I had a HTC One S earlier.
The One S 8mp camera was better than the Z 13mp.wtf
But the sonys camera is way quicker.
I would be happy that this is a software bug and not hardware problem
Are you happy with your Z's camera?

My camera is excellent in good light outdoors but pies poor in low light shots my Xperia t blows it away, could be fault on my handset? My Xperia 10 takes on par photos in low light, very disappointed with the camera wish I just kept the Xperia t
http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/DSCWX10_guide/eng/contents/03/04/03/03.html
This explanation is from the manual:
In [Superior Auto] mode, the camera shoots burst images based on the recognized scene, then creates a composite of the burst images (Overlay shooting).
The camera automatically corrects the backlight and reduces the noise by overlaying images, so a higher-quality image results than in [Intelligent Auto] mode.
So what's the best settings to be on superior auto? What about focusing is the square supposed to go green mines blue all my other Sony's are green, can you post the best settings for everyday use please
thanks
all info is all over the internet

the camera on my htc one x is much better and quicker than the experia z, also disappointed, tried many settings on the z but i just wanna take a pic quick when my little girl does something funny, not **** about with every setting on the phone taking 20 pics to get 1 good one, so far, pretty annoying and poor
The camera is poor in any low light situation been trying the camera out all day the camera is very disappointing indoors, prob gonna sell mine. Had high hopes for this phone its worse than the Xperia t camera I own

Strange, all of the picture samples and youtube tests show that it has great low light camera performance. Why do you think it's bad? I currently have an xperia x10, i can not believe the low light picture quality is the same. Even my sister's xperia u has much better low light performance than my x10.

It's normal that the pictures come out more blurry in low light. Maybe you should try turning off image stabilization, that helped a lot on my x10. I've seen low light pictures of the xperia z vs the iphone 5 where the colours of the z were more vibrant. So maybe your settings are wrong, the lens is dirty or you had unrealistic expectations?
Hey guys, although sony improve on the sharpness of the camera quality, i found a serious problem. Picture taken are really really over exposed.
Not mentioning superior auto, even normal modes. I compared it side to side with quite a number of phones, S3, S4 & even xperia ion.
What happened. Is it the new firmware or i need to do a clean wipe? Even my wife's xperia z has this problem
I have the same problem, pictures taken by the xperia Z have many visible grainy dots, and when I enlarge to 100% on my laptop the matters get worse, compare to my sister's htc one 4mp camera the xperia Z's performance is really disappointed, may be something wrong with the software
Very picture taken is too bright. Very bright
It s about software fortunately and I guess Sony will solve it by 4.2.2 update cause camera need to be changed 100% in it.
(redesign completely )
And I get better quick pic with small app camera

Especially when ur taking pic of ppl, the scenes mode keep switching and pictures taken were overly bright or washed out. Had to use a 3rd party camera app , so many problems..
From wi-fi , washed out screen, mic muting problems, now overly exposed camera ...
I followed from Sony Ericsson w800 till now and every flagship from sony Ericsson to sony. Every models has problems. Yellow tint, bla bla... Very tired.
You mean the problem will be solved in 4.2?
Or thats how camera behaves when taking pic of ppl faces? The scenes will radomly flicker and background would be overly bright, even the faces are very bright and washed out. Does anyone experience this issue?
The xperia z have a very serious problem with it's camera I will upload a photos after 30 min

These two are the photos that i talked about them. the 21.jpg is for 434 and the 51.jpg is for the 253
Yes, thats the problem exactly i am facing, overly bright and exposed pic. So confirmed its because of the new .253 software .?
I suspect it's the changes in the built props or the mediaprofiles, as I see camera version is still the same as. 434, still ver 1.00
Any one can confirm or modify it?
yes the camera is a big problem the colors look bad
and the flash is way to weak compared to other phones

Do you mean when you use flash light? just close it, i found the pictures are in light blue. What's your rom, if you update to 253, it would be improved. but i cannot deny that the quality of camera is not good.
sony will release a new update 10.1.1.A.1.307 .... it's in the "xperia blog .com"
Yep, i saw it too.. Hopefully .307 really solves the problem. Its certified in the 29th, hopfully would be released within these few days
Hi folks!
I bought SP couple of days ago and have upgraded to 4.3. I have been previously using Xperia Ray which has 8MP camera. After shooting different photos in different light conditions (low light, outside, inside), it seems that SP shoots mediocre photos. I have tried SP's superior auto mode as well as manual mode with different ISO settings, nothing seems to help the image quality.
Here is the link to public dropbox folder containing few SP pictures - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zar4xykqq4p3k1h/AADY4dfkscywQNFz7WJPHeb2a?dl=0
Camera quality is the only let down of SP, everything else is great. But, I am not willing to sacrifice on photos quality. I was wondering if ZR is any better in that department? Can it shoot better photos than SP?
From GSMArena image quality compare tool, it seems that SP camera is better - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zar4xykqq4p3k1h/AADY4dfkscywQNFz7WJPHeb2a?dl=0
What is your experience with ZR? Do you like it's camera?
yes absolutely. XZR camera is way better than XSP. I had XSP before. but now I switched to XZR as XSP wont go beyond 4.3 update.

