing our devices, that's where it becomes fun, because I doubt we can just flash the baseband and assume it'll work. That's got lost IMEI written all over it.
Thanks for all your hard work AMD details how to. I'm able to add those band to my Redmi NOTE 4g but unfortunately, nothing works. I believed it's the hardware limitation. My Redmi Note 4g only supports FDD-LTE band 1, 3, 41. I needed band 2, 4 to beable to work with my US network.
Luckyly, I'm fortunate to purchase a HK model of Xiaomi Redmi NOTE 4G. this one ssupported FDD-LTE band 1, 2, 3, 4, 7! I can now use my US tmobile LTE network without any problems!
The questions I have now is:
is there any way to extract the modem that I have in the HK model Xiaomoi Redmi NOTE 4G and make a flashable zip file to flash it in my China Model Redmi NOTE 4G using CWM recovery? I would LOVE to help those people who bought the China model of Redmi NOTE 4G that couldn't use the LTE in the States. Anyone knows how to make a flashable zip with my modem in it?

It's the same phone with the same chip and everything. It's not from a different phone with the same chip I'm talking about in my case…
China model of Redmi NOTE 4G is widely available on the net (FDD-LTE band 1, 3, TD-LTE band 41). And it's the ONLY model that people can buy at the moment. So people who bought that were pretty much stuck with HSPA+.
So. If any XDAer out there know how to transfer my HK model (FDD-LTE band 1, 2, 3, 4, 7) modem or baseband to the China model will be much appreciate! It's almost impossible to purchase the HK if u r not living in HK.

I loved the Mi NOTE! I like the design dual glass and OIS camera. I'm hoping to purchase the Mi NOTE PRO when it come out next month. But having incompatibillties LTE band is the only problem keeping me back. I've been with Xiaomi phone since Mi2s. Now I'm using the HK model Redmi NOTE 4G because it's the ONLY Xiaomi phone right now that is 100% working with US LTE networks.
Xiaomi's 1st Global Mi phone code named "i" will be announce on the 23rd this month in India. Rumors said Xiaomi called this model the "Global Mi Phone" was because of the 4G LTE it supported. So if the Mi NOTE PRO has the same band as the regular Mi NOTE, guess my next Xiaomi phone will be the "i"…
Isn't it a case of Global Rom vs China ROM? The Global ROM flashes the global modem although, I've got a global ROM and i had 1, 3 and 41 myself.

nope. flashing the global rom will not change the modem of the phone. my HK model of Redmi NOTE 4G came with HK version of MIUI V5, then updated to Global version of MIUI 6 and now i'm using the Chinese version developer rom. and my 4G works on all 3 roms.
if that's the case, it might be the LTE antenna were different.....but we needs some expert to confirm this.
I'm not even aware there was a Global version and a HK version
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G LTE band unlock - Tutorial
Thank you very much for this wonderful detailed explaination, @GeorgeZZzz. Unlocking addtitional bands worked like a charm. Sadly as with each of you, there was no success on finding any LTE connection on band 20. I'm curious how bands 2, 4, 7 or 17 will work during my planned summer vacation in the US. Since after reading several of the previous unlock threads I fear it's all antenna related and not so much a snapdragon/software unlock issue. If that's truely the case we won't have any luck.
However during my unlock session in QXDM I had an interesting find:
Only an idea, but maybe the bands are additionally hardcoded into the firmware?
Anyways, it's nice playing around and thanks once again @GeorgeZZzz for making it easier with your "tutorial". :good:

hi
i read some threads here on Xda that some people where able to unlock some LTE bands on smarphones with Qualcom processors.
i want to know if this is possible on Moto Maxx.
here in Europe we need band 7 and 20 to works for LTE and the band 20 it s not suported on MOTO MAXX.
thanks
Nope. Moto Maxx is as band unlocked as your gonna get.
Want crazy LTE flexibility, without an iPhone........
Nexus 6 is your only choice.
wil the moto maxx work on verizon?
So Europe is a no go. What about Verizon here in the US?
Someone would have to try, but it is dangerous and for the more experienced... for the qualcomm devices what I understand is that one can enable the various bands that can be enabled but this doesn't mean they can be used due to hardwares. In most of the cases I've read about, only a few bands on average are able to be enabled (nothing is guarenteed, but some claims of call, sms, etc). It would be interesting to know what bands on the moto maxx are disabled (not advertised and probably not even usable harware-wise, but interesting none the less).
I searched around and read a bit but for others who are curious- these are from various devices fora: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/thread-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269

No, you can't bring a non Verizon phone to Verizon. The only method to do so is illegal and it is against forum rules to discuss it here.

