[Q] Camera "could not save" - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A few days ago I keep getting the error in my camera app "could not save".
I tried the front and back camera, doesn't work.
It only happens when I try to save to the SD card, internal storage is perfect.
I unmounted the card, restarted my phone, cleared the data/cache of my camera app, and still nothing.
This is a 64GB microsd, so it's not easy to just go out and buy a new one.
But I did take it out and copy all of my photos to my computer. Worked flawlessly. I had no problem reading/writing.
What's also really strange, is when I take a pic and have it saved to internal memory, then TRANSFER it to the SD card, it works.
It still shows up, and the photo is not corrupted. Could my phone be... in need of an RMA? This is an emergency, my warranty is up in 2 weeks exactly.

I had the same problem. I changed SD write permissions by Root Explorer and now Camera can save to SD.

SD Card issues...

Hi,
Ive got a problem with my sd card. I restart the phone and I can see in gallery all photos done (all saved on sd card)... When I open the cam app, it also shows me the last taken pic. After I took few picĀ“s, I can see them aas long as the cam app is still running from preview mode but when I go back to home screen and start gallery its empty and says sd card not insert or ready. At this point the cam app although says no sd card insert...
Whats wrong?!

Camera storage location, will not save to SD

Anyone else having trouble getting the camera app to save to SD? If I change the storage setting to internal, take a pic, then change it back to SD, and take a pic, it will actually go to SD. Then, I wait an hr, take a pic, it goes to internal even though SD is still selected! Very frustrating. I am on stock rom. I've tried "clear data" on the gallery and the camera app. I also tried, obviously, rebooting the phone. Been having this problem since I got the phone.
Mine works fine. It originally was set to store photos in internal storage but I changed it several months ago and now all my photos and videos go right into the dcmi folder on my sd card.
If the problem persists, I probably contact VZ tech support and talk to them about the issue. Are you rooted? If not maybe just call and get a replacement sent to you...
I seem to have found the issue by accident today. I found the button under manage storage that allows you to move all to sd. On inspection, turns out for whaever reason my internal and external are mounted backwards. If I set camera to store to internal memory it will use dcim on the sd. Also, if I select move all to sd, it takes the stuff from the sd and moves it to internal. Odd. I'm sure this will be solved when ics gets pushed or when I root and put a different rom on. Guess ill just deal with it for now.

SD Card formatted as internal storage randomly unusable on cm13

I love marshmallow's adoptable storage feature, allowing me to install more apps. This feature worked beautifully for about a month and a half. However, I shut down the device, plugged it in to charge, went to sleep, and the next morning, the apps that were moved to the sd card were not available anymore. They were all greyed out on my launcher(Nova). I moved about 4 gigs worth of mostly games. Fortunately, most of them had cloud storage, but some favorite games didnt. This isn't that big of a problem, but I'd like to try to fix it. So, I went here for help.
At first, I thought the class 10 SanDisk 16gb sd had just gotten bumped out of the slot where the connections happen, so I opened the back cover and removed and inserted the sd card. The notification that prompted me to put the sd back in went away for a few seconds, but then came back. I repeated the process of removing and inserting the sd a few times, but still no moved apps were available. I put the sd into an adapter, then into my laptop, and it showed on file explorer. So the sd card could still be recognized, but maybe unusable.
I dont know what happened, one day it was working, the next day it wasn't. I know i formatted it as internal and portable storage a few times, so maybe that wore it out. I'm running cm13
Hello,
On my phone I used the micro SD card normally as external storage. On day I plugged in my headphones and there was no music. I though that the micro SD card must have come out. However, reinserted it it didn't work. I wouldn't open on computer either. While I don't have a solution, I am pretty sure I also had the same problem.
Once I was taking pictures with my phone when it crashed and rebooted. Some hours before the crash I uninstalled some apps and installed some others (but never rebooted the phone). After the phone started again after the crash, all the pictures and files were gone, the uninstalled apps were there as if I've never uninstalled them and the new installed ones dissapeared.

how long have you used your sd card? i'm sure that the more you use a micro sd card, the more it will wear out and become unuseable/corrupted. That has happened to me before, where the sd card just stopped working.

