Hello Comunity,
I gues the title quite say it, but... I have a Sony Xperia Z1 C6943 with an android version 4.4.4 (KitKAT) Build Number: 14.4.A.0.157 rooted
Reacently, sony has launched the update to android 5.0, but, for what I read, if you do so, you lose root.
Is there a way to update the OS without losing root?
Tnhank you a lot XDA Developers!

Hi guys,
I am new here, so be gentle .....
My Xperia T (LT30p) is running stock Android 4.3, build 9.2.A.205.
I wanted to update it to Android 4.4 KitKat Omni ROM firmware, but can not find out how to root this build.
Any idea please?
I considered using the one click method from android.gs but my build is not listed.
HELP!
Thanks
Chris
Download app Towelroot from here
https://towelroot.com/
Install it on your phone, run it and in one click you can root your phone.
Recently I bought a Sony Xperia Z1 that came with Kitkat. It is worth to upgrade to the Lollipop 14.5.A.0.270 or it is better to stay with Kitkat?

Click to collapse
In my opinion its better to unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom
As long as you don't want to unlock your bootloader you could safely upgrade to .270 and root your phone using kingoroot( then remove it using some scripts and install supersu)
Or just stay at .270...
You can also downgrade it back to KK using Flashtool if you don't like lollipop..
Lollipop has some issues (depends sometimes .... ) but for me its better than KK..
Also we are currently waiting the new official 5.1 rom which will fix most of the issues (I hope so)
Stay with KK
IMO It is better to use KitKat with this phone. You can tweak the hell out of it and play with multiple roms. The stock rom for Lollipop on this phone is a joke. You could quite easily use the same software running on z3 roms on this phone.
But for now I have one recommendation. This is my fave rom for Kitkat.

In my Z1 default android was v4.2 Jelly Bean and now i would like to use MIUI 7 which needs kitkat 4.4. I would like to know that it is safe to downgrade to kitkat 4.4.4 from Lollipop 5.1.1?
And how i can find correct version of kitkat firmware for my Z1? Although i have "C6902_14.4.A.0.108_Generic IN.ftf" . Is this correct firmware for my Z1 ?
Please suggest..
Hi all. Now I bought a Xperia Z C6603, tired of my Galaxy S3 GT-i9300.
It's branded and customized by Orange operator, and it's currently running 4.4.4.
I want to debrand the debloat the phone, but I'm wondering about the benefits of upgrading to newer Android versions.
Do the phone get faster? Slower? Do the battery last longer? Or shorter?
I'd appreciate your comments.
Thanks all.
the latest official ROM of Z is Lollipop 5.1.1 .222 or .228 firmware version (in my country is .222) wich in my opinion is the fastest official ROM but not a battery friendly.
If you wanna go higher, just root, unlock your bootloader, install latest TWRP and flash LOS 7.1.2. This ROM is nice.
Don't forget to backup your TA partition before unlocking.