That isn't 100% true.
Nexus 6 anyone? Nothing illegal there.
OK, using this guide and the numbers from the NV calculator, I enabled all the LTE bands I wanted.
In case anyone is wondering this value will "theoretically" enable band 12 and the other ones listed below on the OPO
LTE:Band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21

So, I changed the value and after reboot it kept the new value.
As the Moto Maxx was being tested to be the Nexus 6 as late as mid-August, it has the same capabilities of the Nexus 6 (including Qi wireless charging, which is VERY unusual on a Moto phone). Thus it can also handle T-mobile's LTE band 12 just like the Moto Maxx, not that it matters. It was LTE band 5 (for AT&T) I was more worried about. When this phone with this same FCC ID number went through the FCC it had LTE band 5 enabled, but when sold in Puerto Rico (U.S. territory) with this same FCC ID number, LTE band 5 was no longer present but LTE band 3 was enabled.
Now they are all enabled.
So, yeah, I wouldn't buy a phone without that capability.
But then, I also wouldn't buy a phone where I couldn't unlock the bootloader and root, either.
The above procedure will work on most any Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset phone from a major manufacturer. Most manufacturers use the same hardware across the world, but use software lockdown to only enable certain bands for specific carriers. If you are rooted, you can use available software to unlock those bands.
Here's something similar for the Samsung Galaxy S5:
Enable unlock edit add GSM LTE bands to Samsung Galaxy S5 QualComm

There's 3 tutorials floating around, for Qualcomm Snapdragon. One is more general, the other two focus on the specific phones. They all at first focus on QPST which is 2G and 3G bands. Two of the three tutorials then also mention QXDM for LTE bands. One of the tutorials , which specifically discusses QXDM/LTE, as an addendum has a FILE you first flash in recovery that lets you make changes needed. This is the guide I followed for the latter steps.

LTE Tutorial (yet another addendum for OP)
Here I tried to make a step by step compilation of all you need to unlock LTE bands in OP style.
Introduction:
Since OP, we got bads and goods, all NV write ability are belong to CM, for great justice, dlhxr took off every lock, etc. but since I'm lazy and all, I'm going to stop introduction there.
It will theoretically unlock:
GSM: DCS-1800/P-GSM/E-GSM/GSM-850/Railways-900/PCS-1900
WCDMA: Band I to XI
LTE: Band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21
PS: Even if they're theorically enabled, some band cannot be used because of hardware limitation...
The Guide:
1. Download the rmt_storage patch and put it in your phone storage's root.
2. reboot your phone in recovery mode, install the rmt_storage patch then reboot in system mode aka normal mode. (when phone start, you won't have any signal for a min or two so don't panic)
3. Follow OP's steps from 1 to 9 (we need QPST configuration's server configured and active)
Click to collapse
I'm not going to quote the entire guide, but I used that file from Step 1, flashed in recovery. By the end of the process (many steps), QXDM now shows changed values in the LTE config line. You do need both QXDM and QPST to be installed as you use QPST in earlier steps to connect the phone's modem to your PC.
Only when I got the modem to be recognized, was I able to move forward. This same thread has an addendum for Moto phones, which helped tremendously as a few steps differ from the other brand being discussed.
over in QPST was other 2G/3G bands to unlock (if hardware permits) but my Moto Maxx already has all of that I need.
this is what comes with the phone, already enabled (2G/3G). See list the program showed me.
This this is what was all able to unlock, again if hardware (like antenna) permits.
But once I got to this part, then I saw there were no LTE bands in the list. This is for 2G/3G only. Reading the threads more, I saw I had to go to QXDM for LTE band enabling. But still QPST is needed to bond the phone modem to your PC to edit the values. Up in the QPST part, the modem is assigned to COM port 8. I then had QXDM read COM port 8 for values.
Line 6828 is for LTE. Now look down in "fields", where I hit the READ button.
I changed the value, rebooted, when through all the steps (bonding the modem, etc) and read the value again. It kept the edited value.
______________
COMMENTARY:
Really, all I wanted was to enable band 5 (AT&T) and possibly new band 12 (for T-mobile, for re-sale value in the future).
Any other bands enabled also depends on the antenna(s) in the phone. However, we KNOW this phone (XT1225) had band 5 enabled when it went through the FCC, and Motorola swears it has identical antenna to the Droid Turbo (XT1254).
Since they kept the same FCC ID number it means that when we enable band 5, it will work -- as the hardware (modem and antennas) have remained the same.
Some people have said the new LTE band 12 (for T-mobile) requires a different antenna, and this phone was never FCC tested with LTE band 12 enabled. It's entirely possibly while the band is now "enabled" on my phone, the phone would not receive LTE band 12 due to hardware (antenna) limitations. Same situation with the Europe LTE bands. But LTE band 5 is fine. We KNOW it will work with all the current hardware.
_________
The Nexus 6 (for North America), however, has all these:
LTE bands: 2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/25/26/29/41
So, I may just go back and enable those. I don't need Europe LTE bands. Even for those, for "North America" it would depend on stuff like antenna limitations, if Motorola put an antenna in that could use all those. However, we KNOW it will handle LTE band 5, because it passed through the FCC with it enabled. Then, when launched in Puerto Rico (with same FCC number) LTE band 3 was enabled (which is used in many Latin American countries) and not LTE band 5. This phone is being sold in a handful of Latin America countries (Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil and Chile). So, AFTER FCC testing, Motorola software disabled LTE band 5 and enabled LTE band 3. All I did was re-enable it.
Motorola also made some other post-FCC certification changes. They enabled quad-band GSM. When it went through the FCC, there was only two GSM bands. Again, software changes.
FCC testing (look at the GSM, not the red arrow):
Now being sold:

