Need to know if the problem is with the phone or provider.
My husband went back to Sprint due to lack of coverage & these service issues.
We still have the same problems. Almost every time he calls me, regardless of where he is, the call does not go through. It rings a few times and then just drops or goes to voicemail, never ringing on my end or showing a missed call. On the 2nd or 3rd try it goes through and I get his call. Now this also happens when I call him. There are also many times when we connect but one of us cannot hear the other.
I am mainly at home, while he travels the U.S. as a truck driver. Tmobile did provide me with some type of signal booster for the house, but it doesn't seem to have really done anything to help with these issues.
We now are paying for 2 plans and for 3 Note 4 phones through Tmobile. This is hurting us both emotionally & financially. My husband hates to call me and our 10 calls a day has become much less & when we talk he is already upset having had to call me 2 or 3 times to get through.
At this point he wants me to join him on Sprint, but we are already paying more than when we left Sprint & we are by no means rich.... The worse thing is We are paying for 3 Note 4 phones that cannot be used with Sprint. I had to downgrade him to a Note 3. Worse I sold our Sprint Note phones when we moved to Tmobile. This is just such a nightmare.
I have to find a way to fix the issue or I will have to go buy another phone & go to Sprint & continue paying for Tmobile until all 3 phones are paid for
I had similar problems, you can try to turn off VoLTE, voice over LTE. What number has your signal transmit booster? How many bars has the receiver booster? How many bars you have without the booster?
Edit: Welcome to XDA!
wow that sucks... ive experienced similar issues. im pretty sure its a service problem. i cant imagine 3 different phones have the same problem but then again im in that exact situation. ( all 3 note 4s have the same issue). try putting you sim in an old phone and see if it clears up. try to isolate the problem to either the phone or service.

Well first it might be ur phone. If ur signal is not strong at home tell Tmobile and u will get a booster for your house. Also have them refresh u on network. On his end if he a truck driver T-Mobile nor any carrier covers all of the USA. You gonna have dead spots while driving thru ghost towns. If he is in major city then he should be good. No phone works every place. I have had them all and while traveling Verizon was the best but my ass bleed paying 400-700 a month for my phones as data was a killer. Now I don't travel as much and Tmobile has been great.

Thanks for replys... it was a defective phone!
I cannot believe after over 6 months with the same problem no one at T Mobile ever suggested it was the phone. in the very beginning they did replace the SIM cards our phones but it did not fix the problem. after giving it a lot of thought I realize that my phone was the common denominator in the problem. I put my sim card in our backup note 4 phone that my husband is obviously no longer using since he went to sprint. All weekend my service was fine. my husband was able to call me and get through and I was able to call him and get through every time. T Mobile is going to send me a replacement. Very happy that it wasn't the service and that I'm not going to have to switch to sprint which would have been a severe financial hardship for us. thank you to those who replied trying to help me with this issue. Much appreciated

