settings menu - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

i have the att variant of the edge and it has various screens for different settings. ive seen people post over the internet about how much they hate it, but with no way to have the single vertical layout. i assumed all was lost until my manager whips out her 64gb gold s6 with t-mobile and asks me to help her set it up. does anybody know if the settings menu is carrier dependent or if it can be changed? please and thanks...

That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing. I'm on att and have the tabs view that scroll left and right.

As far as I've seen only the att model has tabed settings and it cannot be changed atm

It's like this on my mom's Note 4 edge running lollipop (AT&T)

of course... at&t strikes again. i bought the phone for my wife, but i'll never purchase a phone for myself from at&t again.

I personally love the tabbed layout. It's much easier finding things than scrolling through vertically like on my mom's verizon version.

I'm with bell Canada and also have tabs, was used to alphabetical but oh well

The tabbed layout isn't all that bad. I got used to it very quickly.
I have a AT&T variant and the first tab is "Quick Settings". You can customize this tab to include any option from the other tabs by clicking "More" > "Edit quick settings" at the top right.

Does anyone know how to change to the vertical scrolling on a T-Mobile unlocked phone with at&t service?

Couple Kit Kat transition questions

I received my VZW Moto X in the mail yesterday and played with it most of the day before accepting the Kit Kat OTA.
I can't help but notice the change in the digital clock widget... I really liked the bold hour with the thin minutes... any way to get that back without resorting to another app like HD Widgets?
Also, I'm coming from a GS3 and was able to hide apps from displaying in the app drawer on my old phone, which I can't seem to be able to do on my Moto X... is that a Samsung/Touchwiz feature? I ask because I have a couple paid apps with unlock key apps that I got used to not having to see.
I also notice the lack of Developer Options at the bottom of the Settings menu... is that because I'm on VZW?
These are really just minor annoyances and not major problems, but any help would be appreciated.

to enable developer options..
go into settings, scroll to bottom select About Phone..
Then scroll to the bottom and press the build number repeatedly until the developer countdown finishes. voila! you have developer options.
Sorry, I cannot help you with the other things.

It would be complicated, but you could side load an older APK of deskclockgoogle.apk from a 4.2 ROM and disable the preinstalled version. Some additional tweaks might be required. Alternatively, the Chronus app that's available in the market looks identical and lets you customize a ton more.
Check those unlock key apps to see if they give you a native option to hide the icons from the launcher. Otherwise, you can use a custom launcher like Nova to hide the apps you don't want to see.
I tried Chronus but for some reason I can't add the widget to the home screen, it just doesn't show up on the widget menu. I can add it to my lock screen, just not my home screen. Is it a 4.4 compatibility issue maybe?
Edit: Never mind... For some reason it's available in the widget menu now... Weird.

