Hello, XDA! First post! Long time lurker though.
So I got this X1069 and I wanna root it because the battery life is horrendous, probably because of the bigger screen. (coming from a 1st gen Moto E) but I don't currently have access to a computer in order to accomplish this. And public computers have deep freeze which means I can't install moto drivers (since they require restart).
I've looked into PC-less rooting, nothing. Looked into skipping the unlock bootloader step, still nothing. So I came to you guys. I don't think it's unfeasible to root a device directly from the device itself, or from another rooted android. My Moto E is fully rooted, bootloader unlocked, running AICP. Rooted it months ago and haven't needed to hook it up to a PC since. So is there a way to unlock bootloader or at least install TWRP without the need of a computer? Or moto drivers, specifically? Maybe cloud rooting or via a rooted android?
Thanks in advance. Oh and my Moto G came with lollipop out the box. That also seems to have sealed some loopholes.
Keep Moto apps
Oh, and a side question. When I rooted my Moto E and installed custom ROMs, I seem to have lost the ability to use native Moto apps. Is there a way to fix this, or at least prevent it from happening again on the Moto G?
No root without unlock bootloader.
Some stock apps won't work in custom rom (cyanogenmod and aosp based), for camera and gallery somewhere in the apps forum is a thread with a flashable zip
I meant in the play store, I'm no longer able to install them normally. If I have to flash them I might as well flash ported apps from better devices.
Well is there a way to unlock bootloader without a computer? Or a way to bypass the need to restart after installing Moto drivers?
very hard to do...
But you can check if you have access to the device without moto drives.
you can run "mfastboot" from a pen-driver, an use this comando to check if the device is plunged ok.
mfastboot devices
if the answer is like that you don't need drivers:

Hey there guys, I'm new to all of these software stuff. I'm trying to get my device simply rooted. I looked everywhere on the forum to see if anyone actually rooted my version of device. Some people say they did it but they didnt post how they got it or the instructions. So if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. (Also, I don't care too much for roms or customization etc as long everything works perfectly fine. I just need the root in order to use the app called "SixAxis" a mapping for games.)
My device's bootloader is locked im guessing since it's by tmobile, but if there is a root out there, please give me links/exact instructions. I AM A NOOB BTW
Thanks
I currently own a Sony Xperia Z. It's model number is C6606
Android Version is 4.2.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-ge32669e
Build number: 10.3.1.E.0.191

Use method 0. The tool should be self explanatory.

Ok nvm, i figured out what you meant by method 0. So i tried it, and the device rebooted and i checked it with the root checker app, and it didnt root. Nothing was installed or anything like that.
Then i attempted to do it again but this time "run it as administrator". Then the root kit said "the system cannot find the path specified"
Any ideas or other ways to root my device?
First, make sure drivers are all installed. USB debugging needs to be on.
Then make sure nothing else like the PC Companion is running before you use the toolkit.
This should work for you.
I just bought a Moto X Devoloper Edition off a forum. I've tried it for a little while, and all the basic stuff seems to work well. But I want to make sure everything works good. Is there anything special I should look for? Maybe he bricked the boot loader, etc. How would I check?

If the bootloader were bricked, your phone would not turn on and you wouldn't even be able to get to fastboot mode - obviously this is not the case.
If you are concerned about previous modifications that may have been made, follow the instructions in the return to stock thread to flash back to 100% stock.
Everything you need, including all the links to stock firmware, tools, and drivers are located in that thread. (In the general sub-forum)
CAUTION! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE! Only flash the version the phone is currently on, or newer. Also be sure to use the correct firmware for YOUR carrier.
Good luck
I've noticed I have no reception at all (seriously, just a black thing). I shid note, I have no SIM in the phone. Should I be worried? Or will I get reception with a SIM? Anybody with a Verizon Moto X can answer the question by removing their SIM card and looking. Much appreciated.
You'll have to put a sim card in the phone to get service
Just to make sure, it's supposed to look like this without a SIM (the notification bar)?

