[TUTORIAL] Enable Galaxy S6 Theme Engine on Galaxy S5 - Galaxy S 5 General

Enable Galaxy S6 Theme Engine on Galaxy s5
Whether you are a seasoned Android user or a new one, you must have felt the lack of a native theme engine on your device. For most android users custom mods, ROMs, 3rd party launchers and icon packs are major means to theme their device the way they want. It’s not that all Android devices of bereft of a native theme support.
Some OEMs now seem to understand the wish of users. LG, HTC and Sony devices support color based themes and recently Samsung introduced an inbuilt theme engine in some of its phones. The newly launched Galaxy S6, along with a plethora of hardware and software improvements, also brings a default theme engine. The Galaxy S6 houses a powerful theming system that allows users to do heavy customization on the TouchWiz UI.
The S6 theme engine is quite different from the theming system found on LG, HTC or Sony devices and closer to CM Theme Engine. Applying a new theme on the Galaxy S6 changes things like the home screen wallpaper, fonts, settings and notification pop ups, dialer, messaging and dialog boxes and so on.
Samsung’s new theming system is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S6 only but in the world of Android, such kinds of exclusivities stay intact just for a few days. Thanks to our smart developer community and the open source attribute of Android!

Your device must have stock TouchWiz based Lollipop ROM.

Now open the csc folder, copy the theme_app_list.xml and paste it to System/csc. Do not forget to fix file permissions for this file too.
Using Root Browser, now go to system/etc/, tap and hold floating_feature.xml and select open/edit option.
Now find the following string:
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_CHANGEABLE_UI></SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_CHANGEABLE_UI>
Click to collapse
And add ‘theme v2″ in the middle of the code as shown below:
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_CHANGEABLE_UI>themev2</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_COMMON_CONFIG_CHANGEABLE_UI>
Click to collapse
Save your changes and exit Root Browser.
Make sure you have done everything correctly and then reboot your phone. When your device boots up, tap and hold and empty space on the home screen and along with Wallpaper, Widgets and Home screen Setting, you’ll find an extra option called Themes. Just tap it and start playing with the 4 themes available there. Cheers!

I have the exact same problem.
SM-901F, stock TouchWiz 5.0.2 (Singapore SingTel BOE1), rooted via CF-Autoroot . It installs fine & adds the "Themes" button, but causes a "TouchWiz home has stopped". I've seen others report the same. Has anyone done this successfully on the S5 _Plus_, running 5.0.2 ?

Ain't she a beauty?
Specs:
Processor- Qualcomm 800 mhz
OS- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
RAM: 256MB RAM
Screen Resolution- 360 x 480 pixels
I request all the devs & forum members to post all the Custom ROMs, tutorials, hacks & all the stuff related to Micromax A56 in this thread so that we all together can develop for this device. This is my first Droid, I love my phone
As I am new to Android (forget developing ) I may not be very helpful at building things from scratch, but I sure do tweaks and stuff. I tweaked some themeing and visual elements of the phone to better suit my style (the old look kills me, damn! So cheap for a cool phone like that!)
I am going to post few tweaked files I made up myself. Please try them on and tell me if they are good. Little appreciation is all I want from this thread Will upload files and screenshots real quick!
Tell me if I was good with this. This is my first post in XDA. I need lots n lots of your appreciation to go forward and make things! Thanks for reading folks! Hit thanks if you liked it.
Things to be done first!
1. Root Your Phone : You must gain root access as we need to modify or replace certain system only files. So make sure you root your phone. You will find rooting method for Micromax A56 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829389 Trust me its a really safe thing. No harm done to your phone
For debugging and FAQs on rooting procedure, please refer : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791748 This is kinda the official thread for our device Thanks to Anshubham for his great efforts!
2. Install a Filemanager : The default filemanager app is useless as it can't manipulate files in system folders using root access. You nee a root-supported filemanager, I suggest using Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer
Mind you, its a paid app (but you do know how you can get it for free if you really want to ) You can also use Root Browser Lite https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
3. Take Backups : This is really important. As we are going to mess with the system files, once you screw it, you should be able to restore things without much fuzz. In course, you may need to replace certain protected system files and apps. So, whatever app you are trying to mod, make sure you make backup copies of the '.apk' files on your SD card. (SD card isn't safe enough, unless you are in a hurry, copy the files to your PC too). You can use your newly installed filemanager for this purpose.
Now you are all set to start modding!
Instructions to install/replace modded System files and APKs
You should realize you are going to play with some of the important files (ROOT folders) which are critical to the phone's working. So try and keep by the steps which are described here. This is the safest way I've been doing this. So, you can be least worried
Suppose that we are going to modify the app example.apk inside /system/app folder of your phone. You can use these same steps to replace just about any system app. So I need not repeat them everytime since they are common
1. Download the modded version of the "example.apk" file from this thread.
2 Copy this modded apk into your SD card using USB, Bluetooth, etc.
3. Open the "root supported" file-manager app which you have already installed in your phone.
4. Navigate to your SD card folder containing the "example.apk" file. Click "copy".
5. Navigate to your root folder and hit paste. example.apk will be copied there.
6. Long press on the modded file, click "permissions" from the menu.
7. Apply permissions strictly as shown below :
8. Now long press the "example.apk", click "Move", navigate to /system/apps/
9. Click "Paste" and click to confirm replacing the existing file with the same name.
Note : It is important to copy the file to your root folder first and not directly to its destination. This is because, you can't set the required permissions to the file when it resides on the SD card, and if you try to replace them directly without the intermediate copying step, it may crash! So stick to the plan folks
Thats it! Now depending on the exact files you tried to replace, your phone may (or may not) go haywire for sometime with lots of Forced Closes. No need to panic Just reboot your phone and its good to go!
I shall post my modded files further down these threads. Don't forget to thank me if I helped

