Hello XDA! After numerous searches and lots of contacting my local psychics, I've still been unable to find the answer to life's #1 question:
If I buy and unlock a T-Mobile/Samsung Vibrant, I know I can use it on AT&T. However, if AT&T has IMEIs on file for the device, it will be detected and upgraded to a data plan (thanks AT&T). Since the Vibrant is part of the GS line, does anyone know if the Vibrant will be detected as a smartphone?
Thanks in advance for any help!
EDIT: and this thread was no help and in the wrong place.
A wee bit late...
I'm a wee bit late, but if anyone wants to know:
I've had my Vibrant for a bit now, and so far, no upgrade. I'll keep this thread updated if I do get upgraded, though.
Dd you just put the at&t sim card in the unlock vibrant? Or do I have to disable the data connection to prevent at&t to detect the device? And does MMS works without data plan on vibrant? Thanks in Advance.
Sorry, but I don't use MMS at all. I have data turned off both at the phone and at AT&T, but if I understand correctly MMS should work and data should not get you detected (other than using excess data).
Samsung Vibrant on AT&T phone only plan
I have a Vibrant I use on AT&T with plain phone service only & enjoy the Android world in Wi-Fi areas. I have "Mobile Networks - data enabled" turned off in setting so it does not use any of AT&T precious data. I am not sure if this is in stock phone program or not, I have custom ROM installed. Every time I update my phone with a new ROM I make sure I do not have the SIM card in until I have the data turned off because the ridiculous fee for pay by use. Anyway I logged onto AT&T and set my phone to a dumb phone on their list of phones, waited a few days, and called AT&T. All they could quote to me on the Vibrant phone with their SIM card in was it was a "non AT&T branded phone". I got data removed no problem but did require a phone call - unable to do online. This has worked well.
Hi,
I realize that some of these questions have been asked before but after some reading I've come to find that there have been recent developments not documented on the main info sources.
I want to get a Tmobile Tab to be used on Tmo as a phone. I currently have an Android data plan. Is tmobile still blocking voice tabs? And is possible to get both voice and 3G, yet? What are my options here?
What if I decided to use it solely for VOIP connectivity? Am I going to have issues here or has this been sorted out? This is a valid option for me. So if this is the best option out there please feel free to say so.
BUMP and update.
I bit the bullet and bought a tab. The build quality is incredible.
I got it off craigslist so it was already rooted. I put my phone's sim card in there and I get edge. Is there any way to get it to 3G? Tmobile sim in tmobile tab.
Hi all, I am in real need of some help here. I have a S3 Mini GT-I8190N. It is an unlocked 02 phone. I have a Virgin uk sim (rolling monthly contract). I simply do not understand why my S3 mini will not accept it. I've tried several custom roms. ( at this moment I'm using AOKP Golden KitKat) I've also tried various stock roms. Started by updating the original stock rom which came with the phone. No matter what I've tried my sim will not allow me to make/receive calls or texts. On one occasion it was allowing me on to the internet but still wouldnt let me make calls etc. The sim does work in other phones. I have tried a mates 3 uk sim and also an unused O2 payg in the S3 mini. Neither worked. I should also mention that the phone recognises the Virgin uk sims number and if I don't insert any sim it notifies me that sim is not present. I've been puzzling over this for a week and my head is battered. I should mention that whilst I am no genius, am I not an idiot. There must be something I'm overlooking. Unless of course the phone is just kapput. If anyone out there has had a similar problem with Virgin sim or can offer me any advice then please let me know. This is beginning to make my teeth itch!!! Cheers.
Ok, My old SGS3 finally gave up the ghost and I purchased a Z3c. I trimmed the SIM card from my SGS3 to fit the Z3c, booted up setup the phone and am on LTE (At&T) able to make voice calls, send and receive sms, check voicemail etc...
I noticed when I log into my ATT account page online it shows a generic phone picture now instead of the SGS3 picture it used to. What benefit do I gain from calling in my new IMEI number? I ask because for the moment everything appears to be working great... and if there is no strong negative to not updating my IMEI I was wondering why do it (as I assume they may attempt to hit me with an upgrade fee or I have read a few threads on other sites about how when they provided the new IMEI suddenly LTE or other service issues cropped up that weren't there when using the old IMEI...)
Thanks for any responses that might be helpful in allowing me to understand why I should update it or why it may or may not be important (pro's and con's)
At&t doesn't care about the IMEI change, if things are working well, including LTE, then just leave it as is.