Being unlocked and rooted alone will not prevent you from seeing the OTA notification. However, modifications to the /system and/or /recovery partition will more than likely cause the OTA update to fail when you try to install it.
Most people use fastboot/mfastboot to flash a clean stock version of /system and /recovery (assuming you're using TWRP or similar for root access), then take the OTA to get the update. Once updated, reflash TWRP with fastboot/mfastboot, flash SuperSU from TWRP and you're back in business. This is how I upgraded my rooted and unlocked XT1060 from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4.

What @fury683 has posted is the correct answer..
One thing I will caution you about... IF that is Lollipop, you might want to take a wait and see... to make sure rooting is the same. And/Or do some research first.
Initially, due to security changes, rooting lollipop needed a custom kernel. Later that was supposedly solved. But I haven't followed enough to know the complete details.
Chances are good that once you get Lollipop on there, you want be able to downgrade to 4.4.4 or lower.
Better wait for people to confirm first then. I feel naked when my phone is not rooted.

And actually, I'm confused as to why you are posting that picture... 212.44.26 is KitKat 4.4.4 per Moto -> https://motorola-global-en-uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/100576

Google promised Lollipop would have encryption by default, but turns out it's not true.
1) if you upgrade to Lollipop on Nexus 5, it's not automatically encrypted. It's choice to encrypt or not. I know, because I upgrade prior to selling my Nexus 5. Should be the same with the Moto Maxx, or any pre-Lollipop device.
http://betanews.com/2014/11/21/android-5-0-lollipop-encryption-severely-impacts-performance/
Luckily, encryption is not enforced by default, even if you make a clean install using a factory image. If you have upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop on a pre-Nexus 6 device, then using encryption is your call.

That was written November 2014, but now in 2015 we see...
2) lots of new Android phones on Lollipop are not encrypted.
WHY?
Google quietly backs away from encrypting new Lollipop devices by default
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...m-encrypting-new-lollipop-devices-by-default/
Google won't force Android encryption by default (update)

Is there a way to see if encrypt?

In 4.4.4 KitKat, if not encrypted, you will see a description of what encryption does. The screenshot above is from my Moto Maxx.
In 5.x Lollipop, if not encrypted, it will say "Encrypt Phone":
If already encrypted, it will simply say "Encrypted" under that entry.
This is identical to what my wife's HTC Nexus 9 tablet looks like, which came encrypted from the factory with Lollipop.
However, many new Lollipop Android devices are showing up without encryption being enabled due to the performance hit of encryption. Google is allowing that. If you upgrade from prior version of Android OS to Lollipop you get to choose whether to turn it on or not.
droid turbo 4.4.4 won't encrypt
So I decided to encript my phone. I did what it told me and it just reboots idk iv tryed it 20 or so times now. Anyone with a helpful idea
nexus 6 marshmallow root using mac osX - error message! - device is currupt -
wanting better optimization for my Nexus 6 with marshmallow build MRA58R, i started the process of unlocking BL and going for root access following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-nexus-6-one-beginners-guide-t2948481
right in the beginning already im stuck. i unlocked bootloader fine, had toggled on in the device, checked through terminal. everything fine. started root process and as soon as i ran CF-Auto-Root it started its thing and rather pretty quickly a new screen came up reading in red letters "Device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly." for maybe one second before shutting off. i can briefly get it to power up, only to get that same screen. a couple times i did have it back in bootloader mode through ADB from the terminal. but nothing since. the few times i did get bootloader up i tried a recovery process from the site referred by the error screen itself here: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6185381?p=verified_boot&rd=1
but when i ran fastboot oem unlock it now says it cannot find device and tells me to go into device and change OEM setting in developer tools. kind of tough when it wont boot up. i sure would love a solution to this one, id appreciate any help..
added: on the device in bootloader mode it reads USB connected but on the laptop will not recognize any connected devices?

I am no expert, but it seems like you are having the exact same problem that this person had. It seems that the guide will not work on 6.0, but luckily, he seems to have found a solution.