Hidden features

Since the latest Galaxy S Smartphone from Samsung was announced, launched and released for sale in the International market, the main features on it everyone keeps talking about are the following --> Fingerprint Scanner (Not too Flabbergasting, because it's already on the iPhone 5S), Heart Rate Monitor, Download Booster and Water / Dust Resistant ability. But do you know that there are some other interesting and good-to-know features on the Samsung Galaxy S5 which many of us don't know, even Samsung hardly show those features in their advertisements for the Device. Apart from all the key selling points of the Samsung Galaxy S5 aforementioned above, you might like this list of things which you may not have known the Galaxy S5 was capable of.
1. Galaxy S5 Privacy Mode - You can hide certain documents or pictures that only become accessible with a certain unlock pattern. To hide such documents, just go-to settings, select which file(s) you want protected, and then enter a special unlock pattern or pin code. When you or anyone else unlock your phone, the person won't have access to the file(s) thereby the person won’t be able to see those files unless that special unlock pattern or pin code has been entered correctly.
2. Increased Touch Sensitivity, a Pencil would even write on it -The Galaxy S5's screen is so sensitive to touch that you can use an actual pencil to write on it. Although, no one would want to scratch their screen and simultaneously stain it with lead, but other pencil-like items would of course be useful especially when using Apps like S-Memo on the Galaxy S5. All you need to do is dig into the menu settings and increase the device’s touch sensitivity.
3. Galaxy S5 Kids Mode - Ever since my little Brother dropped my Galaxy S3 on the floor and got its screen damaged, I've stopped giving any of my valuable gadgets to kids but who knows if you're a Mr nice guy who loves giving Kids everything to play with, then your little ones will definitely enjoy your Galaxy S5. All you just have to do is download the Kids mode app and when you do, you can turn your Galaxy S5 into a more child-friendly, cute multimedia device for your little ones. It features a simplified, cute design that is easier for children to navigate, special applications that you can download only for kids, app permissions that you set and you can even set a time limit for how long they can use the phone.
4. Virtual Tour Mode, Shot & More - The Galaxy S5′s camera now allows you to create .gif like images that help you to create a “virtual tour”. You take multiple photos of different areas to combine a type of “tour” to show your friends and family. Pretty cool panoramic stuff. Shot and more just allows you to edit your pictures and add effects immediately after you take them. Although, there are so many Photo App that lets you do this but its still nice to have these features directly on the Galaxy S5 own camera.
5. Tilt to make a playlist - Yes! You heard me right, if you’re listening to a certain type of song (like Jenifer Lopez ft French Montana - I Luh Ya Papi --*winks*--) and then tilt your Galaxy S5 horizontally, it will automatically look for songs that are stored in your phone that are similar to the one you’re listening to. This makes setting the perfect music for the perfect mood an easier endeavor.
6. Access Camera directly on the LockScreen - You can start using the Galaxy S5 camera right from the lock screen by swiping the camera icon to the side. Doing this will take you straight into camera mode, saving you a bit of time to capture that perfect moment before it eludes you. This particular feature is available on some other Smartphones too and it is also on the S5.
7. Check Callers Info while talking on the Phone - You can check the information of a caller while you’re already talking with them on the phone. So any communication you’ve had with them, their email address, or whatever info you have saved on your phone can be displayed at any time without being forced to hang up.
8. Priority Sender - You can set your priority contacts with “Priority Senders”. Those you message most in your messaging app can be set to the top, so that you'll have faster and easier access to the ones you reach out to most.
9. Toolbox a sidebar displaying your Favourite Apps - You can use Toolbox to create a small sidebar that displays your favourite apps when you press and hold the small white icon that hovers across all pages on your home-screen . Samsung Touchwiz users from back in the day will remember this little set up from older Samsung Non-Android touchscreen phones.
10. Galaxy S5 Call Notification Pop-ups - The “Call Notification Pop-ups” feature on the Galaxy S5 is not really a big deal as far as am concerned, just that it lets you receive an in-call pop up while you’re using another application, without having to exit the app.
These are the 10 hidden features that many of us don't pay attention to and also, that weren’t really advertised in Samsung’s promotion of the Galaxy S5. Do you know of other features on the Galaxy S5 that should be on this list ? Are you getting more and more excited to get the Galaxy S5 with this additional list of 10 features hidden in it ? Kindly share your thoughts and contributions.

But it's not new… The two finger status bar works here on Huawei G700 with Android 4.1.2 too. It's not a Kitkat feature.

What about the text delay option? When you send a text message you can put a delay on it and cancel it before they receive it. Great for drunk texting

I don't know this. Thank you so much. This is useful.
By hidden, you must mean right there in plain view...i knew about all these features just by using my phone normally. I would consider a hidden feature the flashlight samsung always put but we cant use for some stupid reason, or developper mode that can be activated by clicking 5 time in build version
hmm learnt a lot
never knew many features from above ...

