My Bootloader is not unlockable. Bootloader unlock allowed = no. As far as I know I can't change to yes and there is no aosp roms on locked Bootloader. So my question is what can I do with a locked Bootloader? Also if I root on locked Bootloader can I still receive updates from Sony via ota?

Looking there will help you, there is no way to unlock the bootloader if it says 'no' you can still root your phone by downgrading to kitkat 108 and using the EasyRootTool to root your phone and then Nuts dual recovery installer. You will still be able to get OTA updates however they will remove root, you would need a pre-rooted firmware to keep root.
Okay so if install the previous rooted. 242 ftf I'll have root even after otas? And say I installed a 4k mod or stereo speaker mod, could I still receive ota?
Any OTA update will remove root meaning it will not exist on your phone. Any update you use will need to be pre-rooted in order to keep root on your phone.

I have read that Sony Phones wont be able to update via OTA update once the bootloader is unlocked. I just got my HTC One and since i dont want to loose all my data, I want to unlock the bootloader right now. Will I still be able to receive the OTA 4.2 update for the one once my bootlader is unlocked?
I dont have experience with locked bootloaders as my previous phone was an old samsung that came with bootloader unlocked(not anymore).
Thanks for the help in advance.
If you have the bootloader unlocked, you will not receive the OTA.
P.s. If you will unlock your bootloader, you will lose all your data
Thank You

Help guys.
I've just realised that unlocking the bootloader of the Xperia Z1 affects the camera which seems to be the best feature of this device.
I have got to questions:
1. Can I root this phone without unlocking the bootloader? I am on firmware 14.1.G.2.257
2. If I am able to root this device, am I still gonna be able to receive firmware OTA updates from Sony?

1. in a way yes, but you have to downgrade to .534 and use b1n4ry tool. then ota update to .257
2. just like i said in 1. you can receive ota but the ota release was for .257 only atm
anyway you can unlock bootloader without breaking camera by uprading to 4.3. but there's no diret method to have root on 4.3 but to have your bootloader unlocked. but in case you want to unlocked, better to backup your TA first.
there's a lot of thread how to do that.

I think you get OTA even if you root but I will recommended to do not unlock bootloader if you will not flash any rom. Just update to 4.3 which is really improved OS with very efficient battery and wait until root for 4.3 come out. If you want root now, which will be a huge mistake do not update to 4.3, use only Vroot or 360 app.
In general, I would like ask about unlocking my Xperia LT30AT. I've unlocked a phone before but it has been a long time.
I seem to recall that when I unlocked my first phone, I downloaded a developer kit that you use to root and unlock the device. I am interested in doing that to my LT30at, but I don't want to use any custom roms like Cyanogenmod.
What I would like most of all to do: to
(1) root and unlock the phone,
(2) keep the (functionally) authentic Android OS, and
(3) Get all the AT&T apps off the phone for good.
...but I would settle for just the first one, for starters.
Any suggestions? Thanks! MX

it's interesting to me for the same model lt30at.
In addition I wanted to know if you lose your 4G LTE Thanks to all who respond
* P.S. many links to files in the root of the sony t is no longer usable
To root this device you should use the flashtool, you can't unlock bootloader at all. Me I rooted it added a recovery. Then flashed a unbranded firmware via the. Recovery. Kept root that caused everything to work pretty Ok now my att TL is rooted with 4.3 with a few bugs

Since you want the phone to be rooted, you have only 2 options:
1) If you want to stay on 4.1.2: flash any generic 4.1.2 FTF using Flashtool and exclude the baseband in the process, then root the device.
2) If you want to upgrade to 4.3: follow the guide in my signature.
Bootloader cannot be unlocked.

If you update to 4.3 using Flashtool you will lose root access to the device because there is no exploit available yet. Carrier lock is SIM lock and is managed separately from ROMs.

Are you sure it's "bootliader unlock allowed: yes"? LT30at have always come with locked bootloader.
Carrier lock us SIM Lock. As I've said before it's nit affected by any kind of flashing. It's stored in a different location.

You're probably the first person I've seen with a TL with at&t firmware (I'm assuming since it's 120 firmware) that has an unlockable bootloader.
Yea I must 2nd that how did that happen

I want to unlock my phone so if and when I root it I won't wipe all my data. Can i unlock the phone, root at a later time and get OTA updates in the interim. I hope this question is not too stupid.

Your question is not stupid. Yes, you can unlock your boot loader and OTA updates will still install.
you will lose root after OTA

OTA`s can only be installed on a non-modified system, rooting will prevent the OTA to be installed as the system is modified. An unlocked bootloader is no problem. Once you unlocked the BL you can flash the image or OTA yourself in recovery/sideload.

It won't install. Rooting changes system files. It will fail the check and abort the ota

Unlocking bootloader is not a problem. Locked bootloader is like a locked door of a house and consider root as the person who is supposed to enter to the house but if you open the door and the person doesn't enter into the house then it's not a problem But if there is root, the update will be downloaded but the root will prevent it to get installed Hope it clears your doubts

That *used* to be the case before Lollipop.
How does ota work? Is the update something my telephone provider sends? If so if you are using an unlocked phone on a non provider network what happens
Currently UK vodafone N6 but it wasn't locked so I'm using a three network sim.

With a Nexus device or GPE device, all OTA's come direct from Google. With other phones, it's up to the OEM and cell service provider.

unlocked bootloader allows you to flash partition images via fastboot. I have not seen any issues with an unlocked bootloader. Also, update to marshmallow if you can,,,,,cause it has native move to SD if you didnt have it 5.1.1
