unlocked bootloader allows you to flash partition images via fastboot. I have not seen any issues with an unlocked bootloader. Also, update to marshmallow if you can,,,,,cause it has native move to SD if you didnt have it 5.1.1

Bootloader says relocked

Okay this is a really stupid question, but I unlocked my bootloader last week and planned on rooting it today. When I enter the bootloader, it says "relocked" instead of "unlocked" the way I remember having it. If I wanted to root, would I have to unlock it again?
Also once I root, do I have to relocked my bootloader? What are the risks if I don't?

yes, u need to unlock to root...no, no need to relock...the only reason to ever relock would be to run a RUU (if you're s-on)
Thank you, I'm now fully rooted

Questions about sunshine unlock tool

Hi, I am using VZW X with stock 4.4.2 and I would like to purchase BL unlock code from Sunshine tool. However I am not sure if this is permanent. So basically I have below questions:
1, If I flash stock 4.4.2 after unlocking BL using that tool, will my BL be locked again? (Flash BL with same version)
2, If I flash higher stock ROM like 4.4.4 or future Lollipop after unlocking BL using this tool, will my BL be locked again? (Flash BL with higher version)
My guessing to those would be no and yes. Thanks in advance for your time to read this or even kind enough to reply me
First off, the sunshine doesn't provide you with the unlock code. It unlocks it for you and that's all. OTA's and sbf's will not relock your bootloader <inert stock warning about never downgrading>. The only thing that will relock it is the explicit fastboot command. If you had the code you could unlock-relock-reunlock to your heart's content but I believe sunshine will only work to unlock the first time.

Thanks. Can I understand your word as after I purchase unlock from sunshine I can flash BL to current version or higher version and still keep it unlocked? And for your explicit command I believe you mean 'fastboot OEM lock', is it correct?
Yes. It has been posted recently a few times around this forum which bootloader codes correspond to which android version numbers. Always flash a matching or higher version to what you have and don't be tempted to get around that rule by only flashing parts of an sbf via fastboot. It's very risky and has bricked a lot of people's phones.
Yes, "fastboot oem lock" (or mfastboot oem lock) is the only way to end up with a relocked bootloader. Mind you that's "relocked". There is no way to go back to "locked" status to hide that you previously unlocked.
Remember that flashing SBFs and taking OTAs will unroot but you can always root again with an unlocked bl.

To expand and add a little to what @cntryby429 has already said..
Unlike the standard/official way of unlocking the bootloader (getting the code and issueing a fastboot oem unlock uniquecode), using Sunshine to unlock the bootloader is exploiting a vulnerability on the phone. To put it another way, Sunshine is a "hack." You do not get the bootloader unlock code. Because its a Hack, it only works ONE TIME. So if you unlock with sunshine, then relock later, you will not be able to unlock again.
When unlocking the official way (using the bootloader unlock code), flashing roms and newer SBFs and OTAs does not re-lock you. Re-locking is only possible by following the process and doing a Fastboot Oem Lock. All reports so far have been, that if you use Sunshine while on 4.4.2 or lower, flashing 4.4.4 SBF does not relock you. I don't know enough about Sunshine, and I haven't seen it been said, so I don't know what will happen if/when Lollipop comes to the 2013 X. i.e I've not seen it asked/answered... What if lollipop for the 2013 X contains patches for the vulnerability exploited by Sunshine, will it undo Sunshine's effects and will you be locked again?
As for the Downgrade warning, and bootloader versions...
30.70 = original 4.2.2
30.71 = 4.2.2 OTA with camera update
30.B2 = 4.4
30.B4 = 4.4.2
30.B7 = 4.4.4

What if: I want to completely unroot, unlock and install OTA

I am currently Rooted, unlocked bootloader, running a 5.0.2 ROM and TWRP. If I just wanted to unroot, lock boot loader and star from scratch. Meaning, accept OTA, unlock bootloader, root and install TWRP. Is this possible?
Yes.
If you want to make it easy

I wouldn't re-lock these devices ever... maybe if you sell it or turn it in. Too risky. Just use Wugs from that link, once 5.1 is there, flash it using his toolkit. Then root. Done.
I can't believe the amount of threads here and in the Nexus 9 board where guys are bricking their devices due to that darn "OEM unlock" being unchecked.

Locked Bootloader

My Bootloader is not unlockable. Bootloader unlock allowed = no. As far as I know I can't change to yes and there is no aosp roms on locked Bootloader. So my question is what can I do with a locked Bootloader? Also if I root on locked Bootloader can I still receive updates from Sony via ota?

Looking there will help you, there is no way to unlock the bootloader if it says 'no' you can still root your phone by downgrading to kitkat 108 and using the EasyRootTool to root your phone and then Nuts dual recovery installer. You will still be able to get OTA updates however they will remove root, you would need a pre-rooted firmware to keep root.
Okay so if install the previous rooted. 242 ftf I'll have root even after otas? And say I installed a 4k mod or stereo speaker mod, could I still receive ota?
Any OTA update will remove root meaning it will not exist on your phone. Any update you use will need to be pre-rooted in order to keep root on your phone.

As far as I know if you are running a custom boot image you won't be able to relock the bootloader on nougat. It's a feature to prevent you soft-bricking your phone, because if you lock it and it detects unauthorised firmware it will refuse to boot.
To relock nougat, simply use the dload method to get a completely stock device and you will see that the bootloader is now relocked.
