[Q] Weird charging since 270 update - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I updated my phone (C6903) (2 days ago) Ive had a weird charging issue. Using the original USB Cable and Charger I have no problems. Using a Sony magnetic charging cable and the original charger it will charge to around 75-80% then keep cycling thru the charger connected/disconnected cycle and wont charge past there. Never had any problems pre-update. Cable all looks good still (it doesnt exactly move far!). I havent had a chance to do a factory reset yet - will try it in the weekend and see. The phones running everything stock, no rooting, no manual flashing, just OTA updates. Prior to the update it was still running the last version of Kitkat.
Anyone else experienced this? Or have any ideas?

I have a similar issue with Stock Sony cable and charger. I was having issues where my phone would get to 33% and then switch itself off, there are times, where I have been charging and its jump a great percentage ad only yesterday my phone was on about 28-30% and I restarted my phone, when it booted backup I was on 78%..
Since the 270 update I have messed on with the firmwares trying to sort it out, although I do have some problems charging, I seem to have sorted the issue of the discharging, as I can last pretty much all day and get the phone down below 33%. Can I ask what firmware did you use, did you make your own pre-rooted firmware or get one off this site?

Try a clean install, I never had that kind of issues...

I did a few clean installs, the first instance of 270 is I created a flash file with ftf, Supersu, recovery, Xposed and the 4k camera mod, but since I removed 4k camera mod and xposed been working ok, so I might try and flash them separate.

.199 keeps killing my micro USB port!

Twice now since updating to official .199 UK unbranded i've been hit by a bug where my phone won't recognise charger unless its turned off. It's fine for a couple of days then gets very random about whether it will charge when turned on. Usually this followed by the next day it won't charge at all. This time i've noticed my laptop won't recognise Xperia T internal storage either and ADB/USB debugging don't work either.
I've hard rebooted, booted in safe mode and factory reset from within the phone and it makes no difference. Sony no doubt would tell me charger or port is broken and use returns process but when turned off phone will always charge... It also has no problems with the laptop flashing it or fastboot mode from turned off so this is no hardware fault with my lead, ports or charger. I've reflashed kernel on its own with flashtool, also fully without wiping and fully with wiping NO DIFFERENCE.
So the only thing that will fix this is SUS repair function, every couple of days? Very stupid bug worse than the 100% charge with .295. You can no longer rely on the Xperia as a main phone in my opinion unless your prepared to carry a laptop and internet connection with you everywhere. What a disappointment.
Further to this I have just repaired and even that hasn't done anything. Just used flashtool to revert back to ICS software and my charger is immediately recognised on first boot. I will now update using SUS again to .199 and I bet it will still work for a couple of days and then start to trip out again. Where the hell can this bug be lingering though if it can avoid factory resets and full SUS software repair?? What can downgrading reset that nothing else can... Very confused and disgruntled now. I suspect you could also revert to 4.1 with same effect but I just had ICS firmware handy so used that. I will test 4.1 next time
ICS only works. It gave me a update to 9.1.A.1.141 over the air so I did it and it broke my port again. I flashed 9.1.A.1.141 manually and its still broke - that was the software I was using before 4.3 and it worked fine. Is it seriously possible that these 4.3 updates have done something so bad to my phone that only the software it originally came with will work properly because thats how it appears to me now. I can't charge while turned on or have my laptop recognise the Xperia T internal storage unless using 7.0.A.1.303. Phone about to get thrown against a wall I think.
Maybe your battery power control is ruined.

Thanks for suggestion but i'm not so sure. I mean it charges fine turned off, it charges fine on 7.1.A.303. And another symptom is not being able to connect my PC to phone. Surely if it was just battery/power control it wouldn't charge from PC but would still connect and allow me to transfer files. I also don't have any of the random reboots the OP had. I'm so worried to send this in for repair. Last time they did a software update and sent it back with original problem. Then they fixed 2nd attempt but caused some cosmetic damage and it didn't last long. Then my operator replaced it as I said I lost trust in the repair centre. I only got this one Nov last year and already it's having problems... I'm either unluckyist T owner going or they have some serious issues.