I'm actually optimistic you can send/receive on LTE band 20, if enabled. I'm just throwing out a cautionary note.
Enabling in software does not overcome hardware (antenna) limitations. However, I do not know what antenna(s) Moto put in this phone. Except it's the same antenna as in the Droid Turbo. If you can receive LTE band 13 (Turbo) and LTE band 17 (Moto Maxx) and LTE band 5 (FCC testing of the Moto Maxx), which are all in similar frequency ranges as band 20, you might can send/receive on band 20 too.
Go look at this chart.
http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php
Just a note. Just because the value sticks after a reboot in qpst doesn't mean the bands are enabled. I tried to do the exact sam thing with band 17 on the droid turbo so it would work on at&t. I followed all the steps and put my Sim card in. I live in an area with band 17 LTE support. After a reboot I still didn't have LTE on band 17 even though I enabled it and the value stuck. The only real way to tell if the bands are unlocked and working is to test them in an area that uses that band after you change the value. Just wanted people to know that I tried this for the turbo and it didn't work. If anyone knows why else mivht make it work I'm open to trying it as I have a turbo and a moto maxx.

I would speculate that you're correct. Neither Mexico or Brazil use band 20 and (like the Nexus 5) Google brought out a US model and RotW model for the final Nexus 6. Assuming the Turbo/Maxx was chosen instead to be the Nexus 6, I believe the same approach would be used.
That won't stop me from trying to unlock 20 when my Maxx arrives though!

Maybe we have same antena like the Nexus 6,but with american limitation for LTE CDMA and Gsm
we need to test it more
we make a big step with @ChazzMatt being able to conect it to the programs and changed the values
i need my Maxx to test it too and see if we are able to unlock it for real.
some users says that they changed and enabled the missing bands, but the phone still not reconigze the LTE 4G and goes to H+.
Question for Chazz
"Only when I got the modem to be recognized, was I able to move forward. This same thread has an addendum for Moto phones, which helped tremendously as a few steps differ from the other brand being discussed."
Chazz I cant seem to find the addendum- can you please point me to the right place? I cannot get my modem recognized...
thanks,

Sure. I can send the link tomorrow, I'm away from computer tonight. But the first post has over 30 steps . The "Moto" addendum, is a few pages into that thread, and replaces steps 7-14, for Motorola phones. Then the guy says do the rest of the steps after that from the first page.

