Hey guys,
Trying to help a buddy at work unlock his driod1 - he updated to FFRG22D - now any of the single click root methods do not work..
My phone is a nexus1 and did not have these issues: As I am not a Droid owner / user I am hoping people in the forums here help to get him rooted.
I would like to get him on to ClockWork - so we can flash CM6 on his droid.
Can someone point me to a good guide to rooting this?
Cheers,
hey if he is OTA FRG22D can you please post his build.prop file for me to take a look at, it can be found under /system on phone memory, i am working out a market fix for rooted frg01b users like my self, i wont update until after frg22d is rooted for real but i can spoof the version and fingerprint if i have that file contents
i found what i was looking for after a while, thanks.

Have you had any luck? My buddy had his phone replaced and the new one has this update, but he would like me to root it again for him.
can you not just download the old froyo, put it in the sd as update.zip, flash that then root?
FRG22D hotspot app
I have the OTA FRG22D stock unrooted. In-order to root it, I used the following procedure, from droidforums:
"Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version". After installing the custom recovery:
"MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.sbf", I was then successful installing a wifi hotspot app

The one click root apps do not work with FRG22D. The exploit those apps used was patched with this release.
The FRG01B & FRG22B stock/odex/deodex only work for devices that are already rooted. Meaning that if you do manage to imstall them you will not have root.
You need to do a *sbf* back to 2.1 or2.01.

well, ****. I'm new so I can't post outside links yet, but go to droidforums and search "[HowTo] Root, Deodex, and Theme Droid Froyo 2.2 FRG22D"
worked fine for me, no issues so far.

I'm new to the Droid 1 I came from the Eris and it is easy!!!!
Okay so I did it with out even having internet on my pc or Linux laptop which thank god I finally got internet today!!!! Use the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin method... Super easy I actually downloaded using my D1 transfered file from my phone to Linux laptop and changed the Windows commands to Linux commands and it worked and then I went in to market and flashed Clockwork!!!! Oh and yes I'm on FRG22D the phone came as a replacement for my Eris and it already had this build on it... PM me if you have any questions...
hi all,

It doesn't.
The method that RodNoc_eR just mentioned above just worked for me. Here's the link again: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
for those of you who are doing this the complicated way, THERE IS a ONE-CLICK METHOD, since I cant post links, Google SuperOneClick, download and find instructions, its pretty much as easy as downloading the .zip, extracting it to where ever you want, right click on SuperOneClick application and Run as Administrator, make sure USB debugging is checked, DO NOT mount as USB storage device, click root button on the program, let it do its thing, and wa-la!
You have acheived root! Be sure to download the Custom Recovery of your choice, which is as easy as DLing Rom Manager from the Market and flashing ClockworkMod, I just did this and am now happy I spent time searching and not typing commands into the SDK, super easy and it works for the DROID 1 FRG22d, I just did it.
Enjoy!

I had lots of problems with that too. Download the PDAnet desktop client to your computer, this will install the USB drivers needed. They could probably be installed other ways but that took of the waiting for device issue for me.

Are you blind? UniversalAndroot does not work after 2.2
And anyways, SuperOneClick works great if your drivers are installed correctly...

was a must for me to get this working with WinXP and the Galaxy Fascinate. The PDAnet applicaiton was crucial in getting my PC to recognize the driver. Thanks for the tips all.

I had the same problem and posted my solution in the main SOC thread. Here's what I did:
I used SOC 1.5.1. I had Debugging enabled and turned the phone off. I opened SOC and clicked 'Root.' When the prompt said 'Waiting for Device,' I turned the phone on. SOC did it's thing, and it properly remounted the phone. Everything is good now. I hope this works for you!!!
i have a cliq xt and superoneclick keeps ending with read only, can anyone help?

SuperOneClick issue

I have not been able to find a working link please help!
this worked for me the 1st time, http://nd1razor.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-root-android-234-nexus-one.html
works without unlocking bootloader!
tried the guide from the xda wiki but failed for some unknown reason. try the above link.
I was able to root my Droid 1 with SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse with not problems on the first try.
Version 2.2.1 Build FRG83D
I tried easyroot and z4root and neither worked on my phone

Worked for me too. SuperOneClick then installed Rom Manager from market = good to go

I'll go ahead and post the solution I found when it was stuck at "waiting for device" when trying to root mine. I had not installed the drivers on my PC for my Motorola A855. As soon as I got the drivers installed, it rooted quickly and easily! I hope that helps someone else searching. There are a ton of "waiting for device" complaints in certain threads, and rarely is it recommended to make sure the drivers are installed!
superoneclickv1.5.5
Used today to root stock D1-running 2.2.1 FRG83D. Downloaded PdaNet then ran root. Took like three times turning debugging off and on but finally completed. Thanks
Yeah downloaded z4root then bought easyroot neither worked. Gonna try super one today and see what happens.

what was the process you guys went through?
I installed the drivers for the phone
Turned USB Debugging OFF
Clicked Root
When it says: Waiting for Device, Turn USB Debugging ON
ran RATC
but then it just locks up and doesn't do anything. I went to turn off USB again and then it just loops.
Any ideas?
I just did it exactly how short fuse says to and it worked great. First time actually.

