T-Mobile Unlimited 4G plan - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

does anyone who has the unlimited 4G plan on T-Mobile get LTE or HSPA+? Whenever I download apps or anything really it seems to go slow despite the status bar displaying 4G LTE. This happened also on my HTC M8. Today as I payed my bill online I noticed that the nationwide 4G option doesn't say LTE while the others with hotspot do.

I usually have the 4G LTE icon. I've checked it with Network Signal Info and it confirms that. I'm in Silly-Con Valley but I also get LTE in Sacramento and north into Rocklin and that area. It will sometimes drop down to 4G (HSPA+) when I'm travelling at the fringe of my usual areas.

How much data have you used? If it's over 10gb and you're doing it during "peak hours" you might be experiencing the new prioritization.

last month around 5GB, my cycle just started & I was downloading an app that was 40MB with full LTE signal and it was downloading at 150kbps at around 9 PM. Anyways, this is seriously pathetic. AT&T's 3G is faster than this. SMH

Here's what I got just now

I'm on the unlimited LTE plan. Great speeds here in NYC. I've used 12gb so far this cycle.

wth!? I seriously hate these edge results! In gonna go see what's up and probably compare speeds on my buddys AT&T S6

16.5MBPS on TMO HSPA+ in the US...

I was looking at the 18MBPS LTE speeds in canada and was confused. I'm getting a consistant 14-17 MBPS on HSPA+. What's with the rush for LTE?
I got 17.56Mbps. However, according to the LTE thread, some people in Canada can get up to ~40-50 Mbps...
Did a speed test the other day on T-Mobile HSPA+ and I got over 20. Not bad considering my home internet connection is 25. My Nexus 4 is lightning fast on HSPA+, I'm not seeing the need to switch to LTE either for at least a couple more years.
I have reached 21 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. LTE is average 30+ download and upload.
HSPA+ saves battery and LTE kills it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The reason LTE is better is that is generally has lower latency speeds and absolutely has faster upload speeds.
In the US, AT&T has terrible 3G speeds. But T-mobile's HSPA network is generally really fast. So it really depends on your provider. And yes, LTE has very little latency. But if you are on T-mobile and have great coverage, I don't think LTE would be a big change. Unless you are tethering, LTE vs HSPA+ is not a huge difference.

The shift key?
I haven't had super stellar HSPA+ speeds around town (Portland, OR, on T-Mobile) but just now I did one and got 24.2Mbps down, 5Mbps up. :good: Good enough for me by far. That's faster than my home internet.
Edit: Wait, that was my home internet. Up too late last night... 13Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up. That's still not bad.
If we do enable the LTE part of the phone, does that mean our battery life would be depleting faster?

But T-Mobile is going to construct an AWS LTE network in the US, and it will be newer than the LTE on other carriers.
People also forget.
What is the use of 50 Mbps download if the website you are looking at only displays at 10 Mbps up?

I guess a lot of people hoping for LTE are on AT&T. I get a bit 2-3 Mbps down, 1-1.5 Mbps up (250-375 KB/s and 125-188 KB/s, I don't get why people use bits for bandwidth when everyone is clearly more familiar with bytes...).
I wonder if you need a smartphone plan on AT&T to get LTE on an off-network-branded device. I'm using MediaNET and I'd rather pay $10 for unlimited 3G than $25 for 2GB of 4G. If we can eventually use LTE incognito on AT&T and keep our MediaNET plans, I'll be happy. Doesn't really make a difference to me either way. 3G speeds are more than good enough for browsing. I don't mind a little buffering if I'm streaming HD video on the go.
I have vzw lte and tmo hspa (via straight talk) with both I see ~10Mbps in and around southern california, so I too see no need to rush out for an LTE phone AND I figure the n5 will have it so in a year this will all be moot.

Pre payed att you do require a smartphone plan to get the full speed. It will be like 50 bucks I believe..