Very unlucky... my T is one year old, I installed every kind of rom/upgrade/downgrade and still works flawlessly.
Could they have replaced your old phone with a regenerated unit?
Your USB port is ok, that's for sure.
Like any other electronic component, a fried power control could behave in many different ways.
Yours could have problem when it has to work with a firmware that manage the power in a certain way.
Even when you connect to your PC, the power control of the battery is called to manage the power coming from the computer: in fact the phone usually charges during any operation with the PC.
And this explains why the phone charges fine when turned off.
Now the question is: which is the power control ruined? The one of the battery or are there other power controls?
Let's make it clear: this is just my hypothesis
If you don't trust in reparing service, why don't you try to repair by yourself?
You need a screwdriver (for only one screw) and a guitar plectrum to open up the back cover.
That's all, it's very easy... on internet there are some video guides... but remember that this way you loose your warranty!

[Q] Is my battery dead?

Basically when I was heading home from school, my battery was on 56%. 5 mins later, it shut down. Managed to catch a glimpse of the battery percentage and it was on 0%. So I thought to myself, maybe I need to calibrate my battery again. So while heading home, I made sure to drain my battery completely by turning the device on as many times as possible (it would turn on and immediately turn off because it has 0%). Finally at home, I fully charged the phone without turning it on. Once 100%, I turned it on and everything was fine. Battery dropped to 50% after a heavy usage (surfing YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, XDA and reddit) for about 3-4 hours. Was chatting with my friends on WhatsApp (The battery still on ~50%) and my phone shut down. Saw it on 0%. Now it's charging as we speak.
This happened when I updated to Lollipop. Not sure if it's Lollipop, my method of rooting the device or this mod that's causing it. I think it's not Lollipop. It was fine the first few days using it without any root or mods installed.
Note: The way I rooted my device is by flashing a 4.4.4 kernel with recovery, flash SuperSU, reflash 5.0 kernel. Installed dual recovery by @[NUT] and then flashing SuperSU again in the recovery.
Another issue is my phone keeps on jumping in and out of charging. Here's a video I took. It only happens when charging using a PC or Sony's wall plug that came with the phone. Other wall plug seems to work just fine.

Regarding the first part, happens to me something very similar from KK 4.4.4 and 5.0.2 LP, continuing the problem, I have tried several ways to repair it without success. It may be necessary to replace the battery.
Regarding: Another issue is my phone Keeps on jumping in and out of charging. This is usually because the original usb cable is not used or it is defective.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait when I am able to upgrade to the Z4. No point replacing the battery now.

It happens with other cables as well. When I connect it to the PC, I am able to transfer files over without problems. It's only the charging that keeps jumping in and out.

I just reflashed stock ftf and rooted the same way I did before. Didn't install the mod. We'll see if it's caused by the root method or the mod.
Why don't you make a clean install (without root) just to discard software/root issues
So a full day of testing shows that it wasn't my phone. It wasn't my root method. It probably is the audio mod. I don't have it installed and it's all fine

Unlocked htc M7 battery issues

Hi, ever since upgrading my unlocked HTC M7 phone to 5.02 Lollipop, I have been having major issues with charging my phone (among many other issues). My battery will sporadically allow me to charge to 100% using the charger on some days and not at all on other days. I'll have the phone turned off and charging over night for 7+ hours and I will only get 5% total charge. If I reboot multiple times then sometimes my battery charge will jump around. My battery life will drain extremely fast while in standby and I will watch the battery level drop while it is plugged in, as I'm doing right now. I'm not running any intensive apps and in fact have minimal apps installed on my phone. When I get 100% charge I can go an entire day on that charge.
I've tried disabling suspect apps, I've tried wiping the cache and I've tried the so-called battery calibration (vol up + vol up + power button, hold 2+ minutes which restarts phone multiple times). None of this has worked. Is there anything else I can do?
Is it possible to download the old kit Kat Rom from somewhere or is there a fix for this lollipop build? Is there another stable Rom that is very close to lollipop but with all the bugs fixed? I have a tonne of other bugs associated with updating to 5.02. My build number is: 7.17.1540.21
Thanks.
First of all this is the wrong thread. You should have posted in the "One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" thread. If you already tried the calibration, you might want to give Gsam Battery a go to see what is draining your battery. You can also try to do a factory reset. You mentioned you have problems with charging the phone. If none of the above mentioned work you might have a faulty battery that needs to be changed. Do you still have any warranty on the device? And if you want to revert back to KitKat you need to S-OFF the phone by using the Sunshine tool.
I have similar issues with my verizon one m7 but in my case calibration battery solve problems with charging but only for couple weeks. You try another charger and cable?

