Over my N7 32 GB sometimes. The N4 is a multitasking powerhouse, absolutely nothing slows it down. I've noticed considerable lag from the N7, especially from Google Now. I still use the N7 like crazy, especially since it has a larger screen, is my game locker, I have tablet talk, etc. But wow, the N4 truly is noticeably faster in every way. I'm getting spoiled rotten by this beast phone.
Anyone else feeling this way? First world problems to the max, I know :silly:
That's because the N4 has more powerful hardware... No really a good comparison.

I realize that, but the point I'm trying to make is that I didn't expect the N4 to be that much considerably faster. The N7 seemed to be perfectly fast (the thing's no slouch, Tegra 3 + 1 GB of RAM), now all of a sudden it feels slow. I thought it'd be like going from a Ferrari to a Lamborghini, both are so fast that the lay person shouldn't notice a difference

Eh your going to brand new CPU tech from a year old CPU and doubling your RAM really not THAT much of a shocker. Just saying.

Actually its the io performance and the ram access speed of the snapdragon that makes the huge difference. That's the key area that the snapdragon s4 and cortex a15 destroy the a9 benchmark wise.

Due a new phone soon, and my two choices are the Galaxy S3 I9305 Quad core with 2GB Ram and the new HTC One x + (overclocked processor).
Which do you thinks the better choice out the two. I don't plan on usuing 4G on the S3, but the extra GB of RAM sounds sweet for multi-tasking etc.
Main concern is oevrall performance in daily usage, don't plan on rooting straight away.
Help me out :good:
Thanks
Also wondering this. Or is the Nexus 4 the better choice?
Definitely the Samsung. I had a HTC Sensation before and was really disappointed at first, then frustrated later on. Mind you this was the flagship device from last year..
Sammy has better features, also the Galaxy is an very very good device overall. But apart from that, for the love of god, get a phone with 2gb Ram. You're gonna regret picking on with only 1gb. I had the 1gb version of the S3 and swapped it for the 2GB Lte version. It makes all the difference, trust me. No more closin of games or reloading browser after cheking mails and FB because of low memory.
That alone would be reason to not buy the One X+
Sure, the nexus is actually the even better coice. Very powerfull hardware, especially the new CPU. But only 16GB without SdCard slot? No thank you.
though I don't like sammy rom, its 2GB ram outweighs the sense which I love a lot.
lol, yesterday sammy released info in regard to the Galaxy S5 Plus, and they called it "worlds fastest smartphone".
see http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/10/21/new-samsung-galaxy-s5-plus/
inside is an downclocked 805 (2,5GHz instead of the 2,65 of Note4) and "only" 2GB of ram, so the device is for sure not faster as the note4 (perhaps more fps because of lower resolution though)!!
and it's only the fastest smartphone because note4 is considered a phablet, lol
Uhm no sorry it will be faster. It has the same CPU with the tiniest down clock yet has WAY less pixels to process. The QHD demands substantially more than 1080p. Also the added S-pen software takes up a lot of ram and resources which is why the note 3 and 4 need extra gig
what about resource hog touchwiz which can bog any processor down
Knowing Samsung it's purchase semantics. S5plus is a phone. Note is a phablet.

have you both read my OP?
i wrote that s5+ will probably have more FPS because of resolution, and i wrote that note4 is a phablet...
anyway, note4 is definitely faster in terms of processing power and so on, regardless of resolution or spen!
so it's pure marketing, as eddhard wrote!
btw.: a korean s5 variant has also QHD (which the s5plus has not, as butthurtlocker stated) and 3gig of ram,
but without spen...
I don't disregard your post I just missed the last two lines. My apologies.
I personally think the s5 plus will be faster over the note 4 due to the reasons I stated which i think are legit . The QHD s5 in Korea is Definitely not in the note 4 beasty league. But regardless the note 4 is and will be Samsung alpha wolf till the note 5 (maybe the s6). It's def the better phone over the s5 plus

Regarding the need for extra ram for s note, I wonder what effect the extra ram has on user interaction... curious if a phone, like nexus 6, would see any noticeable loss in performance if it had 2gb of ram rather than 3?