ok- so I believe that I found the MOTO reference, but it was a bit of a bear to get configured none the less. I am not 100% sure how to post a quote from another thread so here goes - http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...m-updating-t2871269/post58081304#post58081304
The most important step is that I had to go to bootloader and do BP Tools on each re-boot. I will write a short add-on if I can find the time. But I believe that I was able to unlock band 12 for t-mo as I am in Minneapolis and band 12 has rolled out here. I have not been able to confirm from my house, but I will as soon as I can...
thank you

Well, I have not been able to receive Band 12 LTE on my Maxx yet. Band 4 is the only one so far. Does anybody know a way to force band 12? I suppose that I could back and turn off band 4 in the software, but it is working pretty well... Ideas?

I programmed it so only band 12 is active and i could NOT get LTE on my MAXX. I am not 100% certain that I have active band 12 in minneapolis where I am, but they announced that it was active here sometime ago. I assume that we must not have the hardware to support band 12 or this software is not able to enable, but it seems that ChazzMatt has confirmed that band 5 is active for ATT. Hopefully, someone can prove me wrong...

I have a question for all the lucky ones of you who have a Mi Mix.
With most of the Xiaomi phones which are released, people are unhappy about the lack of band support for regions outside of China. I know many people in Europe are unhappy about not having Band 20, those of us in Japan would really like to have UMTS Band 6/19 (among others), Australians want LTE Band 28, and people in the US would like Band 12/17.
As you may know, with some phones, it's possible to unlock these bands by putting the phone into diag mode and using Qualcomm tools like QPST. Here in Japan, it was possible to enable the UMTS Bands 6 and 19 on the Mi5 and the Mi Max, but not possible on the Redmi Note 3 or the Mi5S, so it's really case by case.
Seeing as that the Mi Mix is a concept phone people are crazy about all over the world, I am very curious whether it's possible to enable LTE bands and WCMDA bands on the Mi Mix. I don't want to spend the big money to buy one without first having confidence that I can get it to work on my carrier's bands.
So I'd like to start this discussion. Has anyone tried anything? Successes, failures, please post them all!

This (QPST) is something I have no experience with, but, interested in the subject:
I'm good with the band support (for now) as what's available in my area, with my carrier,is supported (Bands 2 &4 on T-Mobile US,no Band 12 or 66 yet),definitely would be nice for at least Band 12,if possible,as I believe my area will get it eventually.
One side note & a positive one at that:
My MiMix locks-in on a signal & has better/stronger connections than any phone I've used to date. This was really noticeable while commuting back & forth to work today, unbelieveable signal quality.
IDK if the ceramic body is better vs other materials, but, recent flagships from HTC/Samsung/LG pale in comparison vs this phone.
i have MI MIX in hand.
I think we need MIX Diag Driver to make it recognize from pc. MI5 Diag drivers are not the same

I've heard the Mi5 diag drivers were usable on the Mi5S, which is the same SD 821, so that's strange. What happens when you put it in diag mode and plug it in? Can I see a screenshot from device manager, or some evidence of what the device is?

this is what I have gathered from various sources (so yes Band 4 is both LTE and 3g)
Tmobile
LTE Frequencies:
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2
Lower 700 MHz band 12
3G/4G Frequencies (WCDMA):
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2
2G Frequencies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE):
1900 MHz PCS band 2
ATT
AT&T 4G HSPA and HSPA+ use 850Mhz(Band 5) and 1900Mhz(Band 2) bands
LTE uses Band 17(700Mhz), Band 5(850Mhz), Band 2(1900Mhz),
Band 4(1700/2100Mhz)
LTE B29 (700)
LTE B30 (2300 WCS)

Yes....was just giving the bands and frequencies I know for two GSM carriers in the US. Monitoring the bands at various locations by something like signal check lite (much easier to use/read than lte discovery IMO) would be only way to tell.. If I recall correctly this device has 3g at 850,900,1800,1900 so there is no band 4 on 3g it seems... Although band 4 (1700/2100) COULD be a 3g band too for some devices. Someone with better knowledge can chime in here. I might be wrong.