You see bro, its not that I've tried, but gingerbread has issues with transparency in statusbar. Last time I tried, I got lots of garbled icons and text on the statusbar. Its like the reminents of each 'frame' are not getting erased properly and remain on the screen making them appear as junk pixels.
So, you see why I don't try it anymore. If you need, I have attached here my experimental '.apk' file with transparency mod. You can try it yourself
Apart from transparency effects, you can always go for a pseudo transparency like what I did here in my first pic. For eg. A black statusbar on a black wallpaper looks as if it is transparent, whereas actually it is not You can always match it with your current wallpaper.
Black StatusBar Mod : My Sunday Gift!
Hey guys, how are you
It seems my humble little thread has seen much fuss within these two days I'm flattered. Infact I've decided not to keep you waiting any more So here it is!
Black Statusbar Tweak
I donno why they have this UGLY statusbar in the stock app. Everyone should get these cool looks!! The stock statusbar was killing me. It gave the phone its cheap look (although we agree its cheap, but hey, its a Superfone ) I was so so jealous about my friend's Galaxy Nexus. I badly wanted the ICS look on my phone.
First step : turn the statusbar to black! In that way it could easily blend with my black-themed Xperia style wallpaper. Voila! Instant transformation to a high-end phone
Clearly the black themes give the ultimate look to the phone's screen. Maybe since it's got a high contrast, but color reproduction is poor. Anyhow black is what appeals me
Checkout the screens here. Doesn't the statusbar make a good impression?
You can download it from the third post of this thread. I have kept it reserved for aggregating all my mods. Make sure you get these cool looks on your phone ASAP!!
Oh, and by the way, enjoy your sunday
Thanks jyothisthaliath bro...!!!
M waiting for other two also..

Not at all this is simply copy and pasted text from a website that changes homescreen/lockscreen wallpaper and homescreen icons. In order for it to use and theme like an S6 you need a port of the S6. A good ROM is MyaRom if compatible with your devices. For 910T/W8 use the EchoRom S6 port in the T-Mobile S6 Android development section.

Ok. Yes that is what i have think. Because for original Theme Store you need S6 Port.
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
They have more themes now. Will this show the new themes???
It is in any case the center theme samsung galaxy s6, but simply secthemechooser that exists on almost any custom rom galaxy note 4 for a long time, look here
HERE
I figured that out actually. We been trying to figure out how to get the whole thing going on Note 3 without having to port from S6. Mainly running in stock OC5

any screenshot ?
This is not the same as the theme store which someone pointed out. It is only the launcher. You can accomplish the same thing by running nova or other launcher products. The icons are ugly and its very basic.

