[Q] Keyboard Dock Messing up screen when closed - Asus Transformer TF701

As per title really.. Over the last couple of months, I've noticed a weird "ring" shape appear in the centre of my TF701's display that affects touch input. And it only appears when docked to the keyboard and closed for any length of time (its as if the dock closed position isn't quite right and keys are pressing up into the screen). I've checked my dock and looks and seems to function ok, but I'm a bit concerned that this is a relatively recent thing. I should say that after a few minutes, the display seems to correct itself, but this isn't normal behaviour...
Has anyone noticed or experienced similar?

I've experienced the same thing. I assumed it was because the surface of my tablet wasn't perfectly flat but instead slightly concave. I get the same problem if I put my tablet in a certain case in my backpack without the keyboard dock -- this apparently puts pressure on the screen with the same result.
I've tried putting a thin microfiber cloth between the dock and the screen when closing it, but the problem still occurs. When it happens I don't consider it a big deal though -- after a relieving the pressure, the screen returns to normal in a minute or two. To eliminate the problem I now usually carry the tablet and the dock in separate cases in my backpack, because I don't use the dock most of the time.

Run-over Tilt repaired LCD scree but still not working properly...

Hello all.
So, long story as short as possible:
My Tilt got run over, LCD screen was busted but I could still make and receive calls by sliding it open, hitting the call button and using the keyboard to dial and 'enter' to connect.
I was also still able to connect to the phone via bluetooth from my mac, as well as syncing it on my PC partition.
Eventually, I think I hit too many random buttons and turned the phone off or something as I could no longer get it to dial out this way. I was always getting the flashing green and blue lights though.
After some research (and un-won auctions on eBay) I decided to see if popping in a new LCD screen would fix my situation.
I installed the new LCD last night, and the machine is almost back to living, however, I now have the current problems:
When the phone boots into 'normal' mode, the screen is display is very truncated. It doesn't display the full HTC updated today screen and won't respond to touch. It says 'no service' but wi-fi seems to connect. If I slide it open, the keyboard lights up but doesn't respond, neither do the front keys. Also, I get only a solid orange light in the upper left LED.
If I boot the phone into 'Safe Mode' it responds to touch, connects to the AT&T network, connects to Wi-Fi, etc. The front keys still do not do anything, and when I slide it open the keyboard does not light up or respond. Also, I get both the green light in the upper right and blue in the upper left.
Another thing, when I slide the phone open and closed there's a slight ripple in the middle of the phone like something is 'pressing' on it from the back.
Sorry for the novel. Any help is appreciated. I'm considering 'clearing storage' and returning it to factory settings or flashing the ROM. I've taken it apart and put it together like four times now, checking, double checking and triple checking connections.

Sounds like one of the headers isnt fully seated in the display region. IIRC there are two that I had to deal with with my 10min LCD swap routine
Yeah, I think you're basically describing symptoms of having put the phone back together wrong except that it's interesting it responds in this 'Safe Mode' and interesting that it would happen after four retries
It's probably going to need a hard reset then! You might want to check nothing has been bent, warped mountings/plastic could be the cause of the screen ripple issue.
Were there any active components on the touch film for the display? (Assuming you have replaced that too with the LCD, or that they're one whole unit) if that is the case, they may be different, newer revisions? Really grasping at straws there though; at the end of the day, the poor phone has been mauled by a wheel... best of luck!!
Thanks for the thoughts! I guess I could try and break it down again. As far as I could tell, everything looked like the phone in the disassembly directions; nothing appeared unduly bent or mangled.

I'll google it, but what 'headers' are we talking about? The small metal bits that seem to touch the upper outside edge of the LCD screen?
Would an improperly seated header cause the other symptoms? Unresponsive other buttons (keyboard, front keys) and connectivity issues with the network?

I got a new LCD and digitizer (is that what you mean by other active components?).

Any cable that attaches to the circuit boards, re-seat every one you can find. One faulty connection can cause a lot of problems. I have a similar problem with a button on my PSP but im to lazy to fix it.

