Hello,
About 4 days ago I started having an issue where my HTC One M7, would just shut down randomly when not plugged in. I had installed ViperOne 6.2.1 and everything was working fine. I then tried to remove apps thinking this was the issue. There was no pattern to it. It just shuts down. I have to hold down the power button until the phone starts up. It would shut down at all different times and tasks that I might be doing. I thought maybe it was the battery, so I searched online and did the battery reset, maybe it was a calibration issue. What I did notice is every time the phone would fully charged but when it would shut down, I would then plug in the phone and start it up it would give a battery life of say 78%, or 48%, again no pattern. So I decided to reinstall the ROM. Tried that and still the same thing even with no apps installed, the phone would just shut down. The only way to get it on was to plug it in. THen I tried other ROMS, such as CM11 ROM, LiquidSmooth, i also tried Android HD Revoluton this one wont get past the HTC quietly brilliant screen, thats another issue. I did reinstalls while just wiping of data. Then I finally decided to format the whole and reinstall the CM11 mod. Still the same issue. The phone works fine as lonas its plugged in, this only happens when it is not plugged in.
I am assuming that the battery needs to be replaced. Since everything works fine while charged. I would like to ask others if this is the logical next step, or are there other steps that I could try.
Thanks in advance

What recovery version # are you using?
probably an hardware defect, you should try to go back to stock and see if it helps
I am using the following
TWRP 2.7.1.1
CM 11
I didn't mention but the phone is not 2 years old. I think its past the warranty.
I don't know hot get it back to stock. Haven't tried that yet! I will have to research and try that.

2.7.1.1 is required to flash CM11 correctly but for ARHD you must use 2.6.3.3, You might want to try before returning to stock. If you want to return to stock, follow nkk71's guide linked in my signature.
The fact that your phone is not rebooting while plugged in makes me believe its an hardware issue
Lately when i upgraded to 4.4.4 i noticed this annoying , disturbing problem with my battery . My moto X is stock, no root yet. First it went up and down spontaneously, like really crazy, while charging it appear to be at 65% while previously it was at 73% then i unplugged and plugged in again then it went to 73% again and didn't went fully charge, i have to turn off.
Any suggestions how to fix this ? btw i don't want to void the warranty though cause i want to return it to motorola for exchange when i get back there next summer. Many tks
Do a Full Battery Drain
Use your phone's battery till the point of phone shuting down.
Even after that try starting phone, as much times you can see the moto's boot logo.
After one point, the phone won't even show start screen, nor vibrate and may flash a green LED from its speaker.
Now connect your charger and charge your battery keeping your phone switched off, for about four hours.
And then check, how it works

I've been having a similar problem with 4.4.4... This article helped me out http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-calibrate-the-battery-on-your-android-device but luckily I'm rooted so it was far easier to fix the problem. Good luck! Method number 2 looks promising for non-root users. Not sure about method 1 though.
I left my phone overnight with low battery, the next morning, the phone can't be turned on with only red led charging, very similar to Xperia Z's sudden death.
First day, I was able to charge it and power it up to the CM boot animation.
Then I wasn't able to charge it, however can enter fastboot mode, but not flash mode.
The first night, somehow I can charge it and I left it charged over night.
Second day, out of nowhere, I can enter flashmode for once, but cannot flash any .ftf because some errors with loader.sin. After I unplugged my phone, I can't enter flashmode back again.
And now, whenever I plugged in my phone to wall charger/laptop usb, my phone red led is blinking for about 3s and then off for about 30s. Can't enter flashmode/fastboot whatever...
Is this the sudden death like other xperia z? But I've left my phone battery went to 0% several times before and I never had this problem until now....
Someone please share your thoughts and help me in this.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

I think your phone is totally bricked.
I'd hate to believe that it's hard bricked...
I was still able to enter flashmode, even though only once in many tries..

Try flashing a stock/custom kernel IMG through fastboot, charge it up, see what happens. If necessary, flash a whole ROM - try the AOSP Lollipop yuga port we have, it's meant to be flashed via fastboot.

I flashed my previous working nightly kernel via fastboot before, and the device still failed to bootup.
I didn't flash ROM because the device can't even bootup (ought to be kernel fault or some other unknown problems)

Hmm. Try replacing the battery, maybe? Highly unlikely to work, but I got nothing else. I brick my phone on an almost weekly basis, and I've never come across a problem like yours. ?
I think so too. may be battery has past its life. or could be kernel issue. If you able to flash stock kernel or any other then are you not able to power on keeping the phone connected to charger instead of powering up on battery?

Yeah, that's what I am trying to do, but ZR is quite an old model, having problem to look for its battery or even a 2nd hand phone to swap the battery.

Currently I kept plugging in my phone, hoping for that just one time that it might be connected in flash mode, then I can flash a stock kernel+ROM to try out.
On another note, from what I see, it might not be battery issue because I can't boot up the phone on charger without battery. I'm supposed to be able to do that right?

