[Q] Need some help with rooting my desire 500 - HTC Desire 500

Hello guys,
Even though I am a member of this site for a few years, this is my second post.
Recently, I decided to root my HTC Desire 500. I am a newbie in this topic, ( even though I rooted 2-3 devices, but they were old, so I just used SuperOneClick or Z4Root) so I tried to google it, and found some pretty good guides, but I always faced problems. One guide what I was following is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-500/general/how-to-root-install-cwm-twrp-install-t2804938
So first, I tried to unlock the bootloader. I headed to this site: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter and followed the instructions. I installed the HTC sync as well. I turned off my phone, and launched the bootloader mode. The HTC sync popped up, and scanned my music, but in the left corner I saw a sign: No phone connected...
That was prety worrying for me, but after that, the Windows told me that it can't recognise the connected device. I continued anyway, downloaded the fastboot binary, but I got another error when I tried to run the "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" command, something like: the program can't launch because the AdbWinApi.dll is missing, then it just stopped working. I quickly grabbed the dll from the internet, and ran the command again, but I got another error message: <waiting for device>, and now I don't know how to continue. I tried plugging my phone in when it was turned on, and now everything recognised it, so somehow when it's turned off, the Windows can't identify it. USB debugging is turned on, and fastboot is turned off in the phone's settings. Some more info, that can be helpful: this is what I see in bootloader mode:
Code:
****LOCKED****
Z4U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.01.001
RADIO-14.08.36Q4.26
OS-1.10.401.3
eMMC-boot
Aug 1 2013,15:50:50.0
It's a single SIM version.
Maybe the android SDK is missing, as I later noticed, so I headed to this site: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html , and clicked on "Installing the SDK", but now I don't know which one should I install: http://i.gyazo.com/5aaf558bfceea91b15963ebaa2351368.png or maybe I have to download something from here? http://i.gyazo.com/221bab07354c3f60675cd3e492d15e65.png I have no idea...
As I told before, I am a beginner, so please be detailed when replying, and I am sorry for wasting your time guys if it's that easy, but I was unable to find the solution... I also have several other questions in this topic after solving the problem, so please stay in touch with me. Any help would be really appreciated.

even i faced the same prob...waiting to see if someone replies..
update: Hey bro, are you trying in windows 8 or 8.1? I was trying on the same. But now I tried with Windows 7 and it is successful. The issue here is when the phone is in fastboot mode windows 8 is unable to recognise the device. In windows 7 it does. try this,

Okay, so heres my problem. I got this phone from a friend that he had rooted and had worked, and he wound up reseting it and such before handing it over too me. Im no noob on the rooting and even on installing custom roms.
The phone does not recongnize on my computer in hboot.
Now ive done my research and i know its not supported in windows 8 for the drivers, and the only other computer i have would be a windows xp (which gave the same results)
Anyways, my friend no longer has the computer he used to root the phone, and im stuck with no wifi and no service(was just going to use it as a game tablet like phone. which i was using with my samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket before that died.)
I do have drivers installed, ive tried multiple ways to try and create the adb stuff so i can do this but it always gets stuck on waiting for devices.
So i guess what im asking is, am i SOL or is there a work around on windows 8 to get this up and working. im willing to try any and every suggestion, even if it means i have to go and get a "copy" of windows 7 or if there is a way to get it to work on win xp that would be even better.

See thats my problem though, i cant even bring up adb to recongnize the phone. I have the unlocked status on the hboot page, but i cant simply make my computer recongnize the phone when its in hboot mode. Ive tried every single forum that search will bring up about fixing the issue, and most have simply put that its not supported by windows 8 (at sometime during the post, not in initial posts) My main problem is, i use the phone without a connection to a cellular tower, only through wifi, but without being able to boot img file of what ever rom i put on, the wifi wont work.
I cant restore to stock via the same problem being, the hboot or fastboot part, will not recognize on my windows 8 computer.

At this point I'd look into Linux...
I don't know if they have it yet... but wubi makes life pretty easy on past windows incarnations...

