ATT Note III SM-N900A not able to auto-update. - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got three problems.
Won't over-the-air update
Computer can't recognize phone no matter what I do even when installing drivers separately, in "normal" mode, that is, with the phone booted and running.
Driver updates are useless
But Download mode works. So here's what I want to do. Knox is still factory-fresh and shows no alteration. I want to go back to completely stock rom in the hopes that over-the-air will then work as well as re-enabling computer to phone access (Mac/PC Kies).
Download mode works (99.99% sure). The phone works absolutely great, except for the three problems stated above. So can I do this? Here are the version numbers as found on the phone. I need help really bad here.

Since you can get into download mode I would just Odin flash the NC2 files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54803130&postcount=136 to return your phone to stock. BUT once you do and you do the OTA Update, you will be on stock Lollipop and it CAN NOT be rooted! ONLY way to root it, is flash the NC2 files and root it (Just a heads up). IF you don't want root and want Stock Lollipop then just flash these files with Odin [100% Stock] Lollipop 5.0 (N900AUCUEOC1) Odin Tars http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/100-stock-lollipop-5-0-n900aucueoc1-t3069609

[Q] Download Mode on Kitkat?

I'm not able to get into download mode on T-Mobile stock Kitkat via having the phone turned off and plugging in USB cable. Was on JB, rooted, CWM, used LG flash tool to restore back to stock, factory reset then took the OTA'S to play around w/kitkat. Did not have the download mode issue while on D-FUSE rooted kitkat rom, was able to flash back to JB using flash tools, did I hose myself by taking the updates? I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter, thank you
Download Mode on T-Mobile Kitkat
Not trying to bump my own post or anything like that, had a chat with LG and this is what I was told: 11:02 AM Joe: I see. Regretfully at the time it seems that for the updated software, Download mode is not available as this is used to perform operations that may be harmful to the device. In order to avoid this and therefore avoid system errors, the download mode is no longer supported on this product. Is there any way at all around this? I honestly dont know what I was thinking, should have just flashed D-FUSE ROM. Obviously from the first post not the sharpest tool in the shed, I'm not sure the steps to take or if I even can do anything through ADB to get download mode back, again I would greatly appreciate any help, thank you
Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm also having this issue.
I was rooted (stock) and performed a factory reset due to issues staying connected with towers.
I guess I dumbly updated my firmware while in the process of getting my phone back in order.
So I'm running 4.4.2 (KK) with a build number of KOT49I.D95920s (20s). Device is the T-Mobile D959
I know I need to get my firmware back to 10c in order to be able to root again but the problem is I cannot get into download mode (probably because of the firmware update.)
I have no recovery mode. I cannot use Freedom Flex to install one either because the phone is not rooted.
I can't use IORoot (I get to the part where I need to toggle the download mode and I can never proceed), towelroot isn't supported,
and stump isn't supported (nor does it offer me a brute force method; again probably due to my firmware version.)
I tried LG Root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772) but can't get into download mode.
I have the valid KDZ file but since I can't get into download mode, I can't use the LG Flash tool (2014 or 1.0.54). I also have a valid .dll file.
I have not found a tot file.
I don't care what android version I'm using, I just want to have a recovery and root working again.
If anyone can please help, I would greatly appreciate it. I've been tearing my hair out.
Wow, I was finally able to flash and root my phone using this method:
http://playfuldroidz.com/wiki/How_t..._to_stock_for_the_T-Mobile_.26_other_variants
I used the offline mode.
I grabbed the DLL and image from here: http://downloads.codefi.re/playfulgod/LG/G_Flex/D959/firmware
I flashed the 10c build first, and it worked so I went ahead and flashed the 20h build to be able to use freedom flex to install cwm.
No more firmware upgrades for me!!!!
I sincerely hope this helps out anyone else with this issue.
downgrade 4.4.2 without download mode
just discovered this. you can use the lg flash tool with the phone on! without having to enter download mode. simply connect as lg software and run the program. successfully downgraded to d95910c this way

