Wife's 2013 XT1053 spontaneously reboots - Moto X Q&A

The phone is running stock 4.4.4 and is not rooted. She's had it about 15 months. In the last 4 or 5 days, it has spontaneously rebooted 3 or 4 times, sometimes while running an app but at least once when it was idle. She hasn't added any new apps recently and has about 4.4GB free storage (it's the 16GB model.) I have the same phone, same configuration (mine is only about 6 months old) although our app list is not identical and I have not experienced this.
Any ideas?

Anyone else finding their nexus 7 is still.....

Smooth as butter and lightening fast?
With all I have read on different forums about people saying their nexus has slowed down, crashes etc. I have to say mine is still as fast as it was from the day I took it out of the box.
Its not rooted, just pure!
Anyone else still having day one speed?

Personally, no, but I got the launch day 8GB model, so while keeping fstrim running from time to time keeps my experience pretty good, I do notice a degradation. I think this issue was largely limited to one production ROM, and mine isn't terrible on a bad day either.
Yes, mine is 16gig and still running great pure stock...

Mine is one of the first batch 8gb and is still as smooth and fast as on the first day. It is rooted and I use custom roms. Currently on Codefire.

My nexus runs like it did on day one as long as I stay away from ports, ports slow me down and destroy battery life but its not my tablet because official Roms are smooth.
Got the 32GB version when it was launched. I remember it being smoother, it tends to hang for 0.5-1 seconds sometimes
Maybe it's because I got a more powerful device and I started seeing lag differently...
Mine got really slow after the update to 4.2.
I recently did a factory reset, after that it was running smooth again, I also disabled Current (background sync)...
Now I am running 4.3 and used the fastboot ADB method, so I installed the factory image, basically a reset again... it is running fast like I got it the first day!
Pretty fast, I flash my nexus 7 once in awhile.
Beamed from my Grouper
4.3 is running great and it charges faster than the previous os versions.

My n7 is about 6 months old. Has been out for repair twice. Never rooted or romed. Got it back about a week ago and is smooth sailing so far.
my screen isn't big. yours is just to small. note 2
My N7 16GB is running great. Its a year old now and I've loved every minute with it. After installing 4.3 I'm reconsidering whether or not I should get the new one. I already have someone lined up at work to sell it to, but not so sure I should now....
Hmmm..... decisions, decisions...
After 9 mounths of medium to heavy use, my nexus 7 is still quite fast, sometimes it lags, but overall very satisfying
Mine is several months old and I love it. Every time I reach for a tablet I never know if I should grab my N7 or iPad 3.
Only thing right now is that I don't know anything about 4.3. Not sure how well it runs on the N7 and not sure if I should flash it manually or wait for an OTA.
Nice thing is if you are rooted you can flash 4.3 and if you don't like it you can flash 4.2.2 back

Maybe it's the placebo effect but 4.3 feels faster, smoother and more responsive. On 4.2.2 I was definitely seeing performance issues, and I also definitely saw a vast improvement after using .nomedia files in basically every folder that Android had no business scanning. I did this because the Android media server was consistently on the top 3 of the most battery-intensive tasks on my tablet, and the .nomedia files sorted this out for me. The difference was like night and day. So yeah, my tablet is still in top condition.
i've never had any serious lag issues outside of the normal android go-to-go stuff... but i've always had like 20gb of free space haha
either way, my 1st gen is more than satisfactory and the experience will not change in a noticeable fashion by upgrading to th\e latest devide, so imma keep rocking it till it dies probably
I'm perfectly happy with my 32G...only problem I've had was after installing "PureCrapNonEnhancer" or whatever it was called... Because of that, I had to completely go back to stock (which was 4.3 in today's learning experience) and now it's better than ever! I won't be "upgrading" unless I win one from somewhere...

My 16GB I bought in August is fairly laggy. Always ran stock. Must have factory reset it 6 times and still not as smooth as the first month I had it.

My 16Gb N7 Wifi is just fine. Sometimes it is a bit slow but rarely. Considering how much widgets I have and that I use TSF Shell which takes a lot of RAM, I am very satisfied with it's performance (and battery!). It was a bit faster with 4.1.1 whici is IMHO the fastest Android for N7, but things got a bit better with 4.2.2 and now 4.3 (although still not as good as 4.1)
Been to repairs once, it was rebooting constantly, since then good.
Mines always been really smooth except when it was full tho the brim with content.

Split screen

The screen will split right down the middle top to bottom. Half will be the game or app i am in and other half is home screen...
Its weird it did it on 5.0.1 while watching YouTube. Now on 5.1 it no longer does it on YouTube but does it randomly while playing bejeweled game and a few apps (chase bank,XDA,Facebook).. By pushing power button off and on fixes it... Anyone wish to explain.... This is the only issuing I am having....... Already uninstalled and reinstalled apps.....

It's a common nexus 6 issues, the screen freezes, get the phone replaced,
There is also a workaround of using lean kernel which remedies the problem.
Ultimately, I'd get the phone replaced to have to problem resolved once and for all.

I went ahead a uninstalled the bejeweled game my friend has the game as well and it was causing something to go wrong with his phone not exactly the same problem and was having issues with his wells Fargo and Facebook... He has the note 4 since then he hasn't had any recurring issues that he had with the bejeweled game . If it acts up again then I will exchange it...
My major issue with exchanging the phone for one problem is I get another phone with a far worse problem unless they give me one that is brand new and not refurbished... I had Samsung Galaxy s3 that had a issue, exchanged it that one had a totally different problem it was refurbished and was given another refurbished and yet again finally I raised a fit and they gave me one brand new out of box.......

