[Q] Random "Free Music" app appeared on my touchpad in place of Google Play Store
My Touchpad was charging today and I just went to check on it. I unlocked the device and sitting right where the Google Play Store app shortcut used to be on my homescreen was an app called "Free Music" and it had the old itunes icon. I accidentally clicked on it as I was trying to long press it and remove it from my homescreen. It launched the Google play store as if the real app shortcut was there. After I removed it from my homescreen I checked the app drawer and did not see the app.
I am running CM 9 Alpha 2. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there malware on my TP, or a Virus? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Me too
I havent checked my touchpad with CM9A2, but my Acer Iconia with CM9-ported had this appear too.
I did not have this 3/8 afternoon, and had my tablet off yesterday night 3/8, and turned it on today 3/9, and it appeared shortly after.
Very strange and suspicious to have an itunes logo-ed shortcut "self-install"
Hope some more people can shed some insight into this.
Are we android user's getting hacked/compromised? (beyond what Google is already sucking off our tablets)
Whew
Okay, at least someone else had this happen. Now we just need to figure out what it is. Did you notice anything else funky? I couldn't find anything else that was weird, however I noticed this weird chinese app all the way in the bottom of my "All" apps list and I have since disabled it out of caution. Let me know if you have this app.
Did you just remove the app from the homescreen or open it also like I did? I really can't think of any app I installed that could have done this except one. This "watch TV" app, that I also uninstalled since just in case. I hope someone can explain this to us.
I just removed it from the homescreen (luckily did not click it to open by accident)
I dont have any Chinese/Foreign language apps on my All Apps.
I also dont have that "Watch TV" app.

I got a response from the Iconia forum, and I found my Pin to Pintrest App that allowed push installs. Do you have the same app?
Interesting
I don't have that app, but it could have been a different app that had the same type of air install thing. I uninstalled a bunch of apps that I didn't use that much, one of them might have had this feature enabled. Ill download that detector and see if any app on my tablet has that.
Thanks
Can someone figure out what's wrong and give me a solution ASAP.
If you go into setting and then into the apps folder, you can click on and stop and then disable any apps you don't use, their is a guide somewhere that gives a list of apps you can stop, as you don't want to disable a critical system app, maybe somebody know where it is.

yeah if I could get a link to that guide that would be great
Download Greenify from the Play store. After installing simply add those offending apps (Google Maps is key example of one) to the greenify list within the app and it will suspend activity from that app when you exit and thus it won't produce any wakelocks.
Most effective tool I have ever used for controlling wakelocks and improving battery life.

Im not rooted, and do you think google now is the real problem because since the recent maps update I haven't seen "maps" listed as a wakelock.
I found the list for the one x, but i am sure there is one for the one m7 somewhere.

I don't use Now because I did find it was a big drain on the battery. Also if I remember correctly with Now enabled it would turn on the gps at regular intervals to record your location even if the user has GPS turned off.
Also personally, I feel that you should root any android device that has an easy root method and can be reset back to stock. With this phone, it is easy to do both.
A bit of a list for the One M7 here.

Was almost about to start a new thread until I saw this one. This is a screenshot from yesterdays battery but do my wakelocks look excessively high? I just downloaded the wake lock app I can't really post screens of that the data wouldn't be too accurate but here are yesterdays wake locks.
What would you recommend. I am about to download greenify now

Those wakelocks are off the charts compared to mine for a day. Which rom are you running? I guess you may have Google Now active as your google stuff is crazy. If you don't use them you should remove or freeze: Twitter, facebook, hangouts, google+
Greenify will help for sure. In a full day ~18 hours, I usually have about 500 application wakelocks (same report from GSam) and over 300 of them are my corporate email client. Android system and Google Services are about 100 per day.
Greenify really helps, but a good custom rom/kernel combo is the key.
I use ViperOne and ElementalX kernel and I overclock CPU to 1.9 and GPU to 450 and I have best battery life I have ever had on the One with any rom. I easily can go 28 hours of medium use with about 5+ hours of screen on time in a single charge.

