Anyone know a case that's little more than a thin plastic shell? Any TPU car would be too thick. I got a Quicksand case, but it's a mm thick (digital calipers read 1.06 mm). That's still too thick. Something less than 0.5 mm and hours up to the glad would be great.
I don't need any protection, I just hate the glossy plastic. I've got a Slickwrap, but it doesn't cover the edges and looks crappy. I would consider a skin or wrap that goes as far up the sides as the gray plastic line bisecting each edge.
I don't want to paint or sand down the plastic because I'm probably going to sell this phone if there's a Nexus phone this year.

It's exactly what you want. The grip is fantastic. The material has some weird matte/fabric finish and is the best grip case I ever had. On all phones. It adds zero bulk, trust me.
My 5 times more expensive and durably, but bulky as hell, Spigen Slim Armor is collecting dust in the drawer.

I don't understand. Do you realize I'm looking for thin cases? Almost all TPU cases are going to be too thick because TPU would be too susceptible to tearing if molded so thin.
Now find me the TPU case that is susceptible to tearing due to thinness and I'll probably buy it. Like I said, protection means nothing. I just hate coming into contact with the glossy plastic.
Have this and love it. Barely adds anything to the phone.

Yep I just got this in mail today ($9 on amazon)...awesome case and extremely thin. Likewise I wasn't looking for any real protection, just scratches and a better grip on phone.

So we just need one specific for the VZW version.
I have a similar material one for my moto x and it's the best lightest protection ever! Very light weight and protects against scratches and mild bumps.

For Verizon, just use the Incipio Feather case. That is what I have, looks just like all these posted, and is designed for the Verizon model specifically (you can even buy them in any Verizon store).
I've had my incipio feather case on since day 1. Still looks great. My phone has had a few nasty spills and never had any damage... even the case looks new. It has a soft "rubber" like coating on it, but the case itself it hard and snaps on. Never had a problem with it coming off (it is actually quite hard to come off. It also has a TINY TINY lip that when facedown, will keep the screen off the surface.

That's what I have, and it's slippery. It's nothing like the blue/green textured ones that we were discussing, which aren't (today) avail for the VZW version.
edit: will also add that the incipio has sharp edges at the corners. The other one is not sharp like the incipio.
Try Body Glove skin, not a case but textured, comes in metallic, wood, carbon fiber, etc finishes. Its should be useful gor what you want/need and it covers the edges.
Could we post some of the thinnest cases we've found? Like Rinke slim, etc..
I like the cases that are so thin with the tops and bottoms open, but they seem to be rare nowadays
Not sure if it's thin enough for you but I like the way this looks. I think the reason very think and open cases are so rare is that they barely offer any protection with large phones
This is crazy thin and with the price might as well order just for the hell of it...
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Case...Back-Case-For-Samsung-Galaxy/32398559531.html
The Ringke Slim is one of the tiniest cases around and it covers the top and bottom of the case with a good amount of protection. The Ulak clear slim case is also very thin and offers a shock proof protection with it's tpu sides and clear back.
I'm not looking for major drop protection. I like ultra thin cases to mainly protect the finish and camera lens when I lay my phone on random surfaces, as well as hiding some of the awful fingerprints and finger grease.
Thanks guys
The official Samsung case is by far the slimmest case. If you want to even call it a case,
I had one for my S6 Edge and its basically like nothing is on the phone and just protects the corners and back glass.
But its expensive

Does anyone know if the rubber-ish looking stuff on the top and bottom are grippy?
I like how the glass on the note5 is grippy to the hand, but slippery in the pocket/on cloth.
My worry is that the polycarbonate might be the opposite -- and always catch going into a tighter pocket.

I'm not sure about this specific case, but I know what you mean. The glass is grippy to my fingers but a polycarbonate incipio case I bought for it is very slick. I may have to return it.
I'm hoping that Orzly will make one. I have their frost thin case on my S6 and love it. Just enough to protect against scratches and thin enough to keep the "feel" .
So, I received 2 Rinke slim cases, clear and black. I have the Rinke Fusion as well.
Quick impressions.
Clear Rinke Fusion. It's ok, slightly bulky for me tho. Fits perfect, cutouts are where they should be. Case has an annoying piece of tape/plastic on the inside that was a PITA to remove. I'd say it's a 7/10.
Rinke Slim, Black. Perfect fit, hugs the contours of the phone perfectly. Cutouts are great, especially around the Spen. I feel like the fusion case made it slightly more difficult to remove the spen, the Slim doesnt.
Rinke Slim, clear. I really really wanna use this case, it's crystal clear and looks so good on the phone. Problem is, it doesn't fit perfectly like the black version. When you slightly squeeze the sides, you can feel the case move. Really lame.
I'm also using the Ringke SF Black Case and it's very thin based on my thinness standards. pics are below (i'm reposting pictures from my post at Android Central).