Thanks, sounds simple enough and it was sort of what I thought! Now on to more important things...like figuring out what case to get that works with my DK48 charging dock
If you did not get ur phone from them there's no need to do it. I think it's only required on iPhones because Apple always has a way to make activating everything harder.
I called AT&T and went to 1 of their authorize offices and got a LTE sim card and everything works great. If you already have a IPhone that sim card has LTE enable. So don't worry about it...
I know the XZ2 Compact supports verizon, I just wanna know if you pop verizon sim in xperia xz2, if it will have signal or volte?
Trying to figure that out myself. Specs are the same so I don't see why it won't other than a couple folks saying it won't.

Ended up picking up the compact today and popped the sim in from the Essential. Verizon service works fine on it with volte working perfectly. No full size in stock, don't think they even ordered any. Best Buy.

I tried it with a H8296, first, second (both with working T-Mobile sim), and only sim. No go.
Put the Verizon sim back in my pixel 2, and fired right back up on Verizon.
Has anyone tried this after installing the Android P beta on the XZ2? Curious to see if that magically lets Verizon work. (So irritating that it doesn't regardless...)
Message from a Verizon rep:
Please note that the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact model certified for Verizon is model H8314. The dual SIM version H8324 is not compatible.

You rock!!
Honestly it should work fine if you have Volte enabled on your account. For example, the Mi Mix 2 works perfect on Verizon and is not Certified on the network. It just has the appropriate band support (as well as CDMA in this case). However, I had no problems getting Volte working on the Mix 2 despite it not being "certified". I'm going to purchase the XZ2 Premium and try, but it would be great to hear some success here as well.
About what the rep said though, most normal Verizon reps know very little about getting phones on the network. I'd recommend at least getting transfered to an upper tier troubleshooting agent.
You may have to call Verizon to get support on it, but it should just recognize the bands just by popping the already activated Sim in. Maybe toggle the network settings in the options to "Global" or LTE preferred. Volte will be the only obstacle really being that it has all of the LTE bands.
Which is the US variant with support for Verizon LTE bands, H8216 or H8296 or H8266??
Ok guys so I purchased a xz2c (H8314) from Best Buy and it won’t commect to Verizon service for me. It connects briefly when I start phone and when I turn on/off airplane mode. Then it goes back to network service or emergency calls only. I’ve tried several times with tier 1, tier 2 Verizon reps, when to store, went back to bestbuy and spoke with Sony and nothing Is getting my phone to connect. Please help.

Hello TPlatt, I've been trying to follow your posts on a variety of threads. Before you potentially flash another country's firmware on your device, could you review/answer/do some of the following?
Pre-1) This question is probably better served on the sony xperia xz2 compact xda forum rather than the xz2 forum as this issue is mostly resolved for the compact. Search for "HD Voice" in the xz2 compact forum.
1) Did you ever get your phone working on verizon before you started playing around with it i.e. rooting/flashing other other firmware?
-I don't know if this has anything to do with your issues, just curious.
2) Do you have a data only sim or a line+data sim?
-Again, I don't know if this has anything to do with your particular situation, but the general solution of enabling HD voice either through Verizon support or your account through the Verizon website might depend on this. If you have a data only sim, I suggest you find someone with a full Verizon sim and have them finish the activation for you (HD Voice enabling) so the device can be properly show up on and be configured on the Verizon network, before switching back to your data only account.
3) When you were talking with the verizon techs, what transpired?
-I'm assuming you gave them your imei or meid number (I don't remember which one was necessary) so they can whitelist the device and assign it to your account.
Best of luck? If you believe you cannot get your phone to work because of flashing you did, maybe get a swap from BestBuy? I also got my xz2c from there, working on verizon, and waiting for the bugs to work themselves out before rooting my phone.

Wow so sorry didn’t realize I was in xz2 and not the compact. Guess that’s what I get from using small phone to research
So my mother was in a no LTE zone with the US variant of the XZ2 compact. Earlier she had data and phone service, but once she got back to the same place with data and service the phone wasn't connect. She had to restart her phone to get it working again. Is this common or is there something wrong with the service?