I have a better solution for you (IMO)
Download ubuntu .iso from the ubuntu website.
burn the .iso to a disk.
set your machine to boot from cd before booting from HDD (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130425190900AADNjgh)
now, when you boot, it should take you into ubuntu. On the screen that pops up, select english, and then "Try Ubuntu" or whatever the equivalent is.
now, set up adb and fastboot for ubuntu using any method you like ere is a link to a guide: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/08/install-adb-and-fastboot-android-tools.html don't worry, it works on 13.04 or any other new version of Ubuntu.
Your ADB and Fastboot should work in any terminal window now. If you get an error like "insufficient permisions for device" then read on below:
Normally, you would type "adb devices"
instead, now type "sudo adb devices"
the terminal window will prompt you for a admin pass. Use the pass you used when setting up the trial. if you didn't use a pass, just press enter. for all your following adb or fstboot commands, use "sudo adb..." or "sudo fastboot..."
If this helped you, Thank me
Well that was a waste of a Skyrocket

[Q] Q: Back to stock?

So I know XDA is full of answers to this one, but it seems everyone either has some snarky comment like, "they won't check' or whatever. There are also some ok answers and tuts but some of it's confusing and a lot of the threads go off topic. So i'd like to ask, how do i get my phone back to stock? i have to mail my device back in for a warranty exchange as the speakers and camera stopped working suddenly.
My device is stock rooted, odex rom w/ TWRP. unlocked bootloader. Super CID and S-off. Tampered message gone in boot loader. My laptop runs Windows 8, which I'm having an issue getting the HTC manager to stay open for some reason, even after an uninstall/ reinstall of the manager and drivers. The drivers themselves seemed to have installed fine as my device is recognized as "my HTC" though when in fastboot, my comp will tell me the device is unrecognized. Using the stock usb plug that came with my phone and I've plugged in to both usb 3.0 and 2.0 ports. And yes, I do have ADB in the root of my computer, though I'm wondering if i need a different type of ADB since this is the one i used with windows 7 a while back..or does it matter?
I'd like to get things back to stock as much as possible and would be very appreciative. Thanks!

if your problem is adb have you tried to add it in the "Environment Variables" ?
have you enabled USB debugging in your phone ?
i have windows 8 too and i don't have this kind of problem
I use windows 8 and it has mostly been trouble free for me. However I did have problems with my laptop recognising my phone when in recovery. It eventually worked on it's own but I found this after:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232799
Maybe try installing the windows 8 drivers above.

Yeah i saw that thread, but my phone was already showing up in devices. It just won't be recognized in bootloader or fastboot.

Mine was recognised everywhere (including recovery). I'd get the beep from windows 8 and the driver would initialise but it wasn't recognised by adb.
If you haven't tried installing the above drivers yet it certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

[Q] Fastboot Windows 8.1 64bit

So I've trying for 2 days straight now to get anything work in fastboot on Windows 8.1 x64 and really am out of ideas...
Fastboot devices does nothing, fastboot oem get_identifier_token just waits for devices to show up.
I connect my HTC One on my USB 3.0 port and when it is in fastboot it shows up as My HTC in device manager.
I tried many drivers but nothing seems to work. Tried installing other usb 3.0 drivers, but no luck at all...
USB 2.0 gives device enumeration failed...
Here is some more info on my device:

Found a Solution:
Change USB3.0 Driver from Microsoft to Intel's Driver following this instruction: http://plugable.com/2012/12/01/windows-8-and-intel-usb-3-0-host-controllers
NOTE: If you've an PC with Intel Processor 4th Gen, you've to read the first comment of the Instruction and do what it's said.
after this, you'll get fastboot cmds run in bootloader.
kind regards

