[Q] Unable to use MTK Droid Tools!?? - Android One (First-Generation) Cross-Device Genera

I have a canvas a1 with android 5.1 stock rom, build number LMY47O, rooted, unlocked bootloader.. The other day I decided to make a backup of my rom in case my device got bricked or something and I was unable to access recovery..(note: I am not talking about a nandroid backup, I am talking about a mtk droid tools backup...) so I hooked up my device to my pc and started mtk droid tools.. First thing I noticed was that instead of a green box near the device name at lower left corner, it was showing a yellow box, indicating that the program wasn't able to communicate via root shell.. So I clicked the ROOT button(first button on lower right corner), and after some seconds I got a prompt "loss of communication with device. Program will now close".. Also as the program is not able to communicate via root shell, the backup option is greyed out and I am unable to make a backup... My device is properly rooted.. I am able to use apps such as titanium Backup and root checker also shows that it is rooted... Usb debugging is also enabled.. Also adb drivers are also installed(checked with adb devices command)...So I really have no idea why mtk droid tools is unable to gain root access... Plz someone help me out..

Update to the latest version and try to connect in recovery mode.
Sent from my Sparkle V

Umm.. Actually connecting in recovery mode worked.. It showed green box instead of yellow.. But still when I try to make backup, it shows Zero file no space left on device error...

Also even though I have SD card inserted in my device it shows no sd card

Your SD card may have been unmounted. By the way, my nandroid backup using philz was around 3.5 GB, maybe because of the applications I had...so check out for sufficient space.

Actually I have a 8 gig sd card and about 5 gb is free.. So I think what is happening here is that mtk droid tools is trying to save backup to internal memory because it doesn't detect sd card(only 800 MB free on internal).. Does link2sd partition have anything to do with the card not being detected? Also is there any option in mtk droid tools using which I can choose whether or not backup should be saved on phone? And the backup isn't even created on the pc..

The backup is created inside the backups folder inside MTK Droid tools on PC. Also try to remove your SD card and try to make a backup....

Yeah I know backup is created in backups folder.. I saw and the backup is of only 8 kb or something... I tried removing sd card and got same error

OK, even I wasn't able to make a backup using latest mtk droid tools.. Maybe a common problem...

Hello,
I have a problem with mtk droid tool.
The button "process file rom_ from flash tool" is off and is unclickable.
The read back with sp flash tool was ok. But now I can not convert the files in .bin.
Someone can help me, please?
Thank you in advance.

[Q] Rooted X8 SD Card Memory Problem

Before I rooted my X8 my SD memory card had at least 1.3/ 1.4 GB space on it, which I am definatly sure about, but after the root it says that I have no space on it at all.
What gives, any ideas on how to fix it?
Copy all files to PC, format it in fat16 and copy files back.
Probably you have some errors on card.
Thanks! Hope that, that's the case.
It wasn't the case :L Something has taken up all the space... Could it have been the backup that Titanium Backup did? And how do I get rid of it?
The backup that is.
Just browse SD and delete you thing is unnecessary. Just make backup first
I don`t think that TB can make so big backup.
Don't take this the wrong way, but, rooting has nothing to do with the SDCard. Can you tell us exactly what is it you did until you've discovered that you lost the space on the SD?
beacuse, my theory is that after you rooted, you went and tried to install a new ROM, and consequently made a backup of the previous ROM. that's around 200MB, add the ROM you were planning to install plus another backup...
I havent changed the ROM on my phone yet. I havent got the confidence to yet. All I have done is rooted my phone using superoneclick, downloaded and installed titanium backup and apttek app manager, and then did a full backup using TB. After that I then noticed I had no space left on my sd card.
It doesnt matter as such now as I just bought a 4Gb card.
That is strange. Try exploring the card in windows. Might find out what's taking up space.

