Of course not, otherwise it would work fine.
I'd recommend to flash stock 2.3.6 KQE first(to get the newest bootloader and modem) then flash the newest TWRP(check which Rom you want before you do that, every Rom has its own recovery hence partition Layouts) through Odin. After that he should be good to go.
Apart from that: This is the development section, not the Q&A forum. Every question regarding flashing has to be made in the corresponding thread.
I'd report this thread, but unfortunetly im using Tapatalk 2. Would be nice if somebody else could do that for me. Thanks.

Need help flashing Roms!

I really have no idea where to start on this. I traded my One X for a rooted Note and I was happy to start flashing roms but then I read that I can hard brick pretty easy. Usually I'm pretty good with following instructions but I don't even know where to start with this. I am on ICS and its rooted. How do I tell if I have a safe kernel? What do I do if I don't? Help a noob out. I've spent quite a bit of time reading the forums looking for answers but I don't even know what I'm looking for.

You could start by telling us what your 'about phone' in Settings says.
We need more info in order to help you out here.

You can read the following thread:
Helpful info on ICS, GB, Bricks, Flashing etc...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659768
This is what my about says. So this is what I gather from reading around, I just flash ANY GB rom, root and then flash a kernel, reboot into recovery and wipe then install the rom?
Sorry about being a noob. There are so many different things about this on here. I don't know what applies to me.

Go back to GB with root like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25285584&postcount=3
Then find the custom Rom you like, carefully read the OP, and follow the installation instructions to the letter - not all of them are the same.
I think you can try Rocket Rom! The best rom i had!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838
eybee provide the full steps(as easy as that)
b2) coming from other rooted Samsung ICS-Custom-ROM or rooted ICS Stock ROM (FullWipe):
- download Abyss Kernel 4.2 from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?c65mndvpk6ocbaa
- put zip-file on your USB-storage
- boot in Recovery
- Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2!!!
- boot back in Recovery (find it under 'advanced')
- now FullWipe!!!
- Flash ROM
- reboot system
-...you are done
Ill try the rocketrom method when I get home. Hopefully I don't end up with a fancy brick. Thanks so much.

we are all here, there's so much to learn.

Flash a new rom

Okay im new and im looking around to find out how to flash a new rom. So i see the thing is i need
- rom manager
- flash clockworkmod recovery.
- press the button to install new rom
**( of course we are supposed to press the button to backup first. whatever i dont need backup if i have everything on dropbox and netqin sync and from there i can have everything i want at any other phone too. i dont care for settings , they are a matter of 10 minutes to download and setup the apps ).
So i try this thing.
1) I go root my phone and i get the first error. SystemBackupTest fails to run. yes i have done it properly according to the guide.
Ok whatever i think. maybe the guide is too old and jelly bean 4.1.2 20b has issues with that apk. i search around and i find the other way to root my phone. i download this file : http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/50635135/file.html, i go into recovery mode and i press root. success! im rooted.
2) since im new i test it out. i start installing whatever i find in google play and start tweaking things ) then i return it back to stock and do other tweaks. now i search for new rom. i read guides here about several rom. i now try it.
i install rom manager , i follow the guide and get error boot image signature. ok i press vol down and power button and restart. i check around here a bit about this error. i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241754. so i see that i have to unlock the bootloader. so i find this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190326. i follow the guide and i fail because i get a message that unlock is denied. searching around i find another thread that sais ROOT MANY ANDROID. oke im confused. i cant find a proper guide around. can we make it a little easier ? can we delete the oldest threads-roots- .. whatever and keep the new ? can we clean up or sort things up please ? the older members of course are pro to all this but the newer ones we dont understand anything. we need one week only to understand where we have to click next......
So for me and any other new guy later on, what do we have to do ? where is a working guide to root the lg optimus 4x v20b and if there is not , then where is a proper guide to unlock the bootloader ? thanks............
Also here ... it sais many many wierd things. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35812268
someone sais where is made from. wt ?? the root guide naver said this is actually for japan, or this is for germany or whatever. every search i do i get to read "new" things scattered around. sort things around. delete old useless threads that get nowhere or pin at start the new ones working on the new firmware. am i wrong ?