I have used it for about 1 year. So it may be that but, it has never occurred before.
Same problem here, you can read it here. While I am writing hopefully my files from Titanium Backup are transfered to my laptop. It got worse and worse, in my opinion the sd-card has reached it's end of life because of it's heavy usage. Error occured the first time after the phone got really hot recording gpx tracks. Bye bye sd-card
Another opinion is that warranty is over after two years, so the phone can quit it's duty now - obsolescense plans

yeah, i'm starting to think my micro sd just bailed from wear like that too, but i got to use mine for just over 3 months. i ejected the sd and put it into my computer, and interestingly enough, on my computer it reads 16 megabytes. i was like WAAT that cant be, i formatted it, put it back in my phone as portable, and it read as the normal 14gb. i'm starting to think my sd as internal is the cause of my random reboots. im even running the lastest cm13 update too...
i guess ill try and use my sd as just portable storage from now on, and see if i get any random reboots..
I switched to TurboROM which is using the sd-card as a portable media device, so no more encryption, heavy usage and complete data loss if you do not get your encryption key with root permission.
System space left after complete recovery of my apps with TB is quite nice - but you do not have the possibility to use App2SD (correct me if I am wrong).
So the only way to save internal system space is to move pictures, movies and heavy openstreetmap cards to external.

SD Card Not Reading

So, I got my Note 7 Friday (8/19), put in my SIM and SD card. Both read perfectly. Got my ringtones, photos, vids, etc. Went to a concert the next day. Was taking videos and photos through the stock camera app. Well, I went to take video and the phone wasn't reading the card and started saving the photos to internal memory. No big. Restarted device thinking the boot will re-read the card. Nope. It didn't recognize the card AT ALL. It said that I'd need to format the card for it to be read. Well, **** that; I don't want to lose all my data. So I waited until after the show, got home, took out the tray and put it back in and voila!! Everything is gold again.
My concern is having to repeat this process again over and over again for some dumb issue. Any thoughts on what this could be? Is it my card? Should I back up data and format?
SanDisk Ultra Plus 128 GB card
Had the same issue with my coworkers 128 SanDisk. Somehow one of her picture was corrupted and it was causing the same issue intermittently. This is how I found out. I started transferring her stuff to my pc so I can format her card. My computer kept crashing during. Tried it again and keep an eye on it. Saw it got stuck on 1 picture. Waited a bit and computer crashed. So I tried it again and wrote the image file name down. Stopped the transfer. Deleted the picture and tried it again on her phone and problem went away. But I still transfered all her stuff to my pc just in case, reformatted her card inside her phone and transferred everything back to her phone.

Thanks! I did move all the files from the concert to my PC and so far so good. Still haven't formatted it but if I get the same issue, I'll do that

Missing Internal storage after accidentally formatting the SD as internal storage.

So, yeah, i think i made a BIG mistake
for context: a week ago my 32gb SD card got corrupted, so i formatted it with my phone, while doing so i didn't pay much attention, so i just tapped without looking. (after looking it up on Google it seems that i tapped an option called "use SD card as internal storage").
the process said "this will take several minutes" and i thought it was normal . It ended up taking almost 2 HOURS (turns out the SD card was a cheap one) and most of my apps took a long time to open (and for games with big OBB files it didn't even load at all).
I was scared because i had very important stuff from my college that i didn't want to lose, so i asked on several sub reddits to see if anyone could help me but it was fruitless.
the next day, in the morning, i check my phone just to see most of my data was gone (music, documents, photos), everything was corrupted, files and folders now with random names of letters and numbers, and well at this point i was just dissapointed.
I can't use the camera, it says "insert SD card" (and without the SD card it won't even open the camera app), i can't take screenshots, download stuff, i can just use chrome, twitter and youtube.
If i remove the SD card and go to About Phone, in the storage tile it says "22gb/32gb" but when i tap to check the details it says "32gb/32gb" and it crashes (so the internal storage is still there, but like hidden ).The MIUI cleaner says "0b Avaliable".
Needless to say there's no "Eject SD card" option because the phone says the SD IS the internal storage.
I'm about to unlock the bootloader just in case the phone gets in a bootloop after doing a factory reset, just to be sure
I really hope you guys can help me