Yeah i think its couse this is the note 4 theme engine and not the s6/note 5 one
And you are probably using note 5 ported launcher wich does show s6/note5 themes (if present) and not the note 4 themes.
Install stock note4 launcher and you will get themes by this way but only the old ones wich change only wallpaper and icons...
The only one person i know who ported the new theme engine to note 4s stock firmware is Dr.Ketan.(talking about n910f)

[GUIDE] Make your own Themes for your Samsung device

Hi all!
I make this guide for those who want to make their own themes for Samsung Devices. This uses Samsung My Theme, a software developed by Samsung.
The devices supported by this method are devices compatible with TouchWiz Theme Engine (like my A5 2015 for example)
Things you'll need:
Samsung My Theme Software, it has the following system requirements:
• A PC running Windows 7 or later.
• A Samsung device using Samsung Theme Engine.
• Android SDK for Android 4.4 or higher should be installed on the PC.
• Java JDK version 1.6-7.0 (not 8.0).
1. Downloading the required software.
You can download my version of Samsung My Theme here:
https://mega.nz/#!yl8VSZyK!-wUHQ5eQ8xcn-2VgZ9LbkW_g-ilLPuyjD-L_h0DY0Oo
Unzip the .zip file, and put it on a location you can access easily. Simply unzip the tool and run
“SamsungMyTheme.exe”.
1.2 Downloading Java JDK & Android SDK.
*Android SDK does not currently support JDK 8.0. Use JDK versions 6.0 or 7.0 only.
- Download the Android SDK (version 4.4 only) just use the download.bat script in working folder (it will download all SDK automatically) or you can download it manually here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
- Copy all files and folders in the Android SDK…\android\android-sdk folder to the \sdk
folder on your PC.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Open Samsung_My_Theme folder and go to /sdk folder. Copy the files to this /sdk folder according to this below:
2. Choosing the correct resolution for your device and saving theme path.
Open the working folder and run SamsungMyTheme.exe
Wait few seconds, the components will be loaded. Once the app is loaded, select create a changeable theme.
2.1 Select the correct resolution for your device.
The software will ask you to choose your device resolution, if you don't know it, just search for specs of your Samsung device and you will find it.
Taking the example of A5, it uses 720x1280p so I choose it. Once all of that is done choose a name and a saving path for your Theme.
2.1 Adding Lockscreen and Home screen wallpaper.
After creating the theme file, you have to add your own resources to it.
You can use your resources to do that, download any picture you want and click on add image on the left side (see the picture below)
A popup will be opened, select your picture and click on open. You should now see your picture on the components. Use the adjustements tools on the right side to crop, rotate, adjust size or cut your pic to make it fit your device screen. Do the same procedure for the home screen wallpaper.
2.2 Adding your own icons.
Click on icon button.
Click on "+" to select the image you want to use as a icon for the app you want to change the icon.
Note: if you let a case empty, after Installing the theme to your device, it will use the stock icon.
Taking example here of music app icon.
Do as previous steps, use your own images. Crop the icon to make it fit the white square on the center. Adjust brightness if necessary. And do the same of the other icons you want to change.
3. Testing your Theme on your device.
Using SamsungThemePreview on your device
Go to your SamsungMyTheme folder, you should see an apk file named " SamsungThemePreview.apk", select it, plug your device to your PC and move the .apk file to your device. Use a file browser on your device, select the apk of SamsungThemePreview and install it as a normal apk.
- Now go to Settings > About device, touch 10 times build number, go back to settings, and now you should see a new option named "Developer options" click on the tile and enable USB debugging mode. Allow any popups on the device.
On your PC, click the Preview on phone button on the menu bar. When Theme Preview apk is installed, a preview of your theme will be displayed
automatically.
If you like your Theme, select file, click on save and then "Package the APK file"
It will open a new popup, set name for your Theme, package name, etc... And click on save.
It will take some time to build the apk file depending on the resources you used.
Once it's finished, you can directly apply the theme to the device or take it from working folder and /out.
Congratulations ! You made your own theme from your own resources.

