Default, haven't gone too crazy trying much. I tried Poweramp over a year ago. It has some very nice features but I personally like to just play my music and not have to mess about with it.
I've tried Shuffle and as much as I want to like it, I end up hating it. I like to be able to easily pause, replay, or skip a song. On the lock screen, it doesn't have a replay button and has the possibly most annoying button I've ever seen which is the 'x' that stops and closes the player. It's tiny and very close to the skip button so I've frequently accidentally hit this button and then I find myself having to unlock my phone, open Shuffle, and restart my music. This is very aggravating when you're on the go.
MX Player can play music? I love it for video content!

It has got a cool ui, also the Dev did a pretty awesome job doing this app, it can be found in cyanogenmod 12.1, a KitKat port is also available in Google
I used to prefer foobar2000, it's really a great lightweight player, but nowadays I just use the stock media player (Windows), because it's also quite lightweight and I'm lazy to reinstall everytime I format my comp. But I miss foobar2000 a bit, I may reinstall it... The only grudge I have against it is that it's not opensource (just freeware, which is already very cool). There's a thread on reddit about an opensource alternative, but so far there's none:
reddit dot com /r/osx/comments/1wcv69/lightweight_open_source_mp3_player_with/
They also are working on a mobile version that should work on Android.
I've been using shuttle because stock hated my phone, but I am annoyed it doesn't play WAV files. What's a good music player that does play WAV files? I've tried a few, but they all sucked.

U may try Poweramp, MX Player, N7 player, KM Player as music player which support almost all file formats. WAV is also supported.

On Android VLC is my favorite player.
Among the reasons why is that VLC brings its own codecs.
On PC I somehow dislike all players. I dislike JuK least.
Poweramp is the best....

I dont love it but i use iTunes
back in the days there was Sonique....
i loved that
I quite like N7Player. Sure, the UI is a little confusing at first.. But no more so than most UI's these days. I love the extensive EQ.
Also, my internal geeky-Game-nerd always does a little happydance due to the name.
For Video I like VLC, but the new versions can't properly handle MKV's... So I'm still using the Beta version.
Why don't use MX player? It's the only fully functioning ( as far as I have seen) and yet one of the best video player around!
MX, like every other player that listens to lawsuits, ripped out the mkv h264 codecs. For copyright reasons. To 'combat piracy'. As if that would stop us.
I have MX installed, the paid version. Bought in the days when h264 still worked, a purchase I now greatly regret. If I load up any of my series or films, be it Person of Interest, Sherlock, Lord of the Rings or whichever, all I get is a 'video not supported' error.
Trust, no. Not until it works.
Also, there is no way in hell I am clicking that link. You could just as easily have posted the Google Play link instead of some myserious redirect.
Have you tried installing a codec?

Is there any Developer working in a new audio player, with a lot of new features including just play songs from the folder you select.
I use my g1 on my car alot and the stock audio players sucks!
for example I can't play songs from a specific folder, the player takes all the songs from the g1 sdcard. the shuffle option don't work right I have about 1500 songs and it playes the sames songs when on shuffle etc.
I'm desperate for a new audio players with good features, specific to use the g1 as a real mp3 player, and for car mp3 play use.
TuneWiki perhaps?
^^^ I hate tune wiki. It never displays the right album artwork.
Hey there! Not trying to hijack your thread, but I got a quick question...I noticed that you said you use your G1 in the car. I have Ford Sync and I have heard the music/navigation broadcast over the speakers, but only when I was actually on a call. How are you connecting? Bluetooth doesn't work and I've also tried using the usb cable.
I also second your "request" for a new music player. The G1 is lacking in the music/video department. My boyfried has an iPhone and I just can't argue when it comes to the media part of the phone...my only argument is having to use iTunes.
Perrosky, have you tried aPlayer?
I'll agree with you on those points. I have a lot of poorly-tagged music and just being able to browse by folder/file would be helpful. Shuffling a folder would be nice as well.
I ended up creating a ton of playlists to accomplish this with the current players. Tunewiki is a step up from the bundled player, but it is still quite lacking.
Some other features I'd like to see:
1. Audio controls like EQ, Balance, etc.
2. Bookmarking. If I'm 15 minutes into a 30 minute audiobook track I'd really prefer to not have to remember where I left off when I start listening again.
I'm sure it is only a matter of time before somebody ports an open source audio player to Android. If they can do it for Rockbox, they can do it for android...

AMEN! I Have been searching for a media player that could do that.
That is the ONLY thing I miss about my windows mobile phone is the windows media player!
I hope coreplayer can do this. Almost 80% of my songs are poorly tagged (ID3) and being able to play an entire folder would be perfect!
I now have the phone for a couple of months now. I am now starting to listen to music on my phone but the problem I have, I can't get the music to play the next song which is in line. I play one song than it repeats over and over. Oh yeah I use the window media player and I'm trying put all the songs on a play list but I don't know how to get them there. Can somebody help me?
Can somebody just guide me as if I am a noob and don't know what I'm doing? Well actually I am a noob but please can somebody help me! Thank you
I would recommend getting a proper music player like "Pocket Player" or "Pocket Music". You can get free players as well. "Mortplayer" and "S2P" are great.
About WMP. Did you check:
wmp ---> menu ---> shuffe/repeat
Maybe you have clicked on repeat by accident?
where can I get the pocket player or pocket music from?
I tried the repeat and shuffle thing but even if I click the button that is suppose to play the next song doesn't play. I can click the previous button but it replays the song.