You guys are lucky. I literally get less than .2Mbps down/up where I live due to it being 2G :crying:. Always on my 30/5 WiFi. Sometimes I'll get upwards of 5 in the city. Some "4G" eh? T-Mobile is an absolute joke for me here and I HATE it.
LTE is king for latency.
I play a lot of counterstrike, and there used to be a regular who'd play over VZW LTE. Guy had lower latency than I did over cable. More important, he seemed completely fluid in the game-- no jitter or packet loss. Completely playable. That's huge.
Your thread title's pretty misleading. There is a big difference between 16.5MBPS and 16.5MbPS.

Best plan for LTE Version of HTC One?

I'm moving to Florida from Canada, and I'm having some trouble finding a good LTE plan there. I've checked out Straight Talk, AIO Wireless and Net10, but none of them seem to offer LTE? Is there a reseller, or a plan available through AT&T that offers LTE and possible calls to Canada? I'm using the Telus version of the HTC One.

As far as I can tell the only carrier that has decent rates on prepaid LTE is T-Mobile right now ($30/month with 200 voice minutes, unlimited texting, 5GB data). That said, they have a very small LTE footprint. AT&T's prepaid GoPhone service now has LTE support but it's a lot more expensive.
Either tmobile unlimited lte for 70$ a month or att which will cost more but you will get better coverage outside of cities. Plus they have plans to call to canda but if you get tmobile you can WiFi call to canada for free I believe with certain tmobile plans. If you won't be traveling on highways or to rural areas get tmobile for sure but if coverage is important for you and you would like speeds greater than edge outside of any major city get att but your looking easily over 100$ a month
Tmobile unlimited everything
And they don't slow your speeds down anymore
You can get unlimited minutes with att if you pay for it but you will not get unlimited data 30$ for 3 gb 10$ a gb after that never gets slowed down either but you pay for overages.
Really it all comes down to were you will be and travel and how important coverage is to you
I have att bit I travel out if cities all the time and go to metros and rural areas so I have to have att I can't be on edge every time I leave the city. You will still be able to make calls with tmobile but forget about getting on internet if your not in a populated area
It all comes down to preference but those are you two best options
Sprint is worse than tmobile for coverage and they don't have SIM cards only t mobile and att
My personal opinion to you though is if money isn't a issue get att you will get way better coverage and way better lte
I'm talking 60mbps + dl 20 + ul
Depending on area of course but I've never seen tmobile with these speeds and I live in Oklahoma city Oklahoma so if I get that here with att image what att would be in Florida

Verizon LTE Band 4 Network 411380 live!!!

Just wanted to bring this to your awareness, Verizon's started to broadcast their AWS or Band 4 LTE network for testing purposes. If your Nexus 4 has old radio, put it in LTE Only mode, and manually search for networks.
If it shows up as 311480, please report here.
So far San Diego is live, although the user used another T-Mobile Band 4 capable LTE device to scan.
Cool but useless. There's no CDMA fall back for calling and text. So you'd have internet access and that's it. Stupid Verizon and their CDMA crap.

If Verizon's 2x20Mhz internet access capable of 100+Mbps is useless to you then be it...
But what's the point. I suppose you could use all the workarounds to do VoIP but normal calling and texting is a no go since there's no CDMA fall back. My point is Verizon is only half in. Not to mention that Verizon has very little band 4 holdings at all. but hey like I said it's cool that it works.

Verizon has nearly nationwide Band 4 spectrum holdings. Completely unused, just sitting there.
Way more than AT&T for example who's divested most of their licenses to T-Mobile as a breakup fee.
And also way more free, unused AWS (Band 4) than T-Mobile which has to keep and maintain 20Mhz chunks for their existing HSPA+42 network for at least 1-2years.
That said, east of Mississippi Verizon is deploying 2x20Mhz LTE that can push 150Mbps on Cat 4 equipment. Just saying...
West of Mississippi they're mostly 2x15Mbps capable of over 100Mbps, with some markets with 2x10Mhz.
To put that in the perspective for you, their current nationwide Band 13 LTE is 2x10Mhz which is currently twice the capacity of T-Mobile's live LTE in most of their markets (2x5Mhz).
The point is, you can have your existing device besides being a smartphone also acting as a Verizon MiFi, if you ever wish to get access to Verizon's new stupid fast network with no one on it...

hey, it's better than nothing. And testing things like that are fun, don't you think?
It's been widely reported that once they were done with their nationwide rollout of LTE later this year that they would then start using their band 4 aws holdings to fill in the holes and to augment their existing LTE service during peak loads.

