I have a microSD card with my personal pictures and videos in the DCIM folder. When I use the gear vr, its showing my personal videos in the cinema app. How do I prevent that? In other words, how do I only show the videos I put in the oculus folder?
nevermind, I just renamed the DCIM to something else and that worked.
You can add .nomedia file to your pictures folder and pictures wont show up in gear vr and other galleries.

I have many folders in my gallery of pics such as album art, game pics, splash screens etc which I don't want in my gallery. Is there an app or way to stop the gallery from watching certain folders. Also have the same problem with music and video where game music and videos show up.
Thanks alot

Create a blank file named .nomedia and put it in each folder. Everything in the folder and any folder below should be hidden.
Is there a way to that on my phone or do I have to do on my comp which is at home?

Check JustPictures app from market
A lot faster and more options than standard Gallery app

Its not really a lot faster but it does have options, its significantly slower though since it shows higher resolution/quality images.

you can stop the media scanner by command or by app (search in dev section)
I have a similar issue and I am going mad with my 1000s of media art showing on gallery. There should be a way to manually assign afolder for indexing.

Right, i like opt-in more as well, but nowadays it is opt-out everywhere.
What i did was putting empty .nomedia file in all main folders so media scan is fast now. Gallery and MP3 Player are of course empty now, but since i use QuickPic and PowerAmp as alternatives that allow opt-in, i do not care.
Before that i used Rescan Media Root to disable media scanning completely, but this had the bad side effect of loosing custom ring tones after reboot.
I ripped some DVDs to watch on my cappy using handbrake and after transferring them to the sd card, tried internal and external, I don't get a thumbnail or title for the movie in Gallery. I uploaded them into a dir called "MyVideos" in the root of my external card.
I'm running the perception ROM, no tweaks or mods. But I've had this issue with every ROM so far (Cog, Stock, etc)
Anyone find a work around to labeling movies for Gallery? I can browse to the folder using Astro and can read the files names, which I guess could be a reasonable work around, but would prefer to use Gallery.
Look in the video player app, they shold be listed there.
Use whichever file manager app you have to rename it by long pressing on the file.

Videos Listing in Gallery
The videos in Gallery are listed in "thumb nail" format. Which sometime can't be easily identified. Is there a way to change it to list by file name instead?
I plugged up to my pc and put albums in the music folder and picture albums in a pictures folder. When i open the music app, it doesn't see any music and same with gallery, cant see anything only pics i've taken with phone. If i use my file explorer it see's everything, opens it and plays. I tried third party gallery like quickpic and it works fine. Poweramp works fine as well for music. The stock software isnt showing anything. I factory reset phone as well and same thing. I've been using android for the longest and first time encountered this. (EVO, EVO 3D GS1, GS2, GS3, Skyrocket, Nexus 4)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I used the HTC sync program. Music is there and works. For pictures it separated one album into 30 and gave them all random titles. Very strange. Could use some help here as well

Have the same problem. All my photos don't show up in gallery.

I think you should clear gallery cache data from app manager and then restart.
This was solved my issue once.

You will also need to clear the "media storage" cache.

Sounds like a lot of jumping through hoops just to transfer some songs and pics?? All of my android friends are always saying how much they love the drag and drop features of their phones, and how they dont need itunes to sync pics and songs. Looks like its not all its cracked up to be, with a 2013 flagship model not properly transferring media via drag and drop.

Worked fine when I dragged music and pictures over. Not sure what OP is doing wrong.
I put pictures in the Pictures folder and music in the Music folder. Then unplugged and they showed up in the respective apps.
Since HTC Music Player can show folders as a category what I did was simple -
1. Under Music folder created sub-folders with same name as my iTunes Playlists
2. Opened each folder and dragged the iTunes Playlist from iTunes into it
3. This copies all songs from that playlist into the folder
So the folders in the player work as playlists
Also, copy over Events from iPhoto into Pictures folder creating each sub-folder and this show up in Gallery as Albums !!
All done ...
im having the same problem with my htc one. will someone please tell me if they found a way to fix this issue? clearing the media storage didnt fix the prob,it only made it worse now even the pics i took from the phome wont show up in the gallery. rebooted it like 3 times. please help! this is completely ruining my brand new htc one for me..
So I just found a way to get everything back .
First download a root file explorer (one able to gain root)
then navigate to your root it should be just a "/" then go to /data and then /data/media.
Bam that's where everything is! now just move all the folders to the main sdcard directory, /sdcard or delete the files that are in /data/media if you don't need them anymore.
Good Luck and hit "Thanks" if it helped :laugh:
How to add a movie to s6 edge to play with gear vr? And also 360 video?
It's easy under the oculus folder there should be a folder called 360Videos. If there is not create it and put the videos in there. For normal videos these needs to go under the Movies folder under the My Videos folder
Got it to work now.
What other folders can be created?

here are some links to the folder structure:

hope this helps mate :highfive:
The best way is to use movies in YTS format.
This was incredibly frustrating but I believe I have it figured out. The problem I was having is that VR videos dumped on my micro SD would not show in the Samsung VR app.
-Store VR video content in the /Video folder on your SD card. If this folder does not exist, make one.
-Download/install media.Re.Scan: from the Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.house.noranuko.mediarescanner).
-Open the app, check all the media items, then select To Advanced Mode. Add your video directory only and remove any other directories (this will prevent the app from scanning all of your storage which takes a long time).
-After the processing completes your video content should now show within the Samsung VR app.
If you want to hide video content you can always add a .nomedia file to your /Video folder via Root Explorer. To re-enabled it's visibility simply delete the .nomedia file and rescan the directory.
I've always put videos in a folder called MilkVR. Works on either Phone or Card. No need to re-scan.

Hi,
I always have my videos on a folder called Movies and it always worked fine in both Samsung VR and Oculus Movie! In the Samsung VR if you enable a private mode it will also show those videos.
All the best,
~Lord