restore stock firmware after towelroot

Rooted the phone, decided I didn't really care or need to have a phone rooted. Phone was fine. So I decided to grab the stock ATT firmware and reload it via Odin. All goes well until the very end when the phone tells me:
SECURE CHECK FAIL : system
Pretty sure this is related to the locked boot-loader. I cannot get into recovery mode, and I cannot boot into regular android, but I can get into download mode. It just fails after nearly completing everything using different Odin versions, and I've used two different firmware files. I was on 4.4.2 and had all of the latest ATT OTA updates.
Everything is still listed as official and KNOX is 0x0 and KNOX Warranty void is 0x0. I guess Kies emergency firmware recovery doesn't work with the Note 3.
What are these Odin files, and where did you obtain them? Add far as I know there is no Odin flashable file for 4.4
You're going to have to visit a Samsung kiosk at a Best Buy and see if they can fix it. If not, you're probably screwed, and will have to try for a replacement, or send to Samsung for service.
I tried unrooted with SuperSU and it still shows custom, KNOX still shows 0x0 the real issue is how to remove customer and get back to official without bricking.

This was the recommendation from my local att corporate store. It's also what worked. The Samsung consultant let me restore my phone with her computer. She didn't realize how to get it into download mode. Either way, the Samsung program flashed the phone. It was super easy to use. Certainly meant for an non tech person. Same instructions as doing an emergency firmware recovery within Kies.

[Q] Solved Help - Baseband version - unknown

A little background. A few months ago I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active SG-I537 from a person on Craigslist after my HTC One M7's microphone died. Anyway, I thought the phone was fully stock. I started to become suspicious that this was not the case when I checked for software updates from AT&T and the updates began to fail repeatedly. I downloaded a root checker from the Google Play store and, confirming my suspicions, I had root access. I didn't really like finding this out this way, but it was my own fault for not asking. Having installed CyanogenMod on both a Galaxy S1 Fascinate and an S2 Skyrocket, I knew something about these things and decided to just live with it as the phone seemed to work otherwise.
Recently I tried playing video on my DirecTV app and found that the app would not function on a rooted phone. That coupled with the fact that I am hearing that Android 5.0 Lollipop will soon be released for the S4 Active made me want to return the phone to a stock firmware. So I began reading. The problem I have is that I have no idea whatsoever how the phone was rooted. I know that the firmware was 4.2.2 UCUAMF3. So I downloaded ODIN and the full ODIN package of UCUCNE3 and then followed the below guide to a T.
Everything seemed to work, I got a pass green light from ODIN. But I have a circle with a line thru it where the AT&T wording usually appears. The 'about device' page in the settings also says 'Baseband version' is unknown. and I have no cell abilities. I can do everything from the smartphone end via WiFi. But I have no cell phone capabilities. Can't make calls, etc. What I need now is someone to point in the proper direction of where to look for the knowledge on how to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Download the NE3 Full Odin Package from the i537 Firmware Thread.
Extract SGH-I537UCUCNE3_v4.4.2_ATT_ALL.zip using a program such as 7-zip.
Download the Windows program Odin. For more information about what Odin is and where to get it, please read the Odin section in the first post.
Open the version of Odin that you downloaded (preferably Odin v3.07)
Once opened, you need to load the files for the Bootloader, PDA, Phone, and CSC. The required files are located in the Odin Files folder. It should look exactly like the screenshot below with the appropriate checkboxes checked.
Next put your phone in download mode. For more information on how to put your phone in download mode, please read the download mode section in the first post.
Once your phone is in Download Mode, connect it to your computer using the cable that came with your phone. IMPORTANT: Odin and Samsung phones are very finicky when flashing firmware, the only usb cable that is guaranteed to work is the cable that came with your phone. You may use other usb cables, but Odin may not detect your phone. If Odin does not detect your phone try connecting to a different usb port or a different computer.
If your phone has connected properly it should show up properly in the Odin window similar to the following picture:
Once Odin has detected your phone, hit Start. It will take a long time to flash the package to your phone and will completely wipe your phone. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE CABLE OR TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER. If the process is abruptly interrupted you risk permanently bricking your phone, so be careful.
When the program has finished it is safe to disconnect everything and reboot your phone. Your phone will be completely stock, unrooted and you will have to setup your phone from scratch again. If you wish to root the NE3 firmware, please visit the towelroot website.
tried asking the person you bought it from?
I've heard that installing a firmware/rom twice in a row can help things. try that! good luck!

