Hey XDA,
I've been testing to get the right combination but have found the last working versions of the AOSP E-mail Client w/ Exchange Support.
I haven't made any modifications to it, this is stock from APKMirror, just wanted everyone to have it as it's a great e-mail client for those wanting to separate work from personal on their devices.
It's too bad Big G phased this out, as I am still a sucker for the AOSP look and feel.
Enjoy!
Works great... Thanks! Using it on my Sprint S4 with a GPE rom.
Does the push feature work correctly? I used the one that Gary has put out and push didn't work. I had to set up my email to auto check every 5 minutes. If I tried to use push, I just never got notifications. He said it didn't work right and was not interested in fixing it.
Thanks though, will check this out!
Also can I assume this can not be installed, you have to manually put the APK's in their folders and set permissions?

OK these are not working for me. I just get a force closed on the email app.
Are there any special instructions? Using this on Android L 5.1
Use nine exchange app.. Best exchange email client out there imo
the old aosp email is kinda outdated..no material design..i use cloudmagic
Disabling the new gmail exchange got it going for me.
working great for me

Working great on a Samsung LTE Core Prime. The built-in version just admitted a short signature. Thank you!
No problems installing, and works just fine, except it FC in the background around once per day, at which point it won't push new email until manually relaunched. Anyone find a workaround for this?
I suspect that in Android 6.0+, the Email and/or Exchange Services apps need to be exempted from Doze ("battery optimization") or manually granted System Permissions, but haven't experimented yet.
Btw, Detailed directions: http://www.johnwillis.com/2015/10/nexus-5x-restore-pre-android-60-mail.html
Although I did not experience any of the Package Installer weirdness that John describes.

I am having the same issue. It started after the December security update
Works perfect on CM12.1 on my Galaxy S4 Mini.
Not sure why CM decided to stop releasing with AOSP (actually it's quite obvious $$boxer$$). So thanks for wrapping this up. I can now keep my work email/calendar separate from Gmail again.
Good Job

This is great, thanks a lot .. I am going google free AOSP 7.1 on my nexus 5, this is the only email client where sync works with these exchange services otherwise all apps need Google Play Services which I don't want on my phone.
works great for me , however the font is very tiny small , is there a more recent version for this , please help ? as I really want to keep this app ?
Million thanks for this. Working perfect on my Lenovo A5000 with Ressurection Remix 5.7.4 (based on CM13).
Anyone know why I don't get notifications? I get emails but nothing pops up in my notification bar
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Anyone has any idea about the stock Email app from CM13 custom roms? I tried it and it starts alright, but when I add my hotmail account it doesn't sync at all; all I get is just one email from Outlook that states to use their app for email. Maybe they disabled features in newer Exchange versions...

Hi , I hope someone will be able to help me:
I have a rooted G1 which runs Cyanogen 4.0.2 ROM, before this one 4.0.1.
Everything went fine until yesterday or the day before, when I noticed my calendar wasn't up to date anymore. I connected the G1 to my pc and started 'adb logcat', this is what is logged when trying to sync the calendar:
(note that I have replaced my real email with [email protected] for privacy reasons)
Code:
D/SyncManager( 146): failed sync operation authority: calendar account: [email protected] extr
delay: 0 key: {authority: calendar account: [email protected] extras: [force=true ]} rowId: 1
After some searching I found this problem mentioned before but no concrete solution to this...
I've tried clearing the calendar cache as described here to no avail.
I also tried a complete system wipe but the same problem persisted.
To make sure that it wasn't something at the google server I fired up my HTC magic which is still running stock software, and it synced fine right away.
So this definitely has to do something with my G1, only if anyone could point me in the right direction...
BTW:
Gmail and contacts sync goes just fine!
Thnx in advance!
Cyanogen calendar sync...
Hi all,
Exact same problem here, HTC Magic. I am new to the hacking, rooting, cracking in the android world but installing Cyanogen 4.0.2 was very easy with recovery flasher. ( http://gizmodo.com/5341915/android-hacking-for-the-masses)
I can not speak for any other versions but this version is great except for the sync of Google calendar. This also explained why my battery did not last for a day while is was doing nothing much. Calendar kept syncing without result but was trying all the time.
I hope that Cyanogen can fix this and if he can not or will not that's ok with me. I a happy that there are people who can make things better than they originally were. Good job! However calendar is important to me so perhaps i will switch to another ROM.
@bunster:
Are getting the same error when start 'adb logcat'?
Thanks for mentioning the battery life part, mine had bad battery live to but I failed to make the link to the sync problem, I was on the verge of replacing my battery LOL!
Just upgrade to 4.0.3.1 this morning, problem persisted
@Bunster: Are you using google hosted apps or a regular gmail account?
Because a colleague of mine also has Cyanogen 4.0.2 running on his G1, and his calendar syncs fine, the only difference is that he's using a regular gmail account while I'm using hosted apps account...
I have the same problem.
Previously with JF 1.5 the same calendar of my google account was syncing just fine.
Hope there is a solution soon..

