Totally subjective, yeah?
Cases are pretty personal and subjective, right? That said, I've done this (see below). With the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case, which seems to be a popular choice. Simple and dead sexy, in my opinion of course.

I like the skin! Is that a DBrand or Slickwraps one?
I went ahead and ordered the Unicorn Beetle case, I'm having a hard time visualizing what skins will look like under the frosted back of the case. Figured with the case here I can at least look at that and go from there. I really like the black titanium skin from DBrand as well...
If you click the link you'll have all the info! Toast specializes in real wood skins. Adds less than 1mm thickness to phone -- and cases still fit just fine, albeit a bit more snug, but not enough to cause any issues for me whatsoever. The Spigen case is crystal clear, and looks real nice with the ebony wood and laser-etched 'nexus' logo.

On eBay I found an open package incipio dual pro in black for 7 bucks and free shipping!! This case fits so well and makes the power and volume buttons feel perfect!! All the other cases I've tried I end up accidentally hitting the side buttons a lot. Great case with minimal bulk.

Hey, on an unrelated note -- how do you like Pure Nexus ROM? I suppose ROMming is in my future, once I get used to stock 5.1.1 and decide what I do and don't like about it...
I've been on pure Nexus ROM now for 24 hours and so far so good. I do like all the customization I tend to try a new rom once a week. I just updated my nexus 7 2013 to 6.0 and and that new Google now home button feature is great.

I used to buy those cheap $3 cases for my phone... and found that I was buying a new one practically every 3 or 4 weeks... so I broke down and just got the otterbox, and haven't bought a new one since...

Never been a fan of Otterbox.... I find their cases too bluky and overkill on the protection. I have been using the Seidio Active case for over a year now and have had 0 issues as well. I only paid like $20 bucks as well. I just got email confirmation from Seidio that they are in production of an Active Case for the Nexus 7.

the pink is cute but the kickstand looks very cheap and only works one way.
my perfect case would be one that has a rotating adjustable height kickstand. The case should be hard shell and cover the front to protect the screen then be able to pull off and snap on the back to use as a stand..and store the screen cover.. I scratch the screen protector in my purse..
anyway great finds guys..

The prices are a little higher, but it's a relief to see some nice looking cases other after the zillions of horrible $10 faux-leather portfolio ones. I'm not sure which one I'll get yet, but I'm getting tired of the stock grey rubber one I got with the N7.
Heres a cheap alternative http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fosmon-Hybrid-TPU-Case-Cover-Skin-w-Kickstand-for-Google-Nexus-7-Black-/380459538154?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item589527d6ea#ht_3241wt_1399
Anyone know a case that's little more than a thin plastic shell? Any TPU car would be too thick. I got a Quicksand case, but it's a mm thick (digital calipers read 1.06 mm). That's still too thick. Something less than 0.5 mm and hours up to the glad would be great.
I don't need any protection, I just hate the glossy plastic. I've got a Slickwrap, but it doesn't cover the edges and looks crappy. I would consider a skin or wrap that goes as far up the sides as the gray plastic line bisecting each edge.
I don't want to paint or sand down the plastic because I'm probably going to sell this phone if there's a Nexus phone this year.

I don't understand. Do you realize I'm looking for thin cases? Almost all TPU cases are going to be too thick because TPU would be too susceptible to tearing if molded so thin.
Now find me the TPU case that is susceptible to tearing due to thinness and I'll probably buy it. Like I said, protection means nothing. I just hate coming into contact with the glossy plastic.
Have this and love it. Barely adds anything to the phone.

I have a similar material one for my moto x and it's the best lightest protection ever! Very light weight and protects against scratches and mild bumps.

For Verizon, just use the Incipio Feather case. That is what I have, looks just like all these posted, and is designed for the Verizon model specifically (you can even buy them in any Verizon store).
I've had my incipio feather case on since day 1. Still looks great. My phone has had a few nasty spills and never had any damage... even the case looks new. It has a soft "rubber" like coating on it, but the case itself it hard and snaps on. Never had a problem with it coming off (it is actually quite hard to come off. It also has a TINY TINY lip that when facedown, will keep the screen off the surface.

That's what I have, and it's slippery. It's nothing like the blue/green textured ones that we were discussing, which aren't (today) avail for the VZW version.
edit: will also add that the incipio has sharp edges at the corners. The other one is not sharp like the incipio.
Try Body Glove skin, not a case but textured, comes in metallic, wood, carbon fiber, etc finishes. Its should be useful gor what you want/need and it covers the edges.