Yeah the Google services wakelocks really do look crazy high how do I know what apps to greenify. I honestly have a minimal amount of apps as my phone is still pretty new and havent gotten all my apps downloaded.
I cannot remember if I had Google now on for that day or not but now I have it turned off and am about to get greenify. As you can see I was only getting 12 hours away from the charger and I think the wakelocks are maybe what were preventing me from getting closer to ~19 I am on viper 1.2.1 stock Kernel

I don't know which wakelocks you're getting with GS, but I was getting some bad location related wakelocks. I use Google Now and turning off Location Services altogether wasn't an option. So what I did, after searching the BBS threads was to force stop and clear data on these apps:
Google Services Framework
Google Play Services
Maps
Google+
Then I deleted my Google account and signed back in. Whatever was going on, that did the trick.
Hey guys, so I just got the S5 a couple of days ago and I love it. However, I'm having some problems with the push notifications of certain apps not coming through, yet they do easily on my Nexus 7. They weren't a problem on my Nexus 5, but I have no idea why it's not working properly on a brand new phone like the S5. Each of the apps, like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to name a few, are all listed to push notifications and they're set in the main Android settings, so I have no idea. Anyone else have the same kind of issues like me?
To note, I've already factory resetted my phone several times, cleaned out the data, caches, etc and still no use. I am rooted though, but I doubt that should make a huge difference, right? And right now, I'm not using Xposed framework, but before when I first noticed the issues, I was. Thanks in advance!
Taking a longshot here...but have you updated that Samsung Push Service app through the Play Store (and all other apps for that matter)?

if you used Titatium backup to restore any apps that use push, that could be your issue. I restored facebook, instagram , snapchat etc and the push never works when i restore, you need to clear the app out, and just login new for each push app.

Yeah, I did that initially, but that was the first time I got the phone. Now, I've been clearing out the caches and data for each app, uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the Play Store, but still some of the apps don't have the push capability unless I was just in the app or still in it. Some of my problem apps are GroupMe, Snapchat and Instagram. When I had my Nexus 5, that wasn't the issue at all.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this issue?

Check out TB Restore Fixer on the app store. I noticed that when I did Titanium Backup restore, some of my apps were not working correctly and I couldn't reach certain parts of my storage, etc. After I ran it, it seemed to have straightened everything out. (Requires root, of course)
Hope this fixes your problems!
Same problem
I first started having this issue a week ago. I checked all the setting, factory reset, and I ended up switching out the Galaxy 5 through Sprint yesterday. E-mails and FB messenger app was working on data while I was driving home and I thought the problem was fixed. I reinstalled all the apps I was using and over night let the phone charge. When I woke up this morning I noticed two of the folders I made were removed and a widget for S Health replaced the folders spot. Thinking nothing of it I removed the widget and made it to work this morning to find out I had 3 e-mails waiting, a notification on facebook, and another message through FB messenger that did not come through this morning. I am receieving notifications if im on wifi but not through the data now and this is a new phone. I think this may have something to the 4.4.4 release but this is bugging me. Any new suggestions?
I have seen issues with sprint where phone calls are fine but data wont work in certain areas of the city unless you turn data roaming on it apears that the signals are ok for voice but not for data in thoes areas
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Data roaming is checked on, I did go in today and saw a roaming guard on data and turned it off but nothing yet. It's been two months and my push notifications are still not working. Figure I'd come here and bump again.
Im having same issue looks like no one has a solution for this... I get all my notifications while im on wifi but soon as im on data i stop getting some notifications. Very frustrating.
Hi,
since the last update to 5.0.1 I'm experiencing problems when running apps on the watch. For example the integrated stopwatch or the heart rate monitor. Both apps shortly appear but then disappear immediately. The screen is then kind of "locked" on the watch face and can be freed by using the hardware button.
I had this problem with a app I wrote myself, too. I saw that the app actually crashes after a while because the onStart/onStop functions are not called in the right order. This sounds like a serious bug to me which is not related to my app. It also does not happen with 4.4W2. Then I found that the internal apps show a very similar behaviour like I wrote above.
Resetting the device did not help.
Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, I can confirm that I had the same problem yesterday. Uninstalled all third party watchfaces but no success. Then suddenly I saw a message on the watch that google play services crashed. After that the problem was gone and did not come back. I now the description does not really help, but it confirms at least that you are not the only one with that problem.
Ok I'm new here, signed up just to get help with this, so here's my problem.
Just got a new phone, a Nexus 6 (not the 6p). Upgraded to Android 6.0. Previously had a Note 3 running kitkat. On my Note 3 if I got new posts to a thread I'm subscribed to on a forum I'm a member of, new messages on Instagram or new messages on kik my phone notified me that I had the message. The app didn't have to be running for this to work. With my Nexus 6 however that isn't the case!
Text messages, voicemails and emails all work fine and notify my just the way they should, it's only the 3rd party apps that don't work. I know it's not the apps because like I mentioned it's ALL the installed 3rd party apps doing this! It has to have something to do with the Nexus 6 or the Android 6.0 or a combination of the 2.
I scoured the web looking for answers, including this forum, and came up empty so here's the information that people usually ask for:
1) My phone isn't on silent or do not disturb mode
2) My volume is turned up
3) Sound and notification settings-App notifications are normal and allow peaking for the apps in question. Treat as priority if not on because I don't want the notifications when I'm sleeping but this shouldn't keep them from coming in normally when the volume isn't turned off.
4) Settings-Apps for each app the notifications ARE NOT blocked and allow peaking is on.
5) I enabled ALL requested permissions for each app just to make sure a blocked permission wasn't the problem.
6) I white listed each app from battery optimization to ensure this wasn't causing the problem.
7) Battery saver is not turned on.
8) Push notifications are turned on and allowed for each app in the settings on the app and the notifications sound in the app settings is my default notification, which is set because it's the same one I get when the app is running.
Someone please help! This is driving me crazy. Like I mentioned I get the notifications if I have the app running in the background but if the app is off I don't. On my last phone I didn't have to leave the app running 24/7, draining my battery, to get the notifications! Is there some way to fix this????
Also, I already wiped the system data partition.