I found something else:

Yeah, nothing good however...
Check this link.
It's an issue that has been file on the GoogleCode page for CyanogenMod ROM.
If look at Steve's (=Cyanogen) post you'll see what i mean:
4.0.4 won't be updated. Any calendar/sync related issues for the next release should
be reported as an Android (Google) bug.

So he's basically saying it's not his fault but a Calendar bug and we have to take it up with Google.
Google off course won't do sh*t about this since it works perfectly on stock ROMs and even other custom ROMs.
As a software developer/tester I can understand that this bug is situated in the Calendar app itself, and since Cyanogen received the C&D letter from Goog he can't/does not want to modify and/or distribute this app.
However, since this only occurs on his ROM, it must be something he did that triggers this bug. So what I'd like to see from Cyanogen, isn't a fix in the calendar app, but rather a workaround in his ROM...
I've read that deleting all recurring events will 'fix' the problem, however that's not an option for me since I use a seperate calendar to store all birthday dates for friends and family in (birthdays being off course yearly recurring events, under normal conditions )
I hope Cyanogen reads this and will provide a fix somehow.
As I said i'm a software developer and I know it's f*ucking frustrating if you have to deal with other people's mess, but I think it's clear we shouldn't expect a fix from Google on this one...
so let's hope only in a cyanogen work... it seems to be the only solution for continue to use this fantastic rom with the calendar sync...

How its possible that some ppl can sync and some not?
Is there any other application which sync the calendar?
Which email program do you use? Do you use the gmail app, the email app, or a separate application?
I personally prefer the look and functionality of the email app, but the quickness of the gmail app and it's push gmail notifications.
anyone else?

Don't use the version that's in the Android Market. It's actually an older version. If you search for it on Google, you can get the code.google.com page with the latest version and then Sideload it onto your phone. I believe the latest is 3.102.
Edit: I stand corrected, it's now 3.105

When i tried K9 a month ago, it was agonizingly slow - attributed to the phone lag by most.
Are you guys seeing the lag, or do you have the lag fix installed? Maybe K9 changed something?
Also, have they added real PUSH/Sync yet for Gmail and Exchange or are they still polling and doing WebDav stuff?
Do you have a link for it or what you actually searched for in google, I can not seem to find it.
thanks!

Unfortunately, it's still not real push yet, but the app itself does seem to be pretty fast now. But I have it poll every 2 hours and that works fine for me.
Edit: They also seem to be churning out lots of bug fixes and releasing the updated version pretty fast. It went from 3105 to 3107 as of 8 hours prior to this edit.
I have tried quite a few as the stock left a lot to be desired. I used Maildroid, while good, it was very slow for me. I tried Seven until I noticed it sent an international mms everytime you added an account and doesn't do HTML emails. Now I'm down to K-9 which I like, just visually unappealing.
I guess its just trial and error until you find features you like.
After reading this thread I downloaded k9 and I do agree its better than maildroid. It gives the notification faster (i have both running right now) and the universal mailbox is icing on the cake. Thanks guys!

I honestly don't love any mail client. I tried K9, but it is terribly ugly and more importantly than that, it doesn't do pinch zoom smoothly at all. The samsung app is very attractive looking, but its slow as hell and doesn't do push for gmail. Ultimately, I am currently sticking with the gmail app. Since no other app does what I want anyway, I figure why not use the fastest one? With push for gmail and faster performance, I'll switch back to the stock samsung app...maybe in a new version? I guess we'll see...

I never knew that, then again, never tried to do it.
And for those who say K9 isn't very visually appealing, if it works, and does what you need when you need it to, then I can't see a reason to complain. You could say the same about a car, if it's your only choice, and it gets you from point A to point B in one piece and on time, you take it.
I dunno man, I bought a mercedes cause I like the comfort, it's stylish, and because I simply won't be caught driving a hyundai. Having said that, I just installed K9 and it's pretty ugly, more like driving a kia I suppose. Uninstalling now. Stock gmail app for me it is!

Lets just go ahead and add Calendar as a direct addition to Contacts. I believe the biggest hurdle was getting the market ported so gmail sync was locked in. Now that permissions seem to work, hopefully these two (contact/calendar) can quickly be sideloaded and installed without a hitch.
Thanks!
Can you either upload or show us where to download the 2.1 contacts/calendar apks?