This is really awesome for people like me that only have Verizon's LTE in my area. If this could actually work, I'd switch to it, at least for a month; just to mess around with, and to blow people's minds when I tell them I have a GSM phone on Verizon's network (I know, not that impressive to the average XDA user, but to the ignorant masses, doing something like that is crazy).
The voice is no issue for me as I've used a tablet plan the past 2 months with a VoIP alternative.
The only problem is that Verizon only has pay-as-you-go 3G plans, you'd have to sign up for a regular LTE plan with a 2 year agreement and they are expensive. This might be an option for someone who's already a Verizon customer to try but not practical for most people.

AT&T always had the HSPA+ 4G on pre-paid and just added LTE. You still have to have an LTE plan and live in an area with AWS, Chicago will be mostly AWS as AT&T didn't have a lot of 700 MHz licenses in that area but that's one of the few places that you will find it.
You can still scan for Verizon's LTE on your Nexus even if you don't have their SIM. At least you'll know if your area has that option available. They're still in the very early stage of deployment, San Diego report is literally the very first report of Verizon's Band 4 network broadcasting.
They won't be deploying on Band 4 nationwide from the get go, it's gonna be metro areas with heavy traffic first, then building inside-out.
It will be data only since Nexus 4 doesn't have CDMA radios, but as I said earlier, it's beneficial to have this option if you ever need another carrier for data hotspot.
Oh, and if you have Verizon's LTE iPad for instance, that's a prepaid service, you can totally use that SIM on any other LTE capable device.
Welp, I don't have any Band IV in my area so that came a quick halt.

Yeah, I meant LTE when I said 4G, since HSPA+ isn't really 4G (actually, LTE doesn't even meet the 4G standard as set by the 3GPP, but that's a whole other discussion)

I'm on Rogers, which is the same service and I get 4G using ltemobile.apn. I'm more than happy with this and have been getting 38 mbit on speedtest.
I've not seen the LTE icon tho, and either I cannot get it in this area (which seems unlikely as I am in downtown Vancouver) or this phone will not do LTE as it does not have the 700 band.

I see a 4G icon and have not seen the LTE icon. I've read the manual and it mentions a LTE icon but not a 4G icon, but that's what I have. For all I know I am actually getting LTE.
I had thought that LTE was even faster then this, especially in major cities near antennas.
But from what I have read a lot of LTE users do not even get the speeds I am seeing so I am quite pleased with this phone's data connection as it is.
I am on TELUS and when i originally got the phone it only showed 4G. I have however updated to 534 and it now shows LTE. Hope that helps?

I'm on 534 now. Can I ask what sort of speeds you are getting?
LTE coverage on the Z1 is more spotty though compared to my previous Note 2. Also Telus lacks access to 2600mhz LTE from Bell/Rogers which offers higher speeds.
hey guys, if you are getting anything above 30mbps/download.. especially member 30 Seconds who is getting 48mbps, that's definitely LTE. I just wanted to confirm that you DONT need the 700Mhz to be on LTE. I called Fido on separate occasions due an initial 'not-so-bright' rep who take ages to answer my question and eventually needed to ask her co-worker for help (I don't know how they get hired.. lol) and both Fido employees have stated that ONLY 2100 and 2600 Mhz is needed for LTE. I questioned if support for 700Mhz is needed and they said no. I still am not able to test out my Z1 yet which is still in the box so hopefully somebody can come forward and verify that they see their C6903 showing the LTE symbol on Fido or Rogers.
The frequencies are used differently.
High frequency in urban areas for throughput. Low frequency for less dense areas, more range and penetration. So, what you"need" depends on where you are basically.