Did you select "charge phone" when prompted to plug the phone in super one click? You may have mounted the SD card and that might be the problem.
Yes, I did everything the tutorial told me to do :L

CWM RECOVERY This is from Takenover83's post
#4 First download the ClockworkMod Recovery Image here: CWM Recovery Image Download
#5 Upload the image to your external SD card/ Micro SD and change the name of the file to " update.img "
#6 use a file manager like root explorer or ES file manager or whatever and right click the file and chmod 644 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh (This is extremely important it will not work otherwise)
#7 I just simply plugged my SD card into the tablet and it updated automaticaly but if that isnt the case for you go into the stock recovery and Choose the option to update via rkimage from external storage
Use EXT SD card as Internal Memory
#8 You must be rooted.
#9 Download Root Explorer ( only if you dont have it) from playstore(paying ) or use ES File Explorer ( free) from playstore. Then instal it.

Some people like to have nandroid backups after rooting their device and as far as ROMs this device may be low priced but after you do the mem swap with 32gb and having a 1.6ghz dual core your batting 100% maybe people will figure out the financial advantage here
Oh that's true, I'm not a developer or anything near it. But I get what you're saying if I take a nandroid back up, than there's not as much worry about me tinkering either as I could just restore my backup +1 to you.

Nandroid backup or RKImage stock?
May you be much blessed, kind sir!
I don't know what your status is yet on Jan 10th but I have successfully fixed a Sero 7 LT for a friend's daughter using the stock recovery bootloader menu and an RK image. Make sure your Sero is fully charged overnight on the 2 amp adapter that comes with it. You will know it is fully charged because if you unplug it and then plug it back in after 10 seconds, there will be no "charging" symbol that comes up on the screen after about 10 seconds from plugging it in. It will stay dark.

Download Option #1 from Mediafire
Use 7Zip to expand, you'll need at PC card reader adapter for your Micro SDHC and possibly a USB to SDHC reader. For some reason my HP laptop doesn't like to read adapted micros in the normal slot on the laptop, so I used a MediaGear XtraDrive MGXS-200-HC on my Win7x64.
Once 7Zip has expanded the .img file rename it to update.img and then place it on the root of your micro SDHC. I did a quick format with mine beforehand just to be sure there were no other files that were going to interfere.
Do the normal bootloader from your Sero 7 LT: Volume Down & Power until Hisense, then with Android on his back, POWER FIRST and VOLUME UP once.
The option is down about 3/4 of the way "RKimage"
It will be looking for Update on root, which is the only option. Select with Power button and it will tell you it found it and would like to verify. Select OK and then wait. The first time it goes through the file, nothing will happen. It will CRC the file, boot to the spinning circle screen as if it is a bootloop and then the screen will go blank.
Simply press the power button quickly to turn the screen back on and it will tell you it has found the file it needs and are you ready to restore the update.image. Touch yes, and the whole process will start over. This time when Android finishes, it will boot correctly and ask you for your language input as if right from the store!
Good luck!
Who knows if it is working or not?
I followed the steps listed here for using the external memory card as internal memory. Unfortunately, the only thing I can definitively say about it is that it will make ES File Explorer stop working.

I have been using ES FILE EXPLORER ever since I did this and have not had that issue. Weird!
Still can't get it to work
I followed the instructions and tried to use the vfold file you created so I can use my external SD card as internal memory. It still won't work. When I try to move your vfold file to the etc folder, it won't let me, saying that it is a read-only drive. This is very frustrating. I can't imagine what on earth Hisense was thinking when they made the SD card internal. Isn't there a way to just switch the names of the SD card and the external SD card?

