[Q] How to start multisim settings from command line - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't found a proper widget that can switch my sim2 on and off in a fast way without passing from settings, so i've installed "Widgetsoid" that can create toggles and widget with a specific command line.
I have found that the process that i want is "com.motorola.multisims" so i opened the Android Manifest from the installation apk and i presume that the activity is ".MSIM_SETTINGS"
So i wrote in the command
"am start -n com.motorola.multisimsettings/.MSIM_SETTINGS"
or
"am start -a com.motorola.multisimsettings/.MSIM_SETTINGS"
but it doesn't work.
Does anyone have an idea on how to make it work?
In attachment there is the apk file if anyone is interessed.

Post this in the Q &A section. This area is for development only. You'll have better luck there in the future.

Google Voice Search

Has anyone tried installing "Google Voice Search"?
I couldn't get it to install on CM6: A009.
Looks like another great Google app.

I believe he is talking about the new voice search released today, I tried to install it from the market, it would download, but it had an error trying to install (using A008)
Yes. Sorry, I am referring to the new App that is available via the Market. Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier.

androidcentral method doesn't work(listed in comments):
1. Uninstall current version w/ Titanium Backup
2. Reboot
3. Install new version from the market.
I still get "installation unsuccessful" after above mentioned method.

frustrating since others with CM6 nightly have it
I've been working on this, here is what I have so far.
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3
Successfully remounts the system partition as read/write
adb shell rm -f /system/app/VoiceSearch.apk
rm: cannot remove '/system/app/VoiceSearch.apk': directory not empty
(however the file is now gone: adb shell ls /system/app)
adb shell pm uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch
Failure
(At this point, Settings->Applications->Manage Applications still shows the Voice Search application as installed, not surprisingly)
adb reboot
Reboot the phone, upon booting back up, the phone is sluggish and slow. An attempt to download the application from the Market fails with the same package signature error.
Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on?

worked like a champ...the new voice search is friggin amazing...
I was able to get the new Voice Search and widget working, but by using the above method the hardware Search button no longer brings up anything. If you long press the button you can choose the Voice Search option, but a regular press doesn't do anything. Anyway to fix it so a regular press goes to the regular search window again?

It's the most recent official update by Google. You can read about it at http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/08/just-speak-it-introducing-voice-actions.html. It's a lot quicker with recognition and they've added a bunch of actions you can do like sending emails or finding directions.

Worked for me as well. Now, in my case the SearchBox was named "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk". As a side note, I also backed up these files before deleting them. This is how you do it, in case you want to:
Code:
**before starting [B]adb shell[/B], at your DOS command prompt:
cd <backup folder on your PC>\
adb pull /system/apps/VoiceSearch.apk
adb pull /system/apps/GoogleSearchBox.apk (or in my case GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk)
that's it. Now you have a backup copy of the original files delivered in your CM rom, in case you want them back for (I see no) reason. I'd assume Cyanogen will fix this in no time, so this is more of a temp thing anyways.

Trying to find a remapping fix to the search button. It happens only on the Launcher (i.e. Maps, browser, etc) are not broken, just the search button on the launcher.

Market apps

I have notice this thing. My friend and I have a captivate. In the market I have some apps that is not seen in his market. I was wondering if this had to do with the market update? Or something like carrier thing for roms...
Both of us are rooted. He is still running the stock rom I'm running darky port 7.2.
P.s. the specific app I was unable to find on my friends captivate was 'Google Korean ime '(its a keyboard)

Since he is rooted, but still on stock ROM, you need to make a change to your settings.db file to allow non market application installation (0 to 1 type of change). Do the following if you have the Android SDK installed:
adb shell
su
cd /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings
sqlite3 settings.db
update secure set value = "1" where name = "install_non_market_apps";
.quit
Then reboot your phone.
If you don't ADB you'll want to either install it or you can try one of a couple of "one-clickers" on the boards. It's been a while since I've done it myself and if I recall correctly I installed the sqlLite add-on in Firefox to change this setting on my phone.
A quick search found the following link here which looks like it'll do the trick, though I've personally never used it. Look around, as there are others, and decide what would be best/easiest for you.
Or flash with CWM

Keep your backup or find app on xda if you want it. Not sure of status exactly but I think the dev just quite supporting it.