Beware! If you like location tags on your photos. It won't tag your photos if you use the lockscreen shortcut AND have security enabled on the lockscreen. I actually had to remove the shortcut so I wasn't tempted to use it and loose all the geo tags.
Also if you for some reason (my mother) use the touchwiz easy mode (the alternate launcher) no tags will ever be recorded at all. I understand and can see that the camera itself in this mode is a stripped down version with less settings, they could at least have made it optional via the phone menu or whatever so people who like the photos geo tagged could use the tw easy mode launcher.
thanks
thanks for the info :good: .. I bought one these days
thanks for the info!
i really like feature number 10

CM13 has 000000 on upper left lockscreen

I just got a Nexus 6 a week or two ago and I am loving it. I tried Pure Nexus and liked it. Now I am trying CM13. Everything seems great except for on my lockscreen there are six zeros in the top left that only show up on the lock screen. Never any other time. Attached is a picture of what I am talking about. Is this normal? Glitch? Or is it some function that I have no clue what it is there for?
I tried to add a screenshot but I don't have enough posts yet.
how about a clue for you.. CM ALWAYS has many bugs.
Which is why the OP should go back to Pure Nexus.
Maybe it's the carrier label setting, but it's unable to detect your network provider and just has a bunch of 0s instead.
Try looking under status bar settings in CM, look for carrier label/network label/etc and set it to disabled, show it shows nothing.
Thanks JonesL. It is indeed the carrier label. Couldn't find a way to disable it though. After looking around some more it also shows up as 000000 under the cell signal in the quick pull down menu. Guess I'll switch back to Pure Nexus. I like the interface on Pure Nexus a little better anyways. Might try Screw'd Android and a couple others before I settle back on Pure Nexus.

Noti. Settings and not notification settings in full?

This is bugging me a lot! Remember seeing the full text on first when I got my phone two days back. Did a factory reset and am seeing just noti. Settings.
Tried all settings and options I could think of but no luck!
My phone is the exynos version bought in India.
Running the latest update from Samsung.
WQHD+, default font , screen zoom and font size set to lowest setting.

Actually I see this as a great feature! Pull down the notification settings and for each of those where you see the little down arrow, tap on just that line - and that section opens up. Even easier, just place and hold your finger on one of those sections, and then move your finger downward - you will see that section open up that way, showing all the items in that group. I actually used to have software that would group these messages before the OS started doing it. The only improvement I can think of now is, in settings there should be an option to NOT group notifications for any specific application... Even if you don't like this grouping - then you might end up with 300 items in the notification list... You really want that?

Oh! I think you misunderstood my question. I have no problems with the actual notifications.
The thing that bugs me is the last line below the actual notification shade, where it shows "NOTI. SETTINGS & CLEAR ALL"
I want to know if there is a setting to make it show as full "NOTIFICATION SETTINGS".
Yeah, I know, trivial. But it still bugs me. For I remember seeing it in full the first time and have seen so many videos and screenshots showing it as such or "BLOCK NOTIFICATIONS"
I want to know if it's software specific or region specific or based on on the fly options.

Sudden appearance of extra edge zone that just vibrates when touched

Has anyone had an issue similar to this? I've just had a new edge zone appear right where my right thumb would swipe that just vibrates as if it can't perform whatever action it's supposed to when swiped. I have Edge panels turned off as well as no Edge lighting. I can't get rid of it or figure out what caused it.
Look for One Hand Operation + app and disable it
Finally figured it out, or at least somewhat. I finally got it to trigger whatever it was supposed to, and an app came up. The app looks like some spammy adware that something like GoWeather or an SMS app stealth installed during an update. Once it opened, it didn't tell me what the app was, but had a menu at the top with the following "For You", "Funny", "Entertainment" and "Lifestyle" with a bunch of crap cards and ads displayed. There was a settings button that went into "Bar Settings" and allowed me to disable the tab button on the edge.
Edited to add: It's called "Instant Widget" and attaches itself to apps for install to show ads. In my case it was GoWeather that updated itself and caused the weird tab to show up. Instant widget is not listed in my widgets or apps. I linked it back to GoWeather Ex by googling around for it, and saw that it was saying GoWeather was running when it was. Just wanted to provide information in case it got anyone else.