Its not his sense its the jellybean os that's makes the card internal. Are you rooted? You have to be rooted for this procedure, then you move the vold file using root explorer or some other program that will allow you to change from read only to write.
I desperately want to install CWM to my Hisense Zero 7 Lite but in your instructions I have NO IDEA what "chmod" means. Once I figure that step out I should be good. Thank you in advance.
That is the permissions you need a file explorer then get the option for the file and choose permissions and change the permission and save it
CWM Help : (
Holy cow it has taken me a week to figure this out and now I feel like a total idiot. I was trying to change the permissions of the file "update.img" which it would not allow me. It never occurred to me in days that "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" WAS the file I needed to change permissions for. I've read that line at least a hundred times, ha ha. Once it clicked that I was trying to alter the wrong file it took me literally 5 seconds to fix the issue and FINALLY install CWM. Thank you for this post and for replying to my question. Awesome. Now I shall go wipe the stupid sweat off my brow.
Question about internal memory
Hey all, thanks to this excellent guide I now have my tablet rooted. Now that I'm rooted I've been using SnapPea to move apps to the SD card, which was my goal all along. But since I'm still new to this, I was wondering if it would be better to follow the part of the guide that says "Use EXT SD card as Internal Memory." Is there any difference between moving apps to SD with SnapPea and making the SD internal memory? It would be nice if it was all one block and I didn't have to choose what went where (plus some apps don't work right if they are on the SD). Thanks!
Cant get my Sero 7 lite to use the sd card as the storage
Hey there, done lots of reading. I got the tablet rooted, (checked with root checker and titanium backup) HOWEVER I cant get Super user to update its binary, it keeps saying fail. I can access the root and move stuff around, but no permission window pops up. I did the vold file and got it transferred into the external SD card, and system and etc folder. Now if I reboot it, it gets stuck on the Smart screen unless I remove the SD card.
The tablet is now reading the internal flash as if it were an external SD card, and not showing a nand flash. I'm quite stuck. I assume its probably a little thing that needs changed but i cant find it anywhere!
16GB Internal SD...with apps?
So I've got my 16GB SD card showing as the internal SD.
Now, I can't install/move apps to the new internal SD storage.
How can I fix this?
Thanks!
First off, I apologize for my noob-ness. but I have no idea what "chmod 644 /" means. How do I initiate the chmod 644? I have managed to root my sero 7 lite, but CWM didn't install.
Also are there any custom roms using a newer version of android available yet? Thanks a lot!

I'm trying to make an external SD card act as internal. For some reason, I get a fail to copy error when trying to copy the vold.fstab file to the etc folder. It says it doesn't have permission. Any ideas? Did the rooting process not take properly?
http://i.imgur.com/ihkaGZi.png
EDIT: I managed to finally make it work, by downloading another superuser app. This one simply called Superuser. I was able to copy to the root folders and change the file permission in the system folder after this through the ES File Explorer app. How do I know that the system is using the external sd card as internal now? In settings it still looks the way it did before.
We do have a kernel source for this tablet.
http://www.hisense-usa.com/support/firmware.asp
Search for Sero 7 LT
With that we could get CM13 and what not ported over. Something tells me given the info @dolorespark mentioned with the Sero 7 Pro kernel source having quite a bit of bad coding that the Sero 7 LT will have the same issues potentially.
Hi guys and gals, I have a Hisense sero 7 le e2371, as far as I can tell it is the same as the lt lite, the difference is it is the Australian version! My question is, how to install twrp, it is rooted, but i cannot install anything via stock recovery, no fastboot mode, no bootloader mode! Any help will be greatly appreciated. PS, it is running kitkat 4.4.2, i ultimately want to upgrade it to lollipop or even marshmallow, one day, lol thanks in advance

Any possible way to restore internal data

Hello guys I need help. I updated my rooted xsp via pcc yesterday to the latest 4.3 but I did not manage to work. It resulted in bootloops. So with no other choice, I just used flashtool for the first time and it worked. However, I lost all my files in internal storage. Cause I thought flashing will only erase phone data's.
Is there anything would you guys can recommend? data recovery software that can scan our internal memory or some other methods cause I really need to recover some files in there. I Google searched for A couple of hours and none of them worked
Thanks in advance!

I don't remember any program right now, but I know that you MUST NOT delete or transfer any file to your internal storage until you recover it.
Try flashing a custom recovery like TWRP that will allow you to mount USB storage. Then try using a program like AVG file recovery or data recovery in Avg boost speed suite. Avoid writing new data to avoid data being over written.