See if your battery's shape is changed or not i.e it is curved.
Normally battery is flat and you cannot spin it on a smooth flat surface. This is a good sign and your battery is in good condition
But if you battery is spinning then it is little bit curved so chemicals inside are not able to create reaction need to power the battery. It won't even last 10 mins even After 3 hrs of charging.
What I think is, your battery is damaged, when you go into fastboot or flashmode your battery dies!
Typical condition in humid climate!
Just another suggestion

Yes, the battery is curved. I can't really remember how it was, but I remember it was slightly curved a while ago.
Now I am having problem to find the spare battery to test it out.
Btw, I am supposed to be able to boot up the phone on charger without battery right?

Some phones can do that, others can't. I remember testing this once, but I can't remember the result. I'll try it out if I get the time.

Battery sides should be flat if you keep on a table or a flat surface. If you try to spin the battery and it spins then there is a swollen bulge in the middle which suggests that battery has gone bad. The chemicals inside are leaking. You must change the battery before it explodes while charging and totally damage phone circuit and might do some harm to you to.
I removed the battery and tried to power up the phone while connected to wall charger but I couldnt which means ZR cant be powered up without battery.
Check online for original battery or replacements available. :good:

Thanks for confirming that ZR can't be powered up without battery, makes me more confident that it is battery issue.
Will look for battery replacement and come back here with results.
Thanks.
Dear All,
Thank you for all the thoughts, suggestions and solutions.
I managed to find a replacement battery for my ZR and it can be powered up again. Hence all my described issues are due to bad battery.
However my ZR now experiences weird issues after back from grave, like WiFi downlink shoots to max for unknown reasons and random reboots (especially on WiFi, random reboots even happens while charging power off). Prime suspects are: 1. I didn't charge my new battery up to 8 hours before use; 2. I kinda broke my kernel or ROM in my previous attempt to revive my phone.
I'm going to reflash my kernel and ROM, and charge my phone overnight. Will let you guys know if everything is fine.
Thank you so much.

I think its a ROM/Kernel issue coz you won't need to charge a Li-ion battery for long time before first use..it should be done for Nickel Cadmium batteries and not for li-ion..so that might not be the issue

I reflashed my kernel/ROM but still getting random auto shutdown.
Now I can't even boot into my ROM, because the first thing I see before my homescreen is "Powering Down".
Trying to flash the latest nightly.
Any known cause for auto shutdown?
Since I updated my phone (C6903) (2 days ago) Ive had a weird charging issue. Using the original USB Cable and Charger I have no problems. Using a Sony magnetic charging cable and the original charger it will charge to around 75-80% then keep cycling thru the charger connected/disconnected cycle and wont charge past there. Never had any problems pre-update. Cable all looks good still (it doesnt exactly move far!). I havent had a chance to do a factory reset yet - will try it in the weekend and see. The phones running everything stock, no rooting, no manual flashing, just OTA updates. Prior to the update it was still running the last version of Kitkat.
Anyone else experienced this? Or have any ideas?

I have a similar issue with Stock Sony cable and charger. I was having issues where my phone would get to 33% and then switch itself off, there are times, where I have been charging and its jump a great percentage ad only yesterday my phone was on about 28-30% and I restarted my phone, when it booted backup I was on 78%..
Since the 270 update I have messed on with the firmwares trying to sort it out, although I do have some problems charging, I seem to have sorted the issue of the discharging, as I can last pretty much all day and get the phone down below 33%. Can I ask what firmware did you use, did you make your own pre-rooted firmware or get one off this site?
Try a clean install, I never had that kind of issues...

I did a few clean installs, the first instance of 270 is I created a flash file with ftf, Supersu, recovery, Xposed and the 4k camera mod, but since I removed 4k camera mod and xposed been working ok, so I might try and flash them separate.
Hi all,
I have been using my phone (X520 on EUI 5.9.23S) for over a year without any issues and all of sudden the phone probably overheated(felt very warm yesterday and the battery was draining fast) and now it's not charging at all unless I enter TWRP and charge my phone that way but that is very, very slow and takes ages to charge.
When I try to charge my phone the normal way, the battery indicator even turns green for a split second but then quickly changes back to white and refuses to charge as if a safety mechanism is in place that is preventing the phone from charging. Also, when I connect my phone to my computer, USB modes are not coming on the phone anymore nor is the computer detecting the phone properly. (I get "USB device is unrecognized" error message)
The TWRP method is so slow and inconvenient so I would appreciate if someone can help me out here.
By the way, I am on IllusionKernel but have tried OverloadKernel as well but the same result.
Thanks in advance.

Try replacing the stock boot by using “fastboot boot boot.img” which should restore stock kernel, may be EUI isn't supporting the custom kernels well.
However I am unsure,I read about this on a form some months ago so can't guarantee this will fix it or worsen it.

Thank you for your response. I have been using a custom kernel(s) for months and this just happened out of nowhere. I will still try to revert to the stock kernel.
Might be due to battery damage , probably needs new battery.

This could well be the case but it charges very slowly through TWRP and when using the phone, everything seems normal (no overheating or battery drain) so I think, it's something else that is the issue. Also, my CDMA official headphones are not working either during the call or even when watching videos.