Wow, I spent 7 hours on this yesterday and couldn't find that thread. I guess my search skills aren't what I thought they were. A huge thanks, O-T. I'm back up and running. I flashed the MF1 modem to get the service menu back up and selected the correct option. I was then able to reflash the NE3 firmware and now I have baseband and IMEI properly identified and working. Took another couple of hours but I'm there. Again, mucho thanks.

Stock TMobile D415 ROM D41520b_00.kdz Lollipop 5.0-- Can't root?

I'm a bit slow to realize this, but after updating to T mobile's latest 20b firmware (lollipop 5.0x), it lost root. I then tried to root it, using the three methods mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732311.
Towelroot clearly doesn't work anymore. The zip file in the above thread couldn't be flashed since there's no recovery operation possible (just showing an android with ! in a triangle sign). I also tried the purpledrake, but the script doesn't run when the phone is connected with all drives installed and adb devices showing the phone. I then tried to get fastboot mode back (to install twrp/cwm recovery to flash the zip file) by following http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-fastboot-l90-d415-t2827825 which I have done successfully before, but then couldn't do it because it requires root (doh!).
So it seems that I just lost my ability to root, unless I downgrade to a stock kitkat (10e?) from tmobile, and then towelroot/etc. assume those work.
Anyone with experience on the stock 20b firmware? Can you root it and how? I'd love to use the beautiful 12.1 Cyanogen that's available here, but the camera doesn't work right on mine. Thus stock 5.0 seems to be the best option. Many thanks.
I got a bit further on the purpledrake method, in that I had to do a clean restart on the phone and connect to usb before the script will recognize. However, it ends up giving a really quick error message after trying a temp root: "your phone is not running a compatible software version. No vulnerable mode detected. Rebooting phone."
Anyway, many thanks to @brossovitch I followed http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-lg-g-flex-2-g2-g3-on-lollipop/ and it works like a charm. I can't seem to delete this very short thread so I thought I'd wrap it up with a solution. If it seems a bit useless please remove the thread (or tell me how to do it since I can't find the "easy button"). Thanks.

Note3 n900a firmwares/NL1 to NC2/NO PC/TOWELROOT/HELP?

Ok so first let me apologize if I overlooked a similar post but I've been having root issues for weeks now and haven't found my exact situation yet.
Here's the background. I have an AT&T Note 3 N900A. When I got the phone I had no issue using towel root to root the device. Worked first try. I'm new to rooting and I was in love with all the new options. I started small playing with xposed and fonts overclocking etc. Then started researching custom Roms. Discovered cwm twrp wouldn't work with my locked boot loader so researched and got safestrap. Did the backup made my new Rom slot and with a guide I attempted my 1st custom Rom flash. FAIL. bootloop. Revert to stock Rom via Odin. Download towel root. Rooted. No problem.
2nd attempt at custom Rom flash with safe strap. fail. Download another stock firmware (at this point I was still dumb to the difference between NL1 NC2 OC2 etc). And in still dumb to oxed and deoxed. But apparently I got out of bootloop with a different firmware version this time around. First I decided to run lollipop 5.0. Towel root said device not suported. Now I'm running 4.4.4 NL1. device not supported. Also can't get kingoroot king root(pc or non pc) cf or anything else I've tried to work. From what I've read I need to go back to the NC2 4.4.2 and run towel root from there.
My current issue is I have no windows pc to run Odin on and my wife's MacBook refuses to install the Mac version correctly nor will it load the Web based version on the casual page.
I just figured out that I can't use safe strap to flasthe nc2 until I'm rooted. And without Odin to revert I'm scared to try any other method without some guidance.
First off... Is there any way to root my current 4.4.4 without going to the nc2 or if I allow my phone to upgrade to 5.o again is there a non pc root method on lollipop yet?
Or would I be able to download a nc2. Zip to my phone save to sd and use the note 3 stock recovery to revert? ?
I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have even if I haven't mentioned it in my post. Hope to get some answers asap and thanks in advance!!
I'm not familiar with the Note 3 for AT&T but Heimdall (in place of Odin on a PC) may work on your mac to flash ROMs.
http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/
Yeah I tried that a while back but it was b4 I knew this much. Maybe j can get it working now. I was just hoping there was an easier way.