2) Don't do anything unless you know what you're doing
3) Use search function (I see you did, but still a lot to learn you have)
4) Don't use Rom Manager
5) Use search function to find out why 1-4 apply.
6) Extra hint: There's an index on the 1st page of "general section".

i have lg optimus 4x p880. os: 4.1.2 - 20b. can someone tell me at least one way to install a whatever rom ?
dont tell me follow the guide or things like that , im following them. just show me links what to do and be sure for those links that will work.
Ok, I'll help you. There's a thread called "unlock-relock tool". Use it once and you're unlocked. Then get TWRP from the TWRP thread. Install it via fastboot. Then download the rom you like, boot to recovery and flash it. That's all.
And for root: There's two different ways for ICS or JB. Use the appropriate one. (4.2.1 is JB, in case you didn't know.)
I don't have the links st hand, but there's this index linked in my signature...

As already stated very often in this forum, xda is not a noobie helpdesk so search and read yourself.

you mean this forum is only for developers and for developers asking help from developers about how to make their new custom rom ? if thats it , then im sorry ill find another forum to ask help. Maybe you are SO pro that you cant help someone without knowledge to unlock the bootloader. But i dont even see anyone else answering too. Maybe indeed the bootloader of 4.1.2 20b cant be unlocked yet and instead you tell me keep searching. Anyway i didnt put up this thread to fight with random people. I need help. If u actually cant help then thank you ill get help from someone that can. its the help section after all , not the world war z.
Hey, I told you how to do it. It's not my fault if you don't understand the tutorials or the software that the devs provide. It's all written down, maybe you should read it after having some sleep

to flash a rom.. yes..
what kind of rom ? is it stock rom ? or custom rom..
stock rom flashed using different tools than custom rom..
to flash custom rom, you need to flash custom recovery first..
to flash custom recovery, you have to unlock the bootloader first...
that's the basic knowledge

vanir rom. cant be more custom xD i pressed: 3845#*880# which is supposed to check bootloader status and gave me the message: error connection or mmi code is not valid.
Now im thinking if i can flash werewolf kernel in use with vanir rom. is it possible or the kernel has to go with specific roms ?
The command you used only works on LG stock roms.
You can use werewolf kernel but you have to use cm10.2 version

How to install TWRP in GT-N7000 with Odin? (and more questions)

Hi, How to install TWRP in GT-N7000 with Odin?
Any tutorial for this? I have the galaxy note version GT-N7000. I would like put into multi-language version. Is it possible? Any Stock ROM for do it this? I would like one ROM with root and multi-language that include chinese and english/spanish. If it is not possible also can serve me CWM recovery.
With this phone, is it possible flash ROM file since custom recovery normally? Or is it necessary see the built version before of flashing? how does it works?
Sorry for my poor english and the stupid questions...
Thank you!!
You can't install twrp. On this device the recovery is implemented in the kernel. As such you would have to compile a kernel using twrp.
As for CWM, look for the "philz" kernel thread.
Also next time be a little less ................. And actually search, or even look at the FAQ or sticky thread.

Hi, a few years later...
I'm trying to do exactly the same thing, to install TWRP on my french GT-N7000
I tried and now I'm with a Note not starting at all and with no recovery.
The screen stay with the white Samsung Galaxy Notes GT-N7000 screen...
You said you did it then I really would like to know how....
Thanks

I can flash my country's stock rom, but I can't flash XXLD3.

Why is that? Any idea/solution?
First of all , why can't you flash it ? Any error messages ?
Second(this might be the problem..), is that firmware for your phone ? ( as you might know , sgm2 can be s6500(with nfc) and s6500d(without nfc) ), you must make sure the firmware is for your phone, also make sure to put in in the PDA collumn in odin.
I've got the non NFC model. Odin's flashing operation fails right after " <<ID:0/003>> fat.bin". I've also tried with s6500DXXMK1 in both odin 1.85 and 3.09.
Can u please G i stop spamming by making a lot of threads u can try to use google 1st then u may askbut not that spammy way and idk what's going on with ur phone and I own my S6500D for about 1½ years and I flashed this rom and was an older version from quite a year ago but went back to stock due to non arabic but now it's better to use Cm10.1 for stabilty or If u dont have mount proplems with cwm 6.0.4.5 use cm11 and if u have whitescreen use cm10.1 build 7/7/2013 (which I'm using right know) and u can do some cool editing by xposed framework and if u dont know what is it google it