Update: I have actually successfully forced band twelve with NV values (I can see it stick and unwind the value to see that band 12 is allowed after a reboot). I followed about 10 diff guides to get my bearing on working with the Qualcomm editors and maintenance programs.
Sad to say: the modem in the Mix simply won't do band 12. I talked with a few folks from the Xiaomi Reddit Discord and they confirmed my suspicions that with Xiaomi (with a few exceptions) it is usually hardware that's keeping you off of a band.
I don't personally think there's any amount of software hackery we can do to get bands unlocked.
Edit: I am quite comfortable in ADB / SU and am happy to try any and all suggestions out on my phone in addition to what I've tried already btw. Please do let me know if there's something you think I may have missed following the various unlock threads.

Sorry to hear that the band could not be tapped into...
yes most likely a hardware thing-like Samsung (some of their models exclusively for Latin america have u.s bands but the 'international' variants of the same models will not do the U.S bands no matter what...
I actually opened one of them (got a damaged T239M) and found indeed that the motherboard is different...(so much speculation and folks asking/trying to flash S. American firmware on like the T705, T239 etc, myself included (not possible anyway even if going through TWRP and flashing modem files etc...bootloader and pit all different..so nothing would change with the other parts of the firmware)
so it is highly likely in this case that the modem will not do bands 12, 17 (ATT) and 29, 30 (ATT). However, it is impressive that for a China phone this will even do bands 2, 4 and 5. Huawei models (again supposedly international) except for some variants of the smaller 5-5.2 inch models (not p9, p8, P8 max, x2, t3, t3 pro, or m3 (some of these are the tablet phone types) and numerous other Chinese phones will not do anything more than 1, 3, 7 and then maybe 8 and 20 or a 28. (all useless for North America). Huawei has an M2 variant that has US bands and also on their smaller phones (certain versions)
so for the Mix, you at least have LTE 2, 4 and 5 (though of lesser importance).

I would love to, it's the first thought I had when both starting a new guide and when I finished getting the phone to look for band 12.
I'm currently _buried_ in a project for work right now (it's taking my nights and a lot of sleep from me ha), so nothing soon. But it's on my list of first contributions I'd like to make to this awesome community!
Would you be able to try Band 20 ?
Thanks

So far my experience is that if the band isn't listed in those spec sheet it isn't there in the hardware (apparently a very Xiaomi thing to do). I'm finding that they rarely software lock you out of the bands, it's usually that their hardware simply doesn't support the band.
Need help figuring this one out. I just got last week while visiting Illinois a P30 Pro L04 that is from Telcel Mexico. Got it from a coworker that lives in Mexico. It is unlocked and I am using in T-mobile ever since. I live in Puerto Rico where Tmobile has Band 4-66-71 for LTE. My previous phone is an Note 9 that I love and still think is better in some ways that the P30 specially in the software side. The cameras in the P30 are spectacular and step way above the Note 9. Long story short my P30 won't connect to band 66, only band 4. It is supposedly supported but it doesn't connect to it. I put my sim card back in the Note 9 and it does connect to band 66 as it used to. So it is definitively the P30 Pro problem. Does anyone know a way to verify what Bands are supported on the phone and see if it Telcel that blocked the band 66. Or maybe the P30 does NOT support band 66 as claimed? Does anyone has a L04 and can connect to band 66? I am new to Huawei phones and don't know what tool are available to verify this things.
I think you might be seeing 66 on your note, but it still really 4. (4 is a sub frequency of 66)
The 66 you're referring to will specify AWS-3. An app like network cell info on the play store should specify - though will likely only work on the Note assuming it's the snapdragon variant.

Do you care to elaborate a little more so I can fully understand. Yes my note 9 is the snapdragon variant from Tmobile. I am using the Network Cell Info Lite App and it does show connections to LTE bands 2, 4, 66 and 71 on the note. depending on the place I am around my apt or outside. The P30 Pro only show connections to LTE bands 2 and 4 connections. I understand that bands 66 and 4 are related as they are the same frequencies , but still band 66 should give me better speeds and better connection as shall be not as congested., more blocks, etc. The Network Cell Info (at least the lite version) does not give me anything about the AWS of the band.
So my questions for you or anyone else are:
Are you saying that band 66 won't show on the P30 Pro even if it is connected to it?
Do you know of an engineering menu to really verify that the phone support band 66?
One of my main interest and one that may help a lot of people is to establish if the phone really support band 66 as claimed for this variant?
and if it does, does Telcel disable that support?
if they did, maybe with a generic firmware modem we can get it back?
Thanks in advance

