[Q] Add movie to s6 gear vr - Samsung Gear VR

How to add a movie to s6 edge to play with gear vr? And also 360 video?

It's easy under the oculus folder there should be a folder called 360Videos. If there is not create it and put the videos in there. For normal videos these needs to go under the Movies folder under the My Videos folder

Got it to work now.

What other folders can be created?

here are some links to the folder structure:

hope this helps mate :highfive:

The best way is to use movies in YTS format.

Do we "need" any of the files from the Gear sd card?

The files appear to be demos and trailers. All I am using the Gear for is my own movies and perhaps some games.
I have 8GB free on my card, so would rather just put a few movies on it and swap out as I watch them rather than load all this stuff on it.
Though have a 128gb card, it is already loaded with my music, pictures, home vids and a bunch of emulator roms.
Just follow the directory structure for thr oculus folder and put the porn in the my videos folder.
The SD card contents are not required. If you want the content you can copy it to your other card. I did this and it worked fine. If you don't care about having the videos and images and such that are included, then you don't have to move anything over and it will still work fine.

Nah, my wife would see the smile on my face and bust me
I figured it out. Ended up getting rid of almost all of it.
Added: Almost all of it is not needed unless you want the demos and trailers.

Gear Vr playing even home videos and pictures?

I have a microSD card with my personal pictures and videos in the DCIM folder. When I use the gear vr, its showing my personal videos in the cinema app. How do I prevent that? In other words, how do I only show the videos I put in the oculus folder?
nevermind, I just renamed the DCIM to something else and that worked.
You can add .nomedia file to your pictures folder and pictures wont show up in gear vr and other galleries.

The best player for 3d Films.

Hello.
I have a lot of 3d films(around 300-400gb) and I want to watch them on my Gear Vr Light. I have tested so far few players but to be honest i am not happy with them.
Every one have strong and bad sides.
How do I watch them?
- share folder on my laptop
- open network location through Es File Explorer(best explorer on earth!!!)
Open with..... :
1. AAA VR Cinema
2. Vr Cinema
3. Vr Player
4. Cardboard Theater
5. VRTV Free
6. Kodi
Not all of them support this feature and (specially in free version)
I also tried to open movies in MxPLayer and BSPlayer. But it did not work to well.
For me right now for some films best option is Kodi since the reality of the 3d is the highest from all players but it open's only Side by Side films and can't zoom out screen so you sometimes see only middle of the picture.
For many other reason the best is AAA Vr Cinema. You can play both SbS and HoU movies, you can set dimension of the screen, quality of the immersion is nice, but manage of the player is terrible. It is very hard to rewind forward or backward to the point you like.
All players have also one big minus. AC3 support or better to say lack of this support. So I must convert all movies to mp4 which is time consuming.
I am still waiting searching for better player or the best option to open movies in stock Gear Vr player with support of HoU/SbS and Ac3 not to mension that playing ISO files would be also nice welcome.
So... what player are you using and why?
what is a gear vr light?

The lack of support for AC3 blows
"Gear Vr Light" is just a marketing name of Consumer Edition(99$)
And to stay on subject.
Since yesterday for me the best option to watch 3d, 360 or any movie is to stream them to milkvr(search for the topic in Gear Vr thread)
It gives you the highest quality I have seen so far in any 3d video player.
Minus is that films must be in mp4 and that you need to install Emby on your pc to be able to stream films to your phone. Is it worth? Heallyeah!!
any dlna/http source will work

Why not just copy the movie files to your phone, instead of streaming them? It works great for me.

Cause When you have Samsung galaxy S6 Edge+ with 32gb and you have some aps(Eternity Warriors 4, Heartstone, NFS...), few mp3 flac albums you have 4-6gb letf on your sd card. If you want to have a good quality your mp4 will have around 8gb.
I have a folder with MP4 on my PC ~400gb and I watch any film I like, laying on my sofa.
It is really very simple

I do see your issue now. I have 64 gig and of course do not have half of it available still. I did download a few movie files to test and they really were good quality at only two or two and a half gigabytes though, just for reference of all.