Before I start I will say someting ofc start why the fck did u insult me !!!!!!! And wanna ask u a question do u like to see some1 who is spamming the forum with a lot of questions the answer is NO
In topic :to be honest I dont suggest using peter's rom since there is a lot a custom roms better for our device now I used Peter's Rom before there was even a cm9 or 10 for our device but I went back to stock after 2 days of using peter's rom cause it had some bugs so didnt like it for daily usage my opinion is to use cm11 and if u have whitescreen and sdcard0 mount proplems like me go back to cm10.1 and use build 7/7 (which I'm using now) and u can make it better by installing exposed framework and download tinted status bar module and maybe using Avaite launcher will make it cooler and here is a screenshot of how I'm using my phone and sry for writing alot casue my english isnt very good thought.

Look for the guide for using flashtool on the page from @flash-
There are great flashtool guides on xda too. Just read them
2nd
Yeah, that's possible too!
To do so, you need to
- Root your phone with Towelroot
- Backup your TA partition
- Unlock your bootloader
- Install a recovery for Stock Rom
- Flash a Rom. I always take Cyanogenmod 12.1 by Mrcl1450 and AdrianDC. You find it in
XperiaSP/Original Android Development
There are other great Roms on
XperiaSP/Original Android Development
and
XperiaSP/Android Development
Just take what you like or try different roms.
Look in
XperiaSP/General/Xperia SP Lollipop Hub
There are great Rom reviews.
You can find guides to all these things here on XDA. Please read these guides. Then you can have Android 5.1.1

As far as I understand it, XDA is a community of people who want to mod their phones. Themselves. This includes that you read before you ask. Oh you didn't find the answer you were looking for on Page 1? Google again with similar keywords.
Let's think about the number of users who have already used flashtool. Millions! How many of them were noobs in the beginning? Millions!
Can you imagine how often your questions have already been asked? I can't...
There are hundreds of tutorials out there for each and every step of whatever related to mod a phone.
Go and read them! And if something goes wrong, there are thousands of tutorials how to get your phone back to life. I've never heard a phone causing a thermonucleal war because a beginner experimented with it.
Again, sorry for the rudeness of my message, but as you OBVIOUSLY didn't read the "READ BEFORE POST" message of the moderators, I had to tell it to you. That way you won't wonder why noone answers your questions.

It's a firmware downloader. You can download any version you want with it. Usage is tricky sometimes, read the thread.
PS: I think you mixed up the words for read and write
PPS: Don't mix up "update firmware with flashtool" and "open bootloader and install custom rom".

OK, I gotta clear up a few things:
Case A:
You want to Update your current old Sony rom to the latest Sony rom.
- Get Flashtool, get your Firmware from Xperifirm.
- Flash it
Yeah, it's that easy
Case B:
You want to have a newer Android that has not been made by Sony. E.g. you want Android 5.1.1 Cyanogenmod. That's what we call "Custom Rom"!
- Root your phone with Towelroot
- Backup your TA partition
- Unlock your bootloader
- Install a recovery for Stock Rom
- Flash a Rom. E.g. Android 5.1.1 Cyanogenmod
These two things are totally diffetent things!
What could have caused the misunderstanding is that you CAN root your phone in Case A. But you don't have to. You CAN add a Recovery Mode in Case A, but you don't have to.
IF you want a Recovery, take Philz Recovery for Xperia SP.

Ok, at what point of Flashtool are you stuck?
I think downloading the ftf isn't a problem anymore.
Getting Flashtool installed shouldn't be a problem too. The drivers for your device are installed on your PC, right?
Then you are at the point where you have to put your phone in flashmode.
Tell me where you're stuck. The exact point what you can't do!