I do not currently have a P30 Pro, so can't speak definitively. (Sold my L29 and have an L04 on the way) I asked about the snapdragon variant because these devices are generally the only that will properly break out band information for you to look at.
The answer to your question is a bit convoluted due to the fact that band 66 includes band 4. These are the AWS bands - band 2 is PCS, 3 DCS, etc. Some devices may tell you that you're connected to 66, but you are in fact connected to 4. (see here for a better definition: https://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=570 ) If you look closely here, you will see that band 4 and 66 include the same frequencies, but 4 is specific to blocks A-F and 66 includes blocks A-J. Say, you're connected to block C, your phone could be telling you that you're connected to 4 or 66 - both would be correct, its just how the manufacturer has told the software to relay this information.
What you're wanting to validate is that you're connected to the "new/faster" part of band 66, which will be displayed as AWS3 for AT&T. On the RAW tab within network cell information (on your note) it should have the band info and then corresponding block information. If your Note is reading 66 (AWS13) this will probably show as band 4 on your P30 Pro, as it is technically .. band 4. If you are seeing 66 (AWS3) this means you are genuinely connected to the part of 66 you're after. If you see this on your Note and your P30 Pro is still showing band 4, I would suspect that your theory regarding P30 Pro band 66 support is correct. (aka.. not functioning)
Hope this helps.

Yes it helps a ton. I had to buy the full version of the Network Cell info to get the AWS information, not showing the Lite version.
The note 9 is reading band 66 (AWS13) in Tmobile. With the same simcard and location the P30 reads Band 4(AWS1). So I can't really say if the P30 Pro it is not connecting to band 66. I guess will be good if you give me a follow up once you get your P30 Pro L04 and you happen to be in an area with "real" band 66 support.
Thanks because I am sure this info is good for those that has this variant, or those that want to get one especially if its going to factor into their decision.

For sure. I also bought the L04 variant for B66, so I'm hopeful that this band is indeed active. I will let you know what I find out.
Let me know if you run across AWS3 to validate too.
I've had my L04 P30 pro all over Chicago and St Louis the past few days (in areas I know have b66 coverage) and have yet to see the device pickup it up once.
My only thoughts are that the device only activates b66 once properly provisioned by Telus on their networks, or that AT&T will only tell certain devices to grab the band that they know have proper hardware for. (Internal database of devices, etc) I'm genuinely curious if any Tmobile people are able to pickup the band; generally Tmobile is more lax about these requirements.
Either way, b66 isn't supported on AT&T on my particular L04.

At least in different place in Puerto Rico it is the same, only band 4. I shall be in Chicago area also probably in like a month and in Mexico. Will take my note 9 with me to make sure I am in AWS 3 to see if I get band 66. if not then something is right with the phones having band 66 blocked.
Thanks for the update
After no one could answer this question properly,
I found out more info on it myself and find the following information to be 100% accurate. Here's the only way to find out what it is. Tested and proved by asking for pics of manuals in the box from sellers, and asus support.
Triangle box alone doesn't mean anything. If Model number on the bottom of the triangle box matches taiwan( ZS661KS - 6A015TW) or U.S model number (Not released yet) and box says 512gb + 12gb or 16gb ram, it is guaranteed to be version A that has all the bands for global use.
If triangle box is any other model number, there's a 50/50 chance that it will be a or b. Only way to find out is by going to the bands page in the manuals in the box.
If it says tencent and comes in a rectangular box, it is guaranteed to be version b with less bands not recommended to use on U.S carriers.
If it says 865 (not 865 plus) in triangle box which is the strix edition, its guaranteed version b.
Here's a pic of version b bands inside global variant of 512gb 12gb ram rog phone 3. Zs661ks-6a026ww https://ibb.co/3zM1sLm
https://ibb.co/LPT9pS6
Another way of knowing which model comes in both version a and b is by going to the asus website and changing the region. You'll see only taiwan and u.s has version a only models. The other regions come in both a and b versions so again its a 50/50 chance with those.
Good luck purchasing the phone. I went ahead with ordering oneplus 8 pro over the rog 3 for my needs
Seconded. I would also like to know this, since apparently the SKU isn't going to say (mine has the SKU of 6A027WW, which Hong Kong's Asus store's website assures supports US bands, but I'm still a little concerned since mine's also apparently supposed to be a Strix phone when it doesn't even mention Strix on the back).
There needs to be a guide on how to tell which phone is which. Tencent? Elite? Classic? Strix? 8/12/16GB RAM? 128/256/512GB storage? A or B version?
For Tencent, it is easy. There's only square box and it will say Tencent on the box. All Tencent sets are version B.
For ROG Phone 3 (865+), the square box is version B and 6 prism box is version A. For Strix, both square and 6 prism boxes are version B. There is no version A.
How to tell between Strix and ROG Phone 3? See the box label. It will say 865 or 865+.
All Global variants are Version B.
American market version is Version A (more network bands overall)