While this potentially holds the solution, it's some serious-level ****. I tried this in an attempt to solve the exact same problem about a month ago, and I ended up reinstalling Windows. Because my USB drivers were all ****ed up, I was unable to pull files from the system, so it was a clean install, minus all my music and games and jazz. :/
I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong, so I don't know what happened, but if you're going to follow the directions on the above thing, make sure you do exactly what the **** you're told. As a reminder: it never hurts to have a backup of your Windows install.
Also, it looks like the modified 4th-gen drivers (stock drivers won't install on > Win7) listed in the top comment are now out-of-date, with no replacement. You'll do exactly what I did if you try it on a Haswell CPU with the listed modified drivers. I'd currently consider it a dead end.
So, again, this is complicated. If you're here on XDA, it's assumed you know what you're doing, so maybe go ahead, but this was your warning.
I already gave that a shot, resulting in my USB port not working

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro --> 4th Gen Haswell i7-4500
Installing Driver following instruction went fine. I have access to my phone now.
Probably you've done something wrong.
I also can't flash any ROMS above 4.3... Still on HBoot 1.54
ADB does work though when the phone is booted so I really don't understand this.

Problem with HTC drivers

Hi.
Yesterday I bought a HTC ONE.
It's quite diferent to root and unblock than my previous Galaxy S3.
I've found the All In One Kit that seems to be quite easy to use and user friendly.
However I'm facing strange issues with the drivers...
I just installed the latest HTCDRIVERS.EXE and as soon as I plug the HTC on my laptop, my windows tries to install the driver (with USB debugging ON) but without sucess!
More strange is that, a few seconds after a windows pops up showing "HTC ONE" and asking if I want to open files, see photos and so on...
So, what am I doing wrong since everytime I try to use the ALL IN ONE KIT to get a token ID that will lead to unlock bootloader, I get a "DEVICE NOT FOUND" message?
Please help me...

To get the token ID you need to be in fastboot mode, not booted in Android.

uninstall your current drivers and try these they work flawless for me

and don't rely totally on the toolkit for everything
use the included adb / fastboot files yourself and get familiar with them it may save your butt later
It looks like that the real problem is that ADB sees my HTC as offline!
I can't figure out how can I sort this out...

Unable to unlock bootloader due to errors within ADB and fastboot

Hello,
this is my first thread/post on this forum, if I did anything wrong please don't be super harsh and inform me to what to do better, thanks.
So why am I asking for help anyways you may ask, well I had my old Xperia Z1 laying around here for quite a while now and wondered if I could do anything productive with it.
So I came up with the idea to install a CFW like Lineage OS or something else.
This is not my first rooted and cfw phone but the first one what gives me nightmares and a headache.
So after reading all of the nice guides how to root it and how to unlock it, nothing of them is working for me, most of the threads have missing files which I cannot find on google or other just simply won't work for me.
First of all, I have rooted my phone via KingRoot in the meantime since the other methods where not working either.
I have turned on usb-debugging and also allowed installation from unknown sources.
And there we start with the first problem, downloaded the google SDK and installed all adb things I needed, did not work, then I tried it from the official sony website, downloaded the usb-driver folder and tried to install it manually, won't work either, because the device manager always gave me error code 10 "device cannot be started", I tried different sources and even die google studio thing and everything ended up with the same result.
Same error code even when I tried to activate fastboot on my phone by pressing down the volume up button, pluging the usb cable in, and yet again the same error message for this device too.
I am using windows 10 and never had such problems before with sony devices.
I hope someone of you can help me out to find a solution, if you need any further information, just let me know.
Did you solve this?
I have the same problem

This may sound stupid or ridiculous, but yes I managed to work it out and was able to install the CWF on my phone which is working perfectly fine.
Since nobody was willing to help me I just skipped the part where I wanted to post my solution but yeah, this may help you too.
So what did I do? Simply I stopped using Windows 10 for this project, I just used one of my older PC's which still had Windows 7 Ultimate on it.
I just rooted the phone via KingRoot, since it was the only solution what kinda worked out for me, then I was able to install all needed SDK, fastboot and ADB files on my PC and was able to use the ones from the Sony site itself this time and after plugin in the phone to the PC, it installed everything else what was needed for the device manager.
After that was done with no error I was finally able to unlock the phone via the command which you can find also on the Sony website.
If you find this helpful or need any extra information just let me know, maybe I can help you then. Oh and if you found out a solution for you what worked, would be nice to hear that too.