Dl a 5.1.1 rom , preferably a gpe based rom, use gsam like he said, and what I Also did, which I think helped with the sporadic charging behavior, I brought and Aukey 3 port quick charge 2.0 capable brick, along with a 5 pack of the USB cables, got both on sale on amazon for 5.99 each While I wasn't having your exact issues, I was having some of the same regarding charging. The phone would be plugged in sometimes, and decreasing In %, I almost couldn't use the dam phone while it was plugged in, when I first bought the phone a year and a half ago, it never did that. Also when I did get it to charge normally, it would take so long to get to 100%.... Was so frustrating. But the one thing that CLEARLY has helped is get an Aukey charging brick and the cables, but more so the charging brick.. Let me know I can link you, although I would think similar to.the Aukey would work.
Good Luck
Sent from my HTC One
I tried the factory reset a couple months ago and it didn't work. Unfortunately my phone is past the warranty - I've had it for 2years now. I used the stock battery monitor and it said the primary culprits were standby and WiFi. Does using the battery monitor for charging the phone while it is off make sense?I always turn the phone off at night while charging.
Any suggestions on a good 5.1.1 gpe Rom? Where is the best place to DL it? Or what is s-off and sunshine tool?
I popped in a different stock charger and cable and it seems to be working...for now. Thanks for that suggestion. Hopefully it is just the charger, though I'm a bit skeptical that is the issue.
Update: As of today, the 2nd charger has been working well. I'm a bit surprised this was/is the cause. I assumed a charger does or doesn't work.
As I thought, the new stock charger is no longer working properly. I am finding that my phone will not charge properly every now and then. No way to predict when or how to prevent it. I have bounced back to the old charger and that has actually worked a few times. In the 3 minutes it took me to post this, the battery has dropped 5% with it plugged into the wall. Just yesterday I had a full 100% charge and lasted the entire day.
Any other suggestions? I'm not the best at rooting so don't think I'll have time to do that. Been looking at new phones, but like this one vs what's currently out

Charging problems

I've been flashing roms for awhile and have run into a weird problem that I never seen before...
If I boot up with the charger supplying power, it will charge when power is supplied (plugged in or wireless), but if I'm booting up without power being supplied, whenever I do supply power(plugging in or wireless) it doesn't charge....
I've changed kernels and roms, but it seems to persist...
Any ideas? Hardware/firmware/software?

I have nearly the same problem as you, except I can only use one certain chord to charge, as others won't work. oh, and a reboot with it plugged in doesn't help either. I have to boot into the recovery, while plugged in, then reboot into the system. I don't think its software, but I have no clue, honestly. I thought it was just my device. it started happening about 3-4 months ago.

Wow that's a long time to be running it like that, did your phone ever get soaked in water? Mine did, wondering if that had something to do with it... I do a lot of flashing custom roms so not sure if that's it either tho

Were any of you guys able to fix this issue? I started having the same problem qith my N6 a couple of days ago. i flashed a Pure Nexus rom 2 weeks ago and it worked fine, all of a sudden this issue came up. i flashed back the stock rom and the issue is still happening. my phone has never been wet or anything, it is an over 2yo phone.

I dont have a lot of experience, mostly i just follow instructions posted on these forums. I dont know what is the logcat, but it sounds like log file. If you could give me some guidance, im sure i would be able to get it for you, i appreciate you take your time to help me/us.
Btw, my phone is running a 7.0 android stock version, with a security patch from February 5th 2017, and a compilation number NBD91Z. i dont know if this information helps.