Ok, so this might be more of a rant than it is a question, but I am still curious as to see who else here has had to deal with the same thing I have.
Back in December, I finally managed to wiggle out of my AT&T contract so I could swap over to Verizon like I have wanted to for a long time. I really only had two reasons for wanting to do this and that was data caps and very poor service for my area(s). Before I made the switch, I actually borrowed two different cell phones from friends and tried them out around my residence just to see what my service would be like. Knowing that I live basically in isolation (one hour from the nearest large city) I needed to know that I would get decent reception.
Seeing that I was going to get perfect cell reception, I pulled the trigger and signed up with Verizon for four phones. Awesome. Up until three weeks ago, I had nothing but the best service you could ask for. Anytime at home you could make calls, use data and do whatever you wanted/needed to do. Sweet.
Then along comes Spring time and with it came its naughty sibling: thunderstorms. Now, I know all to well from working in telecom that wind, rain, and lightening can do some pretty awesome stuff to our telecom and digital communication services, so when a nice storm rolled through my area, I wasn't totally shocked to notice having no cell service that night when I got home from work. The next morning, the problem was still there. Again, not a shocker and no big deal in my eyes as stuff happens.
The storm in question happened on a Thursday, and by Saturday evening I was getting a little distraught by not having any service at the house. Mainly because I'm also a small business owner and I am always on call with work. As you can imagine, having a reliable cell phone and coverage is very important to me. As most would do, I called Verizon and voiced my concerns and they issued a trouble ticket.
Two days later, they call me back stating that," the issue resolved itself and that I needed to check my service when I got home and call back should I have any other issues" Again, I work in telecom and this line isn't new to me. This excuse is usually used when a company acknowledges that there is an issue but can't seem to find the cause.
When I got home, there was still no service. Let's be clear, I'm not talking about poor service at this point, I'm talking about clearly, no service. Not even a hint of Verizon or U.S. Cellular signal for an entire three mile radius of where I live. Once again, I call Verizon and submit another trouble ticket... Three days later, Verizon calls me and states that they found one of the cell towers in my area that had a missing neighbor ID. Ok, I guess I can understand that causing some issues, so we'll see.
Still no joy. So I made yet my third call to Verizon and was told that they had done everything possible to resolve my issue and that my area is now considered to be a marginal coverage area, so I would have to deal with the issue or pay my ETF and use someone else.
As you can imagine, I complained until I got high enough on the food chain and got someone who is/was willing to look into the issue.
In the grand scheme, I've been getting excuse after excuse from Verizon and now I'm beginning to wonder if I should start looking into getting back with ATT because of this. I'm being told that they will hopefully have someone out to look at the tower within 7-10 business days (as of today)
Thoughts?
File with the FCC. If they HAD service where you live when you signed, and now they don't it CAN BE construed as breach of contract on their part. The FCC may help you with either getting a better response or get you out of your contract with Verizon with no ETF. Just know that it will take a couple of weeks to get resolved through them.

FCC, huh? I know I don't need help getting out of my contract. They blantly offered to let me out of contract on the second phone call. Either I was complaining heavily or they aren't concerned about retaining customers. I really want them to fix the problem and not just cut me loose. It's not that I can't afford to change carriers as I could sell all four of my Droids and have more than enough to go with ATT. I just don't want data caps and Tmobile and Sprint have no coverage in my area. I could hack Sprint enough so that it would work with the Verizon partnership that's in my area, but I really don't want to do that. Although, if Sprint came out here... I would be nice. lol

Well, maybe the FCC could light a fire under Verizon's a$$ and get the tower(s) fixed. Then you might not have to switch....

Maybe. I'll keep that idea on the back burner and see what happens this week. It'll be curious to see what happens when my work has to do something because my work phone is also on Verizon and I'm on call this week. LOL :/

FYI: If you do go the FCC route (I really hope you don't have to though) you will be contacted by Verizon's executive office. Telecoms have no choice but to respond quickly (and most likely in a favorable way for/to you). GL.

Well, as an update, I'm still working with Verizon in an attempt to get this matter solved. I'm starting to wonder if they haven't decomissioned a tower in the area for one reason or another because using some software with work and just knowing the general layout of my area, I can't see a Verizon cell tower for about a seven mile radius which uh, isn't right or it wasn't at one point.
Right now they have me marking my calls when they either drop, have poor call quality or can't connect at all. All I have to do is when this happens, I just dial ***** so that on the record it tells them to go back and look at the call before it. Supposedly, they can go in and look at which tower the phone used, transceiver on the tower and the node on the transceiver.
I still haven't called the FCC as I'm trying to be patient as I can be. My next step is to start turning in trouble tickets from my company's account that has something like 320 different Verizon lines. That's cell phones alone. If you threw in netbooks and air cards, you'd be looking at over 500 devices.. Maybe that would get their attention. I dunno.
When attempting to call outbound, I often receive very annoying busy signal, and then it hangs up. This will happen up to 20 times in a row, regardless of my location. This is an upgrade from my old phone which never had this problem with the same SIM. Called Att with out much help. Any ideas?
How old was the old phone for starters?? Also if the Sim is the same from an Older phone sim technology has changed a little bit over the years so that might also be an issue there. I would go to an AT&T Store and have that checked out. Suprised AT&T didn't think of that although honestly they are not taught to trouble shoot very well I should know used to work apple iPhone tech support and AT&T has Horrible Tech Support. LoL I remember one time I called them and than got transferred back to someone in my own call center.

