Hi Guys,
I'm having a a big problem with my SGS SGH-i897 a few days ago, and after searching here in threads and other webs i haven't find any solution yet.
The problem starts with a rom update, i had Serendipity VII Build II and i decided to upgrade to the new Cyanogen, i used recovery mode for that. After de upgrade everything was just fine. But i really didnt like the Cyanogen rom so i decided to get back to serendipity (used odin to flash). When i flashed back to serendipity rom (VII build III) i used the files (CSC, PDA, PHONE, Reorient_Kernel_1.1) they have on the serendipity web (http://serendipity7.weebly.com/download.html).
Now here starts my problem, after first boot my phone show "Phone not allowed MM#6" and when i check out my IMEI with *#06# shows me this fake one "004999010640000". That's no my IMEI.
I start seaching here in XDA forums for help and i found out that this happends when the phone has and corrupt IMEI, or corrupt /efs/nv_data.bin file. So i did what forums recommended to do.
Here are the steps i already made.
1. I' reflash de modem.bin from original rom on (www.samfirmware.com) didn't work!
2. I' deleted /efs/nv_data.bin and /efs/nv_data.bin.md5 files (according to this guide http://dp.nonoo.hu/fixing-samsung-galaxy-s-network-problems/ phone was be able to reacred then (didn't work)
3. I flashed back to original 2.1 rom "Master Clear" using Odin3 One Click Downloader and Drivers Captivate Only from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 (didn't work)
4. I made a copy of my /efs folder, then delete the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5. After that i change "bak" for "bin" of backup files files .nv_data.bak and .nv_data.bak.md5 according to this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162) that restores the files and IMEI but it didn't work
5. I edited nv_data.bin file with Hex Editor this lines:
00188008|2e|34|00|00|00|00|ff|41|.4....A
00188010|54|54|00|00|00|00|53|47|TT....SG
00188018|48|2d|49|38|39|37|5a|4b|H-I897ZK
00188020|41|41|54|54|00|00|00|00|AATT....
and guest what? it didnt work!!
6. I tried to unlock my phone but i realized it was already unlocked.
I dont know what else to do. im' started using Android a month ago so i dont know so much about the system.
Im hopping you can help me out with this guys, what should i do?
And please post the link of guides or tutorial you suggest me to follow, as i say i'm noob with this.
Thanks!
Forever alone! :/
are you able to get into a download or recovery mode?

Yep i followed that video guide but... it didnt work!
The RIFF Box or SPT Box fixes the fake IMEI problem.
Thanks again.
i think unlocking the phone makes it more difficult to restore.
most of the captivate owners that couldn't restore with hex edit following the written or video guide (deleting nv_data etc.) seemed to be people who had unlocked their device as well.

Well good to know, better later than never.
and yes my phone is unlocked.
My phone's IMEI has been gone for a long time. No ramifications as of yet...
The RIFF BOX won't fix it... . But yes the SPT Box has the capability of doing it.

I faced the similar issue.. see the resolution here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230997
I tried with SPT box, but it somehow didnt work in my case. Then the repair guy tried some "Z3" and voila it was done. IMEI restored and phone started functioning normal.

SO I have the ls995, i posted a while back on other threads of revocering my phone cause i flashed a d955 rom by accident. so anyway after a while of fixing i got it all back to stock, main problem was phone kept saying it was d955 in download mode so wouldnt take tot file, but got that ffigured out. Now after a bit trying to activate mobile data all i get is mobile radio off. theres a red x where the bars are. with sim in even. i triedthat phone info in the hidden testing menu but that says this app does not work on your device. I dont know where to go from there, any help is appreciated thanks
My suggestion is to use LG flash tool with universal dll file and ls995zv3.tot . that will correct the problem. I had the same problem with flashing of d950 on ls995 . Hope ? will help

Thanks for the reply, I however already did that tot restore twice, but you mention a universal DLL file, what would that be? I used the DLL that has ls995 in the name
Universal dll is a file that basically allow you to flash tot even if specific model is used. Lets say you have ls995 and you flash rom for d950 (like I did) so your flex act like d950,but if you try return to stock by flashing tot for ls995 it may not allow you to. It will say its a wrong model. Universal DLL allows lg flushing tool to overlook that and use that tot file. It seems to me that you have a wrong radio ,or something didn't flush quite good. In my opinion return to stock again using universal dll and ls995zv3.tot along as it flashes over 80% it should be good. I had somewhere saved that DLL file, so let me know if you can't find it I can PM it to you. Its called LGUP_8974.dll

yup, baseband is m8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20049.
DOing more reaserach could my efs partition be corrupt? Eventhough it says imei and stuff. I just dont get why the radio is turned of. Like when u got to network, sercie state it just says radio off. Could this be like a permanent hardware thing?
just to put this out there i do have another lg g flex same model and everything if need be
Hardware I don't think so and efs partition should be ok since imei shows correct. Why don't you do a nandroid backup from other flex and restore this one ? See if that helps just uncheck efs.
Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
I would but that one isnt rooted/custom recovery yet. I can still do that, but just before, is it possible for you to send me a twrp backup of your modem? I can try restoring that, see if that helps. I guess i needto be on the latest update as well correct, to use yours? If you could I would greatly appreciate it
I'm on ls995zv9 with bumped twrp so that may not help you but I have saved zv3 and zv7 modems backups . Is that you want? What is your build number?
Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
im on bumped twrp to, meaning from the freedom flex app right? I am on zv6 right now, i can update to zv7 thoough, can u send/post the zv7 one, Thanks so much man i appreciate the time
Ok I will do zv7,but how did you got to zv6? If you just factory restored from ls995zv3.tot ? From your baseband number looks like you are on zv9.Weird