If you are not opposed to skins there are pretty good ones. I like ArmorSuit MilitaryShield, it is completely transparent and a little springy and grippy. Skinomi and a few other companies make some with patterns.
I would suggest you to try out the Spigen Ultra hybrid series. Trust me, it adds a very slight layer to the sides but provides ultimate protection.
And the design looks classy on the black version, I have been using it and I like my phone better with that thing on rather than the naked phone.

I always wanted to know, do these skins actually provide any kind of protection? Or will break the phone apart if it drops and are made just for the design aspect?

I'm using the skin with an aluminum bumper so it is mainly for scratch protection as drop protection is going to be mainly coming from the bumper. But the front skin is pretty thick and adds a little cushion to the screen itself. I cannot imagine it helps on a major face first drop onto concrete but I bet it will help with keeping the screen from being scratched up during a face first drop onto a softer surface like linoleum or from a sliding impact.
I also have the spigen, that was the first case I ordered and with the completely transparent back it is not invasive and looks very nice. I have the gold S6 and got the gunmetal spigen which kind of tones down the goldness which is good sometimes for me.

Reminds me of the GS3 with the smooth plastic. I think covering the beautiful glass is outweighed by the feel and the increased grip you get with a skin. I don't plan on skinning any other part of the phone; just the back. No other skin, no case because it's so beautiful.
Sent from my SM-N920T
I normally don't skin or put cases on my phone, but this phone is super slick in hand, especially when my hands are sweaty. I want at least a little bit of added grip from the skin so I'm not as likely to drop it.
I think we are all thinking the same thing here. Don't ruin this with a case, don't make it huge, don't even protect it. Just grip. To that end, which has more grip and does anyone know of a clear skin for the rear that just adds grip?
I got the Blue skin on order
I get MY blue note 5... well the back anyhow
Orderered. Delivery time... 3-6 weeks. ? Will probably put a case around it during that time. The back is just too slippery in this humid weather.
Might look into these too. In the mean time it's going in a case. 175$ insurance deductible is to rich for me right now.

Clarify?
Any reason why its better? Personally Dbrand's carbon fiber feels better, with more depth. But maybe thats just me.

More colors doesn't mean better quality. I've tried both dBrand and slick wraps and keep coming back to dBrand. Their skins are so much better. The material is better quality, the skins are cut better. It's a better product to me. Yes they may not have purple carbon fiber, but really.... Do you want purple carbon fiber?? Lol

They get their wraps from the same source so everyone is delusional thinking one has a clear advantage aside from value for deliverables. If you want back only skins get a dbrand, if you want full everything get the slickwraps it's better value. Both companies can make mistakes during the cutting process so don't listen to either one's marketing schemes.
I'm looking for a good thin, clear case to use with my Dbrand skin.
The case I have now fits a little too tight and the buttons are difficult to press. Its linked below for reference.

Thanks for the pics! How does it fit inside the case with the skin? Do the buttons function like they did without the skin, or is there a difference?
My case was great without the skin, but now the buttons are too hard to press.

I haven't noticed a difference with the case on, just be VERY careful putting it on if you don't want to damage it

Did you ever use the case without the skin, or have you only used it with the skin?

i have tried Orzly Clear Case and HotCool Clear Case and i feel the Orzly one is thinner and feels more like the phone and both have about the same clarity, also the buttons don't feel as stiff, i also ordered some foreign one which claims to be even thinner, i don't care much about protection i'd rather have thinner b/c its mainly to keep my dBrand Skin in tact, i will report back once i get the new one and see how it is

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Just want to preserve the skin and also protect the camera hump. I ordered the orzly flex case hoping the buttons won't be stiff. If they are I'll return it.
I'll be waiting on your feedback on the one you just ordered!

yeah the one i got was not very good at all, u can feel the seams on the side and it was frosted in the back so it was not clear, but it was only 2.00 shipped from china lol, i still like the Orzly one best so far.

Lol not a huge loss. I can actually feel the seams on the side of mine so I hope the orzly one feels better. Thanks again for the advice.

u can still feel the seams on the orzly, but not too bad, i think u will be pleased with it
So I got the Orzly Flexi Case and it seems literally identical to the Love Ying clear case I already had. As a result, the buttons are identically difficult to press with the phone and dbrand skin being used. Oh well. I'll just have to get used to it.

Seems like the hotcool one is the thinnest available. I just wish TPU didn't yellow.

Thanks for the video. I see you have tried a few cases. Which one overall do you like best?
I was all set on the cruzerlite case as I have one on my current LG G3 and it's been great to be fair but the orzly fusion case looks nice too. Dont want anything too bulky.