Launcher 8 is AWESOME

After trying several launchers (adw, go, Launcher 7 and so on) with different high contrast themes, i decided that Launcher 8 is the one.
I attached some photos to show the results...
But I also have one question: is it possible to add quick WiFi shortcut on desktop ? I know that touching the clock will show the quick connect, but that is bull sh*t, I can only enable/disable. For advanced settings, I have to go in Settings menu. But if is possible, I would like to have that on my screen.
Thanks

install Gscript
https://code.google.com/p/gscript-android/downloads/list
create a shell script containing :
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.wifi.Settings_Wifi_Settings
- Place the script in /sdcard/gscript/
- Load it
Gscript allows you to create a desktop shortcut to the script.
Voila. You have a shortcut to advanced wifi settings on your desktop.
Alternatively you can write a simple apk to run this command (you will get your own custom icon).
You can use my FastMode2.apk as a model.

It might be. If you want to try anyway, copy the PlayStore URL and paste it into here. Then try to sideload/install and see if the NSTG will let you. If not, you need an earlier/compatible version.

Parsing error. That means it's for a higher Android version. Unfortunately none of the postings I could find re:Launcher8 give the version number. The current market version is 3.x
If you follow the link on the PlayStore page to the app website it looks like maybe you can download a version 2.x? Or you can try here and see if one of the older versions will install.
Does anyone know how to get the latest version of WP Launcher (new name for Launcher 8) to NOT show the tiles over the wallpaper?
I'm trying to settle on a launcher for the Nook Glowlight Plus (the October 2015 version). WP Launcher seems to work but the wallpaper/background makes it look terrible.
Ive been looking for a compatible version of launcher 8 but cant find it. I have a nst glowlight. Can anyone share a working link to it?
i found one, that is compatible, pm me if anyone needs it.

I have sqlite app but it does not work it gives code 14 error with i try to open settings.db. From what I see others are saying its because of the stock kernel preventing settings.db from being access by sqlite. I am looking into it i'll let you know if I find out something.

The values are updated correctly.
After I reboot, I cannot see Mobile data toggle. I have also tried just adding MobileData. That too did not work

SQLite Editor works
Thanks. I got 'SQLite Editor' and it worked.
After reboot, I was able to view MobileData in the toggles.
First time when you click the toggle, it brings up the setting page to enable Mobile data.
After that, it behaved as normal toggle.
I had tried below apps - But did not work.
sqlite Database Editor - This never completed loading Application database. Hence did not work
SQLite Debugger - I was able to modify settings.db. When I run the query again after reboot, I could see the modified value.
But toggle was never visible. After installing SQLite Editor, when I ran the query, MobileData was not there.
So I assume, SQLite Debugger never changed settings.db. I had system partition mounted as rw using root explorer.

You remind me of me. You're making it much harder than it is.
If your're getting code 14 error, then you're probably using an older version of sqlite editor, or one of the other sqlites, if I'm not mistaken. And, you're not going to get too many suggestions on where to get apps free from around here.
Now, to bring your phone back, I recommend either using my guide, or the one in the ultra power save thread. But, you only need to flash the AP file in Odin if you don't want to factory reset your phone right away.
I am using the last sqlite editor 2.1.

