Guys, I'm facing a very unusual issue.
Tried today to flash a pre-rooted .270 rom on my C6903 (running a pre-rooted .242)
After flashing, it didn't boot at all. Black screen and a single vibrate.
I can repair it using the PC companion. I can even flash C6903_14.1.G.1.534_NUT and get recovery working again with Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15
I thought that maybe the zip was corrupted, so i downloaded the rom using xperifirm, and created a pre-rooted flashable zip with PRF creator.
The result was the same: black screen.
Did it 2 more times, with another customized version and with the fw downloaded by the PC Companion. Result: black screen.
Then i said, ok, i'm not getting .270 today, so let's restore the nandroid backup.
After restoring the nandroid backup, the same result: black screen.
Googled a lot for my issue, but haven't found anything.
I don't believe i'm that lucky to be the very first one with this nasty problem.
Has anyone faced anything like this?
Thank you!
What happens if you downgrade to 108 and root it, does it all work fine? What did you add into your Pre-root firmware?
I have not tried .108, i downgraded toC6903_14.1.G.1.534_NUT, and everything worked just fine.
In the pre-root i added only the supersu and the recovery (Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15).
But bothers me the most is that i cannot restore my .242 backup.
I'm thinking that maybe PC companion overwritten the TA partition during the repairing process.
Is it possible?
You cannot go to 5.02 from 4.2.2, you have to be at least on 4.4 which might be why you were having your problem. As for the repair option I cannot comment on that as I do not know enough about rooting and TA partition.
Hmm, i didn't think of that.
But what about the nandroid back-up?
Do i need to be at least at .108 to restore it? It doesn't make any sense.
Thank you!

I do not know about the Nandroid backup, all I know is that you need to be on atleast 108 to upgrade to 5.0.2.
I'll try that tomorrow.
Thanks again!
Downgraded to .108, rooted and installed recovery.
I was able to restore my nandroid backup.
Then i dirty flashed .270 and everything is just fine, all my apps and settings were preserved.
Thanks again!

Hi, I'm running Benny's 4.3 (build number 3.04.651.2) Deodexed (because i do not see any .odex files in the system folder, right?) and I want to flash the update which keeps popping up in the notifications every 24 hours after clearing app data.
I tried doing the OTA update but my phone goes into TWRP. My biggest concern is flashing the stock rooted update because my phone really isn't rooted. I have SuperSu on the phone and sometimes I get "SuperSu has been granted permission" or something like that but Root Checker app says the phone does not have proper root access. I don't really know what is going on because I took my phone to a repair center to get it unlocked shortly after i got the official OTA 4.3 update. I read that you need to downgrade to 4.1 and then unlock the phone through SimUnlockHelper apk. When I got my phone back everything was working as it should and my phone is indeed unlocked.
My biggest concern is flashing a stock rooted rom because of the fact that my phone does not have proper root access. Would you recommend doing this and are there any precautions I should be aware of because I had nothing to do with rooting or tweaking android before since this is my first phone that runs android officially.
Thanks!

use the backup feature in twrp to make a nandroid and flash a stock rooted 4.3 rom. if it doesn't work restore your backup. if u need any info the sticky thread at the top of this section by bd19 will really help. read thoroughly. fyi you cannot ota with a custom recovery (twrp) you need stock recovery.

^This is the safest option @Andza195
BTW, imo, it should work, but just backup just in case. Also, if something doesn't work, the real best method is just to download the newest version of the ROM, back (everything that's important to you) up, wipe everything in TWRP except Internal Storage (because this is where the flashable .zip is at!) and flash the ROM fresh.

Download file, then unzip. Run BAT file and follow screen directions. You will end up with three recoveries to choose from.
Need help
Hello, i'm newbie here, trying to learn some stuff, i searched the forum but i couldn't find it, i think this page is most appropriate to post it here.
Well i want to flash a custom rom, but my first attempt went not good for me. I've lost my imei and panicked, anyway by flashing stock sony rom i recovered it.
Now i unlocked my bootloader again (it was locked again after i flashed my stock firmware back), rooted my phone, and learned that nandroid app can make a full backup, and even i screw things up (except hard bricking i guess), that backup will save me. So i downloaded it made a full back up, but it says "back up type: clockwork or TWRP,"
And i heard that TWRP is not for Xperia Z1. Thats why i decided to not install it,
Then i installed clockwork rom manager, it said "this app requires clocwork recovery", but i couldnt find a appropriate version of clockwork recovery, the ones i found on play store were for android 4.0.4, and mine is 4.4.4
You guys probably understand that i know almost nothing about this stuff, (i have only got what i read form forums), so what should i do, which version of clockwork should i install or is there any other supported apps that i can use my nandroid backup?
Soka, i checked your link but couldnt be sure about which link should i click.
And another question, do i still need titanium backup while i have nandroid?
Thanks in advance
My device is C6903
4.4.4
14.4.A.0.157
CWM Recovery
There two methods:
1. Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel (Bootloader Unlock is required for flashing custom roms which are not stock based; for example cyanogenmod)
-> with a custom kernel you have cwm and often twrp also.
2. check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development/newroot-z1-t2807092
maybe you have to flash .108 kernel to use newroot, after rooting you can flash the actually kernel from your firmware....