I somewhat agree. However, the glass is so slimy, finger-printy and slippery I think I will cover the back with a skin of some sort even though it's beautiful.

Reminds me of the GS3 with the smooth plastic. I think covering the beautiful glass is outweighed by the feel and the increased grip you get with a skin. I don't plan on skinning any other part of the phone; just the back. No other skin, no case because it's so beautiful.
Sent from my SM-N920T
I normally don't skin or put cases on my phone, but this phone is super slick in hand, especially when my hands are sweaty. I want at least a little bit of added grip from the skin so I'm not as likely to drop it.
I think we are all thinking the same thing here. Don't ruin this with a case, don't make it huge, don't even protect it. Just grip. To that end, which has more grip and does anyone know of a clear skin for the rear that just adds grip?
I got the Blue skin on order
I get MY blue note 5... well the back anyhow
Orderered. Delivery time... 3-6 weeks. ? Will probably put a case around it during that time. The back is just too slippery in this humid weather.
Might look into these too. In the mean time it's going in a case. 175$ insurance deductible is to rich for me right now.

More colors doesn't mean better quality. I've tried both dBrand and slick wraps and keep coming back to dBrand. Their skins are so much better. The material is better quality, the skins are cut better. It's a better product to me. Yes they may not have purple carbon fiber, but really.... Do you want purple carbon fiber?? Lol

They get their wraps from the same source so everyone is delusional thinking one has a clear advantage aside from value for deliverables. If you want back only skins get a dbrand, if you want full everything get the slickwraps it's better value. Both companies can make mistakes during the cutting process so don't listen to either one's marketing schemes.

I went ahead and ordered the Unicorn Beetle case, I'm having a hard time visualizing what skins will look like under the frosted back of the case. Figured with the case here I can at least look at that and go from there. I really like the black titanium skin from DBrand as well...
If you click the link you'll have all the info! Toast specializes in real wood skins. Adds less than 1mm thickness to phone -- and cases still fit just fine, albeit a bit more snug, but not enough to cause any issues for me whatsoever. The Spigen case is crystal clear, and looks real nice with the ebony wood and laser-etched 'nexus' logo.

Hey, I've been using my Poco for more than 3 months now and it's buck ass naked save for a screen protector (only because it ain't a gorilla graded display). I think you wouldn't need a case as it's high grade plastic and even on the off chance you drop it, there won't be much damage to the body (can't say the same for the display though ?). If you feel the phone might slip out of your hands and drop then I'd suggest slapping on some slick decals that would make your phone look cool as well as provide sufficient grip.
You can check out these 2 websites:
1. dbrand.com - they're the ones who started the decal game and still have it going strong. You can choose what kind of decal, colour and what part of the phone you want under the decal. They have some pretty sweet designs.
2. slickwraps.com - these guys came late in the game, but man oh man they're just amazing, you can go so far as to customise your skin with a personal photo and not just that, you can get your personalised skin in a glossy or matte finish! How cool is that!
As far screen protectors are concerned I wouldn't recommend using tempered glass protectors because they hamper the touch functionality. You can look for hydrogel protector and they're pretty neat if you ask me.
I hope that helps, cheers!!!

Karapaver wasn't any better, for me, than the spigen for protection, didn't look as nice, and offered no more protection for the front. The corner protrusions limit its car mounting options. I couldn't get this or the Ringke to sit properly in my brodit car mount. I either had to tighten the mount for the sides which made the case/phone difficult to remove or I tightened the mount for the corners and had the case rattle around cause it wasn't being secured properly in the mount.
Mileage may vary with other mounting options.

I'm sure that overseas shipping may be a limiting factor here. Unless these companies have UK distributors?

I live in Germany and they provide international shipping, you'll just have to keep an eye out for offers on shipping or discounts in general.