Sprint Nexus 6 Wifi Tethering *root* UPDATED WORKING

Has anyone got "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" to work? I am able to toggle portable wifi tethering set it up and connect but will pull no data .
UPDATE
Got it to work after installing Sqlite editor from GPS.
Instructions: Open Sqlite editor navigate to data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db > click on Global > add string Setting.db addition of tether_dun_required value 0
Then open root explorer and open build.prop add net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to bottom

doesn't the build.prop trick do the job as well?
For sprint device i did both with successful results.
For Sprint, I only added tether_dun_required, rebooted and it worked. This was after I factory reset, however. It didn't work before that for an unknown reason.

Hey all. Are you guys using the Nexus 6 from the GPS or from Sprint? I got mine from Sprint, rooted and added lines to setting.db and build.prop factory reset and still can't even toggle Portable Wifi without getting Tethering or Hotspot Error....
My next task is to flash the factory rom direct from dev.google
I am unable to Wi-FI tether even after doing both tether_dun_required and the net.tether.noprovisioning in the build.prop. Bought straight from GPS, so not sure what I am doing wrong :/
EDIT:
It was a typo by me, the actual string is "net.tethering.noprovisioning"... "tethering" not "tether" after fixing this, all works well. I'd advise anyone struggling to just give spelling another check.

Hey all,
So I had to edit the two files in a specific order. Here's what worked for me on a Sprint Nexus 6.
- Root device
- add the additional line for build.prop
- factory reset
- check to see if you can toggle WiFi tether/hotspot from settings [if so continue]
- add line value to settings.db
- soft reboot
Hope it works.

Just to share what worked for me. It wasn't working for me initially on a Sprint N6 either, but I really didn't want to factory reset. I was able to just recreate the steps you did but replacing the factory reset with a soft reboot and now it's working.
Since I had already made the changes unsuccessfully, I did have to delete then re-add the entries since it does seem to matter the order they were done.
**edit: welp, Nevermind. It worked a few times but now I'm back to seeing the error saying I may not be subscribed.
**edit #2: I had the letter t in "true" capitalized. Changed it to lower case, reboot and it's been working for two days!
For those that don't want to edit files (but don't mind spending a couple bucks)... I can confirm that "WiFi Tether Router" app is working as well.
Settings for the N6, as provided by the dev:
Interface wlan0
Method 2
Channel 1
Encryption wpa2-psk
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
Verify those, reboot, then open and enable (Root required for it to reset the radio).
*Edit: clarity
From what I could gather from the thread and personal trial and error, this is what worked for me.
1. Unlock
2. Root
3. Download root explorer and sqlite editor
4. Open sqlite editor
4.a - under the files tab navigate to "data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/global"
4.b - click the + symbol to add a new entry
4.c - In name section put "tether_dun_required" all lower case exactly as it appears here.
4.d - In value section put "0" thats the number zero.
4.e - click save and exit program.
5 Open root explorer
5.a - Under the root tab browse to "/system"
5.b - long press on file "build.prop" choose "open in text editor" choose "yes" to remount as read-write and continue
5.c - add this as a new line to the bottom of the file "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" all lower case exactly as it appears here. Just 1 uppercase letter here can make it not work.
5.d - save and exit
6 Reboot
7 Native tethering should work now.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I missed anything. Typed this up on my Nexus 9 tethered from my Nexus 6.
Thanks for this. Worked perfect for me.

This is what i did and worked for me and i only had to edit build.prop using the phone. I'm sure that it will work for everyone else. I'm also wondering if there is a way to edit/add the line we need for build.prop without having to root? something like "build.prop net.tethering.noprovisioning=True" in adb shell and it will add the line for us? hope someone can answer this for me please.
1. Enable developer mode (Go to Settings -> About phone, and click on the build number until the developer mode is enabled).
2. Enable USB debugging under Settings -> Developer options
3. Connect the device with a USB cable to a computer with the Android SDK platform tools installed
4. Start an adb shell: adb shell
5. In the adb shell, run this command: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
Edit the Build.Prop
6. Then open root explorer and open build.prop add net.tethering.noprovisioning=True to bottom
Thanks for the info. It works using Cricket sim