Actually that problem you have is an EFS corrupted partition. I had that same problem. Im sorry if you sent me pm or something and I didnt answer been very busy lately. Will upload a backup today of boot/efs/modem. But make sure you backup your imei before all this cuz mine is bad esn.
Hey sorry for not responding, was at work the whole day yesterday anyway, so I restored @falcon8667 modern twrp backup but that didn't change anything still same baseband and still no radio. Thank you very much though for sending it to me. I even restored the boot backup but that didn't help. Also @Alex_XV6700 I thought it might be the efs through research but oddly my imei ESN and whatnot is fine even checked it on swappas checker thing. The baseband and all are still accurate. I'll send a screen shot when I get home. It just says in service state, radio off. And any app I try to turn it on with force closes. Could I try your efs backup then? I backed mine up. Thanks again for all your guys help
That may sound little stupid but can you turn on and off the airplane mode couple of times and reset the phone ?. Probably will not work but its a quick try. By the way do you have a sim card in there and if yes what carrier?
Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
Yeah i tried that a few times didnt help, tried with the sim in and with it out. I do have a sim in it, its from sprint. The phone does recognize the sim being in there or not
Just do a nandroid backup from other flex and restore this one. It may save you a time. That just a suggestion

Have you tried to ODIN back to stock? I would start there.
Or use Kies to do a recovery. Either should fix the issue.

Did you happen to do a backup in TWRP before this happened? If so restore it as it defaults to save your EFS folder which hopefully will fix your problem. If not, also try doing an Emergency recovery in KIES, some have said that worked as well. Another way that some have said it worked would be to ODIN back to KK and then upgrade to Lollipop. Just some more things to try.

Sent you a PM with a link to look at.
Also try searching this site for EFS as that is where the IMEI is stored.
Anybody willing to help me with my imei ? Please. I would be so grateful. Thanks.

Did you guys try flashing just the modem.bin? Extract modem.bin from stock firmware then flash it via Odin.
Hi,
I am in India and just purchased an unlocked t mobile note 4 yesterday.
I rooted it and installed Maximum Overdrive ROM. Now EMEI is gone and shows null. I did do a backup of efs using Dr. Ketan EFS backup app but somehow the folder got deleted.
Please suggest if there is any way to recover the emei? Please suggest. THANKS
Isn't the IMEI number located under the battery?
it is there... but since its shows null when I check by *#06# phone is not reading the SIM card... says SIM card is not registered
Its an unlocked T mobile phone

I'm not comfortable giving you any advice at this point because you're clearly using this phone in an international unlocked way and any advice I could provide could lead to further damage. You can Google Search "Restore IMEI without EFS Backup" and find guides that will help, but if you decide to follow them that will be on you. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
Thanx for reverting mate... got it fixed... flashed stock kitkat old version and everything is working fine now... :good:

Glad to hear everything is working fine now, if possible make a brand new EFS backup and store it off the phone. I have tried different apps and by default most store the folder in the phone (which doesn't make any sense) so i had to manually export it. I am currently using EFS Manager(IMEI)-Note4 which lets you backup to the SD and cannot recommend it enough.
did that already mate... this time I have copied complete folder as well using root explorer...
cant take chances

OK this is beginning to annoy me greatly. I have the note 3 n900aucueoc1. My boss gave me this phone because it all of the sudden "broke". OK cool, a free phone I thought. Wrong. Not cool.
I figured out the problem has to be a screwed up efs folder because the phone won't read a sims card. The broadband version and imei are "unknown" and the Version is custom. Heres the weird part though. It isn't always custom. Once in a while when it's restarted it will load and it's version Will be official and everything seems to work.
The problem I am having is apperently, this phone cannot be rooted. I have no way to access and edit the efs folder. If it can be rooted please enlighten me because I've tried everything.
Any answers?? Help is GREATLY apprecitated!!
Hello. Your only choice for root would be a downgrade to 4.4.2, Install Towelroot, SuperSU, Safestrap & Busy box. If you want rooted 5.0 you'll need to flash Walter Whites rooted 5.0 OC1 using Safestrap.
OK awesome.. thank you.. I'm guessing the problem is the efs folder then? Now I just need to figure out how to downgrade. I'm sure there's a post on here somewhere about that lol.

In the general section there is a thread called "NC2 Odin files" or something like that... Download those.
Also, you don't need root to edit the efs... Download qpst and qdxm... I can't post a link but just google it
Awesome thank you. I found the downloads but it says it's for the galaxy s3. . Will it still work? Also why does my device switch from custom to official randomly.. like I said sometimes it works, or appears to anyways. Like right now the mode is in custom but everything appears fine.. is this a problem with the efs? Or something else entirely?
EDIT: OK wow I downloaded both of those but have no idea how to use them.. Google here I come. Answers to my other questions much appreciated.. I would think if my efs folder was messed up it would never work but why does it work sometimes and other times I get all unknowns?? Help please.
