Even if the rom is legit, you can't install CWM with a locked bootloader so I'd say no.....

Looking to downgrade from Lollipop 5.0

Hello. I'm not sure if this in the right section if it isn't I'm sorry. Anyways I just recently updated my AT&T Galaxy s5 g900a to lollipop 5.0 and it sucks pretty bad, the color scheme is terrible for my eyes and its just not something I want to get used to. Is there anyway to downgrade back to kitkat on the g900a? If so can you please help, thank you.

If you updated via OTA, unfortunately no, there is no way to downgrade. If you upgraded via a method here on XDA, you should be able to ODIN back to KK. Good luck.

Thanks, I heard that using the s5 with AT&T has a locked bootloader is that a problem or are there ways around that?

Yes it's locked. That's why such a pain to do things. There are workarounds, like safestrap and flashfire, but both of those are limited in what you can flash because of the locked bootloader. You'll have to look around and see what you're most comfortable with. But like I said, if you're using the latest Android version via OTA, there is no workaround that will work. Thanks AT&T

When you root the S6 edge (any variant) PingPongRoot prevents OTA updates from installing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/general/of1-odin-g925v-tars-t3191419
Here is a link to the proper files to update to 5.1.1; just be aware it makes root impossible.

It all depends. I would recomend that before you take the update and permanently lose root, try installing a custom ROM.
There are a variety of custom ROMs available for the Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge. They all outperform the 5.1.1 build.
Try finding one in the following subforum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/development
If one of these ROMs does not perform as well as you expect, just use Odin to install the official firmware.

Are people working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

Thanks, but I have bought the phone already. If I get another one or replace the one I have it'll probably be a European, G870F, the same modell I had before.

You could have rooted before 5.0. If you have the latest bootloader, it can't be done. That is why I suggested getting one that has pre 5.0 stock 4.4.2.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...
poop... i just got one of those and I'm all excited to get the att crap off there and see how much faster it gets... not to mention all the other things you can't run without root.... this ebay "deal" keeps getting worse....

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Hi Sgt.CM,
I got my AT&T S5 on release day and never updated it. I have a SM-G900A with Android version 4.4.2! Is it possible for me to put CM13 with marshmallow 6.0.1 on there? I had assumed it was impossible...
Thanks,
Frozen

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:
http://rootmygalaxy.net/install-cm-13-rom-on-galaxy-s5/
http://androiding.how/download-galaxy-s5-cm13-rom-marshmallow/
I'm guessing they may not be correct?

There is no root meethod for the AT&T bootloader therefore no root. If you had used the search you would have found dozens of other people asking the same thing.
If anyone discovers a method how to root that phone you can be sure it will be published here and everybody will now. For now all I can refer you to is my thread on how to update the phone to the latest Marshmellow update (but that might prevent you from installing any root that is based on Lollipop in the future).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g870a-updates-ph4-t3494717
EDIT: Actually there is a root method https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...w-to-update-to-g870aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3161733 for very old firmware versions. Still there are no custom roms that I know of.

Thanks a lot for reply, after a looooong search I have found this: http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s5-active-to-lollipop-root-it-and-enable-wifi-tethering/

Thanks a lot again.

You can but you will lose root. There is currently no root method for Marshmallow.
Hello.
I was just wondering how exactly you did this? You downgraded to 5.0, and rooted from there? Can you explain to me what you did to root the G870A?

I imagine you are on the latest Nougat since we can't stop the upgrade/update... Rooting was only available on older versions like 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The S4. I figure it's a better device to start with than bricking my S6 Edge. Lol. I can't free up the bootloader on the S4 though I got it rooted but bootloader isnt unlocked
Verizon locks the bootloader on their phones