Somehow my phone doesn't see my internal SD card??

I flashed a ROM and it wouldn't boot so I restored my 5.1 ROM with twrp. Now somehow my phone doesn't open the files through file explorer, it sees all the file names, but when I click on them, it says that there empty. The phone recognizes that there is space used in settings and twrp also sees all the files and I even flashed the ROM that worked, but I still can not access files after a reset and new flash. Also when I try to download off chrome, it now says no SD card found as toast message. Is there anyway of making file explorer see the files without rest of sd card, or even a fix with a reset? What about rsd back to stock?

I fixed the issue by going into recovery and selecting fix storage and it worked. It did reset my phone but at least I can use my storage again. My computer wouldn't even see the files. Glad I'm back had me wooried

[Help Request] OS wiped

Dear community,
About a year after i really wanted to root my htc one mini 2, i decided I wanted to factory reset my phone.
So after this year I forgot everything i knew, and managed to wipe the whole OS...
I would really appreciate any hints that might help me to fix my phone again.
Info on where i'm standing with the problem:
1. I tried to find my stock ROM on this site and couldn't because under "firmware" i can only find 2.18.161.2, though mine is 2.18.166.1 - does this matter? It's the vodafone one, and they even have a nandroid backup for my version, but not the stock firmware.
2. I have TWRP installed, and the site tells me i need to have my bootloader locked to flash stock roms. I have no problem relocking or unlocking it, but in the relocked state, i can not access TWRP recovery and use the sideload feature to flash the rom. The phone always goes back to the bootloader screen and the title says " **security warning** ".
3. i would really like to get my phone back as close to it's stock state as possible.
I am kind of afraid of flashing the available stock firmware, as I don't know how to proceed from there without TWRP.
I read a lot about this topic, but i'm kind of loosing it right now...
Can some kind soul lend me their wisdom and help me out?
Would be much appreciated
mfG Montor
Hi,
You can either get put back everything to stock, as in flash stock recovery, relock the bootloader, get the available version from their site but the version number should be higher than the one already installed, however with S-Off you can flash any version.
Or
Leave everything as it is and perform a Nandroid restore.
What file are you getting from the website, is it RUU file, ROM, is it exe or zip ?, RUU will be beneficial to put back to complete stock with proper conditions met ?
WITH CUSTOM RECOVERY YOU CANNOT FLASH STOCK ROM.

I would actually really like to put everything back to stock, because the reason for the root is somewhat gone now.
As already mentioned, I sadly can not find the stock recovery that i need.
I need the Vodafone x.xx.166.x format, and the closest i get would be the Vodafone x.xx.161.x format of the stock recovery.
What happens if i try to flash the available one? Do I brick my phone once again, or does it say something like "recovery version not matching device version" ?
Also, if by any chance the flash is successfull and the stock recovery x.xx.161.x is on my phone, how can i flash the stock firmware without TWRP?
Though I really like the idea of a more or less complete stock phone, I could totally go with the nandroid backup too.
The problem is, I already downloaded the files but as my OS is gone and i didn't turn on usb-debugging, i can not move a single file onto my device. (I assume that's the issue, because my adb push file /sdcard/TWRP/Backups didn't quite work...
Edit: Because you asked, I don't actually know what would be the best solution right now, but the only file fitting my device version is the nandroid backup, but there are RUUs for x.xx.161.x - which, as already mentioned, is the closest i can get to x.xx.166.x