Yup your argument is based on what Sony or other device testing webpage told us. Don't think me wrong it is completely natural to believe and valid to affirm. However, I had these two phones in the past, and based on my observation (not even formally tested LOL), XSP did PAR with XZR in terms of camera department. I got so frustrated that......I.......(dumped my phone, you say?:laugh......switched to a Z2.:good::good:

Hello guys, I updated my Xperia Z's firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 (292) a week ago. I really like the update, its much smoother, but I noticed that the camera is really poor even in the outdoor with less light exposure (its fine with good light exposure). I see theres too much color noise, it destroys every photos. And the indoor is much worse, moreover if i use the front camera. I used to very love taking pictures with my lovely XZ, but never save any with 4.4.4 camera . 4.4.4 camera is unlike the camera in the 4.4.2 with much lesser noise and unnoticeably color noise at all. I took random pictures and loved it so much. I wanna know if I could replace the 4.4.4 camera software with the 4.4.2 ones. Could it be by Flashing the 4.4.2 camera software/system to my 4.4.4 firmware or something? and how? Please help. Thank you so much developers..
Regards Dhicky.

Im sure 100% that the camera is different dude , i have tried to take photos with the 4.4.4 cameras, front and rear one, and the saved it to my pc, then I reflashed it back to 4.4.2 and took pics using both camera too. Then I compared it. Its clear that the 4.4.4 brings more color noise. so now I'm using 4.4.2.

Hello,
I've noticed some "artifacts/noise", with a recursive pattern, in some photos of the Sony Xperia Z3 in "some" smartphone websites (I don't know if I can say the names ).
They were made in manual mode 20mpx.
Are there updates/firmware for the camera that have improved the final result versus the early reviews?
Thanks a lot.
Looking in deep, they seems JPEG artifacts... how can Sony ruin Z3 photos like this?
The Sony Z3 Compact camera is anyways a ****ty hardware and the software that is hard protected by the DRM keyes is also a turd. Compared to my 5 years old iPhone 4S, the all new Sony phone makes very very bad photos. Less quality, no real color, too much noise, slower focusing, bad contrast and the HDR doesnt makes anything...
So I am sitting here and just waiting for the end of my carreer contract, when I will change this horrible phone to something usable.
****ty hardware? really?
The only problem with the phone is the software, automatic mode is a joke. If you have very bad photos with this phone it's either a faulty unit or your fault (by using auto). Hopefully with android 5.0 coming they tweak the auto mode so people who can just point and shoot will be happy with the device - for me RAW DNG is already enough

I've tried a few Z3 compacts and Z3's and the results of the camera are pretty bad. Very noisy, autofocus is total hit or miss, and my biggest blunder is that all reddish colors come out with a funky purpleish tone in the pictures. The software is also pretty abysmal and unnecessarily complicated. Even my nexus 5 a year after the updates takes much more natural looking pictures although AF still sucks.
There's just something wrong with the hardware+software stack of the Xperia Z series and Sony needs to get up with the program if they want to compete. The current experience pales in comparison to the cameras of the iPhone or the Note4/Galaxy S5 which are fantastic. It would be ok if this was not supposed to be a flagship, but it is such a thing.
No man just no. The hardware is completely fine. The software is not upto par. The same Sony lenses are used by other manufacturers and they achieve good results. This 20.7 will be used on HTC M9 next probably and you'll see whether it's the problem with the hardware or software
Very noisy = turn down the ISO sensitivity, it's no APS-C or Full Frame sensor - but probably Sony's mess while on Auto
Autofocus is total hit or miss - Again, this one is not that visible on my unit, even in poor lit conditions makes a few misses, but in daylight never.
Magenta tint? nope, not here.
However without arguing the stock camera app needs improvemrnt, I am taking pictures with Camera FV-5 and those are great.

At the moment, you can't. As you can see, I already wrote that feature will come in Android 5.0, and if Sony's camera won't support it, others will. Camera FV-5 already has the option.
No updates for the camera AKAIK, which sucks because it is not great right now. Pink spot, crummy white balance, almost unuseable "superior auto", funky reds, poor shutter speed selection, stupidly complicated software, and appalling jpeg processing that leaves 20MP photos in particular looking like they were saved at 30% quality.
One of the main reasons i bought the z3c was for the camera, but those reviewers who sang its praises must have been smoking something (or paid by Sony). I hope the Lollipop update brings some improvement.
Same here, I had very high hopes coming from iPhone 5 but I already miss how easy it was to take a photo with that.
There are no jpeg artifacts, only artifacts from excessive artificial sharpening.
The jpeg quality must actually be quite high here, considering the ~9 MB size of the full-res photos.