Hi
in Oculus Video it isn't possible. But in MilkVR it is ...
You can sideoload videos from any http source using milkVr://sideload uri or mvrl files.
To keep it short: Use my MilkVRLauncher

Hey man,
I have just tried and sorry to say that but it is much worse than Emby + MilkVR player(By heavykick.
The quality of MilkVr is no match for any player I have try so far.
so still no support for ac3 audio? is there a way to convert just the audio to mp3 and repackage the mkv (to skip reincoding the video)?
Cmoar VR Cinema
Cmoar VR Cinema is my fav for this. You can view all your files on your LAN with different three different 3D modes
Hello,
i´m using VRTV PRO ( paid ) . It´s just great.
Does someone now how i can access my NAS Server directly ?
Now i use ESFileExplorer Pro /Network/NAS and than choose open with VRTV.
I have to do that for each file.
Is there a better solution ?
Thanks,
S.Neumann
Tried CMoare Demo. always crashes when trying to connect to network
Found 2 Players that work great with network access.
My favorite is Archos Video Player.
Works great and you can choose in the Player between Archos Player or different Player to play Videos .
To change "the other Player" i have to disable this Player with AppDisabler Pro.
So this is really great.
The ohter one is VRange VRPlayer that comes with a little Programmfor for PC, where you just drop Files in a Window and than you can watch them on your Phone.
Greetins,
S.Neumann

Video and Audio Playback/Conversion

I originaly made this in the S7 section so i hope that the ops delete that one.
There are alot of guides around for converting movie files so they can be played back on S7/Gear VR some of them might actualy work but ive noticed that alot of the guides forgets to mention the audio output when they convert they only tell you about the video so to remedy this ill write down my experience..
1. Most guides tell you correcly about the video formats
2. Most guides don´t tell you that AC-3 won´t work. Only AAC and MP3 works.
3. First i thought avidemux would be perfect but apparently it cant read the complete audiostream on the files iv´e tested with no matter what audio settings i used in avidemux the output file ended up without speech.
4. So. Download ffmpeg
5. Put your video file in the ffmpeg\bin folder or add a path to the environment variable.
6. Open a cmd in your ffmpeg\bin folder and paste this line
ffmpeg -i YOURFILENAME.mkv -c:v copy -c:a aac OUTPUTFILENAME.ACC.mkv
7. After the conversion is done the output file should play correctly on your S7/Gear VR
8. Last note i have only tested this with movies that have an AC3 stream but it should work for other audio streams.
A little followup 1..
I thought it was a hazzle to install Emby or any other dnla client and milkvrlauncher just to watch local media in milkvr(And im not even supposed to have access to milkvr for that matter..) so i went the easy way and simply installed Abyss webserver added the mkv file extension and added my media files to the htdoc folder and now i simply open the local web adress in the samsung internet browser and it lists all the files and folders i have in the htdoc folder and i can can watch what ever file i put in the htdoc folder.
A little followup 2..
If you Install Milk VR and then Milkvrlauncher you can get the weblinks to open in Milk VR.

You can make a batch file and save it to the folder were your media files are.
Add this line in the bat file and save it in the media folder.
for %%a in ("*.mkv") do ffmpeg -i "%%a" -c:v copy -c:a aac "FOLDER_WERE_THE_CONVERTED_FILES_SHOULD_BE_SAVED\%%~na.mkv"
pause
Save it and when you run the bat file it will convert all files in the folder.

Videos on SD card not showing in Samsung VR? Try this!

This was incredibly frustrating but I believe I have it figured out. The problem I was having is that VR videos dumped on my micro SD would not show in the Samsung VR app.
-Store VR video content in the /Video folder on your SD card. If this folder does not exist, make one.
-Download/install media.Re.Scan: from the Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.house.noranuko.mediarescanner).
-Open the app, check all the media items, then select To Advanced Mode. Add your video directory only and remove any other directories (this will prevent the app from scanning all of your storage which takes a long time).
-After the processing completes your video content should now show within the Samsung VR app.
If you want to hide video content you can always add a .nomedia file to your /Video folder via Root Explorer. To re-enabled it's visibility simply delete the .nomedia file and rescan the directory.
I've always put videos in a folder called MilkVR. Works on either Phone or Card. No need to re-scan.

Hi,
I always have my videos on a folder called Movies and it always worked fine in both Samsung VR and Oculus Movie! In the Samsung VR if you enable a private mode it will also show those videos.
All the best,
~Lord
