Pesky AT&T Tilt email sending problems.
I have an AT&T Tilt with standard WM 6.1 ROM.
A.
Whenever I travel, I always have problems sending emails from the phones email client. The problem persists even if I use wifi. I can receive emails.
I have tried disabling the proxy, enabling the proxy. I have checked and unchecked the "outgoing mail requires authentication".
I have called AT&T and they told me that since I had trialed the iPhone 3GS in April and returned it, my account was not returned to the "smartphone" plan which was the supposed cause of my issues. AT&T changed it back to the smartphone plan and the problem remains.
In the past I have deleted the accounts and re-added them. That seems to work for one send cycle and then the problem returns.
I can access the internet and see my pop mail accounts using IE and Opera, via my TILT. However, one of those email accounts does not allow me to login, saying my authentications are incorrect……………………..(I wonder if there is a clue here).
The access point name is wap.cingluar
As I said, I can surf the net using the phone, can receive email but cannot send email from the various email accounts I have set up on the phone regardless if I use wi-fi or the AT&T network.
B.
The other thing that seems to crop up at the same time is an error message saying my phones memory is at or near capacity. I check the memory meter and fair enough, there is less than 1mb of memory available in the phone's storage, but the amount of storage for programs is more than 30mb. I have the phone configured to download files to the storage card.
This is a constantly recurring problem.
C.
My next move is to change phones to an Android. My case for Android is simple : I need a phone I can set up for both tethering and as a wifi access point. The iPhone allows tethering but at an added price. The iPhone does not allow for wifi access point usage. I am interested in the Samsung Galaxy S. I have some questions:
1. Has anyone been successful in setting up an Android, particularly AT&T Samsung Captivate for tethering and as a wifi access point?
2. I understand AT&T does not allow non-market apps onto the phone. So if you are a Captivate user how can this be accomplished?
3. If you have accomplished this and you are not an AT&T Samsung Captivate user, please tell me what carrier you are with and how you accomplished it.
I am aware of a process called rooting. I am no techie and don't wish to risk bricking my phone. I am also aware that Android 2.2 will provide tethering (or is it wifi access point capability?) Is anyone aware as to which carriers will either allow this or present the least barriers for a users work around? I am open to switching carriers.
I have been having the issue where Google talk looses connection to the server repeatedly. I have to go back to the main gtalk screen to get it log back. I had this problem on Cog 4.5.3 and continuing on CM7, which I flashed today (nightly 181). This seems to be the only issue. I have search around the forum and the interwebz and have yet to find any actual solution to this problem. Any help from the XDA crew would be greatly appreciated!
I am using an Atrix 4g, CherryPi build, and this same problem recently started for me over this past weekend. Before that, it was working fine, but for some reason, it now loses connection to gtalk everytime I back out of the app. Hopefully someone can find a solution.
I'm having this issue since Friday December 2nd.
Everything works fine over Wi-Fi but when I'm connected to AT&T 3G network the Google Services keep loosing connection and then reconnect.
It is not only Google Talk, it is all Google Services including Google Voice and GMail - now I get my messages late and sometimes I have to manually refresh to get new messages.
It is happening on my phone that runs CM7.1 and my wife's phone that runs CM6 and never been updated since December last year.
No settings were changed on either phone but both of them started having this problem last Friday.
I spend half an hour on the phone with AT&T technical support but they were useless and just said they have opened a case and will investigate.
Moreover, sometimes Gmail over IMAP was not available ("cannot connect to server") and Chase bank app could not connect to Chase server either
The problem still exists today for the 4th day.
Again, everything works 100% perfect over my home wi-fi connection, so there is clearly no phone or ROM problem.
Are you guys all on AT&T network or are you with other carriers and countries?
I am going to an AT&T store today to test a phone on display.
BTW, my phone is Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S), rooted, running CM7.1
I personally believe that AT&T is having problem with their APN.
My brother has SGSII and he is using a different APN that is only available to customers that have newer "4G" (HSDPA+) phones.
When he switched to "wap.cingular" he had the same issue in GTalk.
But he has no problem with Google Services using AT&T's new APN:
APN: phone
instead of "wap.cingular"
But this is only available to HSDPA+ customers. I cannot switch to this APN.
I'm with you guys. I noticed today that I would lose my data connection when using many different Google services. Talk, GMail, and YouTube all cause my to lose my data connection (bars go grey from the normal blue, meaning I can make calls and do SMS, but I have no data connection).
Google Talk:
As long as I am on the main screen, I am connected and can see who is online and offline. As soon as I click on a person's name, I start to lose my connection. Occasionally I can get a message out before I lose my data connection, most of the time I can't.
GMail:
Messages come in on a LONG delay over mobile data, and when I am in the GMail application, I lose my data connection.
YouTube: The app loads, I can search for videos, I can even choose videos, but they will never load. I lose my data connection until I back out of Youtube.
All of this works just fine over Wifi.
Anyone have any additional information for us? When I noticed the problem, nothing had changed on my phone for weeks (I'm running Atrix CM7 nightly 20, which was released back before Thanksgiving). Tonight I did a full wipe in fastboot and reinstalled everything from scratch, and I have the same problem.
DK
P.S. I am on AT&T in Massachusetts.
Here is what I did as a temporary workaround.
I gave AT&T my brother's SGS II IMEI and told them that this is my new phone.
After the new IMEI was posted to my profile the data plan code has changed from SMT2GB to HSSMT2GBH
This way I have gained access to AT&T's new gateway (APN: phone).
With this gateway I have a stable connection to Google Services and the GTalk works perfectly, no jumping in and out.
The only problem is that I tried so many options but I could not setup the access point for MMS.
I don't usually use MMS anyway, so no big deal to me.
I consider it as a temporary workaround, hoping that AT&T is going to fix their wap.cingular anytime soon. It's been 4 days so far. And every technical support rep I spoke to says that he/she never heard about this problem before and this was their first time ...