Please Help!! Landscape issues

Alright, so my problem is that when I slide out the keyboard to type something in, it won't actually rotate the screen. It isn't an issue with the ROM because I have flashed several different ones and it is the same no matter what.
What happens is that I slide out the keyboard, the screen freezes to whatever it was when I slid it out. I type whatever and when I close the phone it just loads up the text that I had typed in. So the keyboard itself works but I can't see what I typed until I close the phone again which is pretty inconvenient. Does anyone know of a way I can solve this? PLEEEAASSSE! help is much appreciated.
unfortunately it looks (almost 100%) like your ribbon cable between the circuit board and the screen needs replacing.
Your symptoms are EXACTLY what mine did. Then it got gradually worse and the screen ended up turning black on sliding it open.
I've replaced the ribbon cable, with some protection on the area that gets worn and so far the phone is fab again!

obviously if your phone is under warranty it needs to go back, but once repaired it WILL do it again at some point. Terrible oversight in the design of an otherwise great handset.

[Q] Touchscreen issues. Replace now or wait?

Since day one, I've had touchscreen issues. When the charger is plugged in, the keyboard is unusable. One touch triggers keys all over the place faster than I could ever touch the screen. Unplugging the charger fixes that issue.
After a while, phantom presses start happening. If an app supports multitouch zoom, it becomes impossible to scroll instead of zooming. Keeping the screen clean seems to delay the problem from happening. If the problem presents, just cleaning the screen won't help. I have to turn the display off and back on for any effect. I've heard putting on a screen protector helps with this issue, but I haven't had a chance get one. If the screen protector just masks the issue, that doesn't seem like a good fix.
Should I try to get a replacement Nook Color now that doesn't have these issues or should I wait until the last month of my warranty to see if I can get more developed hardware? There doesn't seem to be a consensus if these issues are hardware or software.

That must be frustrating. Mine does not behave this way at all (though I've only had it for 4 days). If you bought it in the store, I'd exchange it. If you bought it via the BN ebay store, I'd try the screen protector first as I hear it's quite an ordeal returning it via ebay.
This us a very common issue. It has something to do with sensitivity of the screen increasing greatly when the unitbis charging or the screen brightness is way up. I just chage mine at night and don't worry about it.
I was having a lot of problems with phantom touches -- I even replaced my 2nd NC just to get another one that had the same issue. I ended up putting on a B&N anti-glare screen protector and haven't witnessed any phantom touches since then.

Happens a lot to me even while unplugged. Known issue. Until I pick up a B&N screen protector I find locking the device and a quick wiping of the screen with a microfiber or any soft cloth (my shirt works in a pinch) removes moisture and oil build-up that is causing the uber-sensitive digitizer to register phantom touches.

A multi-touch issue masquerading as a touch sensitivity issue?

Ok, so I thought I was having a touch sensitivity problem on my Nexus 4, because often a touch or a swipe would go unrecognized...
Then I realized I was noticing it especially in these two situations:
-Turning wifi slider switch on/off
-Swiping back to a previous tab in chrome
Turns out, what was going on was when I reached that far with the thumb, my palm was touching the curved edge of the screen, making it think I was already touching with a different finger. This "numbed" the screen from my intended touch until I shifted my hand slightly, releasing the unintended multi-touch situation. This made the issue seem sporadic.
I am not saying this is what all other people are experiencing, I am just putting it out there in case someone else is unknowingly doing the same thing. I could also imagine typing errors on the far side of the keyboard for people with certain hand shapes.
It seems almost unavoidable due to the thin bezel and rounded edge, but I would think problem could be avoided with some clever "palm touch near edge" recognition code, but until then I just have to get used to not gripping the phone so tight.

I think that might be the case also. In some instances, it seems like I can't tap on the screen, but it can swipe and if I reposition my hand, it will work.

Question S Pen Inconsistency at S8 Ultra Edges - Normal?