This phone, G4, ? or wait?

Little bit about my Android history:
Had the OG Droid on VZW for a while and really loved the phone. It worked well and was a solid option.
Went to AT&T to get an iPhone for me and my wife...6 months later VZW got the iPhone and I wished I had never switched (had unlimited data on VZW, missed that boat with the carrier switch).
Used the 3GS for 2 years and liked, but didn't really love it.
Got a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (the first LTE Galaxy) and loved it...at first. Went on a business trip and everything went to hell. Drained the battery twice in an 8 hour work day (had a decent signal), phone started rebooting randomly and heating up. Switched back to the 3GS for the remainder of the trip. Came home, flashed to stock and it was fine...until I went on vacation, then I had the same issues.
Used the 3GS until I got a 5S. Using that now.
Really want to get back to Android. I like it a lot and the Nexus seems like a solid phone. Do I switch to it, the G4, something else, or wait? Based on what I'm seeing, one of my lines has an upgrade available (I refuse to rent my phone through the installment plans), so I can use that upgrade to replace my phone.
I know this is really a decision for me to make, I'm just looking for opinions. Being that this is the Nexus 6 forum, I fully expect for it to win; and I'm ok with that

I just got the Nexus 6 on yesterday. The last Nexus I had was the Galaxy Nexus. I just came from the S6 and I couldn't be happier. The S6 was a disaster and the last time I checked the G4 still has root issues. Get the Nexus 6 and happy flashing!

I did read 1 comparison of the G4 with the Nexus last month when the G4 came out and in testing, though the screen on the G4 (according to the reviewer) was slightly better, and it had the removable battery and SD card capability the battery life on the Nexus 6 was far better (like 2 hours+ better).
That alone was pushing me to the Nexus 6 (still not convinced that my issues with my Skyrocket weren't due to the SD Card). Well, that was among the items anyway.

Does Your 2nd Nexus 6 Get as Warm as your First ?

I returned to Amazon a Nexus 6 that was getting very warm in basic usage so much so that it was very uncomfortable using the phone without the speaker as it was too warm on my ear.. I now have new Nexus 6 and it is not anywhere as warm as the previous one (29 days older) is. Is there that much of a difference between Nexus 6 Models ? Immediately I noticed on charging the new one did not get near as warm as the old one and even running the Antutu benchmark it only got to 32C ??? I cannot think of any configuration difference as both were bootloader unlocked and had the identical apps installed?
I guess my question would be.. Is the QA of these phones that different such that my experience would occur or is it strictly a unique experience on my part?

What's the longest period your Android Smartphone has lasted?

I often have small debates with IPhone users who speak highly of how well their iPhone is built and runs.
For them it is clear simplicity is the key.
I'm keen to hear how long your Android phone has lasted (including handing it down to the kids or other family)
For me, my kids have been using the HTC One XL and still going strong.
I'm approaching my 4th year with the HTC M8. Heavy use and battery life is still good. Yes I have to clear the cache, but I do look after them well.
On a side note, my Samsung tablets always stretch to get 2 years moderate use out of them. Probably the plastic build and Samsung software .But with 4 kids I have multiple devices and 2 different model Galaxy Notes 10.1 and 8 inch have issues.
Anyways, keen to hear other people's experience.

I got my my LG G3 for two years.
Looking good, works flawlessly!
3 years with xiaomi
no scratches
run smoothly
4 years + and running , Xperia Active ....
3 years. My Kindle Fire 2nd gen was my go-to tablet back in 2013-2016 (got it for xmas 2012 i think) but in 2016, I hard bricked it after flashing a 1st gen Kindle bootloader.
So far two years and counting on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. The phones before it only lasted for a year and half tops (I am responsible for one of them though, lol).
oh man so many droids. max 1 year i think
My Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is I think 13 years old
Rooted, custom ROM and I still own it and it still works great. It sits in my dresser drawer and I haven't turned it on in a year or maybe two but I guarantee if I charge that battery it will fire up and work perfectly

I almost forgot, my white Galaxy S5
SM -G900T is still my main phone since I bought it new and its been 3 years. Its been rooted but stock OS, its been left on the roof of my car and and fell onto a main Blvd in Los Angeles just down the street from the Fabulous Forum where the Lakers and Kings used to play and now is used for concerts and a show just let out and the phone was run over I don't know how many times in the left turn lane at a main intersection of two large streets (4 lanes wide each direction) and I didn't know it was gone for about 30 mins and drove back 10 mins to look for it because the tracking was working and showed its location but I couldn't see it from all the traffic. Plus its white and black armor body guard made it look like a white lane marker glued into the street. I finally found it about 15 more minutes later and the Zagg glass screen saver was shattered, the Armor body protector had tire marks on it but the phone was still working and that was when it was only 6 months old and I am using it now to type this post. Hahahahahahahahahaha

I gave my S3 I9300 to my dad and he's still using it, so a little over 5 years.
I'm still using my Note 3, which is just under 4 years old now.
Currently at 1 year and its slowly falling apart. I'm just too clumsy with it always being on my table and then hitting it with my elbow so that it flies across the room
More than 3 years with S4 i9500 and it's still alive, even after my brother handles it; with only network problems.