Full wipe (or clear data, clear cash, etc.) won't help here, this is clearly AT&T's problem. But I was about to do the same before I found out that my wife's phone acts exactly the same way. This saved me from setting up my phone from scratch
P.S. I have visited an AT&T Retail Location today and tested a few 3G phones they have on display - same problem detected.
(Woodbridge, New Jersey)
OK, guys. The problem is gone this morning.
I have a stable connection to all Google Services through "wap.cingular" APN.
Congradulations AT&T, it took 4 days to fix the problem ...

Ha, if I had found this thread yesterday it would have saved me several ROM installs. Oops
AT&T
Just a little update, if anyone would read this thread.
In February-March AT&T had the same problem with wap.cingular again and other APN had no problem.
Googel used to sing in and out all the time and quite a few websites were not loading at all giving me a message "page cannot be found"
Speaking to an AT&T rep was useless as always.
The first guy told me AT&T cannot guarantee 100% access to the internet at all times and there is nothing they could do about it.
Second guy called me a few times, he even tested a phone (or at least he said so) and did not find any problem. Then he called me back again and wanted me to do a factory reset. I told him I'm not doing it, peroid. My wife's phone does the same this and so does my old LG Incite with STOCK windows 6.1. I also told him that I'm not using their AT&T stock bloatware, since I told him that he started to push to the point that my problem was with unsupported OS and this was not AT&T's problem. I told him that I pay AT&T for SERVICE and not for the phone support and repeated that the other two devices have the same problem. I told him I'm not an average lamer-user, therefore he can't give me all that BS. He had nothing to reply but only promise to call me back WHICH NEVER HAPPEND.
Yes, he never called me back.
But next day the problem was gone. Maybe they found the problem and he was embarassed to call me back? Maybe the problem was gone by itself like it started. I don't know.
But it's all OK now since then.
Last week I flashed ICS 4.0.4 and now the phone is even faster and only better!