And can you tell me how to change apps background like calculator and phone calender etc it will helps alot
So after searching for ages I came across this thread downloaded and installed the application, played arpound with the app only to find to my disappointment - it only changes lock/home screen background and the icons. It dosent look this app did what I was hoping it would, namely allow me to edit all the backgrounds of the system apps to darker(kitkat) like.
In a nutshell, is there a way/app that will allow me to customise all the background, fonts and other UI elements on a TW based rom. My goal/aim is to remove/alter 'all' the white backgrounds in MM to darker, graduated-black or black (as per KK)

Yes this!
Well while we all wait for Samsung to stop being so obtuse, or better for someone to upload the SS tool so we can bypass SS and thier bloody theme store - I have a flashed Pheonix Rom for my S5 (G900F) which has ported S7 (G935F) features (i.e. theme store) and applied the 'Touchwiz6DMM' theme.
It has replaced 'almost' all the white backgrounds. only 3 occurances remain (notifications, when I manually install an APK, and some apps that interested with the OS in someway that they still use a white background.
Not understanding
Sir, can you please explain this?
- Copy all files and folders in the Android SDK…\android\android-sdk folder to the \sdk
folder on your PC.

a) I installed Android SDK and there is no such path like "Android SDK…\android\android-sdk"
b) which " \sdk folder on your PC"? You mean the one that is in the Samsung_My_Theme_1.0.5b_en program?
Open Samsung_My_Theme folder and go to /sdk folder. Copy the files to this /sdk folder according to this below:

You mean to copy from Android SDK installed in PC to Samsung Theme sdk folder? If yes The structure is different!
Android SDK Build Tools:
AppData\Local\Android\sdk\build-tools\24.0.3\....
Samsung Theme
Samsung_My_Theme_1.0.5b_en\sdk\build-tools\android-5.0.1\...
Can you detail?
Thanks

No, this is only applicable to devices that were released before Galaxy S6 (because they have the old theme engine).
But there should be the same software for new devices, check on XDA

Notice:
This ROM is created for Samsung Galaxy Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU). Obviously it will not work on any other device, or if it does few apps may crash. Boot time may take a lot, 15-20-30 mins :silly:
As you very well may know, Samsung recently launched a beta testing program for the Note users to test the new touchwiz UI called GraceUI. Let's test it on our phones :fingers-crossed: Please do a backup in case something goes wrong or the apps crash. In order to use the script inside the ROM you may need Universal Init.d from the play store
link to the Universal Init.d:
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androguide.universal.init.d&hl=en
What's not working / current issues:
Gallery may crash when you slide to "EVENTS"
new libs cause bootloop
Launcher is a bit buggy
SystemUI doesn't show real volume strings
Trying to change language in settings, makes the app crash
The WiFi can't even be turned on, the system crashes
The Bluetooth doesn't turn off, some times neither on
Random framework reboots
Camera app will Force-Close when you take pics
Most system apps cause bootloop, the system is still unstable and ultra light

yep it is, it's hard but smart manager doesn't want to work lol
smart manager is indeed tricky, i even found a 5.0.2 from S6, ported for 32bit android for Note 3, and still it didnt work. It is one of few apps from samsung that i dont recognise as bloat. I know the one from ALOOSH in the General section works well, but even that one is outdated.
Please check these two threads out: [APP][PORT][ROOT] App S7 for G900F and S7 Apps For Galaxy Note 5,S6 Edge,S6 and Note 4
Usually, any port from Albe95 have resulted successfully for me in many devices. I tested this on an S5, N3 and N4, all worked, chances are it works here as well.
@Bulgar thanks for the thread, much needed, especially for a central solution if we choose to manually make our devices look better (a lack of custom tw roms really hurts).