Mine does the same thing and new sim card. so its the phone
Yea, the Phones is brand new, still have 26 days to return it. But I like it. The SIM is about 2years old. I'm gonna go to the AT&T store today and see what they can do. I'll post after to help anyone with the same problem.
I have been with sprint for 8 years now. Just got the M8 for the new spark network that according to sprints coverage map, I was fully covered in. We'll, that's not the case. Been having a lot of problems, mainly if I drop to 3g, I actually have no data and no phone calls and can't send texts . I have to wait until I'm in an area that I think may have spark, and reboot my phone. Then I get a flood of text messages and voice mails. This has been going on 3 days now. Apparently this is a mass problem that could be a while to fix. I still have ten days to return it and reverse my contract. Sprint is so bad that if I'm somewhere I don't know where I'm at and try to pull up a route on maps, it will fail to pull anything up, or search for a route until it says no connection, even with 4 bars. It's hard for me to leave since I've been with them for 8 years, but I'm really getting tired of it. Would like to know of anyone else is considering this, or may have left Verizon for sprint and why.

I've been with Sprint a while too. Just LTE in my area, works great though. I'll see whenever spark comes to my area. Have you talked to sprint about this problem? Possibly a defective phone or your tower's messed up. Do you have the same issues on CDMA only mode?
Not sure it's possible but I wonder if loading the right PRL might disable Spark. Or there is a way to shut it off in the phone settings.
LTE is still up and down for me so I leave my phone on CDMA 99% of the tie for stability.
Most places that I need speed I have WIFI.
LTE just isn't there yet.
I'm on hairy edge at home and hairy edge at work (both places I don't need it).
Even when I'm in strong LTE areas if you hit a 3G pocket the phone behaves badly.
Have not had it long enough to know if it's better or worse than HTC One M7.
But I switched it to CDMA.
I just loaded PRL 56018. So it roams on VWZ (3G only).

I have had sprint over 10 years now. Only reason I stay is I'm on Sero Premium. The network is absolutely horrible in my area. Dropped calls, week signal, 1X/3G/4G no data. I'm sticking it out for Spark & hoping 800 LTE will fix the coverage issues. The m8 has had better signal and seems to lock on a lot quicker. So far haven't had that many issues with it besides the network still sucking of course. If you don't have a good plan on Sprint I would leave. I think it will get better over time but it's still going to be a while yet. I have had problems since last July.
I left Verizon because of the ridiculous bills I kept getting. Boy is their network amazing. Signal and LTE everywhere.
Got the Sprint HTC one m8. I mean Sprint is just terrible. LTE barely works barely have a signal anywhere. Love the phone but only on WiFi around the City

Same here. I got I think 9 people on my Sprint family plan, we've had Sprint for over 10 years now. I left for Verizon when the galaxy Nexus was relleased. Man, I loved Verizon, but my bill was upwards of $120 per month. Luckily I got to deal where if yo bought 2 or 5 GB plan, they would double it. So i had 10 GB of data at that time. The service was unbelievable, but I hated the price. So after 9 months, I came back to Sprint. Here in Boston, the service is great, but I've also seen a sporadic in and out connectivity.

Well I made the leap. Went from 03mb to 21mb at work.
The past couple of days I have been noticing my texts have been taking longer to send. And I mean much longer. They occasionally stall in a queue. Because this was super annoying and I spent so much time troubleshooting it I thought I'd open this up and let everyone know its not a bug related to 4.4.2 or anything.
I did some digging around with some other customers who have the same problem on T-Mobile and the reports have been plenty. T-Mobile seems to be upgrading service nationally and whatever their doing is causing occasional blackouts.
If its old news I apologize but I didn't see this anywhere. This thread will be closed when the problem has been fixed.
Edit : Things have been reported as fixed and things are running much better on my end. Have yet to see a problem so I'm closing this thread. It may take hours or a day for the changes to roll out to everyone so be patient or call T-Mobile if it hasn't been fixed by tomorrow, 5-10-2014.