Thanks a lot. Its working for me. My set is Samsung GT I5801 (Upgraded to froyo for GT I5800 and used Superoneclick).
Just an information for other users that I needed one manual restart after applying Superoneclick to get the root access.
Months ago I was rooted but stupidly allowed the OTA update for 2.2.2. Now my phone has been unrooted and recently I have switched to a different OG Droid on the same 2.2.2 frg83g build. Can anyone help me root my device? I have tried using super one click and a version of z4root.
My idea would be to downgrade to 2.2.1 and then root and bounce back to 2.3.5 which I read was out. Only problem with this is finding the right update.zip file and then how I would go about rooting from there.
I would like to re-root to hold me down until my next phone which wil be sometime this fall....droid bionic cough cough.
Is there anyone who could help?
My phone is a Motorola Droid (Verizon) on android 2.2.2 FRG83G build.
P.S. When I used SuperOneClick the program did not respond and would always get stuck on waiting for device. I toggled the usb debugging on and off after several attempts. HELP WOULD BE SO MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!

Universal Androot version 1.6.1 (I believe) failed. It looked like it was going to work and then got to generating root script and went to failed. Z4root would also just click me back to the homescreen. Reason as to why?

In addition to checking USB Debugging, I also checked:

After this, running superoneclick worked.
My buddy, has an OG Droid. It's a 'spare' phone and not activated...its mostly used as a web browsing (wifi) device. Well, I rooted it for him and got him a root-enabled application remover...well, he 'accidentally' removed dialer.apk. He is not sure what version of android he was on, but I assume it was 2.2 (the latest official firmware).
Can someone either a) post a version or dialer.apk or let me know where I can find it so I can walk him through putting that back on the phone by way of adb. Or b) let me know what I can do to help him with this. He told me he did do a hardware reset, but it made no difference, dialer.apk is still missing.
Now I'm not exactly sure he did a true hardware reset/recovery.
Any ideas? suggestions?
Thanks in advance....
Paul

Maybe you have to rename it - it's from an european version of Cynogen Mod 6 - but I suppose it should work if you put it into /system/app directory

Hi, I am the dumb friend that has made a fatal mistake. I was trying to strip my Android of unwanted apps so I could take out my memory card and use it elsewhere. When I was doing this I accidentally deleted dialer. Now when I turn turn on phone a message comes up and tells me dialer is not working and thus I choose force close. Well the problem is this message locks up my phone as its continuously comes back.
I have tried hard reset and this did not work. I also was not paying attention so I did not backup Dialer either
Any and all help is much appreciated for this noob.

If you let me know which sbf you are using, i can extract it for you. btw, is there a dialer.apk in droid? Because the milestone only has Contacts.apk and Phone.apk. I thought dialer.apk was there only in motoblur devices. OG Droid is not one of them.
IF you dont know which rom you are running on your phone, just go to Settings->About Phone, scroll down to the bottom and post a screenshot of your screen.
Update : I just downloaded and unpacked the original Verizon Droid 2.2 sbf from here and i can confirm that there is no dialer.apk in there. Also it is odexed. You are not running the official 2.2 update.

Force Close
I cannot get any further into my droid now. I force close then this message instantly reappears. I downloaded the link you have posted (ty). Now If I might ask, how would I go about reinstalling 2.2 on this droid? I have 0 experience at
this. Do I need a program on my computer to install?

You have the following options.
You can flash the official sbf using rsdlite.
If you have installed clockworkmod recovery, I can make a flashable update for you.
You can use rootexplorer to copy the contacts and phone apps to your system folder.
You can use adb to push the apps to system partition.
Best option is to flash sbf. You can then root your phone using z4root/universal androot or superoneclick root. Then install rom manager and then flash whatever custom rom you want.

Use the attached guide to flash the official 2.2 sbf if your phone is a verizon droid. Follow procedure and please note that all risk that comes with this is yours. If you follow procedure, you shouldn't have any problems.
I'm not to worried about contacts or apps because this is my 'gaming' droid.Even though the Ram(if that is what it is called) is a bit small and can not run every game.Atm I have downloaded rsdlite 4.5.3 and will try to begin to 'flash' this droid. This droid was rooted before if that is any help.
