[Q] Issue with headphone sound levels - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had issues with the headphone sound levels? I will be listening to music with Google Play Music and the volume will all of a sudden decrease on it's own, but not the volume level bar. To get the volume back to where it was I have to pause the music and then hit play again.
Info:
Android version - 4.4.4
Baseband version - N910TUVU1ANK4
Kernel version - 3.10.0-2796035
Build number - KTU84P

Check the headphones

Wow. Thought it was just me getting old. Ha ha ha. Yeah pretty annoying. Maybe it's All Access. Been using that exclusively for the last couple years so I don't have any mp3s.
Besides that, maybe you notice this as well, the screen will dim slightly on it's own, but the brightness bar had not moved!

[Q] Bluetooth problems with kit kat.

Hi. On AHRD 41.0. I got new jay bird blue tooth headphones for Xmas. When I start streaming music the leu tooth volume maxes out and the slider doesn't hold the lowered volume consistently. I have been reading that this is an issue. Are there any mods /tweaks out there that people use? I have been combing threads and not finding anything useful. Thanks.

I fell back to 4.3 ahrd 31.6 and all is well. Kit kat is the issue.
Upgraded from 4.3 to HTC One Developer Edition on 4.4 w/ Sense 5.5
Had bluetooth jumping issue. A reboot fixes the issue if the first app used is stock music app.
Basically
Connected a bluetooth headphones to phone.
Volume button on headphone and volume button on phone work fine with Stock Android Music Player.
When Pandora is launched, bluetooth volume jumps to maximum setting on device - very deafening!
Hitting volume down button on headset OR on phone, moves the volume lower, but it continually jumps up to highest setting. Therefore unable to reduce volume in Pandora. Using bluetooth volume via the onscreen slider works, but it is still too loud at the lowest setting. The same behavior on the lock screen or if phone is asleep. The same effect continues to occur while Pandora is on the "Now Playing" screen or if I leave Pandora on the "Now Playing" screen. Using stock music app now has the same issue.
If the Pandora app is set to go to the "main screen" which displays "stations" bluetooth control of the volume is returned to normal. Both the controls on the headphone and on the phone work properly whereas pandora volume, bluetooth volume and headphone volume is all in sync. The volume jumping around stops. Now if I leave the Pandora app running and got to home screen, lock screen or allow the phone to sleep. The bluetooth volume works fine and doesn't jump around.
Going back into "now playing screen" or leaving pandora in "now playing" screen causes issues.
If you don't have pandora, check what other apps you have that running that are using music output to headphone.
Sideloading Pandora 4.4 apk fixes issues. Sideloading 5.0 re introduces the issue.

Couldn't even wait an hour to bump your post?
Mine sound fantastic. It does depend on the source obviously as to how loud and clear they get. That being said I've never heard it fade up and down while listening to a movie, song, video, etc...
What phone are you coming from? I came from Nexus5 and the Nexus6 speakers rock!

Yeah mines is so annoying..i cant play anything with outside speakers at full volume it normalizes and fades low

Yes, it sounds like some 'automatic gain control' or 'dynamic range compression'.
I don't understand why reviewers did not notice this issue.

Anyone found a solution for this or it just is what it is? Also notice the volume increases when I rotate the landscape view..then normalizes lower after a few seconds...
I've hard reset....flashed a fresh copy of 5.0.1 still no solution? Could this be a hardware issue?

same problem. stock non-root 64gb white. (and also terrible 2d performance as reported in other threads.)
the way to duplicate the misbehavior of the speaker volume:
go into settkngs/sound & notification.
simple raise the volume one notch lower than the maximum on slider next to ring volume.
once it set, the volume should loud and clear.
close the settings.
browser the phone or internet for a couple mins
come back to settings, touch the same slider for ring volume, without sliding it. the volume will be faded out/low.
touch the slider 2nd time: volume fades in/load.
but I can't duplicate the same behavior with other audio apps. only with ringtones and notification sounds

I had the same issue with my Nexus 6. Found a solution somewhere to disable the experimental nuplayer. Did that, rebooted - no good. But then I just turned the nuplayer back on for no reason. Sound is fine after that. It's been almost 10 days now, so I assume the effect is permanent.
Nuplayer setting can be changed from developer options.

