I couldn't find a solution for the XT890.

Use rsd-lite and one of the rsd-lite packages to restore your phone to stock. Or just flash the stock boot and system image through fastboot. Then it will most likely work again.
If u then want to flash the ota, just flash the stock recovery first.

I didn't use the OTA for this one. If you are trying to update to 4.4.2, there is a thread (which I will try to find the link for) containing a TWRP backup file that you can flash through TWRP.

There is also a tutorial there aswell, you can use recovery (TWRP, CWM) or you can use RSD-Lite to install.

I actually got a ics rom from the forums and got my phone working again. It seems to be a problem to all people using the toolkit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003&highlight=white&page=17
so a warning to all people with ota ics trying to get permroot, wait a bit for hasoon2000 to update his toolkit
fixed "stuck at HTC logo" issue
It appears to me that hasoon2000's tool is running the wrong batch file when you try to install CWM. Instead of pushing the CWM recovery, it is pushing the Holicakes boot.img file, which causes the phone to freeze at the white screen with the HTC logo upon reboot.
I tried pushing the stock boot.img file from Data\Kernels to the phone, with no success. Not sure if it is the wrong file, or if somethig else is the cause
I did manage to resolve the issue though, and this is what I did to fix it.
1. Reboot phone into fastboot mode and connect to USB
2. run "fastboot oem lock" to re-lock the bootloader
3. reboot back into fastboot
4. Download and run the latest stock RUU from HTC.
From here, you should be back up and running the stock firmware, with a locked bootloader and no recovery. To install CWM recovery, you first need to unlock the bootloader again.
1. Boot into fastoot
2. run "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
3. reboot back to fastboot
4. flash CWM with "fastboot flash recovery Recovery/recovery-cwm-vivid-5.5.0.4b2.img"
I ran all these commands with a command prompt inside the Data directory of hasoon2000's application.
Hope this helps others out there.

You will have a recovery, it will be the HTC recovery. You would have to use fast boot commands to run cwm. It won't cause any problems if you don't do cwm. It is optional.
Looks like the toolkit was updated fyi

I apologize in advance if this has been answered already.
Before you ask:
My bootloader is unlocked
My phone is bricked due to an update that caused processes and apps to crash and make the factory reset on stock recovery useless so I tried to downgrade from lollipop to kitkat. My aim is to see if a custom recovery will format the phone properly so that flashing the stock firmware works. I think it isn't working because my userdata and cache partitions may be corrupted or something because this is what I get when I try factory reset on stock recovery:
E: blkdiscard on partition /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata failed and E: blkdiscard on partition /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/cache failed.
I am thinking that I need a custom recovery but when I flash one and try and boot into recovery I end up with the stock recovery and no errors are given during the flash and the pink text that says "mismatched partition size" doesn't show up. When I run "fastboot erase all" it completes with no errors but doesn't seem to do anything so could fastboot be at fault? When I try booting it with "fastboot boot recovery.img" all i get is the Motorola logo flickering every second or so. Unless I can fix my phone without a custom recovery, I need help!!!
If any more information is needed I will try to provide but am somewhat of a noob. All responses are appreciated. Thanks

I have been using mfastboot for both the firmware flash and for the custom recovery flash
I am having the same issue as well. I flash a custom recovery ... it says it flashes ok but I cannot enter recovery.
I too was getting the blinking Motorola logo. Had to power off and then turn back on to get the phone to boot up. I cannot relock my bootloader either !
This all happened when I returned to stock to get the official lollipop update. I was able to flash gpt.bin before that and flash recovery and everything but since I did the update I can't do much of anything.
I tried loading twrp just to get into it. That did work once but I don't know how it did it. I was able to do a backup and flash a custom rom but still can't get into twrp. I've tried fastboot and mfastboot many times over and still it says flash ok but I cannot enter twrp or any custom recovery.
---------- Post added at 03:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ----------
I am thinking that I either need to flash an earlier version of twrp besides the 2860 that I'm trying to flash or relock then unlock the bootloader again, if I can. Not sure at this point but I'm going to continue to research and try something else.

Is it possible to put tempcwm.zip onto the internal memory so it can be booted through "apply update from sd card" as that is the next thing I'm going to try but don't know if it will be compatible. I tried to flash the lollipop firmware by xda member reefuge to see if that would do anything but it didn't. Perhaps it might work for you.