I'm getting real tired of T-Mobile. Literally the only reason I left grandfathered unlimited data on Verizon was to get this phone. I regret it every day. I hate this service, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
I checked their coverage maps like a hawk before I signed with them and my whole entire area was covered in "Excellent 4G Coverage" as well as "Excellent Voice coverage". Got the phone November 18th 2013 and didn't see LTE even ONCE at my house or in my neighborhood until February 2014. That was after calling them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Mostly 2-3 times a day. Not to mention all the dropped & spotty calls that I STILL have at home.
This is what you call "excellent" service? Really now... Excellent is supposed to be the best according to their maps. Which, might I add, they changed after I started calling them about my issues. I'd screen shot the maps before they changed them and sent them to customer service Rep after he told me I wasn't in a 4G zone. So I showed him and said that's not what your coverage map said last week when I joined...
Whatever they're doing they better do it quick. So tired of this T-Mobile BS. I love my nexus, but they're ruining it for me. I'd go back to Verizon in a heartbeat if I could get my unlimited data back. No hesitation.

If you are that unhappy, then change carriers.
Edit: Looks like there was a network issue in a few states. http://downdetector.com/status/t-mobile/map/
I understand his frustration. Its not easy just to change carriers anytime you want. Depending on where you live, your budget, the kind of phone you want, etc. T-Mobile is a hit or miss depending on where you live. They're upgrading like a madman though to try to give everyone good coverage. I just can't use Verizon because of 3 reasons.
1. No unlimited data.
2. No Nexus 5?
3. Higher phone bill with no unlimited data.
T-Mobile is generally a pretty good carrier. I've been with them since 1999 and they've gotten better ever since. I suggest you speak to a higher up to see what can be done if you're not happy then. The SMS problem seems to be fixed for the most part I'm no longer having problems. If you do have problems that aren't fixed you should call T-Mobile and ask them to have a look at your line.

AT&T may be your only option using the Nexus 5 reliably in your situation. Sprint and Verizon I have no experience or knowledge of at all. But Sprint until 4.4.3 won't work reliably.

I was wondering if anyone can answer this, besides T-Mobile who told me yes, but not sure how much I trust them.
Long story short, I can no longer connect to the t-mobile network from my work building. I had already tried, but they requested I do a manual search for T-Mobile network and select it to register on. In trying to do so I get an error that it cannot connect. It also shows 3 other networks when I search. AT&T, Verizon and MetroPCS. Those three do indeed get service in this building and people with those phones have no issue. Not surprised to see Metro PCS since it runs on TMOs network.
So here is my question, These networks only show if the phone can find them? So I *should* be able to force my phone to roam on AT&T? TMO said I could(I was roaming on AT&T a few months ago in another state with no TMO service), but it doesn't let me, won't roam but AT&T has an extremely strong signal here, assume because it sees a tmobile signal, but I cannot connect to it.
They are sending me a new phone to try Monday, but I won't work until Friday, so just figured I'd do some curiosity searching.
I will post screen shots later (at work and have to wait to go outside...*sigh*), but the phone also sees a signal at times, shows signal bars, but won't connect to any network. Is really weird.
Also noticed in the TMO store a few days ago when I had my sim replaced, that my note 4 was nearly 10dBm worse signal than their display phones for the Note 4, S6 and S6 Edge which all had pretty identical signal strength. This was both before and after sim replacement. Don't work with celluar as much (do cisco networking) but 10dBm might be enough to cause me problems in a building.
Hoping at this point it is the phone.

We've done that. Doesn't work.
I know Tmobiles service works in this building, because MetroPCS does. No one else here has tmobile, but others do have metropcs which runs on tmobile.
is the stupidest thing. Been 5 weeks of not even being able to make emergency calls at work. Verizon/AT&T/MetroPCS/Sprint/etc. all get signal.
and to note, I was only getting HSPA+, but now my phone refuses to connect to HSPA+ if at all possible. Used to be I'd go outside and it would connect to HSPA+ and eventually switch over to LTE, now it only connects to LTE outside my workplace.
This happened on kitkat and lollipop.
I really think it is a network issue, but they have opened maybe 6 tickets in the 5 weeks and are always told no issue.
I am just trying to further research, I really don't want to have to switch to ATT or Verizon because 40 hours of the week i can't make or receive calls/texts/etc.

Well I am gonna try the new phone, at that point will be a new phone and a new sim card. Rules me out 100%. After that, I will push. What I really need is to talk to a network engineer myself lol.
I am just trying to learn more about how some of this works. I tried google searching and seems there is very little information on any of this.