Hey guys I upgraded from my M7 yesterday to my HK edition today. I have a few questions hopefully y'all can answer for me.
It seems to me that I am having the same issues other people are having. At my sprint store (I am a sales rep) I had 4G LTE all day yesterday no issues. I get home and BAM can't connect to 3G/4G at all. No phone calls. No texts. One sales rep seen a 26% block rate on service trender and seen that my most frequently used tower at home is not connected to my phone. I figured it might be because I just upgraded to a tri-band device. My M7 had full bars 4G all the time when I was home. The other sprint rep said I could have a defective device. My friend who lives 3 houses down has a regular M8 and I am waiting for him to get here to see if he has similar issues..but his phone might connect to other towers. I went to my nearest sprint store after customer service spent 30 minutes trying to manually program the phone. The phone refused to activate over the air I literally had to drive down about ten minutes to my local sprint store so it would connect to 3G to re-activate.
1.Is there anyway besides the HTC backup tool to backup the phone? It took me about an hour and a half yesterday to use the tool to restore all my pics as well as manually re-download all the apps.
2.How hard is it to root the special HK edition? Is it worth the trouble rooting then performing a nandroid? Because I might have to send the device back to sprint I will have to send it back completely stock, and for all I know my data issues might persist through a nandroid backup.
3.Has anyone found a solution to receive texts through Wi-Fi? I know sprint launched the Wi-Fi calling but unfortunately the M8 doesn't support it yet. Thanks everyone.
You should keep your bulky data (Pictures, Music etc.) on the External SD Card.
Then just pop it out and into the next phone.
There is many levels and ways to back it up.
I use Exchange (my work) for Contacts, Email and Calendar. I set my wife up on Exchange through Hotmail (lot nicer than google in my opinion).
Let Google Restore all the Apps and some settings (WIFI, Theme etc.).
I also root and Backup through Recovery. But if I want to start from scratch it doesn't take too long.
I use Dropbox for Photos.
I've never used HTC Backup.

He was coming from M7, so SD card wasn't an option.
Titanium Backup can backup to Google Drive, but that may only be the paid version (totally worth it).

I ended up having to order a replacement. I'm back on my M7 for now until the replacement arrives. I think i might root and to titanium and then flash back to stock.
How are you guys restoring your stuff from your old to new note when you swap it?
Looking for something that backs up app data. Setting up Samsung Pay with 4 credit/debit cards isn't fun. Smartswitch didn't back up app data but I heard Samsung Cloud might.
Also the whole logistics of this situation is ridiculous. Are we supposed to sit in the store for a half hour waiting for everything to transfer?
I opted for the loaner S7edge and was told that after I swap my Note7 flammable edition for a new and hopefully non-flammable model, I would be responsible for sending back the loaner phone. All this setting and resetting is upsetting to say the least!

Well i call my tmobile and they said on the 21st they will have them.
So im going to backup using the smartswitch app on my pc.
Then use the samsung cloud sync and move everything else to sd card (most is already there).
Do all this right before i go to the store and i shouldnt lose to much stuff.
When i went from edge 7 to note 7. I lost spay data (good thing tho), most app data was online already. (Auto or manual sync and online games)
So really only had to log into my accounts.
Which isnt a bad thing. Stops other peolme from getting your info if they somehow got your backups.
But yes it does suck switching phones.

I'm very happy to see that Samsung pay will now support cloud sync. I lost the Samsung rewards card when I factory reset my note, and had to call to have it added. It still isn't there and I'll try again to get this resolved once I have the new device. I plan on using Samsung cloud for restoring my Note 7. I already had to set everything up when I got the S7 edge to replace my note 5(two weeks before release), then when I first got the Note 7 and then again when the phone was buggy and needed a factory reset. Too much, and I can't wait to do this on my new phone to be done with it for a while.

So Samsung Cloud definitely does work?
I did a factory reset on my Note 7 after setting up the cloud and had no issues. Before it was called "samsung cloud' I had backed up what I could from my Note 5. Most important was call log and text messages, and they all moved from device to device with no issue.
My phone is constantly being interrupted by this annoying popup: (I can't post links being a new user, but the image is at imgur FN7uUhL )
"Alert
Sorry, we're having trouble connecting. Make sure you have a good signal and try again. If you still can't connect, call us at 800-922-0204.
Error code 1001"
It doesn't say what app it is, but I suspect it's from Verizon because the phone number is theirs.
My phone is unlocked and I use it on Personal in Argentina. I've used this phone for years and this only started happening last Thursday out of nowhere. No new apps, no system upgrade.
Rebooting the phone doesn't help either, and I wouldn't want to factory reset if it can be avoided. Any ideas what this might be?
Thanks!
same, just today noticed this on an older LG G4

Same thing here have had Moto E4 Plus on Metro PCS for the last few years and just started receiving this message in the last week. The phone was a Verizon phone that I unlocked and has been working great on Metro...until now. What's going on?