That's assuming you can get into any recovery !
I was able to "boot" into twrp using the Moto-G-2014-ToolKit. It appears to be rom related - "Quantum-OS. I just recently installed Candy5 and have no problems rebooting into recovery whether from the phone or from ADB command.
Hi, I have a Moto X 2013 Developer Edition with bootlocker unlocked and stock rom with Android 4.4.4. It's root, has TWRP and SuperSU.
Since last week my phone is shutting down almost always after power on (only a few times it keeps power on for a few hours), and restarting in TWRP recovery mode.
Do you know what could be the cause of this boot loop?
I suspect it has something to do with the Lollipop Update to 5.1, cause I start getting this boot loop after the update option was shown in my phone (I didn't accept the update at first).
I tried installing again SuperSu (thinking that maybe root was disabled), but without luck. The phone continue with this boot loop.
I also tried installing now the Lollipop Update to see if that resolve the issue, unfortunately after the update is downloaded and I accept the install, the phone shutdown and it boots in TWRP again (so the updated doesn't install).
Hope my problem was explained well and anybody can help cause my phone is really unusable like this.
Thanks in advance!
You're only suppose to install stock ota's using stock recovery not custom recovery. It's best (if you can) flash back to stock if you know how.

can you please tell me how to flash stock recovery
Thanks for your response. Do you mean to flash stock recovery? or full stock rom?
Just in case, I don't need/want to install lollipop, only want to avoid this kind of boot loop and stay at 4.4.4. I'll only install 5.1 it if that fix the issue /but as I say I can't do it because after download and try to install, it power down the phone and goes to twrp recovery).
Thanks for your help!

It's best that you flash back to fully stock rom. If you can flash back to 4.4.4

What if they disabled the update app, wouldn't that stop the update from trying to install and cause it to reboot into twrp

Hi cdiamon, sorry asking again, but there is something I don't understand.
I have original stock rom 4.4.4. I only unlock bootloader (I have the developer edition), put twrp and root the phone. Why the suggestion is to flash back to 4.4.4 to resolve the issue? Didn't I'm already at stock rom?
By the way do you think the problem is because twrp and/or root by supersu? If yes, can't i simply uninstall supersu or remove twrp in some way?
B.E.McAllister and praty, thanks both for your answers, I'll look at them too.
Thanks in advance!

The problem is you have twrp on your phone when the phone is trying to update. You need to flash stock recovery then take update. Or keep twrp and disable update app.

Just to know, is there any way to uninstall TRWP without flashing stock recovery and loosing all of my configuration?

You don't loose anything by flashing recovery. That is if you just flash recovery or fastboot recovery.

You will need to unlock your bootloader first.. just search on google ''Motorola Unlock'' .. you''ll know what to click
After you unlocked your bootloader you can flash a custom recovery without problems.
Your warranty will be gone if you try the above so after the custom recovery you could just download Cyanogenmod..
If you have warranty and you have not rooted yet.. just take it back to the store
I'll be trying to help you if you have a problem
Hello, I've been trying to bring back to life this old XT1068.
In the past years, I had installed several ROMs until one day the phone stopped working (probably I made some mistakes like flashing something not supposed to be flashed on this device, probably) and since that moment if I turn it on it remains stuck on the boot animation (the coloured google dots moving...).
I tried everything. I have TWRP 3.1 installed, I tried to wipe everything, I tried factory reset, I tried to erase the internal storage, I tried to install new ROM, including a stock ROM and the stock recovery. The result is always the same: no errors at all in TWRP, but it's like nothing changes. It does not boot and if I go to TWRP I can still see files that I put in the phone years ago, after I tried every possible wipe. Imagine that I still see the WhatsApp folder of years ago.
As I already mentioned, I also tried to flash a stock recovery: the process finishes without errors but if I reboot to recovery, I always end up in TWRP.
The only thing I can do is to reboot into recovery or fastboot.
The phone is recognized by the computer ("adb devices" / "fastboot devices").
Does anyone of you guys ever experienced something like this?
Thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same issue. Did you find a solution?
I never got that problem, is pretty strange, i think some zip you flashed before is still installed automatically, for example, there is some option on supersu called survival mode, if you enabled that, i think an supersu uninstaller zip could work, also you can try to install any rom, install supersu and check on supersu settings
---------- Post added at 07:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 PM ----------
Also probably some partition got damaged or anything, i recommend to flash an stock rom that flashes many things except for nvdata and nvram partitions because it could make you can't get signal if those partitions are from another zone
Get your device into fastboot mode and flash the stock IMG.

Hello!
I`ve done the process to install via mfastboot the stock IMG, no errors at all. When the phone reboots it goes into the previous installed rom boot animation and stays there at bootloop.
I even tryed to install an updated TWRP recovery (3.4) via fastboot. Is shows "OK" but when it loads it is still the previous version.
It looks like the phone is "write pretected".
Any further suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. I can accces the fastboot menu via "VOLUME DOWN + POWER" but whatever I try, the red error message comes up. I can boot into twrp via USB/PC but i cannot install it. I cannot factory reset.
when I reboot from TWRP I come to lineageOS boot loop.
ANY IDEAS?