Are you using a custom ROM or did you take an OTA to get to Android 6.0? I also wanted to ask if you were getting the proper notifications from using lollipop 5.1.1 while you were on it? If you took the OTA I'd suggest wiping app cache/data for kik and that MIGHT restore the kik functionality. If it works for that one app it may work for others.
You haven't installed a third-party notification system at all have you? Like Teslaunread or anything else that requests notification access on your device?

I know you said battery saver is not turned on now, but did you ever have it on? I ask because ever since I turned it on for a few hours (then turned it off and kept it off), 3rd-party notifications have been wonky.
No custom ROM, I took OTA to get to 6.0 but I didn't install any of the APP's prior to getting to 6.0 so I don't know if they would have worked with 5.1.1 or not unfortunately.
I do have Nova Launcher and use Teslaunread with that but I had that on my previous phone and it didn't interfere with any of my notifications coming through.
And yes the battery saver was on a couple times when the battery got low.
Ahhh see you are making a misconception. The app has to be running to get notifications. At least the service does. When you killed them with your old device it only removed them from your view. It didn't really close them out. Unlike stock Android. If you kill the app then it is really killed. Killing the app will also stop the service which prevents your notifications from coming in.
Your best bet is to leave it be.

Actually leaving it running in the back ground still won't give me the notification, I only get the notification when I click on the app and open it, even if it is listed as running in the background. I found that out because I did start leaving the apps running so I'd get the notifications, only to find out that didn't fix my problem like I thought it would.

Do you have greenify or any apps that effect doze installed?
Could have been an issue with the OTA, you could flash the Stock 6.0 image via Fastboot, it may be worth trying PNF on android play, i use the root version so not sure on the non root but it's stops delayed notifications.

I used greenify w/root on my last phone but not this one. I don't think any of my apps would affect doze and turned doze off for the apps I've had trouble with to try and make sure doze wasn't the issue. Still not luck.

I may try those option and see if they help. This is driving me crazy, I figured a newer operating system would mean a better android experience but so far I was a lot happier with kitkat than I have been with marshmallow.