Same here on my note 4, using T-mo prepaid. Just started a week ago. Also the verizon splash screen still displays on power up. My understanding is the V boot loader is locked.

SOLVED I had the same problem as well but I found a way to get rid of it, you gotta disable the My Verizon app and then 1 settings then mobile networks then network mode and set the global off to LTE/GSM/UMTS and then it will not pop up anymore, your welcome.

Good news, I found the locations since I don't have "my verizon apps" Bad news, the fix does NOT work at all.
Solved
I actually got online with Motorola because I knew that the app causing this nightmare was Verizon Login . The problem is that I debloated all my Verizon and the problem still occurred. But then by going through Settings | Apps | ... |Show System, I say the bugger was still there. I disabled it and the problem was solved. Of course this worked for me because I'm on an unblocked phone and note using Verizon.
My husbands Samsung Galaxy S7 has been doing this for over a month. He tried disabling anything Verizon related and even a factory reset and it's still doing it.

Yes, I did same with my note 4, still there. IGNORE those solved posts, this problem is NOT solved. I use T-mobile prepaid with this phone and since verizon locks the boot loader, there is not yet a rooting solution for this phone and since it's a note 4 there will not be one forthcoming.
fixed it permanently
SOLVED: I have two Verizon phones that I now use on T-Mobile and this has worked for both.
Settings->Apps & Notifications->App Info (options may be slightly renamed on different versions of Android, may be Applications instead, just get to the big list of applications in the Settings app)
then hit the triple dot/menu thing to give extra options and choose Show System
Scroll down and choose Verizon Login and disable it and force stop it.
Message will be gone forever. I've rebooted both phones several times and the message has never come up again.
In addition, disable permissions of My Verizon: SMS, phone and GPS location, your welcome

So I have an old Verizon tablet that is running android 5.1.1. I don't have options for "show system" or "Verizon login" that I can find. Anybody familiar with this 5.1.1 that knows where it would be or if I'm overlooking. Thanks.
Awesome! I'm using an unlocked Verizon LG G5 in Canada and I've been trying for quite some time to get rid of this problem. I've tried all the suggested fixes I could find on the net and this is the solution! Thanks so much buddy. Much appreciated eh!
This problem started recently for me on Samsung S6 unlocked Verizon phone that I use with foreign SIM cards when traveling. I tried restoring settings to default, but that didn't work. Then I tried resetting network settings and that appears to have worked. it was popping up every couple minutes and so far it has not.
don't work
i know this is a old post but i changed the network it didnt fix it it made me not have signal and still popped up so i had to change it back to global and its still doing it , it only started last month i have a s6 unlocked verzion its so annoying
Solved - BIG TIME!!

I had the same problem on my unlocked S6 Edge and knew that the Verizon Login app was the issue but the damn phone wouldn't let me disable it; grayed out. I bought an app in the Play Store named "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)" for $2.99. The thing will let you disable ANY software whether built in or not. So once you launch, disable Verizon Login with it and the problem is gone. If you disable "Setup Wizard", you also won't get the stupid message about the SIM not being VZW card when you boot. I disabled all the other Verizon software too. Problem was so aggravating that I got an account here just to share the answer since I figure it has to be driving people CRAZY!!!!

Help!!!
Still having this issue, I’ve disabled all those apps, force stopped them, and it continues to haunt the phone. I’ve called Verizon and they don’t know anything about it, and I’m really about to throw the phone away and buy a new one. It’s an s7 so it’s still a decent phone, but I don’t know what else to do
So Close, but Disable is Disabled

This definitely got me closer. Using this method I was able to revoke permissions which forces VZ SpyLogin to fail so it isn't running, BUT, the "Disable" button is disabled, even if I force stop the app. It's most certainly this application causing the issue. Thanks for the closest solution.
**EXTRA info
This wasn't happening at all on my phone ever, and this is an old one (I need the IR blaster in the Samsung G6). It's an unlocked Verizon branded phone running on ATT network. I factory reset it yesterday and now I am getting this annoying Verizon Login nonsense.