LTE Status Bar Icon

Just received my unlocked Z3 Compact from Handtec. Data wasn't working so I inputted the APNs for my carrier (AT&T).

Go to settings, About Phone, Status and see if it shows you are connected to LTE. That's where it is on my Moto X so it should be close to the same but maybe named differently.
Also are you in an area that you had LTE service before? I see 4G in areas then 4G LTE in others.

Cool. Good to know, thanks.
In some customizations (e.g. UK) it's called 4G while in others (e.g. German) they named it LTE. Don't ask me why, but I noticed that while playing a bit around with the "Customized UK build .105" on my otherwise "Customized DE build .98".
I always thought that H+ was HSPA + (obviously), that 4G was LTE, but just 'slow' LTE, and that 4G LTE was 'high speed' LTE when you have a really good connection. Not sure though.

No no, here 4G means LTE, no difference over here.
Technically, only to add a bit confusion, LTE -whereas a 4th Generation network- is a 3.9G-Standard (extention to UMTS). LTE-Advanced, however, is (or will be) of 4G-Standard. :silly:
I think you should see LTE as well if in the US. One way to tell is to do a speed test, there are also apps in the market that can give you more info on your network connection.

The call reps keep confirming that my Lumia 925 IMEI, an LTE phone, is registered correctly. Nothing changes, however, regardless of reboots, etc.. What device do you see in your My Account settings on AT&T's site? I keep seeing a silhouette of a flip phone. I'm wondering if I need to activate my nano sim in an LTE device they recognized or something (it doesn't fit in the Lumia 925).
Issue resolved!
Bottom line...do not give these clowns your Xperia IMEI number.
When they entered the IMEI number it flipped my data plan from a grandfathered unlimited plan to a pay-per-use plan with no LTE (why they couldn't figures this out last night, it beats me). He was talking about my wife's plan and her unlimited data. I then noted "mine is unlimited too" and then said it wasn't. You can only imagine how things went from there.
The unrecognized IMEI number automatically switched me off of my plan.
They have me on a temporary 3GB plan, as the support rep couldn't get me back on the unlimited plan. They have to send the change to their back office team and it will take a week to get it back.
My phone now has the 4G icon versus H+.

Is that the stock status bar icon for battery and 4g? Or are you modded already?
If stock, those are the best stock icons I've ever seen besides pure AOSP!

Stock
I hate to be daft here, but I feel like the answers are all a tad ambiguous.
Are people saying there for sure is no LTE icon for this phone? That having the 4G icon show is the same thing as having the LTE icon show?
I ask only because I have the 4G icon but I am getting like 1-3Mbps download speeds (using the speedtest app). I feel like I should be getting much higher speeds if it says 4G. I tested in the heart of downtown Seattle and in the outskirts of Seattle.
Any assistance would be great.

Obviously there's something wrong with those speeds but from what I know - yes 4G is LTE. This is because HSPA+/DCHSPA was never marketed as 4G in the UK so there had never been a confusion about what 4G is - it has always been LTE.
Ah, was wondering why they would scrap the LTE icon, my S4 had 4G and LTE icons.
What DL/Upload speeds are people in the US getting with 4G?
Just got 7/3.85 just now... which still seems way too low for 4G. Verified that my APN settings were correct.
I got 20 down in "4G" yesterday (no LTE icon). All good

Are you using the SIM from an LTE phone or did you get a new one and give them your IMEI? The Z3c isn't going to be in any US carriers system so if you give them the IMEI you will not get LTE. Give them the IMEI from an LTE phone or just swap your SIM from one LTE on me to the Z3c.
I also think unless its a US sold phone you will not see the LTE icon even if getting a LTE signal in the US.

So how would one go about finding a 'fake' iemi number? I've read the 'use a display model' method. Any others?
