So I rooted my device and have experienced no issues, save one... I chose to use the Samsung mail client rather than gmail, I can't stand the gmail ui. Well, post root my email icon opens my phone/dialer app. I've been browsing the file structure but haven't located it yet. I've got a thanks button at the ready if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Edit: Issue resolved itself however something similar occurred with the amazon app. Seems minor enough but I'll post more if the behavior continues.
I have been having weird issues happening in gmail. Couldn't add any attachment. It just force closes. USA Today seems to force close. Everything was fine again when I reboot. I would get random force closes, but every time after reboot, things seem to fix themselves.
You might want to wipe cachecache or do a reset to resolve these types of issues

I have been having a continuous but random problem on Cyanogen's builds, was hoping it would be fixed...
Occasionally I will not receive texts from my girlfriend who's on Verizon. This is extremely frustrating because she thinks I'm ignoring her or something.
I also will sometimes receive a Notification of a text, but not be able to access the text. Like, I'll click on it, and I'll see the previous texts, but the one I saw in the Notification bar won't show up at the bottom. This problem is both in ChompSMS and the regular Messaging app.
I have had the Notification problem with other people as well, but so far, it seems like the 'missing texts' problem happens only with my girlfriend's texts. She doesn't miss my texts, I miss hers.
I have dgAlert Classic and ChompSMS, I will be disabling them one by one and see if that's my problem instead of CyanogenMod. But just checking to see if anyone else has had this problem.
i had this same problem, fort it was my phone, i use sms popup, that pop ups with the message, but i don't get the original notification on the pull down bar, and no LED light
That's a workaround, but is there any actual -fix- for this?
Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. What SMS app do you use, or do you use the included Messaging app?
Just wanted to add I experience this issue too. I use a widget that displays my latest message, and it shows the latest message there but occasionally there will be no notifications and the message will only appear in the widget, no where else. My fix, which im currently experimenting with, is using the default Mms.apk, not the modified one. I will post results soon.
That is a good idea, let us know what the result is!
If you can get no missing messages/notifications for 3 days without reboot, I'll be impressed and try the same myself.
Well, no luck. Default Mms.apk still has the same problems.
I've had it happen once where I was in Market, got an SMS notification, and pressed Back a bunch of times to get to Home screen. Then I looked at the notification and clicked, but there was no message.
THEN WHO WAS PHONE?
Nah but, maybe it's pressing Back a lot of times? I don't know. I wish it would get looked at and fixed, it seems like everyone just ignores it if I bring this up.
Long time lurker first time poster.
I had a problem a few weeks back with a message that I couldnt seem to delete. I worked out how to get rid of it in the end, but one of the things I did to try and fix the glitch was go to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Messaging, and cleared the cache data. This didnt work for that particular problem, but it seemed to remove all the pictures/thumbnails for each contact in the messaging app (the ones it gets from Facebook). The thumbnails still exist from within the Phonebook/Contacts, but they arent coming up in Messaging. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how I can get those back?
I really liked having them there as it makes it easy to quickly identify a contacts message thread. I am trying out Handcent which does have thumbnails, but I dont like the look and feel of it as much as the stock messaging app. Plus I despise the new message "choose contact" screen. No thumbnail images, and it displays ALL my contacts, even ones that dont have phone numbers.
I really just want to go back to the stock messaging app, but miss my thumbnails. Can anyone help?
Thanks guys.
I am starting to think this problem is unsolvable. I think i've looked under every setting I can find and see no way to bring them back.
Nobody can offer any advice on this?
I had considered possibly removing the stock messaging app then re-installing it from the apk, but I am not exactly sure how to do it...
No idea really. I'm using the AOSP Messaging and it'll show thumbnails for phone stored but not for synced ones.
You might try removing your Accounts & sync accounts and re-adding them and see if that helps.