I recently purchased a Tab S8 Ultra and it's been great so far. However, I noticed that the S Pen doesn't work consistently at the edges of the tablet, particularly the 'bottom' edge where the keyboard connector is.
I initially observed this when I tried to click the 'home' navigation button with the pen, but the click would not register. Repeated attempts to click were met with failed responses more often than registered clicks. This was with the tablet in landscape mode and the taskbar enabled - so the navigation buttons were concentrated at the bottom right of the screen. With the tablet rotated to portrait mode, however, the buttons were responsive and worked as expected. I tested this in Samsung Notes as well. It seems to be common for small 'dead spots' to appear when drawing along the edge. The thing is, when making a pass back towards those spots, they can sometimes be drawn over. These spots are generally in the same area, but the pens' ability to function over these regions seems random. See examples.
I assume this has to do with the magnets around the sides of the tablet interfering with the display/pen EMR technology, but it's odd that it is inconsistent. If the tablet is using permanent magnets at the bottom, one would expect the effects of their magnetic field to be present at all times. It would also be a pretty major design flaw if the pen doesn't consistently work with the navigation buttons in one of their default locations as well.
Has anyone noticed similar behavior with their S8 Ultra (or any S8 series tablet for that matter)? Do you think I have a defective unit?
Make sure you have not turned on disable gestures and buttons when using s pen. That will make so when you use s pen the home button and such won't take affect when touching them with the pen. So no it has nothing to do with magnets for keyboard. Since i tried now with my s pen and it's registering fine.

Im facing the same issue infact my s pen doesn't work properly in the middle of the screen also. If i press it too hard then it seems to work fine. It started happening a month ago can someone please suggest what i should do ?
Also if it take it to the service center will they replace the device ?

I have the exact same problem + it also happpes in the top edge not just the bottom ,,
As you said home button doesn't work with s pen but other buttons ( back , recent , screenshot , power off ) works instantly without any miss , which is weird
But in other scenarios , not home screen , like photopea.com ; the "adding layer" button ( which is at the bottom edge almost at the same place of home button ) doesn't work with s pen
Another example; in adobe lightroom the top edge have the same problem, it doesn't respond when tapping ir drawing on it , but it Does when starting the drawing in a closer area from the middle then moving the s pen to the edge , in this case it works , which is very weird

If your issues are to the right of the front-facing camera, maybe they have to do with the S Pen magnets?
I ultimately decided to exchange the tablet. My new one doesn't have any of my aforementioned problems. Also, the issues had nothing to do with the gestures option - the dead spots existed with gestures on/off.
Although the issue is solved, the root cause is still unknown. I'm starting to consider if the problems I had were due to a case. For a short period of time I had a Speck Balance Folio on my first Tab S8 Ultra. It was a nice case but I had to remove it after the first day because the cases magnets were creating huge dead spots on the screen. The case had a pretty large magnet spanning the lower half of the tablet, so maybe it was strong enough to permanently alter the in-built tablet magnets? I never drew on the edges of the screen until after I removed the case, so there was no way to know if the issue existed beforehand.
I currently have the official Samsung Protective Standing cover on my new tablet, and while it does have two small magnets near the edges, I have no issues using any part of the screen with the S Pen.
I guess to answer my own question in the post, and to possibly help anyone reading this in the future:
Your tablet should not be having issues near the edges of the screen.
Avoid all third party cases if possible, unless they are confirmed to be magnet-free (e.g. Supcase Unicorn Beetle and Poetic Turtleskin - It's a shame there are no magnet-free folio cases with decent protection).

The problem ( in lightroom ) happens in the left side of the cameras
I have the official Samsung bookcover keyboard , i removed it but the home button stil didn't respond , then i thought what will happen if i try from a different angle ? And that's what i did , i used the s pen as its top is heading to the cameras not to my side , and it worked ! Home button responded in every single try ,,,, then i placed back the kickstand piece of the bookcover and did the same with the s pen , and it also worked with no miss , so i think it's not the magnets' fault , it's something in the angle of the pen ,,,, note that i tried the normal way of using it ( when the top of the s pen is heading to me ) and rotate it many times and touch the home button , didn't work , so this probably confirms that it's a matter of angle detection not dead spots or magnet thing
Also , the top left edge responded when swiping down to bring the quick setting , so maybe lightroom app is programmed to not detect the edge's touch in order to prevent any accident touching when handing the device
So i guess there're no big concerns here , we can live with that
Generally speaking, Samsung tablets have always had issues with covers that use magnets to hold the flap closed against the screen as they are too strong for the inbuilt algorithms to compensate for. The Spen itself is nothing but a magnet whose movement is detected by these algorithms. The magnet flaps interfere with that.
I have had ZERO issues since I switched to a cover that uses an elastic band to hold the flap closed against the screen. It has magnets, sure, but they're tiny and only for the lock/unlock functionality, not to physically hold the flap against the screen.