That's wrong. I emailed asus and they said it should mention the version on the box. Also, the band support is written in the manuals in the box.
There's Version a and b in the global variants for Hong Kong, Singapore, and like 2 other countries. A version a only model is only for u.s which is not released yet, Taiwan and germany. This does not include the tencent or strix models. Those are seperate.

Go to asus website and change the region to Singapore. It should list version a and b. I confirmed it also by asking ebay sellers. There was a specific seller with the Singapore model because I checked up the model number who checked the manuals in the box and sent me a picture confirming it was version b.
I researched everything I said from asus website, confirming with ebay sellers that were in possession of the item and now have shared my results above since no one knew the answers.
In the end, I went with ordering the oneplus 8 pro because it was ip68 rated and could not find any water resistant cases to use on the rog for the gym. Good luck guys.

Asus SG is just plain lazy to modify the spec sheet. They copied and pasted from Asus global spec sheet, changing only the Memory section. Ebay sellers? Likely to be scammer. Asus SG only distribute version A. There are lots of export set floating around 3rd party sellers in Singapore. Asus Singapore model is ZS661KS-6A026WW.

Like I said, the seller sent me pictures of the box and manuals for ZS661KS-6A026WW and the manuals inside showed band support for version b. Well, user manual in the box is the same for all.

Take a look at the US english manual. It is not version A. So does that means USA does not have version A?
So does the ebay seller have a "Version A" set with the full RF bands listed in the user manual?

I'm in Malaysia. Asus Malaysia also seems to carry both Version A and B. But we also get the lower end 8GB Strix model.
I was told that only the Strix version is Version B while the other ROG models (prism box) is version A. However like I said I cannot get a consistent answer for this. The best I can get is that HK Asus site lists my SKU (ZS661KS-6A027WW) as supporting the necessary bands. Seems that whole of Asia gets the WW version.
Is there a way to figure out if the ROG 3 is "version A" or "version B" based on the retail package info, prior to buying the phone?

Well, user manual in the box is the same for all.

Take a look at the US english manual. It is not version A. So does that means USA does not have version A?
So does the ebay seller have a "Version A" set with the full RF bands listed in the user manual?

That's just 1 or 2 models translated in different languages. If you change region on asus website, you should see a couple of different models with different manuals. Just send the seller a message asking for the bands specification in the manuals if you're buying a global variant. If you want to be sure you're getting version a, buy the taiwan or the upcoming u.s model. Both only come in version a.
Hello my model is zs661ks-6a012cn global rom.I would like to know if this is version A or B?Inside the box i found a manual in chinese language but does not refer to network bands.

The CN refer to Tencent set. The seller loaded global ROM. It is version B.

Does it smell like Samsung Note 20 copper vs graphite again?
My local Asus said they do not know and have no info on Version A or B.
If its in triangle box its A version. Its simple guys. Stop overthinking it.

Wrong. Triangle box alone doesn't mean crap. If Model number on triangle box says 512gb + 12gb or 16gb ram and matches taiwan or U.S model number, it is guaranteed to be version A.
If triangle box is any other model number, there's a 50/50 chance that it will be a or b. Only way to find out is by going to the bands page in the manuals in the box.
Proof is a guy sent me manuals inside triangle box of Singapore global variant and bands matched b.
How do we know which model number refers to which country?
Also, aren't all CN (tencent) models same as "Version B" network bands?