Yeah I already tried that, no luck. It's a weird problem. I really wish I could just have my stock messaging app with thumbs back!
I have a feeling this may help;
http://androidforums.com/incredible...ndcent-wont-display-pictures.html#post2136845
But I dont have any idea how to use adb or where the thumbnails location is for the Captivate. Is it possible to achieve a similar thing in Root Explorer?
Hi all,
First, I did search and didn't spot an answer or similar thread (so I'll feel really silly when someone points me to it...)
I've got a stock VZW 3G Xoom and I'm using Google Voice almost exclusively for texting now. In fact, it works so well I gave my Nexus 1 to my father-in-law and switched to a basic phone. But, the only complaint/issue I have is that it's sometimes difficult or even impossible to access the inbox. I regularly find that if I'm in a text thread and hit the back button, to return to the inbox where all discussions are shown, it will often only refresh the screen and I remain in the individual thread. Sometimes, going "home" and then touching the GV icon will take me to the inbox but sometimes even this doesn't resolve the issue. And, today, I experienced something new - every time I hit back to get to the inbox, from within a thread, it deleted the previous text. In other words, each time I hit back the text message (whether sent or received) disappeared from the thread starting at the bottom and working up. My only fix here was to force stop it.
Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, have you found a solution to return you to the inbox?
Thanks for any help,
Ross
Mine does the same thing. While annoying, my inbox sometimes takes what seems like forever to refresh incoming messages.
I'm working with a wifi Xoom, 3.2.
Sorry, all, I had never experienced this before on my Nexus One so I thought it might be a Xoom or Honeycomb issue. But, I did some deeper (broader) digging and found that it's a known GV behavior. This explanation was helpful:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/etnha/google_voice_users_when_you_hit_your_back_button/
Basically, it seems that when I click on a notification bar text message notice I'm not in the full GV app. So, if what I read elsewhere is correct, if I view 10 text messages through the notification bar icon I'd have to hit the back button 10 times to get to the main app and the inbox. This would explain the erratic behavior I've seen, as sometimes I use the notification icon and sometimes I use the app shortcut. Not great design, but at least it doesn't appear to be a Xoom-specific issue.
What apk did you use to get it?
grab the apk from your android phone that gets it from the market
i have never experienced this issue
i am on wifi 3.2 rooted stock
It's been almost a week since the stock Messages app started acting up.
If I try to open the app by tapping the icon, it will start, briefly show the messages and close itselt with an error prompt that allows me to close it or send an error report. If I receive an SMS and tap the notification, the app opens and shows the message, I can reply and it works fine this way.
Restarting the phone sometimes solves this right away but it appears at random times. I don't text that much via SMS (mainly WhatsApp and Skype) but it's annoying to not be able to open the app to send an SMS on the rare occasions I need to.
I have an unlocked US model, I'm not rooted or anything. Using stock with Nova Launcher Prime and a couple icon packs.
Has anyone experienced this problem with the Messages app?
I'm currently waiting for the 4.2.2 update to show on the phone. I hope this is fixed in this update.
If the update doesn't fix it, I will try Textra or SMS Now. I've read good things bout them but I really didn't need an extra messaging app since I received or need to send 1-3 SMS a day.
Having a 3rd-party SMS apps will interfere with the stock Contacts and Dialer apps in some way?

First thing I would do is go into settings > apps >all. Go to messages then force stop. Reset defaults and delete data.. That should reset anything you may have changed on error. If that doesn't work do a factory reset. If that doesn't work then I would say your launcher has a conflict
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I already deleted its cached data and reset default options. Could be Nova Prime Launcher having a conflict with Messages, but the strange thing is that it started to happen long after installing Nova.
I'm waiting for the 4.2.2 update. When it shows I will update and do a factory reset.
Thanks
Ok I had this before on my nexus but cannot remember how I fixed it.
I get an sms and it shows in notification but when I open the sms there are no text in the message. It just disappears.
And it happens in Hangout and Messenger.
What's the main sms process ? Want to see if I force stop and clear data if it will fix the problem
Thanks Rudolph
Does anybody know why this happens? I have the same issue but am not sure how to fix it.
Would really appreciate the help
Same issue here. Nexus 6 on Android N.
I have Hangouts as the default messaging app.
When I receive a text message, a heads up notification pops up but when I open hangouts the message is gone.
I also tried to switch to the Google Messenger app. In this case I can receive texts but I cannot send them...
Textra seems to work fine but it's not my cup of tea...
Anyone knows how to fix this, please?
Now it's getting even weirder.
It looks like whatever SMS I delete in Hangouts or Messenger gets restored after I close and reopen the app...
It looks like that whatever I do in Messenger or Hangouts goes nowhere and does nothing.

This is why it is an alpha build and not really meant for day to day use.
Same issue here.
I searched old threads, and found there is a solution, just reboot to safety mode, and send a sms to yourself. Then reboot to normal...
However, it doesn't work for me.
I have just found what may have caused the issue (at least in my case) and it was entirely my fault.
I basically dirty flashed the N alpha on top of my previous 6.0.1 installation where I had made quite a few changes, instead of doing a clean installation.
That plus the fact that some SMS/MMS things have now changed in M (for example the telephony databases are no more stored in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony but are now under /data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony ) may have messed up my system.
I've now done a clean installation and all seems to be fine with SMS in Hangouts for the time being.
Other small annoyances (mainly related to the cellular data connection) also seem to be gone now.
The SMS issue reappeared after some time (i.e. Incoming text messages are shown in notifications but they are not saved in Hangouts or Messenger).
After having done all sort of different tests, it looks like the issue may be related to a language setting.
The Android N alpha allows you to set two languages under Settings > Language & input > Language.
- With just one language enabled, all is fine.
- With 2 languages enabled, Hangouts and Messenger seem to work ok for some time, then the disappearing-SMS bug comes back. The only workaround I could find is to disable the second system language and reboot the phone.
