[Q] Phone bricked, won't go into download/recovery mode - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
My friend gave me her phone. It won't boot, charge, nothing.
Here are some points:
- The phone won't go into download/recovery mode (one time it went into download mode, I don't know how but Odin didn't see it)
- The phone won't charge etc.
- It is visible in Windows as USB 8500 Driver
- I've tried other battery from i9070 and this battery on onther i9070. Works perfectly.
- Tried some button combos, plugging/unplugging cable when holding keys, 10 minutes-battery-reinserts etc.
- Changed USB ports, gave him fully charged battery
And heres a case - sometimes it boots up (i press power for a 10 seconds and leave him for 2 minutes - suddenly I have strange patterns on the display).
And it has - told me that suddenly it gets this - strange pattern when display is off.

I had similar problem, with that snow screen. But I could enter download and recovery. I was on GB then, JB was just released. I had to take it to service, because flashing ROM did not help. They installed JB for me, and everything was fine.

[Q] USB/Auto Rotation problem in Galaxy S

Hallo,
I have Oct/2010 Galaxy S bought from Germany. I have the 3 button recovery mode enable model. So following are the problems I am facing simultaneously...but first the story how it begins...
The day it started
I was making a video of my girl when she was taking a shower..lol..she caught the phone and tried to snatched it...and in this bloody joke act, the phone fell off in the sink about 1-1.5 feet below. I immediately took it and checked if everything was ok. I found that the home screen was fixed to horizontal display, and wouldn't change even after numerous re-starts or rese/selecting the automatic rotation option.
Problems
1. Stuck Horizontal Display
The phone is 99% time stuck to horizontal display with exception of the call log or dialer option or games which run only in portrait mode. Auto-rotation selection-deselection and horizontal calibration doesn't help at all. *Till 2-3 days back, if the phones battery is exhausted and switches off automatically, and then if the charging USB cable is connected, the phone restarts and turns normal to the normal portrait mode*. And stays like this till the next manual restart. Now, this is also not working anymore. I can play the accelerometer games perfectly, those also which run in portrait mode only. Also, the phone never charges if it is switched off..I mean if you connect charger USB cable/power cable when the phone is switched off...the phone turns on and then start to charge. Before(when all was ok), I had this big battery indicator on screen while at the time of switched-off charging. Also, if a power cable charging method is used...the touch screen behaves like crazy and you cant use it at all. You can't even slide to unlock the screen but all the buttons work completely fine. In case of USB cable charging...everything goes normal and I can use the touch screen and buttons like normal.
2. USB Mode
So the USB cable is charging the cellphone whenever connected to any USB port. When connected to a computer, its the wish of the cellphone if its wants to connect or not. The USB mode is detected by a computer/laptop only when the phone is turned on after a complete battery discharge in a normal portrait mode (read the lines above marked with *). That too I have to reinstall the drivers of the phone on the laptop/pc again. All the other times when phone is only have horizontal display, USB mode of any type...mass storage, kies, music player is not detected.
Some how i have upgraded to recently released 2.3.4 XXJVR from my previous 2.3.3 XXJVK but the problem has not gone. It started while using XXJVK only. I have reset everything...erased the phone/sd card memory but nothing happened and also restoring to the factory reset option.
Anyone who can help!!
Try flashing a FULL rom with 3 files and .pit again
Hope it helps

[Q] Bricked SP

Hi everyone.
My SP doesn't want to turn on anymore for a unknown reason. When plugging it to the pc\charger the red led appears and then disappears. Non of the tips (power + vol. plus, power + vol. minus) doesn't work.
Please, help. If your suggestion will help, I'll pay you.
put it into charger and leave it charging for like 1-2 hours, also remove sim and sd card