I really dont think on a Nexus that 3GB Ram is needed. The extra gig is needed for the enourmous software feature st of the note 4, it has a lot of added functinality sure but at the price of requiring resources. Nexus phones are stock, so lack the resource hogging feature set of Touchwiz or LG's UI for example. Also remember hearing Kit Kat was supposed to be even less of a rescource hog than JB so that older devices could run it efficiently. I wont if Lolliop has further increased this?
2GB RAM
No S Pen
Tiny 5.1inch display
No OIS Camera
Same 2800mAh batt
Same plastic design
Pffft, they can keep their S5 Plus, still inferior to the Note 4 beast

With these more powerful variatons of Galaxy S5, what are the chances do you think the Note 4 will get more powerful version down the line, say, in 6 months time? Maybe slim chance since Snapdragon 810 still won't be available even in 6 months time. Think I'll wait it out.

There are no "prime versions" of the Note series.
This is not Sony

Hey!
So, it's been a while since I've been active here or with Android for that matter. My old phone finally gave up after four years of constant (ab)use. Am looking to pick up a new phone and since I've lost touch a bit, some pointers would help. Here's what I'd like to see,
ARM CPU. No Intel x86 devices.
~200$ unlocked. Lower the better.
2-3GB RAM. 4GB would be great but minimum 2GB.
Active custom ROM development. More the merrier.
4G LTE.
High DPI. Don't mind a small screen size though (even 4 inches).
Branded. No fakes/unbranded Chinese. Chinese brands like Xiomi are okay.
What I am asking for can be stretching a bit but it is not unrealistic. I do not understand the justification behind octa-core phones with only 1GB RAM. I would prefer more RAM than more CPU. I am currently looking at Moto G and LG Flex 2 Int'l version but they don't quite cut it.
So, what do you guys think?
Hey guys quick question. Can you post some benchmarks of the 512gb version and the 128gb version? I curious if there is any performance gain with the 2 extra go of memory. There isn’t anything like that on YouTube. I appreciate it.
Both phones will be fast as hell. The extra 2 gig ram means that you can essentially have more apps open at the same time and I have noticed a slightly zippier performance compared to my 6gb s9 plus

Thanks for replying Mikey. Both of those phones the S9+ and Note 9 have the same cpu, correct?
Correct. You would hard tell the difference. The s9 can be found as an A Grade refurb online for less than £500 here in the UK if you hunt about. That's over half the price of the N9 for essentially the same real world performance...

That was one of Zeedomax's arguments from his YouTube channel High on Android. He was basically saying the SD845 has been out since the S9 introduction and technically Samsung shouldn't be selling the note9 as much as it is, since the chips are now 6 plus months old and cheaper to buy.

Well there's no s-pen, which is why you buy a Note, so... Not the same performance to me. I get what you're trying to say, but I cannot comprehend why anyone would go for the Note9 without wanting a stylus.

It's $159 over S9+ for: double storage, larger battery, stylus with Bluetooth, a screen capable of understanding 4096 pressure sensitivity levels, and a slightly better, brighter screen at that. How is that $159 jump not justified? I don't get it. That's a ton of extra stuff. Just because people don't use the stylus and special screen, doesn't mean they aren't costs. And larger battery and double storage alone is "worth that" for many.
yes even the 6GB Note 9 version is faster than the 6GB S9 plus version.
Picking up my 128 today from Best Buy. Seems like almost everyone is buying the 512 even if it’s not needed. I don’t really think there’s a huge difference between 6 or 8gb of ram for daily usage.

Essentially no there is not a major real world difference. However there are probably power users on here where the extra ram and the 512 would be useful

One word Merica. The place where bigger numbers equals more sales. Example Mercedes Benz, 500sel , yet here it was one labeled a 550 sel or something . Perception of the market.
