My wife and I have the same 2013 Moto X (XT1053), both on Consumer Cellular, APNs set the same and both use the paid version of Textra on which we have the same settings. We can both send and receive MMS messages but she keeps getting a text message from Textra saying "Can't get MMS - Check Textra --> MMS settings --> APN" She has probably gotten this text 6 or 7 times today already and yet she has successfully received and sent MMS messages today. I'm guessing this is either a CC or Textra problem but posted this here in case someone else might have gotten the same message and figured out how to fix it.

Hello there. At&t user here. I have been using at&t for a while and can't switch carriers, and was wondering if anyone could solve this dilemma for me.
I need long messages to get merged to one message for the recipient, which would probably best be suited by having them converted to mms.
I was wondering if the moto x has this feature, as it is the one phone I am looking at on at&t, or if anyone knows an app that can do this, and if I could install this on the moto x unrooted.
Handcent for example, merges them into one and converts to mms, but it needs the sms to be at least 3 sms's long before it does that, so that ones that are between 160-320 characters still get split. I know that gosms doesn't allow this either. This is work-related, so if anyone could help me I would be forever thankful.

I have a stock, unrooted moto x on verizon, but I imagine the settings in the stock messaging app would be the same. There is an option to use MMS for Group Messaging that states "Use MMS to send a single message when there are multiple recipients". Maybe just adding your own number along with the intended recipient's and sending the long message as a group message would be an easy fix? SImilar to copying yourself in on an email.
Edit: Just tested this idea and it works. I sent a long message to myself and another recipient and it automatically sent as a single MMS. Did not receive split messages on either phone, so this could be a workaround for you.
I have a branded and rooted Nexus 6. Everything is working fine. I'm using the default Nxtgenphone APN. No problem with SMS messaging or group messaging as MMS.
I'm trying to send and receive picture MMS. Using the Messenger app, I get a cannot send message; tap to retry. Switching to Hangouts gets me a MMS message cannot be stored.
Anyone have this problem and can offer a solution?
For now. I'll say this problem has gone away. I rebooted and all is well.
MMS not working properly
Had the same problem when i try to send a picture message on my n6 i could receive but cant send them on the android app i installed textra and i could send mms again thats weird
Swap your Sim card , had the same issue on T-Mobile.
I had issues with mms on Straight Talk with AT&T sim. I disabled stock messenger and I installed the CM12 stock messenger which looks practically the same and now mms works with no issues. Here is the link for the direct download. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2PiSOTXR691dUpwdjBUcnkxSms/edit
Got my Nexus 6 today. I'm on T-Mobile. I set my hangouts to be my default sms app. No matter who I send a text to, it says error message not sent. If I send a normal hangout message to another hangout user its fine. Is their a known issue with hangouts and 5.0 or something?
Same issues here. I am trying everything. Had issues since day 1, but haven't had time to look into it. Sprint Nexus 6 here.

I do know there was an update for the regular messenger app. Not sure if that's the problem or not but worth a check.
I switched carrier settings from lte to global and all my mms messages just flooded in at once. I can now send pic and group mms in hangouts and still have the same lte signal. Hopefully this solves your issue!
Just following up, my issues returned while i was out last night. I switched to 3g and again received a flood of incoming mms. Its frustrating to say the least.
I got my Moto X back in October and it seems to be working fine until maybe a couple of weeks ago sending a MMS with Hangouts as text takes quite while a while and sometimes it doesn't send at all.I got a new Sim back in middle of October because sometimes I was getting any calls or if I would call someone they wouldn't get it or texts.Any suggestions so I fix this?
Check your APN's in Hangouts.
If u can switch to the Google Messenger app, do it. I did. Works way better.
Are you sending MMS or Hangout messages? Hangouts and MMS tend to not work well together.
Thanks guys, yeah using Google Messenger and it's awesome!
I have a T Mobile Nexus 6. I've been using Textra for SMS and Hangouts for, well, hangouts. Now that Textra wants me to pay or else they'll start showing me ads, I want to use Hangouts exclusively. When I set Hangouts as my default SMS app, everything merges correctly. I have a group text thread that when I send a message to, it shows up as sending 8 times, once to each recipient. However, when I receive replies, they come in separately, making it impossible to follow the thread of the conversation.
Any ideas?
i use the google messanger app for texting, im on tmobile, and group texts work fine.
Make sure under the sms settings in hangouts that group messages are being sent as MMS. I believe this is turned off by default.

In hangouts settings, under SMS>advanced, do you have "Group messaging" box ticked? Also, "Enable merged conversations"?
I don't have a "Group Messaging" box. Here's a screenshot. http://i.imgur.com/x5cr5ka.png
I've double-checked my APN settings, I feel like I may be missing something very obvious, as I know I used to use group messaging with Hangouts with no problem, before I started using textra.

Ok, I think I figured it out. For some reason, my phone couldn't read my phone number from the sim card. If i went into my phone settings, under "my number" it said "unknown". I called Tmobile, they sent an update to my phone. Rebooted, went into settings, my number was there, and when I went back to my Hangouts settings, the "group mms" setting was now there, checked, and I think that'll do the trick.