Prerequisites :
Have an Samsung Android phone with Samsung theme management.
Enable Unknown Sources in Android Settings.
Download Theme Samsung Galaxy YoBlue: HERE
Installation :
For installation, there is only one method, but since this theme does not come from the Samsung Store, it ends up with a trial period. On the other hand, there are three methods for definitive activation (No-Root, Root and Root with Recovery Custom). This is why Installation section will be in two parts.
Installation:
Once downloaded, install APK file as a normal application.
Once finished, wait for popup "Installation Finished"
Go to Settings, then in Themes, choose YoBlue Theme which is free trial, and, Free Trial.
Be Patient during the installation of the theme.
Once done, go to activation part
Activation: As I mentioned above, there are three methods for you to choose the method according to your configuration. But I still advise you the third method.
No-Root Method:
Install Disabler Pro for just under 2 euros: HERE (The application and the price of the application is not my resist so the criticisms concerning this application do not have to be present on this topic.)
Disable Themes Store and Themes:
Once done this should block free statut of themes.
Root Method:
Open your root explorer (think to activate the hidden files).
Go to Device, Data, Overlays, then Jsonfiles.
You have two folders, a Userjson and another Userjsontrial.
Take the .json file that is in Userjsontrial, then copy and paste it into Userjson
Once done, delete Userjsontrial folders (under all Android versions) and Preferences (under 6.0.1).
Finally restart your phone.
Root + Custom Recovery Method:
Download file Remove_Trial_From_TWThemes.zip HERE
Restart in recovery.
Make a backup as a precaution.
Flash Remove_Trial_From_TWThemes.zip file. (The default folder for download is internal memory, download. Do not be afraid, the zip has autotmatic reboot command at the end of the flash.
Once your phone restarts normally, return to Settings, then in Themes, choose YoBlue Theme which is no longer free trial, and, Apply.
Patient during installation.
Enjoy.

Content is not compatible with platform."
Only theme on samsung theme work...

Hello.
It is possible your rom don't accept the modded version.
Test with no modded version.

Hello,
thanks, but don't work... Always the same problem. I think it is a problem with the build.prob, maybe change the rom in a few days... Thanks my friend!
Hello @Yoanf_26
ok i change my rom, i'm on minotaurus v10 and the theme work fine! it's very beautiful, thanks bro'
if you have another theme, i'll take it lol
Hi.
Thanks you. My pleasure.
Hi.
Post 1 updated with v1.3.
Enjoy
I followed the instructions and went with option nr.3 since i got twrp and audax rom v.12. But the trial did not get removed.
Also there is a 20% typo added in the remove_trial_zip link.
Edit:
Also tried the option nr.1 which didn't work at all. It stays on "please wait while activate your device."
Been like that for 15 mins or more.
Edit2: Tested with the version in the comment post and that did not even install.
Hi, try to switch to stock theme then remove Yoblue theme. Next flash theme zip by TWRP Recovery

Do you mean the remove_trial_zip?
I tried the following steps:
1. Switch to audax stock theme ( it's not the samsung stock theme, but close, i think.)
2. Delete the yoblue theme
3. Flash remove_trial_zip from twrp
4. Install yoblue theme apk file
5. Flash remove_trial_zip from twrp
6. Apply yoblue theme
7. Flash remove_trial_zip from twrp
Between these steps i checked if the trial was gone, hence the several flash of remove_trial_zip file. But no success.
I'm using a SM-g928f with audax v.12 with M.M 6.0.1
Audax is present on this forum if you are unaware of what it is.
And i guess i can't install the theme apk file from twrp? I have only installed it from within the OS.
No i mean, switch to stock theme, remove Yoblue theme, flash Yoblue theme from recovery, switch to Yoblue theme

Hi bro,
Thanks for Remove trial zip.
Yoblue base theme is build with STE but its very basic. This theme is about 80% build manually with edits in xml. Many features of this theme can't be done with STE, as theming incallui, statusbar Icons (wifi, data, Bluetooth...), volume panel and mutch more...
Flashable Zip theme is my own method, i have create it and havn't use from someone else, i think i am the first to make flashable theme installation, remove trial or manually moving Jason trial to user Jason and delete preferences folder is not needed with my Zip theme installation [emoji6]

It should be in theme store...
Try this : install apk, Reboot in Recovery and flash my Zip again
Still no changes, but earlier today after i wrote my firsts post(s) i did wipe+flash N-lite v.3 Nougat 7.0. Maybe thats the reason now? I can flash back to audax if there is compatibility issues with 7.0

If you give credits to @ted77usa and theme-depot its okay... Flash zip is a nice though. Try to make it compatible for Nougat and MM.
Good luck
