AEL Kernel - Samsung Gear VR

Would anybody like to share their Kernel optimizations? Trying to keep good performance without as much overheating. Any ideas? I use Synapse.

I would like to know this as well

Underclocking for Battery Life?

I was thinking about doin this but I have NO idea what would be a good/safe amount to undervolt/underclock. The main reason i want to do this is to get some more juice outta my battery but I'm not sure what a good amount is. Is there a way to keep performance and overall "snappiness" of the phone about the same and still get a good gain of battery life? Also is there anyway i can damage my phone by doing this? Sorry if these are stupid questions but i wanna be safe
I'm on CM 6 RC if that makes any difference. Thanks
Anyone? Using SetCPU btw
I used an 800mV kernel for a while and had SetCPU @ 806mhz -- battery life was insane.
SetCPU doesn't make a difference in battery life, it can only shorten it. The kernal already has the best settings for CPU speed built in.
The main function of SetCPU is to overclock.

Ah did not know that thank you
So with that in mind, is there any kernel you would recommend? Or am i just better off with what's already installed
Stock (cyan's) works fine for me. Try them and find out which works best for you.
Thankfully people stopped releasing their own kernals in masses... but they were replaced by winzip roms...

Should i run an overclocked kernel or a standard one ?

I just had a long time doubt and wanted to get a clear picture, is over-clocking harmful to the device ?
Or is it just the rated capacity of the processor that is utilized while over-clocking ? I also tried an OC version of notecore before which was slower than the STD version and hence from then on i never looked for over-clocking. But now with notecore OC becoming the standard release i would like to know about the options. thanks in advance.

What rom are you on? You definitely can handle the oc notecore, because you can ran it in your device. I think the oc slow your device compared to standard because of some of init d scripts that humpers the full potential of oc. But if you say im in cleanote rom then i dont know why, only g. lewarne can diagnose it.

You may find that your Note would reboot itself randomly! It may even not be able to complete Quadrant test when you flash oc Notecore kernel for example. The CPU temperature goes over 65c. That is whay happened to mine. So, I just flashed back to the standard version. Everything is then fine.
My Note has got VoltGroup B.
No need of a overclocked kernel..a, standard kernel is fine
It realldy depends on how you will use your sgnote. I for one uses it only for internet browsing, some games and alot of sms and calls so I prefer the Standard Notecore but if you want to get more kick out of your device then you can use the OC one. But as all OC on a device may or will drain the battery alot faster.
Agreed. I use the note for just calls, text and email. So I think I'll stay with standard one. Thank you all.

To overclock or not
That depends: Like yourself, I also use the Notecore kernel. If the Note is a secondary phone and you dont actually depend on it for your day to dayaffairs, then there probably wouldn't be any harm using the overclocked version. Now , keep in mind that when you do, you are more likely to see the phone freeze up once in a while, and thus, you'll have to reboot. I once loaded the OC version of Notecore on my Note and i got very empressive results on the Quadrant benchmark app.
On the other hand; if you are like me in that you are heavily dependant on your Note for a lot of day to day stuff and having your note freeze up in the middle of a very important business call or while your using the gps to find somewhere is totally unacceptable; then I would reccomend the standard speed. For my purpose, I find that the standard Notecore kernel is considerabely fast in of itself. If i have to choose between speed and stability, I'll choose stability every time.
I've tried a number of different kernels and every one of them has made my phone freeze up....except the Notecore. The Notecore is the only custom kernel that I've never seen my Note hang on.
My two cents worth...
I keep switching between Notecore and speedmod from time to time. But I keep coming back to Notecore always when there is an update.

Gavin announced the launch of Notecore V13 for tonight (GMT)...changelog (on page 511) sounds very interesting!
Also Franco is gonna come back with a beastly kernel soon.

I do not feel any differences with an oc kernel, maybe it's just me. btw Goku's kernel worth the try

Favorite Kernel

Just a little survey; what's your favorite kernel and WHY?
I'll start first. I'm constantly swapping between Franco and Matr1x.
- I like franco as it's probably the most polished kernel that suits my needs of performance, simplicity and good battery life.
- Matr1x does everything I want even better than Franco except even on the latest version (9.5) the lock screen animation still stutters...making me go back to franco cause of my OCD.

Matrix cause it gives good battery performance
i use faux and faux123 app, with performance and stability its tits

[Q] How can i compare kernels?

Hello,
So im willing to try some kernels for my Nexus to see whats the best for my needs.
I want to compare the stock kernel to the leankernel, franco kernel and the ElementalX kernel.
Comperasion criterias:
1. Faster booting
2. Fastest performence as possible without hurting battery life in comparison to the stock kernel.
3. Better battery life as possible without hurting performence in comparison to the stock kernel.
So how can i compare those kernels? should i just flash each kernel and use AnTuTu Benchmark and Better Battery Stats on each one of them?
Choosing the best kernel for me is to give a try for each one and see for myslef - i know that. But i want to see the stats in front of me to reasure im picking the best one and also beacuse iv'e used the chroma and euphoria roms which use leankernel and franco kernel but im not sure the difference is noticeable by eye.
Also, feel free to share your current kernel and opinion about it

1. Stop watch
2 & 3: Not really possible. To give to performance, takes from battery and vice versa. You give 1 to performance, you take 1 from battery. There are no magic settings that allow you to give 1 to performance and only take 0.5 from battery.
I hope the attached image helps to explain that
There are also other things to factor like the governor, scheduling, hot plug support , etc.
For example elementalX has its own Governor and I'm not sure it will even default itself to be used. You will need some type of kernel configuration tool to enable it .
There is also how YOU are using your phone. Just too many variables to consider

Yeah for sure.
I always say that because kernel x performs more than kernel y out-of-the-box, it doesn't mean you can't set kernel y up to perform like x... It's just a trade off whichever way you go.
My personal advice is find a kernel that has the features you want, then configure the governor with the bias you want to see. I always go for Elementalx. @flar2 sets the best balance of battery and performance in my opinion, though I always alter my settings to suit my needs anyway

Best custom kernel

( this post is not only for me, it's for all the people who are looking for a good custom kernel but are indecided on it).
I know there are a lot of custom kernel for Op3T... I want to know which are the best kernel for battery and stability. So please can everyone that are using a custom kernel leave a feedback on what custom kernel are using and what is the time on screen with it? (Maybe also the rom in use)
Thanks everyone
Blu_spark all the way and his TWRP.

There is no such thing. Battery life and stability vary drastically from one user to another depending on settings, apps, how you use your phone, local cell reception, etc.. Lots of variables determine battery and stability, and kernel is just one small part of that. You're expecting folks to just give you a "silver bullet" response, one kernel that will solve all your problems. It simply doesn't work that way.
Stock kernel of Freedom OS and made own profiles with Kernel Adiutor. Tried many custom kernels, but this looks best combination for ME.
For battery profile just drop about 50% CPUs and GPU max clocks.