Here's how you can do it without developer option enabled.
- Make sure device is 100% charged, if you don't know how much charge exists, leave the device on charge for about 1-2 hours.
- Find an MMC of 4GB (Hoping your MMC slot is working)
- You will need Serial Number of your device for Nandroid restore, you can get it from the device box with IMEI stickers.
For RUU (zip file)
- Download the available RUU and rename it to 0P8BIMG.zip (I'm assuming its the same a normal HTC One Mini 2)
- Copy the file into the root of the MMC
- Insert MMC into device
- Boot up device and enter boot loader
- As the device enters bootloader it will automatically start flashing, if all conditions are met.
NB: I frankly can't remember if this will work with TWRP installed.
For Nandroid restore.
- THIS STEP NEEDS BE DONE FROM A PC, Extract all files from the Nandroid restore zip, connect the MMC to the PC.
- In the root folder of the MMC create a TWRP folder and inside it create a folder named BACKUPS and inside this create a folder named YOUR DEVICE SERIAL NUMBER (I haven't tested it with a different named folder so I don't know) inside this folder create a folder with the OS version number of your device and inside this folder place all extracted files.
- Put the MMC into the device.
- Enter TWRP and choose restore
- Locate the folder created in the earlier step, the TWRP Backup folder with files extracted in it.
- Let TWRP restore.
- As far as my knowledge goes it should work fine.
I will advise that you do a restore from Nandroid, because you have TWRP working this is the easiest method, to get the phone up and running then you can decide to go for RUU by enabling developer options and more.
I'm using a Nnadroid restore more than 6 months now, no problem whatsoever.
Good Luck

That is exactly where I'm stuck with my nandroid backup.
I just can't seem to find a way to push the folder with all the files onto my sd-card.
I tried with "adb push \myfolder /sdcard/TWRP/Backups/myphonesnumberthingy", but it gives me "Device not found" error.
The device is connected, and with "fastboot devices" it shows in the list.
Did I miss something important here?
All the drivers are installed, and I shouldn't be able to lock and unlock the bootloader if the device wasn't properly connected right?
Edit: Nevermind, it seems I can't read. I will try to put my sd-card out of my phone and connect it to my pc somehow

Use an MMC reader for working your MMC with a PC.
Your device connecting to your PC in the bootloader does not mean your commands will work, ADB works with device switched on, in bootloader its fastboot and NOT ADB.

I plug it in, and it shows me THIS.

Have you extracted files from the Nandroid Backup zip and placed them into TWRP>Backups>Phone Serial Number>OS Version Number folder
Now, in TWRP choose Restore from the main screen, and locate the folder where your files are placed.
When in Restore, make sure you choose Storage: Micro SDCard at the top below Time, Battery and CPU.

Yes i did extract the files in the zip, and placed them in TWRP/BACKUPS/serial/osversion.
But there is no way to locate it or access it.
When i open the file manager in TWRP, i see directories like "boot, cache, data, dev, devlog" etc, and also sdcard and external_sd.
External_sd is empty, and opening sdcard gives me only the directory created by my own nandroid backup, with the path /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/HT533WR02324/2016-07-17--08-52-32.
Edit: Okay now we are getting closer to solving this.
I tried to change TWRP backup from internal storage to micro sdCard - but it shows (0MB) beside it.
Choosing it either way, does nothing. The checkbox internal storage stays checked.
I'm going to restart my phone and see if something changes...
Edit2: Did nothing, unfortunately.
If i remove the card, the box can't be checked.
If i insert it again and tap on it, it stays highlighted for about 4 seconds and then internal storage is still checked :/

Firstly it shouldn't show you 0MB for SDCard, anyway, place the extracted Nandroid files in the /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/HT533WR02324/2016-07-17--08-52-32 folder and then try again, if this folder is accessible then it should work.
MB: YOUR CONSTANT USE OF THE TERM FILE MANAGER IN TWRP IS GIVING ME AN IMPRESSION THAT YOU ARE ACCESSING THE FILE MANAGER IN TWRP WHERE AS YOU HAD TO PRESS THE RESTORE BUTTON FROM THE MAIN SCREEN, THE FILE MANAGER BUTTON IS DIFFERENT ALTOGETHER IN TWRP.

Oh it appears I didn't mention this.
The folder i CAN see, is inside the internal storage under "/sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/HT533WR02324/2016-07-17--08-52-32" - and I can't access the internal storage, i would have pushed the files if that was possible.
No no, I use the backup function to locate my nandroid backup files.
But with the backup function, I couldn't change directories and look for files so I used the file manager to do that.
The file manager doesn't allow me to change to sd card either way, so that doesn't work.
Edit:
The sd-card i have inside my phone right now is 64gb big - is it possible that this is too big to be recognized?
I also have a 32gb one, would that make a difference?