Maybe a hardware issue? Someone mentioned applying equal pressure to the speakers. I tried it but didn't notice a difference. Just flashed 5.1, still nothing.
I'm noticing the landscape thing too.
When I first received mine (navy 32g, T-Mobile) I noticed the bottom speaker stuck out slightly more than the top, and it wiggled a little too.
Anyone notice something similar?
May be relavant to this issue, Do you guys have this issue ?
Received my brand new nexus 6 from carphoneware house UK & confirm that issue is still there. I can see distorted sounds when playing ringtones & Google voice search.
I upgraded to 5.1 but issue is still there so assume it must be some hardware issue.
Replacement handset on its way so lets see if it has same problem.
Had this problem when I first got my nexus ... its like the volume goes down to about what normally half sounds like sometimes even lower and at times fluctuates. I didn't have another phone at the time so I couldn't send it back and I hoped it was just a software problem but I have went from 5 > 5.1 > Chroma and even tried other things like switching nuplayer setting even trying Viper. Only have it effecting music (that I have noticed) :crying:

I have the same untill yesterday, I root my nexus 6 with the NEXUS TOOL from Wugfresh in less than 3 minutes... Then I install the CUSTOM ROM BENZO and Woala!
no more Audio Issues and its 10 times faster than original Android.. Incredible fast.
I purchase the nexus on Saturday, thank god!
I only have the issue of the sound being cut off for a second when I rotate the screen sometimes. Doesn't always occur. The device itself has a gain lock tho, to prevent the hardware being damaged.

there's a build.prop edit that supposedly fixes that (although l/r speakers will be reversed). I remember seeing it posted on reddit /r/nexus6 a few days ago, might want to search there if it bothers you.
edit: found it

[Q] CM12 Media Volume Fluctuation

Just got my Cloud White 64GB yesterday. Flashed cm-12-20150115-NIGHTLY-shamu.zip. (I've been out of the custom ROM hobby for years now)
I know of the Bluetooth static bug. I've googled and haven't found anything with the issue I'm having.
I have the media volume set at 100% and attempted to test the front facing speakers. The first few seconds of any music track on Google Play Music or Youtube, the audio is loud, then appears to drop to 50-60% even though the volume is still set at 100%. When the track finishes and goes to the next track, the volume is back up to 100% for a few seconds before dropping back down.
I know CM12 is just getting started, but does anyone know of a quick fix for now? If not...well, stock ain't so bad.
Nevermind. Found a bunch of other threads. Seems to happen on stock as well. Anyone out there NOT have this issue whether on stock or custom?

Strange speaker issue on 5.1

When I listen to music on play music the music starts loud and then goes to a very low volume. I have copied over the mixer_paths from 5.0.2. The speakers work with phone calls and notifications. But it seem like extended periods of sound make the speaker volume turn down. Anyone else experiencing this?

I had this problem on stock 5.0 or 5.0.1. Seems like a hardware problem that effects 99% of the devices out there.

Nexus 6 - Sound through earphone is very low after recent 6.0.1 update

Hello All,
I have an issue with Nexus 6 after the recent update of 6.0.1. Through eaphones the sound is very low and it is plain. No bass, could not hear clearly. Maximized the sound and cannot hear properly.
I have tried logging in safe mode and nothing worked. I have also updated the music apps/video apps to the latest version, still no luck.
Music and Video apps which used are as follows:
1. Google Play Music
2. Blackplayer
3. MX Player
4. VLC
5. Youtube
Seems no dust inside the audio jack, still it isn't working. Also, I am sure that I did not drop my phone down.
Could someone help me out with this issue? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Regards,
Try going back to 6..0.0
If its really software related, it will be good to know.
I just got a new Bluetooth headset and noticed turning on the equalizer in play music lowered the volume and sliding the bass higher resulted in even more of a muted sound. It sounds a lot better with the equalizer off. Just a thought in case you have it enabled.

I didnt notice a difference with my earphones however it had low sound with my headphones before 6.0.1 and with 6.0.1.
RE:
Thanks you all for your valuable responses.
seems there is no issue with the Android Version. Many of them stated, it works with latest android version.
I suspect its a hardware issue. I have tried a factory reset, Hard Reset also cleared cache data but no luck. I did not go for flashing the latest OS.
Submitted the device to the authorized Moto Service station, awaiting reply from them. They said there are chances, there could be an issue with the audio jack.
Any suggestions ?