How did this happen?? Try this pull out the back panel and press the reset button with a pin and hold the power button and see what happens
Also you may try this install Sony PC companion This will install all the correct drivers for the phone then take usb cord Holding volume Down And Plug it to the phone. If all goes well the led at the bottom should glow green
I had a similar issue and after 4 days of trying all what i could find out in XDA for bricked Xperia phones my SP is back alive.
For me it happened during flashing (with Flashtool 0.9.11) the stock firmware .257 with to less battery power.
Short Info to my phone when it happened
Sony Xperia SP C5303
Kernel: Dooms v01 (i do not think that this was the problem!)
Bootloader: unlocked
Stock firmware from C5302 version .284
System: deodexed and rooted
When i say flashing i did it always with flashtool because PC Companion and SUS did not recognize my phone at all (with locked bootloader).
My SP was behaving as following.
- When i put the wall charger on the phone nothing happened no lights nothing same if plugged in to the computer.
- If i pressed the power button unconnected the LED flashed red 3 times all the time,
after a while nothing happened anymore (which gave me the indication that the battery is completely empty)
- If i pressed the power button continuous during charging (wall/computer) the red light turned on until i released the power button.
When pressing the Power button long enough during i was connected to the computer the green light turned on and i was in flash mode.
But only for maximum 2 min. This was enough to flash all firmware parts except the system.sin (at ~80 % phone disconnected).
And this was the problem my SP stayed dead.
Before someone asks, standard connecting while pressing the volume down for flash mode or volume up for fastboot mode didn't work.
Now i tryed all:
- Left the phone on the wall charger without doing anything -> nothing
- Left the phone on the computer without doing anything -> nothing
- Left the phone on the wall charger/computer while pressing the power button continuous (did it with a tape) -> nothing except that it went in flash mode and red light again all the time
Now my last try (i was reading this in an X10 thread):
I plugged the phone more than 7 hours to the computer while pressing the volume down button continuously (again taped).
Next morning it first looked like that this also did not work.
But as i disconnected the phone from the computer and plugged in again the red light stayed on.
Ok give it a try i thought and i put the phone to my wall charger for 1 hour or so also here the red light was glowing continuous now.
And yeah i could connect the phone to the computer in the normal way volume down than usb and i was in flash mode.
I was now able to flash the complete stock firmware. After again putting the phone to the wall charger for 1 hour the system was booting :victory: .
And now i saw the problem battery charge in status bar showed 1 % but the firmware start up check showed 55 % .
I remember that i did wipe the battery stats in recovery before all that happened.
No idea if this caused the problem.
However i could now charge my phone and it is still alive relocked and on stock.
Hope this helped and good luck.
To prevent other people from this bad situation i tried to remember exactly what caused the drain of the battery to 0%.
Battery was on 25% at start. (I know this was stupid, i was too impatient as dooms v16 and cwm for locked bootloaders were released :silly
1.I started with trying to update my mobile to stock with PC Companion and SUS,
without thinking about that this will not work with unlocked bootloader. -> first battery drain
2. Got stock FTF for .257 (c5303) and wanted to flash it which did not work got errors always.
My SP was connected flashmode on my notebook a long time while i was trying to fix that (reading XDA, driver config etc).
Several times tried to flash without success.
-> drain, drain and more battery drain not thinking about that i started with only 25%.
3. Gave up on my notebook and connected my phone to the Desktop PC (here the config was ok i knew that from flashing before on that computer).
Meanwhile i assume that my battery was already close to completely empty.
As the flash of the FTF (all parts) started my phone turned off and was "dead", i do not remember on which sin it turned off.
The whole time 1. 2. 3. i never booted i always stayed disconnected or in flashmode.
And than the mess began which i posted in my previous post.
So my SP is officially dead. Need to replace to motherboard.

You should keep pressing that button till your phone's screen goes black and vibrates 3 times if it doesn't do that then either the mobo is dead or the button is broken!
well... that's why I kinda hate sony why not do like most makes do (Like iphone, htc, samsung etc just long press the power button to reset the damn thing! It gets really annoying to keep pulling my case and back cover off and then putting a pencil in that tiny hole in public :/)

watch?v=daNue2RsUbY ( video of my phone with the fading logo )
had the same problem with mines ( i manage to record this fading logo part )
hours later after the record my phone won't even turn on and it only shows that red light popping up when i press the power button
i brought it to sony's service center here and they replaced the battery, that managed to fix it <3
For me pressing the back off button and volume + button force it to fastboot mode. From there just flash a kernel and it is fixed.
which kernel???

Nevermind. I feel so dumb right now

My Xperia is rooted, has recovery and the bootloader is unlocked, I use the stock ROM.
It went smoothly (done it several months ago), but yesterday, the battery emptied so I put it on charge. Today I tried to turn it on, but it didn't work; whenever I press the power button, the LED blinks red. I tried fastboot and flashmode, but none of it works. My PC detects it as an unknown device when I try to turn it on. once
If that helps, it turns on once in a while with CWM.
Anyone can help?
____
EDIT: looks like I used a loose cable and the battery didn't charge at all. God, I feel so dumb.

[Q] i9070 won't power on, won't charge

Hello, I've got problem with my wife's galaxy s advance.
The phone has a latest stock rom, i don't know which one. (chacked in phone for updates like 2 weeks ago and it said that there were none). It was unlocked.
The phone was never flashed or rooted.
It was left with a charger plugged in yesterday for the whole night.
When we wake up, the phone was off.
Now if you plug in the charger it vibrates shortly after three seconds, no light no nothing.
If you press power it also vibrate shortly - nothing more happnes.
I tried to go to download mode or rcovery - nothing.
Tried to plug in to a pc using USB but it is the same...
Any ideas?
Is it only the battery or is the phone dead?
I got some progres
I plugged the phone to my pc with a diffrent cable, there is a plug in and plug out windows sound, the battery indicator shows up for like 5s, it is very low and the pattern starts all over again, i'll just leave it like this and see what happens
Maybe your wall charger is broken, try another one
AntaresOne - of course, I tried like 5 of them...
the phone reacts only in the pc, fter couple of minutes is still doing the "charge loop"
I've checked the USB in my pc and it's the "always on" one, maybe it provides more Ampers?
After an hour or so it stopped "charge looping" and started to just charge
Now is 28% and everything's back to normal.
Case closed

Won't power on

Phone seems to have died on me today...
- was on gallery, screen froze
- after 30-60secs no response, performed powerbutton+volume down reset
- screen went black, however even after holding buttons for about 30 secs, nothing happened.
- at least 60% battery estimated at the time
- recovery mode button combination does nothing as well
- notification led or screen does nothing when USB charge is plugged in allowed up to 30 minutes
- unplugged device, I gave up, had to sleep
- woke up 3 hours after, accidentally left phone under pillow
- phone was warm/hot (supports initial suspicion that phone was stuck doing something probably in the background)
- phone just updated to latest software earlier that morning (not sure if that matters)
- phone has been cold for the past 8 hours now (thinking of allowing it to drain battery)
- tried plugging in earlier for 5 minutes, same result, no screen, logo, notification light
- power, reset, recovery modes no success
Suggestions anyone? (BTW USB on this device has gone out 2 years ago)
Any suggestions will be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