As per spec, this device supports 64GB too but I myself use a 32GB one, so yes you can try that and again you will need to access TWRP restore through the RESTORE button in TWRP main screen and NOT BACKUP button.
What you can do is copy the /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/HT533WR02324/2016-07-17--08-52-32 folder into you SDCard TWRP folder and place the extracted files in this folder and try a restore.

Okay it seems my 32gb one is broken, it's showing up but not as a mass storage.
Well if I could access the sd card with twrp at all, that would really help me - but I can't.
Backup botton and restore button behave the same when choosing the Micro SDcard (0MB).
And with the file manager, accessing the sd card gives me an empty directory...
Edit: Googling this problem tells me I need to format my card, as TWRP doesn't recognize it.
I read FAT32 somewhere, I read exFAT somewhere, what format does TWRP work with?

First can I know if you can see any file/folder in SD when accessing it through Restore in TWRP ?
Format it as exFat, hopefully it should work..
You mentioned its not showing as Mass Storage, what is it showing up as ?

First, through restore I can't navigate to other folders at all.
All I can do there, is tapping on Internal storage and choosing micro SDcard - which doesn't work.
It's like TWRP knows there is a sd card in my phone, but somehow can't access it.
That's why I assume it's due to it's formatting.
Switching folders/directories is only possible with the file manager with the advanced button - but this only shows me two things.
1. External_sd --> shows me an empty directory
2. sdcard --> shows me the folder where TWRP created the backup folder when I did the backup myself. (I assume that's the internal storage because under the restore button, this is the only thing that i shows up)
I read somewhere, that exFAT is only recognized by TWRP if you have a newer version of the recovery installed.
I don't know exactly but the version i'm using is definitely on of the first versions that came out.
Also, I checked my SD-card on my laptop, and apparently it allready is exFAT.
Edit: I was talking about the 32gb card not showing up.
I don't think it really matters, but my description wasn't very accurate.
The SD-card (32gb) is shown as the SD-card like it should, but the PC doesn't show any kind of used/free space bar underneath it.
Also, opening it gives a message like "There is no card connected"

The SDCard not showing free space bars is windows could possibly mean SDCard error.
FAT, FAT32 and exFAT work for Android so yes if you format it in any of these it ought to work. exFAT format is most commonly used in mobile devices in terms of SDCard.
Card disconnecting in Windows, I am guessing your card is having I/O issues, what this means is that if you try and format it and the MMC disconnects during the format process there is a chance it will be permanently damaged.
What you can do is just use Quick Format, this will not check for any errors, however if there is any sector errors in the MMC, flasing through TWRP could cause unexpected problems if that sector is accessed.
Advisably get a working 4GB SDcard to avoid any hiccups.

I have the 64gb one i was always using, and the not working 32gb one.
Both are exFat.
I just wanted to know if it might work formatting the 64gb one
Edit: Concerning formatting, this is the thread I was referring to.

The device supports 64GB and so does TWRP, now concerning your SDCard, yes it would work (as long as its hardware-error free)..
I'm using TWRP version 2.8.5.0 and my SDCard is exFAT and works fine with TWRP..could be that older versions of TWRP might not support exFAT but I personally can't confirm that as which is the older version that you are using.

Update!
I realized, it's probably really the 64gb sd card, that's the issue here.
I took the 4gb one out of my fathers phone - bam.
TWRP recognized it immediately and restore is in progress!!!
Will keep updating!
Edit: IT F*ING WORKED!
Thank you SO much for your help!!!
Is there any way I can give you somethign in return?

Great...:good::good::good:
Frankly I never imagined it could be the 64GB, I was purely under the assumption TWRP would accept 64GB MMC, anyway I lacked that information but now I know.
Nope, its working now is more than enough for me.