I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470

I'd considered that, even set up a decompiling environment, but never got around to trying it. Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.

Not sure if there is a native client, but I know Zoiper works for me.
necroing this here, i just purchased two of these for my kids to play pokemon go. They have FI data only sim cards and typically use my PBX to place calls. The native sip functionality seems to be missing in the settings. I'm considering using a custom rom which will likely resolve the issue, but I've heard of issues with custom roms and pokemon go so I was trying to avoid this route.
Any input regarding the native sip functionality or specific roms for this phone that work fine with pokemon go AND have working native sip would be appreciated. if your reply is about using a third party app, i'm well aware that they work and such comments are not helpful. thanks.

It would be listed as Google phone, not dialer , for some reason. It is in the open gapps package. And there are ways to add the needed framework and just the dialer if wanted.

i am pretty certain that the open gapps install script automaticly disables or removes the old version of apps that it installs., so dont think you need to use the de-bloat beforehand.
Now Im gonna try to install the gapps too to see how it goes.

Gapps installed fine. Took awhile to start after. Needed to "optimize" 47 apps.
It has google phone. But I do not know where or how to set up "sip" of "voip" on this dialer (or any for that matter)
EDIT:
google just showed me this. Dont know if it works for sure but , here it is.

I followed the diretions in that link, but I do not have the "sip account" setting available.

Great! thanks for running through this! If you're interested in testing sip functionality, PM me and i'll make you a sip account on my PBX. It's US Nationwide calling and Canada.
I'm assuming arm is the appropriate architecture, being that it's an arm cortex a53. I looked through each edition of gapps and I didnt see anything that included google phone. Should i assume it's simply built into any version of Nano and above?

I re-read my post. It was not clear.
I do not have the menu for sip account. So something is missing from phone app.
It is version 10. XXXX
on my other phone(blu life max) running slim-rom and open gapps. The phone app is version 9.XXXX and it has the sip menu
I will try to find the gapps I installed on that phone and see if it is v9 vs v10 that is the problem of missing menu first.
If I get the sip-menu then I can follow up with trying your pbx if you want.

Still same missing sip menu using older gapps with v9.XXX dialer. Must be some stock rom interference with the settings. If camera is not a problem for you then the cm13 port might be an option. OR . The zen rom port has working camera, and has not had too many reviews. I will try to add gapps to that one and see if it has sip menu.
It's not a huge deal, I'll just run csipsimple for now. The kids use the camera for catching Pokemon...
Offer for sip service if you want to play still stands regardless, just hit me up. I appreciate your help!

the zen-ui rom has finished and it does not have sip-menu. Installed the gapps on it and still missing the menu.
The slim-rom I have on my "life max" is same rom used to port to r1. So my last attempt is to flash that rom and see.
But my port is not fully working. Audio drops out and camera stops working. But if the sip menu (voip) is there, then it is a rom problem. But if the menu is still missing, that tells me it has to be a kernel problem. All the roms have same kernel.
UPDATE:
yes the sip-menu is shown with the slim-rom port.
so this would be the 'native" option.
I have not spent time working on the rom in a while. I was hopeing for community help to finish. But that has not happened.
My current position with the rom is, I beleive the main issue remaining is the audio/ media server stops and rom needs reboot. This server stop is seen in the logcat. But i do not know why yet. And after it stops the camera server becomes unstable, then it stops.
I have seen , but not tried yet. An app in playstore that is meant for addressing the problem of camera server stopping. It is supposd to be able to restart it with out restarting whole phone.
Im planning to keep slim-rom on for few days or more and explore this app as possible work-a-round
Uninstalling the stock phone app and trying to install Google Phone from apkmirror did NOT work. Don't try it; I was only able to restore a working phone app by restoring /system. Maybe something in build.prop is disabling this? I might look around and see if this is a possibility; CSipSimple works perfectly though if people need sip support, as others have said.

I took on trying to fix my lineage and slim ports because of this sip phone question.
I now have a solution for sip phone on stock rom.
It is same solution from before that did not work, I found so reason it did not work. Blu had intentionaly removed the permission to sip and voip.
so if still interested in getting sip without third party apps. Here is a recovery install zip, that adds the google dialer framework, apk, and needed /etc/permissions
there is warning in the gapps install about adding google dialer that is also relivent here. Default phone app must be set to this goole dialer and also recomend disable stock dialer.
Wow, you rock man! Thanks for your efforts on this!!