Hi there bro...
In the Link ...
Check this out ...
http://prntscr.com/4ow7hp ... download the one the red arrow is pointing at. Unzip and run BAT file. When Prompted onscreen connect device to PC.
This will install recoveries and an app called NDR Utils. With this app you can choose the primary recovery of your choice.
I prefer using Philz...(CWM) based. Important rule i've always followed make backups ( Nandroid).
Anyone has a backup file of Lollipop for the XT1063 on twrp? Thanks.
bump
If you haven't already found it i posted a link to mine in another thread. My install was buggy tho.
I'm looking for a Nandroid of a clean stock KK for the xt1063.
I tried restoring to a lollipop twrp backup result = black screen (atleast that what happend to me)
You did the OTAa first?
Hey guys,
So I wanted to upgrade to 5.1.1 and I saw a couple of ROMs for 5.1.1 that I was interested in flashing. So I chose this one > http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/rom-one-solution-debloated-xposed-t3164221
When I wiped, and then went to install it gave me an error, md5 error or something, but it seems it had already wiped my stuff.
So my phone was bricked and I could not get it past the initial Sony Xperia screen AT ALL. The only solution I found was to use "Emma" and recover it by resetting to factory. In doing so however, Emma installed a Stock 5.1.1, which booted no problems at all. Fantastic. Now I am on 5.1.1, unrooted, and inability to install or boot into a recovery to flash my backup.
Here's my problem, every single time I try to downgrade my Firmware back to Lollipop 5.0.2, or KitKat even, it either freezes at random places, like this > http://puu.sh/jRHEj/f3da0dfcfa.png
OR it finishes the flash on some Firmwares I have tried, but then I'll be stuck in a boot loop. I just cannot seem to have ANY luck trying to get my recovery back!
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong to get no success at all in downgrading from 5.1.1? Are there any methods to get into recovery in 5.1.1? Mine doesn't seem to ever work.
Is there a way to flash or install a backup that I did in TWRP without a recovery menu or no? Just want it all back to normal for now, 5.1.1 can get lost for the time being, screwed me over bad.

Try flashing the firmware ( ftfs ) using a different computer. If that doesn't help you can consider one of two options
1) Unlock your bootloader, that way all you need to do is download a custom kernel that comes with a recovery and flash any rom you like therefore removing the need for flashtool
2) Send your phone to Sony if you prefer not to unlock the bootloader and let them fix it but it might cost you
*Also take note if you downgrade to Lollipop ( 5.0.2 ) as I know there are no methods on how to root it yet unless coming from Firmware .93 which is a Kitkat firmware.

Hey Revo, thanks a lot for your reply dude. Appreciate you taking the time out of your day. I managed to flash a .93 kit kat, when I go to install TWRP via adb fastboot, my phone boots up with no image. I can hear sound and touch screen works but I have no picture. Super weird, had to reflash again to kitkat to restore picture. My bootloader is Unlocked already, so how effectively, on kitkat .93, can I get TWRP installed to recover my old backup? What's the easiest way from here?

If you have your bootloader unlocked, you can just flash custom kernel via Flashtool, that would be AndroPlus kernel and you'll have a custom recovery

Nice, got that done and just finished restoring my own backup, AHHHHHHHHHH my phone is back. Technology is freaky as hell man. Crazy crazy world we live in.
I really wish I could click one button and donate money evenly amongst all you insane people that write awesome awesome tutorials for what I assume is like, non-profit? It's mental. Wouldn't have my phone back right now if it wasn't for this forum. It's just unreal. SO happy right now.
So if anyone knows at all, million dollar question. What's now the safest possible option, if ANY, to get from 5.0.2 rooted, to 5.1.1 rooted? To keep all my data I am obviously going to have to backup up all my photos/music/contacts/sms etc onto my PC or online in a mysterious cloud, but what's the best steps now to safely get to 5.1.1 rooted, with no hassle? Or is it even worth it at this point?

Now you just have to download a prerooted 5.1.1 rom and flash it through recovery and that is all. Full wipe is recommended before that of course (data, cache, dalvik, system)
Hello,
I rooted my phone, installed SuperSu, Xposed with Xprivacy, etc. and everything works fine. Except SMS. I didnt noticed first because I dont wirte much SMS. I read others have the same problem. But I didnt find a real solution. They reflashed or Wiped everything (not allways a success) and on my phone ohter SMS apps doesnt work neither. I dont want to setup everything again if possible.
Is there no FIX/Patch which I can flash or a simple workaround ?
Regards liqui
Flash back to 4.4.4 ( i used .93 fw ) , root and install xzdr , create a new flashable rom with prf creator 1.1 ( None Below! ) including fotakernel kernel and modem. Wipe data, do a factory reset via TWRP And flash the newly created clean rom.
Seems prf creator 1.0 wasnt able to handle the modem files... :/
Hi,
I flashed the 5.1.1 agian because I didnt want to wait. This time it works. Did nothing different then the first time

By that you mean you flashed the latest ftf via flashtool?
I'm asking because I have the same problem, except one specific third party app is working, while another doesn't.
Thanks in advance
Hangouts figures to work, but in fact it doesn't. You can recognise it by switching back to stock messaging app, then the "send" SMS are gone. The solution I gave already. That's the simplest way to fix it with Bootloader locked, otherwise root will be lost. UB devices should fix it by flashing the actually used fw by flashtool with a full wipe, flashing a kernel with including recovery. Now just flash the latest SuperSU via recovery
You are totally right, I just hoped there would be another, simpler way. But I got it working again yesterday using your advice. After a little bit of ol' try 'n error I'm convinced it had something to do with the data partition, because when I restored the TWRP-backup, SMS function was lost again, but could be recovered by another wipe. That said, I first was on a prerooted firmware created with PRFC 1.1 and latest firmware but flashed SLiM ROM by wajk over that, so I don't know if the error lay within that ROM, but I'm not in the mood to try any time soon.
Cheers