I started having charging problems when my Nexus 6 was about a year and a half old, I tried different ROMs, kernels, stock. Nothing helped, till I bought a new OEM charger. The one I got with my shamu looked fine, but was apparently not fine. I haven't had any more problems in the 6 months since getting the new one.

Do you use the OEM Motorola Turbopower 15w charger and have you (most likely have, but still gotta ask) tried other chargers, both QC compadible along with non-QC chargers in different amp ranges? My stock charger burnt out awhile back, it first stopped triggering OC2.0 and instead wouldn't exceed 1400mA, which wasn't noticed at first, then stepped down to only 480mA max. however throughout the failure period I noticed certain cables would have varying speeds as displayed in Ampere, even testing high quality Anker/Aukey/name brand performance cables they would vary greatly even though all could support more than the 15w the charger could output. This lead me to believe a cable problem which then turned into a charger problem and I couldn't get my hands on another QC charger at the time without buying one outright just to test the theory. When I finally found a friend with one it became apparent the charger was bunk as it topped at 2200mA right away with every cable I tried with the stock charger. However shortly after that I started having problems where it wouldn't charge at times leading to me waking up with a dead phone. Thinking its either the solder on the micro-usb port failing or the battery I checked the solder joints first using my shops usb microscope and they were fine. Then I noticed, since I rarely let my phone go below 50% if I can help it, it was shutting down @ 30-50% battery remaining, sometimes it would be only 3-5% I found when testing it. Replaced the battery and shes golden now.
Guess what I'm trying to say is, there are some pretty strange reactions to a dying charger or battery that can make you think its something else, even software related (first thing I did was reinstall PN along with 3 other roms lol). If your not able to find the problem, and a friends QC charger doesn't fix it, spend the $20 or under and grab a battery, cheaper than taking it to a repair shop to just find out the battery is dying and you could have saved a ton replacing it yourself, & even if its not it, now you have a backup for when yours does go out, which it will, only a question of when (google the countless post of N6 batteries dying after avg 2 years usage) lol.

[Bug] Phone crashes during loading

I do not even have my S4 mini for two weeks, and I've allready problems with bugs
The problem is that sometimes (tonight it happened the second time), when my phone charges overnight (~7-8 hrs.), at the morning the LED lights green, and the phone does not respond to anything. I've tried to press every button, the emergency power off combination, wait for 10 mins... but the LED is still green and nothing happens.
After taking out the battery it works again.
Only thing I did was taking out the Battery in order to be able to take out my SD-Card and copying some music to it.
Is anybody else facing this issue too?
PS: I haven't installed the latest firmware update, since I always wait 1-2 weeks before I install it
Lets check a few things first:
1. It's the S5 mini forum, so I assume you have one and not S4 mini;
2. Are the battery, charger and USB cable originals? If not, try different one, Samsung preferably;
3. Did you try removing the SD and/or SIMs for charging?
I would update the firmware as it may fix the bug that may cause the problem, if system related. To make sure it's not hardware, back up your days and do a factory reset, and if you are not on stock firmware then revert to stock first.

1. Yes, I do have a S5 mini now, my old S4 mini has died (hardware)
2. I mostly use the orginal charger or the one of my S4 mini. But yesterday, when it happened again, I'm 100% sure that I used the S5 mini charger
3. I will try this tonight
As I found out after my first post, this does not only happen during loading, but also when just having the screen off in your bag.
Upgraded Firmware yesterday, my brother plugged it in (I don't know which charger he used), and BOOM it happened AGAIN. Just like one day before I took out the battery, this time to copy maps to my extSDCard. And later, when sitting in the sun, it happened again, the battery was warm but not hot (I have an App that calles my at 41°C, but it seems like this has not been reached and the phone also didn't powered off when it had 44°C)
I will try to charce without SIM and SD-Card today, even if I don't think that it'll change anything.
PS: The emergency power off seems to work, I probably just waited not long enough