Nitrogen is a good music player too.
The link you have provide. I downloaded it and transfered it to my phone and now its saying I can't in stall it. It says 'PocketPlayerSetup' is not a valid Pocket PC application.
You've probably downloaded the windows executable. If you want to use that then ensure you have your phone connected and Active Sync is started and execute the program from your windows PC. Otherwise look for the .cab file from the server and install that from the phone.
Interesting .. I've just yesterday looked for a decent player .. and I have found this:
Nitrogen player: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-nitrogen-player.html
It's rather simple, but it has all I need, like album art, and it can play folders (I hate making playlists), and it has nice finger controls. It can also play with screen off and HW buttons still active.

It'a really a gr8 player.Nice sound and volume higher than the default players - I have installed 6.1 v16 x1 rom by touch it.
Actually I have some problems with it. I mean one problem. Sometimes it clicks. It's like once per 5 minutes, but the playback is just not perfect. I had the same problem with CorePlayer, but there using higher thread priority solved it.
Nitrogen does not have such option, but the problem seems to be the same. If I change the priority for all 4 nitrogen threads in the task manager, it works fine.
Guess I will write to the author to provide that option.
If I'm not usung MediaPanel,
I admire LCGJukebox - simple look, skinnable,
all needed functions (Also EQ however I never use it...)
Absolutely gr8. And plays folders.
I just got a Lumia 920 and I absolutely hate the music players they have on it. The Nokia app is only a little better than the stock Xbox music app. For one thing, you can't specify where to look for your music, so it adds any MP3 file on the phone to your music list, which makes doing shuffle a pain. And for some reason, it is impossible to get a playlist on the phone unless all the songs are in the same folder. Anyone know a decent music player, or at least a way to get a good playlist on the phone? I tried using Mediaplayer from the pc and no luck.
Thanks for any help!

Disagree totally. On my Nokia Lumia the player is pretty nice, does what it's supposed to. Has an equalizer with presets and manual, suggests Nokia MixRadio channels where locally played music can be found (great to find other good music) and shows background images of the playing band from the net. It's actually a very nice player.

Just if you compare it to a stone. if you compare it to a decent music player it sucks. but in regards of your other postings i sense you dont care about the rest anyways
I ended up dumping my 920 and going back to Android on a Samsung S3, and much happier now. Not just for the music player (though PowerAmp is awesome!), but for the horrendous lack of basic features. Too bad, I really wanted to like my Windows phone.
I also don't care for the music player apps available on the Lumia 920. I keep hoping for a Rockbox port - mostly because it supports all the codecs I have.
Great alternative for music player on wp

I play mostly local music stored on my phone. And for those uses musictastic is by far the best player I have found. Its free, reads playlists I create on my desktop from windows media player, looks great, shuffle fun too works as it should, and displays album art correctly. Definetly worth a try.
Anyone having issues playing movies where there's no sound? Every time I open a movie that's on my SDCard, I get an error message saying "Unsupported Audio Codec." However, the video plays fine.
Not sure if it's a Note 3 issue or not but when I had the Galaxy S4, the movies played fine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stock. I've never had a problem with the stock player but worst case scenario I can give MX a try.
Definitely seems to be a difference from the stock video player on the Note 2. My pirated mkv files with dolby 5.1 tracks indicate "unsupported audio codec" on my new Note 3 but played fine on my Note 2.
Fortunately, the files can still be served to my Sammy TV from the Note 3 and my surround receiver still gets the Dolby bits to decode.
Guess I'll use a different player for playing them on-device.

Was shocked to find that audio in regular Divx and mkv files don't even play on the Note 3, while they played fine on the Note 2. That was one of the most important features for me, god damnit.
The reason most, if not all, aftermarket players suck is they have BT audio lag. Only the stock apps have ever worked flawlessly for me. The video app on the Note 2 was fantastic.
---------- Post added at 04:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------
Here's the problem:
Note 3: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, Vorbis
Note 2: MP3, AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB/WB, FLAC, WAV, MIDI, OGG, AC-3
See AC3 support in the Note 3? Neither do I. It's a very popular audio codec, and Samsung (or Qualcomm) decided we didn't need it. Even the Nexus 4 supports AC3. This is god damn infuriating.
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:00 PM ----------
AT&T is even falsely advertising it with AC3 support: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-note-3-jet-black.html.
Same problem here. Very disappointed. Coming from the N2, and the Optimus G pro, both stock players played all my files with no issues.
The N3 player seems very stripped. I also have Mx player, but that does not support DLNA, which is very important to me.

sucks that the onboard player is so stripped down compared to the N2.
I am also disappointed in the stock player's lack of support for ac3, but I've discovered it can still be used as a source server to play mkv files on my phone to my Samsung TV and surround sound receiver.
While the audio track cannot be rendered by the player on-device, the Dolby bits are correctly sent to and seen by the Samsung TV via the wireless connection to my phone and then passed to the receiver by the TV.
This was my primary use case for the player software on my N2, so I'm not as bummed by this loss as some others may be.
I feel sure that somewhere some Samsung engineer will read this post and add "Break Dolby pass-through" to the to-do list for the next N3 software update.

Work around for now...
Download mx player from play store. Open mx player and go to settings/ decoder and scroll to the bottom and download custom codec that is recommended. Use a file manager like root explorer and extract the custom codec. Then go back to mx player settings/ decoder scroll to the bottom and install the custom codec then set mx player to use s/w decoder (local) and s/w audio then start the movie over and there ya go. Took me a minute to figure out but at least I can watch my movies with sound again. Good luck
